For many listeners, Little Voice will be their first exposure to this soulful singer/songwriter, but it's actually Sara Bareilles' second record. Her first, the self-released Careful Confessions, led to a deal with Epic. Since then, Bareilles has opened for Marc Broussard and Maroon 5. She's also become a bonafide soundtrack queen with tracks featured in female-centric films Girl Play, Loving Annabelle, and Monster-in-Law. As with her out-of-print debut, the UCLA grad wrote every song on her first major label recording (Little Voice features re-worked versions of several demo numbers). Like the portrait on the back of the CD--Bareilles in strappy black dress and lace-free high-tops--the piano-playing chanteuse combines the sweet with the scruffy. While her jazzy pop melodies are radio-ready, her relationship-oriented lyrics can be unexpectedly salty ("Bottle Up" and "Come Round Soon" wouldn't pass FCC muster). A little profanity here and there, however, doesn't indicate tough-girl attitude--Amy Winehouse can rest easy--so much as a desire to express herself freely. As Bareilles explains in "Love Song," "I'm trying to let you hear me as I am." (Not surprisingly, her degree is in communications.) Fans of Sarah McLachlan and Alicia Keyes will find much to like here. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

5 out of 5 stars Straightforward emotion without getting overly sentimental.......2007-08-02

I first heard Sara Bareilles in New York City, where she was opening for Britpopper Mika at the Gramercy Theatre. I was instantly blown away by her throaty, full voice and right-to-the-point lyrics. I bought the sampler she had available at the show (which consisted of "Love Song," "Bottle It Up," and "Gravity") and played it over and over again.

Although my expectations for this CD were relatively high after having listened to the sampler so much and having heard a decent amount of the rest of the album live, they were all met and then some. Comparisons with Fiona Apple and Norah Jones are inevitable, as the female singer-songwriter-pianist genre is fairly constrained, but while Sara may not be an instant superstar, as the other two were, her sheer talent is certainly comparable. Her voice, while a bit more on the conventional side than the other two, is powerful and has a great range, and her songs convey just as much emotion without some of Fiona's melodrama.

A definite buy, especially at Amazon's price of $8.99. My favorite tracks are probably "Love Song" and "Vegas," but there's not a clinker on the album. Couldn't recommend it more!

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing Voice.......2007-08-02

Sara B. definitely has one of the most amazing voices! I first heard her when she was a student at UCLA performing at Spring Sing, a huge talent show near the end of the year, which she won and was absolutely blown away by her voice, well everyone was. Her voice has this richness and great vibrato that's just right. Her voice never sounds pushed or forced either. And then when I heard she signed with Epic and was coming out with a new cd well I got so excited because now she can share with the world her amazing gift and talent!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!.......2007-08-01

Originally found her on myspace. Love her voice and tunes. Love Song and Bottle It Up are fabulous!!! The whole CD is a great listen and a good pick-me up. Such a fresh voice!

3 out of 5 stars Verdict : A Poor Man's Vanessa Carlton.......2007-07-31

Sara Bareilles' debut album is indeed better than most new CDs, but please do not compare her to Fiona Apple, Tori Amos or even Sarah McLachlan. She does NOT have either the talent or energy of the above mentioned singers, nor is she as good to listen to on record.

I got this CD solely based on the wonderful reviews on this Amazon page. Pity, because I wish I hadn't. Which brilliant mind compared her to Fiona Apple? At best, Sara sounds like something off a `Dawson's Creek' episode from the late 1990s (and not in a good way). Yes, the voice is pretty - but it is NOT unique. In fact, listening to this album in its' entirety, I was constantly reminded of one performer - Vanessa Carlton. Then I realized that Vanessa had both a better voice and better songs, but that Bareilles was so intent on winning her audience, that it really shows in places.

Best track of the album - `Vegas' - is one where she sounds a lot like Jessica Simpson attempting that Dolly Parton song. I mean this in a nice way. The song is memorable, and if I was to ever reach for this album again (which is looking very unlikely at this point), `Vegas' will be the track I shall be playing.

Heres the thing - this is a very average album. Neither is Sara a `real find' or the `real deal' as people would have you believe, nor is she especially talented. I think the latter is the thing that will make people realize she isn't going to have a career as cult-like as Fiona or Tori. Reviewers, please don't compare singers like Sara to the greats - its not justified by any means.

Download a track or two, if you must, but refrain from buying this. It isn't that good.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!.......2007-07-18

That is all that can be said for Sara Bareilles' "little voice" although when it comes to Sara neither her voice nor her talent is little. She is a Fiona Apple meets Sarah Mclachlan and add a dash of kelly clarkson (wierd combination right?) That works so well. With catchy lyrics and songs you want to dance in your swivel chair at work for, Sara Bareilles has made a huge acheivement and a even bigger impression on the Music world!

Ozzy returns with a startlingly heavy ninth studio album, a record filled with vows to continue his rock 'n' roll ways ("Not Going Away," "I Don't Wanna Stop"), meditations on the state of a world that has changed surprisingly little since Black Sabbath's early days ("Black Rain," "God Bless the Almighty Dollar") and the obligatory ballad ("Here for You," which can be read either as a letter to a lover or a love letter to his fans). With longtime guitarist Zakk Wylde providing plenty of brutal, soul-searing riffs and solos, there's no shortage of reasons to throw the horns, raise your fist, and yell. The rhythm section of Mike Bordin (drums) and Rob "Blasko" Nicholson (drums) is simply the best since Randy Castillo and Phil Soussan joined up for 1986's The Ultimate Sin and fires most accurately on the title cut, "Lay Your World On Me" and "Countdown's Begun." There's no "Crazy Train" or "Mama I'm Coming Home" here but Black Rain is a more convincing statement for it. The promises Ozzy makes here are sincere, he's not going away anytime soon--and he's still got plenty of game. --Jedd Beaudoin

4 out of 5 stars Dearly departing Ozman.......2007-07-31

You MUST buy this if only for collections sake. Since this will be his last album (or so says he) you Must savor it!!
Mr. Ozman Sir, you are a master artist of your genre, your contributions to R & R will be grieviously missed.
Even though I love only 2 of the songs, I will listen to this and cherish the music and your voice and lyrics.
You are a delicious little addiction of mine.

5 out of 5 stars Five out of Ten songs = 5 stars.......2007-07-24

When I first listened to this CD, I was blown away because the first three tracks were all songs that I liked and I began thinking that this could become the best Ozzy album EVER! Those thoughts quickly evaporated as I listened to tracks 4-7 and found myself wondering how things went so wrong in the middle of the album. Tracks 8-10 restored my excitement and left me with mixed feelings after my first listen.

Since then, I have found that I absolutely love the songs "Black Rain" and "Countdown's Begun". I have played those over and over and I feel they really carry this album. "I Don't Wanna Stop" is probably my third favorite and then "Not Going Away" would be next. For the fifth best track, I would have to decide between the ballad "Here For You" or "Trap Door".

I know a lot of people have complained about the packaging for the CD, but I would like to remind everyone that Ozzy was giving away FREE concert tickets in those early release CDs. I am sure the thin packaging and cardboard slip cover helped cut down on the CD processing costs. This may have helped Ozzy to be able to give away an entire tour for free. I would also appreciate liner notes and better packaging, but if you had to choose between that and free concert tickets, I think the tickets provide a lot better value so I find it hard to complain.

When I think about this CD overall, I find that I really enjoy about half of the ten songs and find the others somewhat forgettable. For this reason, I decided to give it five stars, even though I don't truly feel it is worthy of that high of a rating (maybe 4.5 stars??). I suppose my logic is anytime you find an album that has five out of ten good songs that you like, I think that qualifies as an excellent album.

4 out of 5 stars Ozzy's Back.......2007-07-18

Finally!!! A new Ozzy album. Good album; although a bit on the soft side (similar to Down to Earth). This album is filled with thick Zakk riffs and licks, which was worth the purchase. If you're an Ozzy fan, it's worth the purchase, if only to add to the collection.

4 out of 5 stars Very good album, very consistent........2007-07-17

At first, I was not blown away by this. But after a few more spins, I really started to like it. It is not as heavy as some of his earlier stuff, but it is better than most of his later work. I like most of the songs. There are no big standouts, but not any really low points either. The album is pretty even and if you like any other work from Ozzy, you probably will enjoy this.

My favorite track is "Lay Your World On Me" and my least favorite is "Trap Door".

My favorite Ozzy album is "No More Tears" followed by "No Rest For The Wicked" which were the first 2 albums Ozzy used Zakk Wylde. I do also really like "Diary Of A Madman", but only for the few standouts it has. I did not care much for "Down To Earth" which was the last album Zakk was on.

Along with this album, I am currently listening to Megadeth-United Abominations, Dream Theater-Systematic Chaos, and Kamalot-Ghost Opera.

4 out of 5 stars Ozzy rocks.......2007-07-13

Ozzy rocks with this one. I would highly recommend it. Many of the songs are on current topics, war, global warming, but with the Ozzy and Zakk Wylde sound we've loved throughout the years. His voice has never been better.

3 out of 5 stars It's Ozzy - and he goes green.......2007-07-20

Come on - It's ozzy. It'll never be his best album, but how many 'best albums' do we see at his age? I doubt when i want to hear ozzy, I'll think to put this CD in first, but at least he gave us something above the static they're putting on the radio these days. Ozzy's career has become one of leisure, and I think rightfully so. He's given so much to music that he has earned the right to put out albums like this in his latter career. I own this CD because I own every ozzy album. It's not his best, but it's not bad either and there are a couple of songs definitely worth hitting 'repeat.'

1 out of 5 stars I guess Sharon is proud ozzy shouldn't be.......2007-07-15

I am old enough to have been there in the day when the wizard of OZ first hit with Black Sabbath. Great Stuff. Then when OZZY went solo, better stuff. This new stuff is very poor stuff, even my late 20s and late 30s aged co-workers held their nose (both ozzy fans). Its a stinker, repetitive, muddy, tired

4 out of 5 stars Black Rain.......2007-07-03

There are quite a few songs on this CD that I listen to routinely! I hate when you buy a disc and all but 2 songs suck! Ozzy did a good job on this one....I was very pleasantly surprised. He hasn't lost his mojo!

5 out of 5 stars Ozzy never Quits.......2007-06-27

This is not about drugs or death but the troubles that life and wisdom bring. I enjoyed all the songs on this album, if you enjoy ozzy then this is a no brainer

1 out of 5 stars St. Anger.......2007-06-21

I was really excited when i thought ozzy was coming back strong. After the last cd I hoped he'd go back to the ozzmosis sound or possibly farther back. Ofcourse not. The only good thing about this cd is that I got two free seats to ozzfest that would have been 80-100 dollars otherwise. This is almost as big of a dissapointment as when Metallica released St. Anger minus a few good moments on the cd. The difference is that Ozzy isn't going around saying its the best thing he has ever done because he's done so many great things and knows it is no match. I just have a hard time believing it's zakk wylde on the album. It does sound like him, however I can't believe he would do this to ozzy. I just hope he keeps on trucking until he croaks.

The simple blues-informed pop charms of L.A. songwriter Kevin Moore remain unchanged on his eighth album. All twelve of these songs about romance and its triumphs and failures go down easy, thanks to his unhurried and unmannered singing, and arrangements that run slow and spare. That openness allows Moore's slide playing, perfected on the porch of Mississippi delta bluesman Eugene Powell, to add subtle, pretty decoration to tunes like "Your Love" and "Eileen." He's got a sympathetic cohort in John Porter, who also produced Moore's debut album and is especially adept at capturing the sounds of the acoustic instruments that dominate this disc. After pursuing all the twists and turns of love and its baggage on Suitcase, Moore ends the CD with "Life Is Beautiful," an ode to the pure and basic joys of life as a couple, reflected in a blithely primal trio accompaniment of crisp acoustic guitar, mandolin, and drums. --Ted Drozdowski

    5 out of 5 stars Keb' Mo'.......2007-05-05

I found Keb' Mo' by accident. I was looking thru blues cds at the local library and found "Slow Down." I heard that cd and thought it was really good. So I ordered some more to listen to and didn't know that "Suitcase" was his latest - greatest. When I listen to "Suitcase" it is straight forward honest and funny. I like Keb' Mo's easy going laid back style that is very pleasing to the ears. The whole album is great with a story to tell. Keb' Mo' has either lived this or has had close friends that have experienced some of the things he sings about. It is a very entertaining album and worth the purchase!

    4 out of 5 stars a light suitcase.......2007-05-04

This record shows Keb' Mo's usual combination of blues and ballads, like most of his precedent works. As usual, it is a refined and accurate record, with excellent arrangements and high quality of the sound. There are some differences, actually: comparing to some early records and to the last one ("Keep it simple"), "Suitcase" seems to be a little weighed down on the "pop" side of such mix, as ballads (I'm a hero, I'll be you water, Life is beautiful, etc.) prevail over genuine blues tracks. More: some pieces begin with a blues introduction, but suddenly turn to a pop song (listen to "Your Love"). I do not know if it depends on Keb's present good mood, or if Blues is making its way towards a softer age. As for me, I own all Keb's records and I love this musician as one of the best living bluesmen, but I will keep this work for my relaxed moments.

This is another one of his CD's that is enjoyable from start to finish.

3 out of 5 stars Nice EZ listening music ... no blues, no soul.......2007-03-26

Despite his claims to the contrary on his website and in interviews, Keb' Mo' has largely abandoned his blues roots. This album is a collection of innocuous tunes that fit nicely into the E-Z listening category. Good background music, but there's nothing there that gives a clue to the skills and soul demonstrated in Keb Mo's earlier works.

    5 out of 5 stars Feel Good.......2007-03-13

This music just makes you feel good. I want to dance to almost every song. It's very easy to understand his lyrics. He's a great songwriter and singer.

Anyone young and looking for genuine young praise music should get this. God takes incredibly talented people and makes their talents multiply like crazy. an all of the music is so filled with worship for GOd. a must have, our youth group listens to this stuff all the time now.

    5 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good.......2006-08-19

I have always been a Hillsongs fan, but less so concerning the United albums--they have always seemed a little too "punk" for me, usually containing at least one song I can barely stand to listen to because of a super racy rhythm, guitar lick, or otherwise "surfer" sound (although I do not doubt the worship intent of the performers).

The "Look to You" album was the first United Live CD where none of the songs stood out like that. It is not to be overlooked by adult worshippers. Some songs were definitely more youthful-sounding than others, and some had very hard rock parts interlaced with more serious sections, but all were truly worshipful and controlled--making it one of the best passionate worship albums we own. It is a great synthesis of praise and worship, and definitely finely crafted songs/lyrics--not trite or pop-sounding stuff. The songs do not overlap much on the other albums either, as has been the case in some Hillsongs in the past.

The DVD highlights the passion and authenticity, especially in "All I Need Is You" and "There is Nothing Like." "All for Love" is beautiful, sung by a girl charmingly similar and yet different from Darlene Zschesh. I was very impressed how involved but God-focused the performance was--no-one was flinging themselves at the stage, and no singer was trying to draw attention to themselves. This was really touching. The DVD is also very well done compared to other worship DVDs we own--very professional and artistic, if a little fast in scene movement. It does not contain all of the songs on the album, just six of them.

Overall, I'm really surprised and pleased with this United. I hope they continue in this vein.

    5 out of 5 stars Fantastic--United's best release yet........2006-07-22

Look to You is a continuation of several great releases by United. The music is alive and passionate, and the DVD brings to life the worship of Encounterfest. There are many powerful and moving songs on the album that have been used in my church and youth group. Another great sample of United's passionate worship.

5 out of 5 stars Young Hearts in Worship.......2006-05-09

For the last few years, Hillsong United has been capturing the energy and passion for Christ in the hearts of the growing Christian youth movement. United brings that trademark energy, love and passion to this album as well. While the album is excellent throughout, the two best songs are the first, "Salvation is Here" and the last, a jaw-dropping version of Rich Mullin's classic "Awesome God". The album is worth the price for those two songs alone, but the entire album is a perfect blend of United high-energy praise songs and Hillsongs' trademarked worship songs that truely lead you into the throneroom of the Almighty. This album truely expresses a move of God in the hearts of youth everywhere, and the album will be blessing to all who hear it.

As the title would lead to you to believe, these are the greatest hits from a group that had a fair share of hits in the late '60s and early '70s. Too pop savvy to be merely a funk band, and too damn funky to be just a rock band, Sly and his multicultural crew made intelligent party music that crossed boundaries and became AM radio staples. Included in this collection are smashes like "Dance to the Music", "M'lady", "Sing A Simple Song", "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again)" and "Everybody is a Star". --Amy Linden

4 out of 5 stars Excellent soul album, but with poor sound!!.......2007-02-25

This album came out in 1970, and my mother had it on LP back then. I still have the LP copy that she had. It sounds great, even though the cover is marred with ring wear due to its age. Anyway, I have it on cassette also (which my uncle had), and I have the CD. It is a great album, but the sound quality of some of the songs is kind of poor. The second track on this album, Everybody is a Star, sounds kind of thin and dull, like it is in mono (same thing for the final track, Thank You.....). I am hoping to get the 2 CD Essential soon, which I heard that the sound quality of the songs on there is much better than the sound quality on this original Greatest Hits. I would have rated this album 5 stars, but one star was docked due to the poor sound quality on some of the songs (maybe that's why this title has been discontinued, but who knows?). I will still keep this title, but I will definitely go for the 2 CD Essential Sly and the Family Stone real soon!!

5 out of 5 stars Sly & The Family Stone- Greatest Hits (Best Of The Best).......2007-01-06

Don't pass up on this extreme valuable rarity!! If the track listing is correct for this 2-cd set, then what you are getting is the following- Disc One: The Greatest Hits. Disc one is no big deal but the last track on disc one goes with the songs on Disc Two: and they are called remixes. These "remixes" are all from a 1979 LP called "Ten Years Too Soon" and was way ahead of it's time. No one was putting out full length remix albums back then, hence the title Ten Years Too Soon, but technically these are just simply 1979 disco versions of their songs. But still.... these tracks are very rare and unless you can afford the $200 Japan import cd "Ten Years Too Soon", you better snatch this up right quick!

5 out of 5 stars Sly At The Top Of His Game.......2006-07-26

If you're looking for a point of entry into the lava-lamp infested, funky nightclub world of Sly & the Family Stone, this Greatest Hits CD is your best bet - and it's a bargain. With the exception of Hendrix, Morrison, and Joplin - who died - and David Crosby - who isn't interesting enough to care about - Sly Stone shines out as the quintessential 60's cautionary tale, a man who inspired multitudes with his meteoric intensity and then self-destructed so completely that over the remaining decades he's remained a ghostly caricature of himself, struggling with mundane activities like remembering peoples' names - including his own.

Fortunately, this material is taken from the peak of his career, late 60's and early 70's. The music is exuberant, crackling with energy, and as funky as the law allows. S&TFS was a groundbreaking group in many ways, for starters they were interracial and mixed gender when this was virtually unknown. Their psychedelic blend of soul, R&B, rock, boom-chaka-laka-laka, and smart lyrics is irresistible and uniquely infectious. Sly had a genius for making complex compositions come out deceptively simple, danceable, and sing-in-the-shower-able. The CD is definitely incomplete, but the must-haves are there. (I've always had a sweet tooth for Hot Fun In The Summertime).

If you were not around when this music first appeared, what will strike you most is how influential it's been. Those who have not borrowed bits and pieces from Sly have stolen from him outright. Even so, few, if any of his imitators have been able to match his combination of wit, enthusiasm, and funkability. Buy this CD and put it on loud when there's nobody else around. If you're not dancing by the third or fourth song, you're Swiss.

2 out of 5 stars 2 stars just because of the single.............2007-07-31

First off, let me say this, and this is gonna make some people furious I am sure, but on some of these tracks the way Berg sounds, he reminds me of Lil Wayne. Seeing how I think that Lil Wayne is whack anyways, maybe it's not such a bad comparison. Some of the stuff he says is just like Lil Wayne in that he will say one line, and then follow up with something totally unrelated that doesn't even make sense, it just happens to rhyme.

This EP starts off strong (if that is the appropriate word, it depends on how you feel about the single Sexy Lady) and then goes straight down the crapper and never looks back.

Just like almost all other new rappers, Yung Berg says absolutely nothing witty or original, on the song Almost Famous his verses would be comparable to Fabolous if he threw in some interesting metaphors/similies/analogies....but he does none of the above. Why Twista agreed to be on Where Do We Go is beyond me, why would you associate yourself with this clown? Doesn't really matter because even his verse is really generic and bland.

I thought maybe the remix would be good, but Jim Jones is whack as usual, Berg's new verse is just like the rest of his verses on the CD, nothing special, and the previous two makes Rich Boy's turn on the mic look like a highlight.

Even if you are someone that only pays attention to beats you can't give this EP much credit, the best are the Sexy Lady and Where Do We Go.....the last track, Painkiller, apparently isn't even a Yung Berg song but some R&B song by Nikki Flores. He drops a very forgettable verse, i don't even think its a full 16 bars. The beat on the song is average, but for me, as I get ready to throw on the new Common CD, an average beat isn't gonna save a darn thing, you gotta say somethin worth our time.

The best advice anyone can give Yung Berg is to pull this off the shelves and put Sexy Lady on his full CD in the fall - go back to the drawing board and think of something creative to say sohis debut doesn't bomb.

"The Power of Love" was Celine Dion's first chart-topping song in America, but it was a career-defining moment in more ways than one. It established her as a dependable hitmaker and also fixed the pattern of her biggest successes to come--songs that begin with delicate melodies and spare instrumentation and build into big, powerful productions over which Dion's incomparable vocals hit stratospheric heights. Dion attempts other directions on The Colour of My Love, such as the light dance-pop of "Misled" and "Everybody's Talkin' My Baby Down," but they don't ring as true as her duet with Clive Griffin in "When I Fall in Love" (from the film Sleepless in Seattle) and the title track. --Daniel Durchholz

4 out of 5 stars there are moments.......2007-06-18

There was a time when it seemed there would be no getting past Celine Dion's overwhelming voice. Vocal music would end, then and there, along with the 20th century and the millennium. No higher musical peaks worthy of scaling appeared on the horizon.

This album was a watershed in the career of a woman who sang so strongly and then appeared to disappear suddenly from the recording world. From the opening lines, 'The whispers in the morning ....', Celine put us on notice that her diminutive size in no way correlates to the sound that flows with what looks like effortless ease--artists know that it is nothing of the kind--from the skinny songstress.

Some found the highly produced quality of this cd worthy of their scorn. But in the tradition of big stage music, Celine's style is - unapologetically - just what it is. When she announced her transition to a grueling feet-on-the-ground commitment to Vegas, no one could be too surprised. She sings from the stage even when there is no stage.

It is difficult to choose the best track on this CD. Certainly 'Next Plane Out' would Compete'. Though laurels may go in the end to 'Love Doesn't Ask Why', that piece--an existential untruth but a marvelous piece of singing--would have to edge out 'I Remember L.A.':

    'I remember L.A.'
    Seems a lifetime ago
We were stars on Sunset Boulevard
    What a move we made

There were days in the sun
    That have stayed forever young
    Nights when passion was invincible
We thought love would never die

There were moments in that lifetime
    That my heart still replays
There were minutes, there were hours
    There were days
There are moments I still love you
    That same way
    When I remember L.A.'

Who can not place themselves in Celine's L.A. with a lover who is now just a memory, though - in moments - a living presence? The almost imperceptible passage from 'were' to 'are' as the heart replays tells the whole story.

It is in conjuring up the colours of love, as she did with such surging prowess, that Celine carved out a place in our memory. A fine album.

5 out of 5 stars Two thumbs up.......2007-02-28

I never listened to Celine Dion's music much. I happened to check this album out from the library and had to go out and buy it after it was returned. This album has just the right mix of sad, slow love songs and up-beat ones. I would buy all of her CD's simply based on this one.

    4 out of 5 stars Good Cd....Love/ Romantic Ballads.............2006-12-24

I am a die-hard Celine fan and yes, this cd is mostly romantic/love songs ballads but this Cd does have some variety a little pop and dance ballads (song choice is why its 4/5 stars because there could have been more variety, some of the songs sound the same*).

Yes most of the songs are sappy and that is why a lot of people don't like this cd, but love is what this cd is all about.

Just to point out a few songs on the Cd:

Refuse to Dance(a good violin ballad in background) sounds like A Madonna song, its kind of a dark deep song.

The best song is The Power of Love, Celine's vocals are amazing! It has more of a rock edge to it.

The Colour of My Love is the most romantic song and if you a romantic at heart it could make you cry (some would also find is sappy/cheesy as well).

*Think Twice(excellent guitar ballad in the background), *Next Plane Out and *Only One Road, are very romantic ballads just as *Colour of My Love. All are good.

Remember L.A. is a sad song, remembering back to a previous relationship.

Anyway, this is a good cd to add to your collection just for the Power Of Love alone (the original verison).

WARNING if you are not into sappy songs this cd isn't for you...

After listening to it for awhile it might grow on you (I first thought it was ok and then each time i listened to it I liked it better and better).

    That's all for this Album..

2 out of 5 stars Step in the wrong direction.......2005-12-20

I love Celine Dion's music. Even though Mariah Carey is my all-time favorite I still love Celine's incredible voice. However she does have her misses... like this album. I am a huge fan of her Self-titled, "Falling Into You" and "Let's Talk About Love" albums. Unfortuantely I didn't enjoy this. It didn't seem like it was from the heart. it seemed like it was made for mass appeal like her debut album. The only songs I really liked was "The Power of Love"--one of her best singles. I'm being VERY generous for giving this 2 stars. The only reason I'm doing it is because of the "Power of Love." I'd reccomend "Celine Dion", "Falling Into You" or "Let's Talk About Love" over this anyday. D-

    5 out of 5 stars "America's greatest lost band".......2007-06-24

I am admittedly biased, since I produced a stage musical about The Remains, "All Good Things," and am in post-production on a documentary about the group, "They Were How You Told A Stranger About Rock'N'Roll"--the title is taken from the famous quote Jon Landau wrote in the January 67 Crawdaddy about The Remains after their breakup.

But don't take my word for how fantastic the music is. Just read the following opening sentences from Mark Kemp's review in the June '07 edition of Paste Magazine. (Mark, by the way, is the former music editor of Rolling Stone and VP of Music Editorial at MTV.)

"Good as Mick and Keith were at reimagining rhythm & blues as hard rock on The Rolling Stones' 1964 debut, they didn't hold a candle to what The Remains would deliver two years later. Had these Boston bad boys stuck it out beyond their 1966 debut, we might today be calling them--and not the Stones--the World's Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band. As it is, The Remains most certainly are America's greatest lost band."

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best of Boston --.......2007-05-20

and, for those who know sufficient 1960s Boston music scene history, originally from Brookline, they got their start at Boston University, and became the original house band of the Rathskeller (the "Rat") in Kenmore Square. For garage-rock lovers, and those who falsely believe punk began in the 1980s.

They opened for The Beatles for part of their 1966 US tour. And broke up shortly after their LP was released -- as happened with many of the day.

Last I heard, lead singer/guitarist Barry Tashian, and Eric Liljequist, formerly of the best band on Massachusetts's South Shore, The Orphans, after or in addition to years of work as Nashville session musicians, have been backing Emmylou Harris.

This has everything on the earlier releae on Epic/Legacy, except in this instance the first ten tracks are LP-order. This has the original LP cover, but it was the wrong photograph: the person second from the right -- David Sherman -- was their fill-in bass player (and long-time friend from late 1970s through mid-/late-1980s). I got the mono of the LP when it came out in 1966, and Dave gave me his stereo copy. So now I can have the LP-size cover, and at the same time preserve the near-mint vinyls.

Also well worth hearing is the CD release "A Session with The Remains," their audition tape for Capitol Records, an unrehearsed, straight-from-gig run-through of their stage set -- but without club noise. These guys were hot!

Why are you reading this? Buy the CD, put on the headphones, and turn it up!
