Customer Reviews:
An excellent piece of work.......2007-06-27
Truly one of their best works, with the early crew of Uli Roth leading the FORCE.
Pleasant beats........2007-06-04
The album has very good tunes. The Riot of your time has a very enjoyable blend of guitar sounds. Overal it is one of my favourite Scorpions albums from their earlier years.
Great album........2007-02-23
This is a great scorpions album. It ranks up there with Fly to the Rainbow and In Trance (my two favorite scorp albums.) I think it's better than Virgin Killer but I know others may disagree. Definitely a must if you like old scorps.
4.25 Beat Rainbow and Matched Van Halen the Same Year.......2005-12-24
As good as Rainbow's Long Live Rock 'N' Roll and Ac/Dc's Powerage were, it was this album and the first Van Halen that really got me excited back in 1977.In fact, this album comes close to reaching the heights of a Classic album like Judas Priest's Sin After Sin.
Although that says alot for this album, I must make clear from the start that this isn't overall the Monster album (in the good way) that Virgin Killer was, or the even better Tokyo Tapes and Lovedrive would be. However, that's very nitpicky, as all of the albums mentioned are well worth getting. It's like arguing over whether to buy UFO's Phenomenon or Force It first.
It's interesting to note how both Ac/Dc and Scorpions are classified as Hard Rock, yet the difference between the two is quite marked. Ac/Dc's mega-amped blooze-Zeppelin Rcok sounds only peripherally related to Scorpions. The difference is mostly in the quintessentially German, Diminished and Harmonic Minor-scale noodlings of Ulrich Roth and Rudolf Schenker. But it must also be pointed out that Klaus Meine's singing is on a very different level from Bon Scott's; Scott was more of a conversational screecher, whilst Klaus can pretty much do it all in the Rock Vocal department. He's simply more flexible and operatic (again, in the good way).
Just the song Sails of Charon is worth the measly amount of money you'd pay for this online. We'll Burn the Sky is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard; it truly a moving piece. Almost all of the other songs are very good...I have decided to not pick around at any particular song (or part of song) which I don't like.
Just take it from me: if you're into UFO, Michael Schenker Group, Yngwie Malmsteen, and ESPECIALLY if you're into the way below standard Scorpions material from the '80's, GET THIS ONE!
Scorpions most overlooked effort.........2005-08-26
.. in my opion atleast. Think about this for a moment, "Taken By Force" is sandwiched between two landmark albums which makes it hard for it to get any credability. "Virgin Killer" is considered by many fans the definative 70's Scorps album while "LoveDrive" is very important historically in the Scorps career in which they embarked on the MTV route.
I will admit this upfront, even though i am a fan, i never liked any of their 80's MTV material too much. It was not that i thought it was bad, it's not, the 80's stuff is quite good actually, but it really never appealed to me the way the 70's material did because it was just too generic and commerical sounding for my taste; simplified riffs and generic stupid lyrics about loving/missing/wanting to be with your "woman" and "rocking out", almost every other song they wrote was about that. The lesson is that greed is a destructive force, it has the ability to completey ruin great bands (look at Metallica), for the Scorpions it meant abandoning creativity and artistic integrity for the almighty dollar, the damage has been done and can not be repaired, now you can hear "Rock You Like A Hurricane" at almost every sporting event around the country.
This album was actauly the swan song for the meaningful and artistic Scorpions, it was the last album with Uli Jon Roth, who i feel was the creative nucleus of the Scorps of the old days. The songs are all pretty diverse; basic hard rock, metal, pyschadelic and beautiful ballads all inhabit this dark, moody work of art. It might throw some for a loop if they are only used to the 80's Scorpions.

Customer Reviews:
NOT their best!.......2003-02-15
I searced the world over for this album before it was finally rereleased last year. I've got to say that for all the hype, it wasn't nearly as good as I thought it would have been.
"In Trance" is my favorite Scorps album, with a wide variety of music going on, and great solos. With this album, I'd have to say that it could have been a bunch of studio outtakes. "We'll Burn The Sky" is, however, an excellent song, one of the best the Scorps have ever written, and "Sails of Charon" is interesting too. At the end of the day, I'd have to say that I was pretty disappointed with this, because I searched for it as if it were the Holy Grail, and it turned out to just be a beer stein instead.
Awsome music by these rock legends..........2002-12-28
The music is before it's time with scorching vocals by Klaus Meine and out of this world guitar work by guitar slingers Rudolph Schenker & Uli Roth. One for the books of classic rock albums. Highly recommended for any Scorpions fan...
One song makes it all worth it.......2002-09-07
I saw the Scorpions perform "We'll Burn the Sky" live on their last tour and I was totally blown away. This CD is worth getting just for this song. It stands up against the recognized classics of the 80's. The rest of the album is an acquired taste. Ulrich Roth was great on this album but seemed to be playing a different style than the rest of the band.
Remastered, but short-changed.......2002-09-01
Made in GER in 2001, Serial# 5-35147-2, Playing Time 48:18
I know most people will jump at the opportunity to grab this great album, especially since it was unavailable for the longest time.
BUT there's a slight twist here: sure, it includes 2 bonus tracks ("Suspender Love", the b-side to the "He's A Woman She's A Man" single, plus "Polar Nights" live, which was left out of the single-disc version of "Tokyo Nights" due to space constraints), HOWEVER this remastered version contains the EDITED version of "The Sails Of Charon"; the original Japanese pressing of this disc (released on CD back in 1989!) contained the FULL version, which is about 45 seconds longer.
So I saved a few bucks by avoiding the Japanese Remastered version (why pay more?). But I got a surgically altered version of my favorite track on this great album!!!
If that's unimportant to you, buy this version. But if you want the "original" full-length track, buy the Japanese re-issue... I simply HAD TO!!!
A Heavy Rock Masterpiece.......2002-05-06
There are so many great Scorpions albums, Fly To The Rainbow, In Trance, Lovedrive, and Love At First Sting just to scratch the surface. This outstanding album, mysteriously unavailable on cd for years just might be the cream of the crop. Kicking off with Steamrock Fever, this disc contains some real rocking gems. I've Got To Be Free, The Riot Of Your Time, and The Sails Of Charon. Even these epics pale to the Scorpions masterpiece of their earlier days, the haunting, driving, We'll Burn The Sky. I can't say enough about this disc. BUY IT!!!!!!!!!! Also this band is touring this summer here in the states and I've got my tickets!!!

If you like the Skorps..........2005-09-21
...then you probably already know about this album. Being an older, harder-to-find piece (I'm speaking about the graveyard cover, not the black-with-portraits cover), if you really want some good tunes, then you've found them.
Though this album sounds dated at times (music styles), there are other instances where the music takes some very "modern" turns. You can't say that the Skorpions were ahead of their time -as a whole- but they certainly were inching towards a kind of newness, borne of their great musical abilities. When you have good musicians working together, you're going to get good music.
The quality of the recording is very good, too, which is very evident when you compare this album to other albums of its time; there's some great music that's poorly recorded, and this is not in that camp.
The reason I wanted this album was so I could get my hands on the full, un-edited version of "Sails of Charon". Great mood, GREAT guitar work, great song. Some German bands would get campy, and though the Skorpions' lyrics sometimes lean towards the Old-Navy-Commercial feel, "Sails..." somehow manages to keep a straight face.
Overall, there are some great songs, and Roth really shines on this last album with the rest of the boys. If you want some radio-play Skorpions, this is not the album for you. If you want some good music with that fun, rockin' feel (and a good ballad thrown in... c'mon... it's the SKORPIONS...), then you'll enjoy this album.
NOTE: You might not want to pay upwards of twenty-five to thirty dollars for the graveyard-cover import, but you won't get the whole version of "Sails..." if you don't.
The end of an era..........2004-05-17
Taken By Force (1978.) Scorpions' fifth album.
1978 marked the end of an era for the Scorpions. It was in this era that the band's lead guitarist, virtuoso Ulrich Jon Roth left the band. This was also the album that marked the entrance of drummer Hermann Rarebell. But, before Roth's departure, the band would record one final studio album with his mastery - Taken By Force. How does their final effort with him measure up? Read on and find out.
To put it simply, if you liked the Virgin Killer album, or if you just like classic metal in general, you're going to love this album. The band kicks off the album with one of the fast-paced hard rocker, Steamrock Fever. They could not have started the album with a better track. Its fast and furious stylings grab your attention and hold onto it. Track two, a lengthy rocker entitled We'll Burn The Sky, combines heavy and melodic stylings, making for one of the band's finest efforts. I've Got To Be Free and Riot Of Your time, the next two tracks, are also masterpieces in their own right. Don't overlook them just because they were never popular - you'll only be hurting yourself! Track number five, Sails Of Charon, is the track on the album that tends to get the most praise - and with good reason. To the time, this was the hardest and heaviest song the band had ever recorded. The guitar stylings here are very similar to those found in Megadeth's Hangar 18. Ulrich Jon Roth never sounded better. Your Light is another rock masterpiece that is severely underrated. He's A Woman She's A Man, another extremely hard and heavy fast-paced rocker, comes next. Next to Sails Of Charon, this is the track on the album that gets the most praise - listen to it and find out why. The band closes the album out with the lengthy power ballad, Born To Touch Your Feelings. This is one of the finest ballads the band has ever recorded, and in my opinion it puts the ones they recorded in the eighties to shame. Overall, this is one of the band's best albums ever - DO NOT overlook it!
There are two different versions of this album available on compact disc. Version one is the original version of the album, with no extra tracks. Version two features pictures of the band's faces against an otherwise black background. This version of the album has an edited version of Sails Of Charon, but it adds two bonus tracks - The studio cut Suspender Love, and the live version of Polar Nights from the Tokyo Tapes live album.
It's too bad that Ulrich Jon Roth left the Scorpions following the recording of this album, because the band would be forever changed without his guitar mastery. He is by far the greatest lead guitarist that ever played in the band (that's not to say Michael Schenker and Matthias Jabs aren't good, though.) If you're a classic metal fan, this is an album you simply can't be without - it's essential.

incredible.......2005-02-25
Proclamation was a boston band which surfaced right around the hardcore revival circa 97. Unfortunately, many many people passed up this band because it was cooler to like In My Eyes, Floorpunch, and Ten Yard Fight.
On this, their last album, Proclamation went from a pretty basic TYF style youth crew, to INFEST influenced fast hardcore. This album is really incredible. Start to finish this is fast FAST (not quite thrash) hardcore, with mosh parts all over the place, and well-done, although somewhat cliche lyrics. The production on this is really killer too. The guitars have so much crunch to them, itll make you want to eat your cd.
If youre into fast hardcore with great pro-edge lyrics, get this now. Includes SEIGE and INFEST covers
