20+ years ago I bought this along with Larga Vida Rock and Roll on Kamaflage records as a 2 for the price of 1 special (on vinyl - if you don't know what that is ask your grandfather) for about the same price as a single import lp. Volumen Brutal was the one I liked the most (Larga is certainly good - but not great),so I chose to get this along with 2 more Baron cds (Metamorfosis and En un lugar de la Marcha) for my first Amazon purchase(Actually, I did order something previously from a related Amazon seller). I've had Meta on tape and have only heard about Lugar.I was very pleased with my entire buying experience. But what about the listening experience?
The listening is even better. One extra bonus is that whereas my record had 10 songs in English, here on cd you get both the English and Spanish versions (Except for the instromental) . Lyrics are given in Spanish (Why not for the Metamorfosis cd???)but not in English. This was recorded in England and had Colin Towns of Gillan lending a hand on keyboards. It seems like the NWOBHM had an influence in their music. Each song has it's own personality ("Termites" or "Son como Hormigas" has a saxaphone and sounds like something Cheech and Chong would do - kinda funky). Not every song is an all time classic but taken together they all add up to make one classic album that can't be improved upon. And what makes this a classic is first and foremost "Restire". This is an intense number in the same league as "Fast as a Shark" by Accept and "Searchlights" by Oz. This is quite an air guitar workout. The opener "Isolation ward" is wild, followed by "Rockers go to hell" which is a slower paced song to even things out. Three other songs are worthy of mention: the cool instro "Baron fly over England" is a nice addition (and no, listening to the Spanish accent is not annoying -it's rather unique). "Concert for them" deals with rockers who passed away too soon (the keyboard gives this a classy sound which fits the lyrics). This song was covered by Mago de Oz(who better than them to cover this song?), on a 2 disc tribute of this lp and Larga Vida by various newer bands. I was really surprised to know that such a cd even existed. And finally, "Flowers of Evil"(which I think is a metaphor for humans getting worse and worse) is not the fastest song, but defineately the best. What an awesome riff! Just a great song inside and out.
Baron Rojo played England's Reading festival around the time of this release. A few years later they kinda dropped off the radar for the most part among the English speaking world even among those in the underground like me. They continued making many albums, but they are not always easy to get ahold of. Amazon sure makes it easier. En un Lugar is a very good cd, demonstrating that good groups can continue putting out good quality music despite the coming and going of many trends in music. As I write this I'm awaiting the box set "Discografia Essential to arrive. Sometimes price factors make a difference what to buy (or not to buy - that is the question), but if you have only one Baron cd to get, and quality, not price is influencing your decision, this should be it, sin duda.

que pasa con el tiempo, cuando los discos giran y giran, perdiendo nexos con la actualidad...solo la musica original puede vencerlo....... creo que pasaron muchos años cuando solia escucharlo, con la tapa pegada en la pared de mi cuarto.. era la adolescencia de tachas y campera de cuero....ay, ay, que distinto me suena hoy, lleno de cliches metaleros, tufo a purple y demas.... no se, hoy ya no me representa nada, los años han vencido.......

Como ya saben Baron Rojo es uno de los mejores grupos, pero este disco no es el mejor de ellos, pero se merece comprarlo por que tiene muy buenos temas

si hubiera sido un disco de una banda yankee o inglesa, esta sería la pieza de rock mas importante de la humanidad de los años ochenta... increíble que sean españoles!

el rock en espa?ol es un fen?meno de vieja data, y este famoso grupo espa?ol es uno de sus m?s insignes representantes, este disco especialmente marca el punto m?s alto de la carrera de estos m?sicos espa?oles y su compromiso no solo con el sonido del rock duro, sino con las letras de caracter social y de protesta, tuve la oportunidad de verlos tocar en vivo en caracas(venezuela) este repertorio de los tempranos ochentas y fue una experiencia maravillosa, el sonido en vivo era muy parecido a lo que pueden escuchar en este trabajo, con la misma fuerza y la misma expresi?n del rock de verdad, un trabajo muy recomendable y muy nostalgico, tantos a?os despu?s.

BRUTAL VOLUME !!!!!!.......2005-08-06

The title tells mostly everything you need to know what this album is about.This band would refine their sound on further releases in favour of a more accomplished musicianship and ballads,thus softening to a point I no longer liked them.Absolutely not the case with their 2 essential first records,which are brutal traditional metal performed like a sledgehammer,with only hints of the subtlety to come.The solos are trebley and excrutiating,and the overall sound is good enough.Together with the first records from Panzer,Muro,Obus and Angeles Del Infierno,this is a milestone of spanish-sung heavy metal.

Hay muy pocos albums que resisten el paso del tiempo. hay muchas grabaciones que, luego de unos años, pierden fuerza, hasta lentamente pasar a ser un recuerdo divertido en las reuniones de amigos (uuuhhhh, te acordás esta canción!!??).

En el caso de BARON ROJO, cuanto mas pasa desde la edición del album, mas razón tenemos para admirarlos. sigo pensando que sus 4 primeros albums de estudio son objetos de culto (y si se quiere, BARON AL ROJO VIVO también).

hoy puedo escuchar cualquiera de estos temas y, mas allá de una cuestión de nostalgia, sigo pensando que hay bandas actuales que todavía no llegaron a ese nivel. por supuesto que en todo album hay temas mejores que otros, y los que YO destaco de este son 'LOS ROCKEROS VAN AL INFIERNO', 'SON COMO HORMIGAS', 'RESISTIRE', 'CONCIERTO PARA ELLOS', cuatro clásicos de BARON si los hay.

no lo duden, si lo ven dando vueltas comprenlo.

No olvidare jamas la primera vez que escuche la que ha sido para mi desde ese tiempo casi un himno:

ya han pasado 14 años y aunque ya para ese tiempo la cancion era vieja me volvi un fantico del grupo, llegue a tener varios de sus discos en vinil y ahora es fabuloso tener esta musica en CD. Para mi Baron Rojo son la mejor representacion del metal en Español. "Volumen Brutal" es en mi opinion el mejor disco que tienen o tal vez siento por este una afinidad especial porque fue el primero que tuve. Se los recomiendo ampliamente! y sigo diciendo: Resistire, resistire hasta al fin!!!

I was so fortunate to find out about this band. I can't tell you what they are singing about, but I can tell you that it rocks-every song. This is a classic album that will have you singing spanish even if you don't know a lick of the language. Truly inspiring, fun to jam and sing a long to. Don't pass this one by.
