Mentored by no less than Metallica's Lars Ulrich (who originally signed the San Francisco quartet to his Music Company label), Systematic continues to thrash aggressively against the contemporary rap-metal current. Their sophomore release is bolstered considerably by the new rhythm section of Paul Bostaph (ex-Slayer) and bassist Johnny Bechtel, who provide a solid, propulsive groove that allow the songs of guitarist/vocalist Tim Narducci and lead guitarist Adam Ruppel to explore a landscape that's as melodic as it is driving and often texturally compelling. But if the musical tack here is rooted in driving, old-school metal histrionics that both spans Black Sabbath and Metallica (Narducci's snarl often possessing a Hetfield-esque urgency) and skips the Limp-Linkin bandwagon, there's still a nagging sense that we've heard much of it before. Still, Narducci and Ruppel deserve credit for anchoring their agro-metal angst--the grinding grooves of "Shine" and "Infected," dark-emo rumblings of "Leaving Only Scars" and the shadowy, hypnotic respite of "Right Before You"--in honest musical frameworks instead of cheap attitude and production affectations. Sophomore albums are notoriously problematic, but this one's shortcomings seem minor in the scope of things and may form the foundation for greater things to come. --Jerry McCulley

Doug Aldrich RULES!!!.......2003-11-14

I've been a Doug Aldrich fan since back in the day when he was with the way underrated "Lion" with Kal Swan. Enjoyed the Hurricane album he was on, and then I thought "okay I guess that's it, he's faded into obscurity". Not the case fortunately, after a stint with Bad Moon Rising (also with Kal Swan), he returned with this band and in all honesty I think it's EASILY the best stuff he's done since Lion. Killer songwriting, AWESOME guitar (like there would be any doubt...). All in all it just sounds like they've really got their groove on. Reminds me quite a bit of Lynch Mob, but better somehow, I think the songwriting's a lot more consistent.

Anyone who loves hard rock and heavy metal will love this CD!Doug Aldrich is a guitar god!The vocals of Keith St John are comparable to the great David Coverdale but with his own unique twist!Every song will stick to your mind and you won't be able to stop listening to the CD once you put it on!It has been in my CD player for weeks.My sister heard it and went out and got it too!Every song is a classic!From hard-rockers like "Fireball"&"Stone cold n crazy" to epics like "Judgement Day" and power ballad "Cherie don't break my heart"-this album has got it all!Fans of Whitesnake,Dokken,Lynch Mob, ect. will love this!Buy it now!

even though the collection of 30 second samples would lead one to think that systematic was a band that really wanted to be like alice in chains, they really just want to suck like lane staley's heroin addiction. this is one of those bands that tries to combine the angst of grunge/alternative with the whining sissiness of emo. that combo just never works for me bucause emo sucks! hard! i don't know why people listen to it (maybe somthing having to do with why all guys want to look like girls now) but i wish that they would stop letting emo infect other forms of music. if you emo kids wanna be sissy girls thats fine, but keep your gayness out of alternative music and put back in show tunes where it belongs.

Systematic's Sophmore Release.......2005-07-18

'Pleasure To Burn' is Systematic's second album released late 2003. This is infact a continuation from their debut album with crashing guitar riffs and a turn toward the fine line between hard rock and dark metal. If you like bands like 'Godsmack, Staind or Linkin Park', you should enjoy systematic because this band who went on the road with each band has matured and learnt their lessons from the road and brought onboard two new band members. This is hard rock with bits and pieces of smashing metal and snarling menacing vocals.
The best songs on this album for me were 'Not Like You', 'Right Before You' and 'Shine'.

Four Good Tunes.......2004-10-13

Systematic's first release "Somewhere in Between" is one of my favorite recent metal albums, so when I decided to buy their sophmore release I thought I wouldn't be disappointed--I was. There are four good tunes: "Infected," "They Say (My Soul was Lost)," "Where We Live and Die," "Leaving Only Scars." "Leaving Only Scars" is the softest, but the lyrics are decent and the song is well structured. These four songs could have been on their first album. The rest of the tunes not mentioned are awful. I get the sense that Systematic is ripping off Metallica from the 1990's, that's the last band you want to rip off. If you can buy this CD used, do it. Don't waste you money for four decent songs. Three stars is being generous.

Best Rock CD!!.......2004-02-24

These guys are the best band I've listened to ever! I've seen them in concert also and they rock the house! I recommend buying this cd along tih the first album "Somewhere in Between"

Systematic's debut was a thing of brilliance. The follow-up, Pleasure to Burn, is still very strong, though not as brilliant. It has some standout tracks on it. "Pleasure to Burn", "Shine", and "Change" are all great metal songs. "Leaving Only Scars" sounds kinda like an early 90s Alice In Chains type song, and "Infected" is very developed.

This album is strong, which is nice, proving that Systematic still are a great band. It is an indicator of potential greatness. If they just take one more step, they will break huge.

If you're a Strung Out fan, please by this one..........2004-12-26

Deville is a Canadian band playing technical, fast, hard-hitting punk. They sound almost like Consumed, only faster. While Strung Out changed their sound almost completely to the worse, and Bigwig split up, Deville are the ones carrying on the torch. This album probably is not a four star rating, more of an 3,5 but I rate upwards for once becouse I love the concept of fast, energic pop-punk with an slim influence of metal. Although nothing in this special genre will beat Strung Out's "Suburbian Teenage Wasteland Blues" and "Twisted by Design", I still grow lyrical when a great peace like this comes up. I found this by a coincidence when I was into Propagandhi, but now I can make more people hear this. I never speak highly of popularity, I simply want people who loved Strung Out to remember the great days. I probably could give this album five stars to get people more convinced, but I won't sink that low.

Doug Aldrich of Hurricane and then Bad Moon Rising formed Burning Rain as a vehicle to return to his classic rock roots and that he did. The debut album was a surprisingly strong dose of blues drenched classic rock, with some great vocals from Keith St, John. On Pleasure To Burn, the guys pick up where the last album left off and deliver another great album in the same style as the debut. The only thing the guys do differently is take the debut album and better it. The sound is tighter, the production even better, Keith's vocals are more diverse and basically the album delivers on every level. This is the type of classic rock album that the Europeans and Japanese love. American fans should now take a good look at these guys, for a more polished blues hard rock album you will not find. Great quality song writing, a great blend of electric and acoustic guitar and a fantastic production that rivals any others out there.

WOW!!! GREAT CD!!!.......2002-03-19

Burning Rain is the latest band featuring guitar virtuoso Doug Aldrich. Doug has worked in several 80's hard rock bands, including Hurricane, House of Lords, Lion, Bad Moon Rising, and presently DIO. His guitar work on Pleasure to Burn is absolutely fantastic. This CD reminds me a lot of Whitesnake, as Keith St. John's vocals are somewhat similar to David Coverdale's, although a tad higher.

The real spotlight on this CD however is Doug Aldrich, whose guitar playing will blow you away. Very tight solos, that absolutely shred on every song. Cherrie Don't Break My Heart could have been on any Whitesnake album easily. Its a low tempo rocker, but most of the songs here, are loud, upbeat and rock heavy. Doug's Aldrich's previous music has been nothing short of excellent, and this CD is no different. It is well worth the 20 dollar asking price, as it is so much better than a lot of the stuff that is out there now. ...P>This CD is for all of those rock fans who have been longing for a hard rocking CD similar to those of the 80's Hard Rock Era. Fans of Whitesnake and Dokken should also check this out!! You will love this CD!!
