Amazon.com essential recording
Nakai's free improvisations on this album are based on his impressions of the Anasazi and Sinagua sites, ancient cliff dwellings that were home to communities of Native people thousands of years ago. By using the Roland SDE 3000 Digital Delay system, Nakai is able to play duets with his own echo, in an effort to emulate the echoes of the past that haunt these ruins. On this recording, Nakai's flute sounds even more plaintive than usual, as if the spirits of these forgotten ancestors had entered into the studio to fill his playing with the whispered reverberations of their ancient ways. This is one of Nakai's most deeply felt recordings, one that resonates with a deep, melancholy yearning. --j. poet

nice!.......2007-03-31
there's something about native flute that i find very relaxing, and it makes great background music when i'm in session with clients. Nakai does a fabulous job!
GREAT CARLOS NAKAI!.......2007-03-12
What a wonderful music for relaxing and happiness.
I am dreaming about forgotten times.
Thank you.
Hauntingly beautiful.......2007-01-15
I first heard of R. Carlos Nakai on the music channel I have on cable and I instantly fell in love with his music. This album is simply amazing, it's beauty is haunting and I can't begin to tell everyone how very pleased I am with my purchase of this cd. Every song is a masterpiece and the fact that each song is played in a canyon/cave adds to the mysterious quality of the music. This is a great album for anyone who is interested in Native American flute music and Nakai is the best in this genre.
The Master.......2007-01-04
This CD replaced a tape that has been a favorite of mine. Wonderful.
AWESOME Native American Flute Music!.......2006-11-14
R. Carlos Nakai is the best of the best among those playing Native American flute, and this C.D. is his absolute best. It transports one into higher dimensions and brings peace. I can't say enough good stuff about this C.D. I had wanted it for years and I finally got it! It was worth the wait.

Album Description
The eclectic interests of pianist Paul Barnes have taken him from monasteries in the Judean desert to the Liszt Academy in Budapest. Exploring both minimalism and religious symbolism in music, Barnes has been featured three times on NPR's Performance Today and has recently performed in Jerusalem, Moscow, Greece, Seoul, Vienna, Budapest and in the major cities throughout the US.
Deeply inspired by the aesthetic challenge of minimalism, Barnes has given several world premier performances of works by Philip Glass and has published a collection of his own transcriptions from Glass's operas. Barnes gave the world premier performance of Glass's Orphée Suite in New York City in April of 2001. Orange Mountain Music is vey happy to present this collection of piano transcriptions of these major Philip Glass compositions performed by the very talented pianist, Paul Barnes.
Customer Reviews:
RAVISHINGLY BEAUTIFUL! SUPERB!.......2004-02-12
This is the best CD of Philip Glass's music played on the piano besides Mr. Glass's "Etudes" CD!
If you've never heard Glass's music played on the piano before, you should start right here with this CD.
Paul Barnes' transcriptions and performances are simply brilliant. He is obviously a Glass fan and has transcribed and performed these pieces with great sensitivity and understanding of the music of the legendary Philip Glass.
The Orphee Suite is gorgeous. Powerful, romantic, yearning, passionate, tender, emotionally charged- these are words that describe the Orphee Suite. Any Glass detractor with a modicum of integrity would definitely have to tip their cap to Mr. Glass and Mr. Barnes and give them their just due after hearing The Orphee Suite.
Mr. Barnes' performance of the Dance from Akhnaten is amazing. It deserves special note as well.
Kudos and thanks to all involved in producing this wonderful CD of beautiful piano music!
Great liner notes by Mr. Barnes top off a perfect package.
Highest possible recommendation.
Glass Transcription.......2003-07-17
Another great disc from Orange Mountain Music, whose catalog of recordings is swiftly growing. On this disc, Paul Barnes interprets several works by Philip Glass, which is really quite fascinating because, as Glass himself composes at the piano, it's not hard to imagine that this is how the compositions sounded during their creation. Barnes is not only a wonderful pianist but also a skilful interpreter of Glass's music, being faithful to the original and at the same time quite creative and always spirited in his playing.
This is a very eloquent recording, essential for anyone who loves the magnificent work of Philip Glass.

Customer Reviews:
not to great.......2007-04-04
We were disappointed with this CD, but for the price I guess we can't expect much. I didn't care for the new style presentation of the songs. I like a more traditional rendering.
Not so bad, 100 tunes for 4$.......2005-06-22
I red the comments of two other people who have bought this 4 CD BOX SET and it is not really so bad. I will even add that there are some excellent tunes. However, I must agree with the fact that few tunes seem to have been recorded 40 or 50 years ago, mainly when you hear the scratches of an old turntable but it is just 2 or 3 tunes. Furthermore, if you do not know American music, it is a good BOX SET to buy if you consider that you received 4 CD for 4$ including 100 tunes. On these 4 CD, I have heard some orchestration that I have never heard before and I consider that they are different but interesting. Any way, after hearing these 100 tunes, you will say to yourself that you like this tune, this other tune, this other tune and so on and you will be able to buy a more expensive CD with the tunes that you like. However, I have bought many CDs in the last few weeks and as you know, there are always some tunes that you like and some tunes that you do not like on every CD that you will buy. So, don't buy it at 25$ but at 4 or 5$ dollars, it is a very good choice for 100 tunes.
You get what you pay for........2004-07-04
You get what you pay for. The singers put their own spin on the singing of each song. If you didn't hear the words you would not recognize some of them. Even some of the music sounds like a bad recording of music played on a turntable. Definitely not worth the price.
Now I know why there were no song samples to listen to ..........2004-07-04
I wish this review had been here when I was thinking of purchasing it. I guess you get what you pay for. If you are thinking of buying this, you are better off recording your own CDs (or at least buying one that you can listen to a sampling of the songs). This album includes songs that were mere recordings of the songs playing on an old record player. It's almost so unbelievable that it is funny.

cream of the cream.......2006-01-20
The three operas comprising Glass' trilogy are something special, but this disc of arias from those three operas is even better. The selections themselves, the pacing of the sequencing, and absolutely top-drawer performances make this a standout disc. It's a great introduction disc for those seeking to learn more about Philip Glass's operas without having to invest in the full length recordings, although Akhnaten especially is a masterpiece and more than worthy of the price for the complete opera. I've given this disc to many friends and received only grateful raves, even from those already familiar with Glass' music. Douglas Perry's singing deserves special mention; his singing of Evening Song from Satyagraha is perfect in every way, with immaculate phrasing and a kind of passion of restraint that is mesmerizing. Glass' intentions are deceptive to the ear; he is master of a simplicity that keeps giving. The selections from Einstein on the Beach are richly complex; even after years of listening, new directions continue to appear in the score, each time revealing another dimension, an idea not really noticed before will suddenly become clear and engaging, creating a wonderfully familiar listening experience. Beautiful stuff. The melismatic Bed aria from Einstein on the Beach is a joy, heartbreaking as it is. Milagro Vargas contributes passionate singing in the Window of Appearances, and some marvelous ensemble singing is generously spread throughout the entire disc. Glass' best work may be found in his opera scores, and this disc presents the cream of the cream. Check it for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
Gorgeous and lush!.......2004-06-02
This album is my favorite Philip Glass album. I remember the discordance of "Glassworks" in the early 1980s when Philip Glass became more well known with Steve Reich, John Adams, and other "minimalist" composers. Somewhere along the line, Glass has lost a lot of the real shocking discordance that he used to express energy. Some individuals cannot stand Glass's music and lament about its repetitive (and therefore boring) nature. Repetition is the real seed of this music. The repetition by itself can be a simple and beautiful thing, just like a fugue. Then it grows and blossoms out into various new and unexpected ways. I think that Glass really stuns the listener by using the speaking voice as an instrument. Voices read at times. The importance is in the sound of the voice, not the meaning of what is being read. It's an intellectual exercise as well as a lush and beautiful garden of sound and movement. Listen to it and experience its simple beauties. This is not country music. This is not "traditional" opera. It's a work of creativity and sensitivity. Shut your eyes and enjoy.
Strange and wonderful avant-garde opera.......2001-05-08
Man . . . how the hell do I start?
This is a collection of pieces from three operas scored by Philip Glass: "Satyagraha," "Akhnaten" and "Einstein on the Beach." They're about spiritual and moral pioneers: Ghandi in South Africa, the Egyptian leader who introduced monotheism and, well, Einstein.
I haven't seen these; I'm not sure if I'd like them. But some of these pieces are so stunningly beautiful and profound that I feel like looking up the full scores.
Not for everybody, especially the bits from Einstein, which consist of barely audible and repetitive muttering to the accompanyment of a chorus chanting numbers. Damn cool.
One of the best.......1999-12-01
I would say this is Mr. Glass' best work. The songs are simply beautiful. The orchestration is rich and complex, yet gives a tranquil quality. I highly recommend this album.
Real live electric combustion.......1999-01-25
Alright people listen up... This is Dusty Tex Tumbleweed of the American Funboys and I have a thing or two which I would like to share with all the Philip Glass fans out there regarding this here album. At first I was'nt quite sure what to make of it - I was a little hesitant because of the weird-looking artwork on the cover { I usually pick out my music based on several criteria - one of which is album cover art... I only see in pinks and browns so some album cover art makes my eyes hurt } When I saw this album it immediately made me feel sick to my stomach, but when I listened to it I was pleasantly surprised. Philip Glass went out on a limb by combining monotonous keyboard riffs and bizarre electronic chirrups { made my girlfriend Shawangtang have a kiniption fit on my red leather sofa.. } Anyway, I found that the more I listened to this album the more I liked it - at one point about seven minutes into the first movement you can distinctly here the sound of a dozen or so camouflage parrots sqwaking in time with the simple yet extremely tedious keyboard noodling of this great boring composer Philip Glass... simply ear spliting. I'm going to wrap up this album review by saying that Philip Glass is an amazing gentleman with an ear for really live electric sounding combustion... Peace, I'm out { Shawangtang and I are taking our manager Sir William Buorbonaugh out for raisin corndogs and chocolate ice water... and keep an eye out for me and the rest of the funboys this summer on the Tab sodapop steam-engine jetski tour }

Album Description
Elvis' home away from home was the Las Vegas Hilton and fans from around the world would gather to see the King do what he did best. The Follow That Dream label captures Elvis' 1972 winter performances in this great live Vegas concert CD. Many of the songs were only performed live once by Elvis and until now have never been available. Splendid performances by the King at his best taken from a handful of dates from January and February of '72. 2007.
Album Details

Customer Reviews:
Great live Elvis, but let down by sound quality.......2007-06-15
Follow That Dream compiled a show from Elvis Presley's Jan/Feb 1972 Las Vegas season. The bulk of the CD (tracks 1-17) consists of multi-track recordings, the remainder is taken from soundboard. Perversely, while the sound quality of the soundboard tracks is totally acceptable, the multi-track recordings (mastered by Lene Reidel) are a disappointment, lacking in punch and clarity, and suffering from a poor mix, especially when compared to earlier releases (e.g. "Burning Love" or the "Walk A Mile in My Shoes" box, or also the recent compilations which boast DSD audio).
Only part of the material here is unreleased, but the overall quality of Elvis' shows in this season is indisputable. 1972 was the year of the fabulous March sessions which gave us gems like "Burning Love" and "Always On My Mind", the rockumentary Elvis On Tour, and Elvis' appearances at Madison Square Garden. Here, at the beginning of the year, we get truly inspired versions of "You Gave Me A Mountain", "It's Impossible" (in an outstanding arrangement and beautifully sung - previously released, but now complete with a false start), "It's Over" (again, what a magnificent performance), "The Impossible Dream", "An American Trilogy", and "Until It's Time For You To Go". Live, Elvis would hardly ever sound as good again as he did here.
Content-wise "An American Trilogy" is a superb CD and it would have been a sure five-star release if it wasn't let down by the sound quality.

Album Description
The Front Porch Country Band was scheduled for a studio session on September 16, 2001, when tragedy struck the U.S. Shocked and saddened by the terrorist attacks, the band pulled together to express their love for America the only way they knew how - through beautiful music. America Standing Tall - The American Trilogy was recorded in a 36-hour marathon writing and recording session following September 11th, and was released on September 18th, exactly one week after the attacks.
The uplifting patriotic music soon hit radio airwaves across the U.S. and as far as Hawaii. An entire America Standing Tall concert series was built on the strength of the three songs, combined with more Original American Country from The Front Porch Country Band. The songs have reached Number One on MP3.com's WORLDWIDE charts in their categories. The album features beautiful vocal harmonies, soaring guitar solos, and bold instrumental accompaniment. "America Standing Tall" and "American Skies" are proud and patriotic, while "Echoes of Your Love" has been called one of the most beautiful soft and reflective songs about 9-11.

Johnny Jolin.......2003-03-15
Wow! What an awesome album, what a tribute to our fallen hereos.
The lead vocalist on American Standing Tall & Echoes of Your Love is an incredible singer. His voice is commanding and powerful on America standing tall and then touching soft and full of emotion and brillanty delivered on Echoes.I can't wait for more.
A Very Powerful CD.......2003-01-21
This is a really powerful album. You can tell it was recorded right after September 11th, the songs are very emotional. "Echoes Of Your Love" is a particularly good track that looks at the tragedy from the perspective of phone calls to loved ones.
A Salute To America's Heroes.......2003-01-21
When I first listened to The Front Porch Country Band's trilogy CD I was left speechless. The songs are definitely instant patriotic classics. This album is the perfect salute to our heroes!
Extremely Powerful Album.......2003-01-21
I saw The Front Porch Country Band perform the songs from this trilogy album at the band's concert in June 2002. I can't even begin to explain the surge of emotion I felt when I heard "American Skies" performed live for the first time. This album is a perfect example of the increased patriotism that has become part of our everyday lives.
