the classic line-up at their peak.......2007-07-31
Ace of Spades is the most famous Motorhead album for a good reason- it's nearly perfect. From the opening thrashing bass riff of the title track to the final notes of the closing song this is Motorhead in top form. There are other Motorhead albums that I think are as good as AOS, but it would be difficult to say any others are better. This is Fast Eddie, Philthy, and Lemmy in their prime, and the magic is obvious when listening to this CD. The blazing guitar solo in We Are The Road Crew, where Eddie literally falls over and the guitar feeds back in piercing noise, and then Eddie "recovers" and just picks up soloing again is one of the highlights of the entire Motorhead discography.
There is not a bad song on this album.
I highly recommend the "classic albums" DVD about the making of Ace of Spades as well, which is very interesting and entertaining.
Highlights: Ace of Spades, Shoot You in the Back, We Are the Road Crew, Jailbait, The Chase is Better Than the Catch, and bonus track Please Don't Touch.
Good, but overrated.......2007-07-15
Every classic band has an overrated album. And this is Motorheads. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad by any means, but I tend to think of as a middle of the pack album. It's better than thir debut album, but I personally think that both Overkill and Bomber, their two previous albums are better. Maybe Ace Of Spades is so highly acclaimed because it has their "classic" hit, Ace Of Spades. It's a great song certainly, (although I'm pretty sick of hearing it by now) but the rest of the album doesn't quite add up as a whole to truly earn the title of "Motorheads greatest". The production is sometimes atrocious, and has some of the worst "stereo" effects I've heard. In fact in frequently sounds as if it was recorded in mono.
Production issues aside, there are some some songs that frankly just aren't all that strong. Live To Win, Fast And Loose, Fire , Fire and Bite The Bullet are all quite mediocre (although there are some good good guitar solos scattered throughout these songs. Love Me Like A Reptile, Shoot You In The Back and The Cahse Is Better Than The Catch are all good songs, but not quite what I would call classic. In fact apart from Ace Of Spades the only songs that I would consider worthy of classic status are (We Are) The Raod Crew with it's locomotive pace and inspired guitar freak out finale, and The Hammer, a song that although good on the album, really is in it's own element in No Sleep Til Hammersmnith.
I enjoy Ace Of Spades for sure, as it does have some of Motorheads best moments, and captures their early youthful aggression and enthusiasm as opposed to their later grizzled veteran craftmanship but I really don't consider the entire album to be their best. If you have a desire to explore Motorhead then I think it's an album that you should hear, but in my opinion Bomber is better than this, and most of their 1990s releases are easily as strong as Ace Of Spades. I'm a huge fan of the band, but I sometimes think that some rock fans miss out by only buying "Motorheads best", and skip the rest of their catalog, assuming that it's all downhill from there.
If you only got one Motorhead CD, make it this one.......2007-06-07
This is the best quality Motorhead CD I have heard, and it is in my opinion better than the Overkill CD (supposed to be the best they did).
The Ace of Spades album rocks, and if you dont like this one, you will not likely like Moterhead. This album also is one of the series that Eddie Clark plays on. To me, he was the driving sound of Motorhead, and when they were a classic trio, he was the guitar player.
You cant go wrong with this one!
Who would be proud of you?.......2007-01-31
Sonic arcane layover. Memorable vanishing point. Who would be proud? How about John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez, Hank Williams Sr., Can, Michelangelo Antonioni, Donald Judd, Andreas Baader, Idi Amin, Erwin Rommel, Andrew Carnegie, John Cassavetes, Syd Barrett, Rod Laver, Charlotte Rampling, William Burroughs, Ronald Reagan, Albert Hoffman, Pol Pot, Terrence Mallick,Dan Gurney, John Muir, ETA, Mopar, Stonewall Jackson, Gilles Deleuze,Jacques Lacan, Jean Claude Killy, Mengistu Haile Mariam, António de Oliveira Salazar, Meriwether Lewis, Allen Dulles, Paul Bowles, Le Corbusier,William Mulholland,Girolamo Savonarola, Moshe Dayan, Hamilcar Barca,John Calvin, Jim Jones, Enzo Ferrari, Dennis Conner, Louis Pasteur, Carl Jung, William Handy, Junípero Serra, Mark Twain, Brigate Rosse, Alfredo Strössner, Charley Patton,Mark Hopkins, Mies van der Rohe, Aaron Burr, Clemens von Metternich, Roger Moore, John Fahey.

Cult classic that should be as big as .......2007-01-22
Motorhead share many qualities with another tried and true rowdy bunch of rockers, AC/DC. Unlike their Aussie counterparts, Motorhead never had the U.S. breakthrough that catapulted AC/DC into the mega-legends they are. Perhaps it's because Motorhead is still as caustic, bombastic and offensive as ever, meaning their signature album, "Ace Of Spades" is just too abrasive for radio, along with everything else they've ever done.
This, of course, is an injustice. The classic line-up of Lemmy Kilmister, Fast Eddie Clarke and Phil Taylor created several albums of such intensity and power that even after the inception of outfits like Exodus, Metallica, Sepultura and other heavyweights, Motorhead still sound heavy, loud and rude. No passage of time has been able to corrode or modify their attack. For that alone, they belong in the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame.
"Ace Of Spades" is the high point of Motorhead. Producer Vic Maile gave this album a sound that throws you back against the wall and pins you there until the CD is finally over. The best part is, you want to stay trapped. Far better musicians than they ever wanted you to know they are, this album is full of hooks within the barrage, and Clarke's bluesy riffs and leads add style and form to the music, which allows it to not just run over your head over and over, but to actually swing a little, "Fast And Loose" being a good example.
"Bite The Bullet" is punk fast, and funny, too. "Fire, Fire" is as hot as the title and "The Hammer" leaves you in no doubt that what Lemmy says he'll do, he'll do it. No tough guy in lipstick and drag whipped posing for this guy. The three extras aren't quite as up to par as the original album, with the band ahem, joining Girlschool for a three song set that rock, but are timid compared to the rest of "Ace Of Spades".
Strong proof that loving your music and believing in it shows, as this and many other Motorhead gems are easily available, thanks to their loyal followers. Unlike some reviews that claim Motorhead won't attract new listeners, I disagree. This outfit is better known than ever, and my own nephews a generation behind me have begun to get into rock's gnarliest outfit.

Really Best of!!.......2007-06-27
This collection was not chosen well. The band's early years are covered well, but the still-in-print No Remorse is a much better collection of the early years. This collection skimps on the last 12 years worth of Motorhead, with only one selection each (and never the best) from fan favorite albums like 1916, Sacrifice and Snake Bite Love. Space is also wasted on a track by Girlschool (covering a Motorhead song) and a song by leader Lemmy's previous band, Hawkwind.
If you want a sampling of Motorhead, No Remorse covers the first 8 years well. In addition, where is beautiful ballads?
It's what I was expecting.......2007-05-15
I would highly suggest this for someone who likes the band and doesn't want to have to buy a lot of cds to get a lot of motorhead. They have a huge catalog and unless you're die hard you should be satisfied with this.
Not the best collection of "Best of".......2007-03-12
Multiple obvious incorrect choices for a greatest hits. You would think that they could get all the best with 40-45 songs to work with but they didn't. Too many earlier songs with Lemmy's other bands and too many crowd favorites that aren't as good on CD as they are live. Still entertaining as all Motorhead albums are, but somewhat lacking.
Strong Collection for One of Metal's Greats........2006-08-07
There have been innumerable Motorhead collections over the years, but this is one of the few that attempts to mix old with the new. On this collection, all the classics are present, and some newer material is thrown in as well. Unfortunately, there are some throw-away tracks, mainly the Girlscool and Headgirl tracks. (To be honest, these tracks are pretty much worthless.) Some live tracks are meshed in and fit well, and the newer songs help to add some variety to the old-scool stuff.
I would recommend this collection to listeners looking to get a nice, cheap collection of some of Motorhead's best just for the sake of getting into the band. But if you're wanting the prime collection of older material, save up some extra dough and buy "No Remorse" or "Stone Deaf Forever."
Not my favorite compilation from a metal group.......2006-02-21
Just before I bought this I found an special version of Overkill with some bonus tracks. I expected this disc as a complement for that amazing special edition of my favorite Motorhead disc, but it was disaponting. From my point of view, it doesn't have some of the great songs like "Don't let dady kiss me" and more. Besides this includes Motorhead's version played for other groups, wasn't a Motorhead compilation? Not a good compilation of this cutting edge metal group.

Customer Reviews:
Motorhead Masterpiece.......2007-07-31
Over Kill is my personal favorite Motorhead album. It's rough and raw compared to the more polished megaseller Ace of Spades, and it's packed with better songs compared to Bomber. The multiple "false" endings of the title track into the beginning of Stay Clean is one of my favorite segue ways ever. This is a must have CD for anyone interested in Motorhead, heavy metal, punk, thrash, or any other genre of "fast and loud" music. Philthy opens the album with thunderous drums, and the energy doesn't let up until the CD is done. Fast Eddie is on fire throughout, and some of Lemmy's best lyrics (and even a bass solo during Stay Clean) are featured as well. If you are a new fan this is a great CD to start with; if you've been into Motorhead for a while and don't have this one you're missing the most important piece of the band's history.
Four of my all-time favorite Motorhead songs are on here: Over Kill, Stay Clean, No Class, and Damage Case. Other highlights include I'll Be Your Sister, Capricorn, Too Late Too Late, and Like A Nightmare. The Louie Louie bonus tracks are a great piece of Motorhistory to have included on this disc too.
Best European metal album ever.......2007-04-12
For all you American metalheads raised on Metallica and Guns N' Roses, better buy this album and start a whole new life. If you're looking for the quintessential heavy metal album, want to know what metal was like at the height of its glory, well you finally found it.
No metal band ever did any better than Motorhead on this dark, grinding, and super-cool killer album. Overkill, Stay Clean, Metropolis, Capricorn and No Class are the top classics but the whole album will blow you away start to finish.
The most groundbreaking thing about this record was that it was at the same time aggressive, melancholic and cool. It has the energy of metal, the dark, post-industrial sound of space rock, the no-future feel of punk, and the basic, but very effective, song schemes of rock 'n roll. Thanks to the great guitar work and drumming by Fast Eddie and Philty Animal Taylor, the music is never too dense or plodding along. But it is mainly the emphasis on Lemmy's bass lines that makes it achieve the most difficult thing in hard music: to combine a raw edge with a soulful groove.
A testament to its greatness and originality, this album has had an enduring influence on just about any hard and guitar-driven music genre since the end of the seventies: heavy metal, black metal, hardcore punk, Oi!, D-beat, groove metal, stoner rock, post-grunge etc. Metallica, Venom, Slayer, Discharge, GBH, Sodom, Sepultura, Monster Magnet, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, none of those bands would exist without Motorhead's Overkill. Just get it, it's the best European metal album ever.
If you're starting your 70's/80's European metal collection from scratch, the other classic-but-often-neglected albums to buy are Unleashed in the East (Judas Priest), In Trance (Scorpions), Killers (Iron Maiden), Restless and Wild (Accept), Melissa (Mercyful Fate), Welcome to Hell (Venom), Infernal Overkill (Destruction), and Morbid Tales (Celtic Frost).
GREAT STUFF.......2006-06-05
If you want some good ol' fashion raw speed metal, this is your album. Fast, loud, and raw. This is one Motorhead album, ofcourse Motorhead is one great band. So yea, if you want some good speed metal this is for you.
favorite motorhead.......2006-06-04
Motorhead is one of the most influential bands - they made speed metal rock n roll and influenced a lot of metal and rock bands who like to play it fast. late 70s saw the release of Overkill which is a killer of a record and saw speed metal bring a popular early start. motorhead is still strong today too!!
Motorhead's first classic.......2006-05-07
"Overkill" was a big step forward from Motorhead's eponymous debut, it cemented the group's famous sound, and it features the classics "Metropolis," "Stay Clean," "No Class," and the title track. But nearly every song on here is a hit, and these songs will tattoo themselves to your brain after only one listen. The beats are ultra infectious and rhythmic, and are laden with irresistable hooks, and the songs are composed of fast, memorable, groovey riffs, bouncy drum patterns, grumbling bass notes, and gruff vocals.
The album begins with one of the best. "Overkill" (the title track) is driven by a propulsive, fast, thumping, speed-punk drum beat, and is complimented with a very catchy guitar line and a wailing guitar solo. The album continues with "Stay Clean," which features wah-wah guitars and a chorus you'll have bouncing around your head for days. Later on, "No Class," which has a toe-tapping rhythm, is a concert and fan favorite, and "Damage Case" boasts a pair of fairly long solos and another unforgettable chorus. Track eight, "Tear Ya Down," has some almost breathtakingly awesome guitar work, and, likewise, "Metropolis" has five wailing solos; and "Limb From Limb" is highlighted by humming riffs, crashing drums, and three speaker-shredding solos.
If you get the remastered edition of this album (which you should and most likely will), five extra tracks are included, including two b-sides ("Too Late, Too Late" and "Like A Nightmare"), as well as an instrumental version of "Tear Ya Down," and two covers of "Louie Louie" (both of which are as catchy--maybe even catchier--than the original).
So, 1980's "Ace of Spades" may have catapulted Motorhead into superstardom and the mainstream, but their second album, 1979's "Overkill," was their first classic (which is arguably as great as "Ace of Spades"). If you consider yourself any kind of Motorhead, speed metal, or heavy metal fan, this disc is a must.

This is where I started with Motorhead. I still consider it essential, despite owning "Stone Deaf Forever". Pure "Motor-Music".
FREAKIN AWESOME!.......2006-09-30
This is the best Motorhead compliation out there. It contains all the classics and very little filler. Unfortunately, Motorhead has released some great songs since ("I Don't Believe a Word", Deaf Forever", "Devils", Living In the Past", Orgasmatron", Love Me Forever") so those gems will not be found here. That said, this is the starting point for any Motorhead or heavy metal fan.
... absolutely happy!.......2006-02-22
Before ordering the item at Amazon, I tried to obtain it from my reteiler in Italy. I gave it up after 3 months; with Amazon I've got it within somewhat more than 2 weeks. Absolutely happy, excellent CD, good quality!
Only if you are looking for lost tracks.......2005-03-31
I bought this as my first Motorhead album. It was a flashback to when I was 14 and metal ruled the world. However, even then Motorhead was never quite as accepted as more 'main-stream' metal bands, like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Still, Motorhead tended to rock harder, as if to say,"You're more popular, but we're still going to kick your tails!"
On to the album: If you have the 'Best Of' collection, there's not much need for this one. All the big hits found here are there, plus Best Of features even more. NO REMORSE is only necessary if you're looking for some neat tracks not found elsewhere.
It's fun to hear Wendy O. Williams join the boys on a cover of No Class and a rousing version of 'Stand By Your Man'. And Snaggletooth is a bonifide rocker. However, the rest of the stuff is found on Best Of, and with better production.
So, if you're a die-hard rounding out your collection, go for this one. IF you're a newbie looking for a good place to get started, go for the Best Of compilation.
no remorse II.......2004-02-25
I have to agree with the low star guy. I have this on cassett and it is quite differentin the songs. They are the same titles but some of them are live, To Late To late to name one.If I did not already have this set I would get The Best of Motorhead. It has many more songs or the after Killed by Death area.

Real Rockers........2007-07-24
I listen a motörhead album first time all my life. And I like this guys. I am rocker since long time. But I didn't like funkyrock or don't be melodic music. Good and strongly album.Awesome sound and melodic structur.
If you didn't listen to motörhead like me before, Just buy and listen. Never regret.
Rock solid Motorhead, but overall, not outstanding.......2007-06-29
Tell you the truth these days I don't listen to all that much rock music these days. I was pretty much a metalhead at school but as I get into my thirties my musical tatses have....not really "mellowed" per se, but certainly diversified in to other genres of music. Motorhead are somewhat of an exception to this, and have been a big favourite for nearly 20 years.
Lemmy- the man has gone beyond rock star status for me into an inspiration. He's devoted his life to Motorhead, being true to what he believes. He's the epitome of honesty. And at 61 he's still rocking away. (To put it into perspective Beethoven was late fifties when he passed away.) I salute you sir!
As for the album itself, as much as I enjoy it, I would tend to think of it as "good" rather than "great". It's solid, consistent, but the only exceptional track for me was Living In The Past. Compare this to say, Hammered, an album that has some truly excellent songs, mixed with some forgettable filler material.
You may disagree, but if everyone had the same opinion , then reviews would be boring!
Worth owning if you're a Motorhead fan. If this is your first Motorhead album, then I think you've got a decent idea of what the band is about, but better material awaits you.
Just Motorhead.......2007-05-28
i was into Moterhead way before any person respected them, but isn't that music and the industry? This cd sees them not slowing down. They are like the rock that never gets erroded with time,it's still standing. They have some really good riffs and can still blow the balls of a charging rhino.
Lemmy is immortal and these guys will always be legends in my book
And im not much of a metal man........2007-03-13
There is not much of metal i like.I like metalica, judas priest, iron maiden, motorhead and a few others that most people never heard. And this album just fu**k*n* rocks!Inferno was good with about 5 songs i really loved, this one i like at least 7 songs.
Gettin' better with time........2007-02-06
When most bands tend to "loose it" over a period of time, a (very) select few don't. Motorhead falls into the latter catagory. Another great album by the band that will never grow old or go away. LEMMY IS THE MAN!!!!

Great cd.......2007-03-31
Before I start on this cd Iam new to Motorhead I started with the Ace of Spades and Overkill.
This album in my opinion has 8 great classic songs on it.
Terminal show,Killers, In the name of tragedy, Suicide, In the Black, Fight, In the year of the wolf, and Whorehouse Blues are all 5 star tracks
the others non mentioned are 4 star tracks which are enjoyable to listen to but not as much as those 8
8/12 tracks being great on that album makes it a 5 star album
Everything better than everyone else.......2006-08-29
Although 'Inferno' may not be the best Motorhead album w/ the current line up (I reserve that distinction for 'Bastards' or 'Sacrifice', so far), it certainly kicks some serious tail. The two best tracks are definitely "In The Black", a grinding rant about stalking Miss Right(now), and "Smiling Like a Killer" which is an all-out revisit (but by no a re-hash) of "The Hammer". What I don't understand is why other reviewers compare Motorhead to bands who are, at best, suited to carry Motorhead's equipment (Slayer/Metallica). Motohead is "it"... to rock'n'roll what Cash is to folk/country. If you want rock, buy Motorhead.
Probably Motorhead's best. 5 Stars. Lemmy is an immortal punk/metal legend!.......2006-08-16
Now THIS is what Motorhead's all about. After a looong time Motorhead is sounding like Motorhead again. This stuff just KILLS the new stuff by Metallica (St anger..puke!) and Megadeth (TSHF). Funny how the band (Lemmy of course) who inspired them all is now beginning to actually surpass their inspirations 20+ years later. Truly standout tracks on this release are ''Lifes a Bitch'', and ''Killers''. Best rock album of 2004 IMO. Buy or POSE, choice is yours..
Motorhead returns to form.......2006-06-18
After too many mediocre ("March or Die", "Hammered", "We are Motorhead"), or almost-good ("B*stards", "Sacrifice"), or downright bad ("Snake Bite Love"), albums, this is a true return to form by Lemmy and the boys. Much of this seems to be related to the new producer hired for this album (and for the upcoming one), Cameron Webb. On the bonus DVD that accompanies some Inferno copies, Lemmy admits that Webb got them out of their old routine and really pushed them to 'try a little harder' this time.
And it shows. You can hear that a lot of care has gone into (most of) the songs, the production is cool and understated, and Lemmy's voice hasn't sounded better for a long time. OK, so there is no "Ace of Spades" or "Overkill" on this one, but the overall standard of the songs is very high nonetheless. "Killers", "Down on Me", "In the Black", "In the Year of the Wolf", "In the Name of Tragedy", "Suicide", "Whorehouse Blues" are the stand-out tracks, really outstanding stuff. Maybe it also has something to do with Lemmy's involvement with Dave Grohl and Probot, that all of a sudden Motorhead sounds relevant again, and ready to conquer a new generation of fans.
So please, none of that "Hey, this is Motorhead, these guys put out the same album every year, and it's always cool, so just go ahead and buy it", no, Inferno is different, and good. I remember hearing Orgasmatron on the radio when it was released, 20 years ago this year. Inferno is easily the best Motorhead studio album I've heard ever since.
half of this is really great.......2006-06-11
Inferno is not a bad album by any means, but my interest in it has worn off just a little bit since my first enthusiatic initial listens. it's hard to shake the sense of thinking there are a few too many Lemmy and Co. on auto pilot moments here...but the sense of dynamics is hightened to reveal some fresh ideas in the Motorhead camp. most notable in "Keys To The Kingdom" which has a great groove and is catchy as hell.

Since 1975 Motörhead--spearheaded by the grungy, iconic British metalhead Lemmy Kilmister--has been churning out speedy, macho, aggro anthems, including "Ace of Spades," "Killed by Death," and "Eat the Rich." The phrases "trendy" or "critical favorites" have never been attached to the Grammy-nominated band, and Hammered isn't the record to change Motörhead's antiestablishment standing. The 11-song outing (plus two bonus tracks) will, however, satiate longtime fans. The power trio rages--complete with piercing guitar solos and double-bass drums--on the urgent and winning "Brave New World," and is only slightly more mainstream on "Walk a Crooked Mile," which boasts melodic choruses and backup vocals, and crunchy rhythms matched with Lemmy's trademark gruff, guttural talk-singing. Lemmy's no sex symbol, and it's disquieting to hear him sing somewhat romantic lyrics on "Dr. Love" and "Mine All Mine." The songs like "No Remorse" and "Voices from the War" seem more suited to the singer-bassist's brusque persona. In fact, Hammered's most definitive Motörhead-esque cut is probably the bloody "Red Raw," which will give all but the most practiced headbangers whiplash. --Katherine Turman

Motorhead shines with class again!.......2007-04-06
Lemmy,Mikkey Dee, and Phillip Campbell write and record another excellent album, If your a Motorhead fan you will like this one a lot!!
Another classic Motorhead disk!.......2007-02-14
Another great disk by Lemmy & Co. Always true to their (his) original goal and have never wandered from it. Motorhead seem destined to go on forever!!!!
Not great but HEY! Its Motorhead!.......2005-10-09
This album honestly is just not good. Dont get me wrong, motorhead is definaltey one of my top three favorite bands, and ive seen them twice in concert, but this album just doesnt cut it! It is waaaaay too melodic and poetic. I know everyone was waiting for another motorhead album three years ago, but this definatley did not satisfy me. If you are someone new to motorhead, dont get this, get bomber, ace of spades, overkill, and no sleep til' hammersmith first. Bit seriously I am so glad inferno came out, it seriously kicked ass go get that one too.
Motorhead Will Never Die.......2005-07-23
I was really stunned by this album, because it got great peaks in U.K Charts, European Charts, and yet in the U.S. this album almost doesn't exist. This album is really very good, starts off a little rocky but when Brave New World hits, and that impressive solo pulled off by Phil Campbell is really impressive. Voices From The War is a very serious song but is very well done. Shut Your Mouth is a more fun track, sounds like Motorhead really has fun with it. Kill The World has a great bass sound pulled off by Lemmy. No Remorse, not only brings back an old title from Motorhead but a very good song, a slow rough Bass sound and an impressive guitar solo makes the song really good. Also, Red Raw brings back some of the ingredients from Ace Of Spades, but this tune surprisingly moves faster. I forgot the title of the next track, but it is all poetry with Triple H doing a little bit of vocals himself. Very short but very good, Lemmy is extremely awesome. Also, Motorhead's WWE Track The Game, which is not exactly a classic Motorhead song, but definitely a classic for Triple H and WWE, the song is probably the most original entrance song i've ever heard. Overnight Sensation is kind of lousy, doesn't have good sound.
Overall, this album is classic Motorhead, with some new sound in some songs and that Classic Motorhead sound in the rest, this album is perfect.
At last I have found it!.......2005-03-29
(the title= i lost this cd and just found it about an hour ago) I am a young (born in 1992) fat english punk who lives in California. without this band, i might never have been born. My dad before dating someone always used to ask 'what is your goal in life and what is your faverite band?" when my parents met in a pub in london called 'the pheonix and firkin' my mum replied "to be happy, and motorhead." if motorhead wasn't her faverite band they may never have dated. anyway, I love this cd, although i prefer older classics like 'ace of spades' this is wonderful and brilliant. Red Raw is one of my faverite songs. Motorhead is fulfilling the musical needs of my generation and my mums, and hopefully will coninue to for many generations to come.

Jack The Ripper.......2007-04-26
How does Motorhead follow up the experimental 4.5 star album 1916 with a even better album "March or Die"
1. Stand starts off the arsenal with a great speed and motovational lyrics, followed by the cover of 2. Cat Scratch Fever which is just great, 3. Bad Religion another classic off this album, 4. Jack The Ripper is probably my favorite track on the cd, 5. I Ain't No Nice Guy with Ozzy is a classic,6. Hellraiser is great to drive around in your car blarring the track with the windows down, 7. Asylum Choir, 8. Too Good To Be True are four star tracks, 9. You Better Run is another classic, 10. Name in vain 4 stars, and finally 11. March or Die is a 4 star track they have made better title tracks than this but still good nonetheless
Motorhead's Best By Far!!!!.......2007-03-02
First of all, I'm not Roland E. Roberts - that's my dad - had to use his name because of age. Now.............
How could you not like this album? First of all, the title track sums up our world - listen to the lyrics - it's us! We lie, cheat, decieve. Lemmy has got it straight in this song! Just look around! Second, the riffs are amazing and the lyrics just seem to fall into place! And third, Ozzy and Slash (two icons of R&R) team up with Lemmy for I Ain't No Nice Guy. The God of Rock has sent me a message - if you have ever heard of Motorhead - GET THIS ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent.......2005-09-22
The greatest metal band in the world with anther stellar cd. Generic Motorhead critics say, but what you expect? These guys have kicked ass for more then 30 years and Lemmy's voice has not faded like Ozzy, Slayer, amung some other metal bands. The songs are hard rock at its finest, and the 1 ballad per album (has happened since the beginning of the 1990s for some reason)is thoughtful and beautiful. One of the best albums by the most underlooked metal band in the world.
Unbelievably brilliant....another top-notch effort !.......2005-02-25
'March or Die' is, simply put, a brilliant album. Motorhead has been so consistant and so friggin' good for so many years now...they may very well be the greatest heavy metal band of all time (settle down, Zeppelin and Sabbath fans, I'm about to explain myself...). What sets Motorhead apart from most metal bands are two qualities: the tight, take-no-prisoners-hellraiser-on-wheels assault of the playing and, most of all, Lemmy's songwriting. Scan the lyric sheet here and see Lemmy take on -- quite brilliantly, I might add -- TV evangelists in 'Bad Religion', politicians who create wars and abuse the environment in the title track, and the power balladeers by writing one called 'I Ain't No Nice Guy', making it an acoustic duet with Ozzy guesting on vocals, and giving it a melody that will stick in your head for days on end. Add a smokin' touch of boogie-woogie piano here and there and guitar-and-bass solos that will rip your tonsils out and make your heart thump, and what you have is one unbeatable band. Anyone who thinks that 'March Or Die' is Motorhead's commercial sell-out album just hasn't been listening close enough. Every band should sell-out like this !! They hold the legacy of the Ramones and Sex Pistols' attack dear to their hearts while staying true to the purest expression of heavy metal form around. We should feel blessed that they are still around making one wonderful album after another, and that we are still able to catch them live. Born to Lose, Live to Win -- indeed !!
KILLS!!!!.......2003-10-29
With the exception of the opener, "Stand", There is not a dull moment in this CD. The favorites of mine are Jack the Ripper, Name in Vain, Too Good to Be True, Hellraiser, Asylum Choir and Bad Religion. I'll start with the absolute favorite one of mine, Name in Vain. This song is very fast-paced with KILLER and I mean KILLER, smack you across the face, heart-stopping guitar work. It's loud, it's mean, it's fast as hell, what more could you want from Motorhead??!! Not fast as in speed metal fast, but fast nonetheless. Lemmy SHOUTS out the lyrics at you so that you bloody well know not to.."take his name in vain!" Inbetween Lemmy's fierce singing, there is some fast, vicious guitar work that only builds and builds as the song goes on and the second solo will blow your mind!!- Too Good To Be true is a love song, but a hard, fast and upbeat Motorhead styled love song where Lemmy does some incredible harmony singing!! I've worn this song out so much in my tape deck it's sick!! Jack the Ripper is a frantic, fast-paced track about Lemmy warning people about Jack the Ripper's legacy. And there's a part in the song where Lemmy slows down the pace and gives some chilling lyrics to creep you out and then build you back up to the quick, frantic pace again. Two slower, yet very dirty, greasy Motorhead tracks on the album are Bad Religion and Hellraiser, for when you feel like slowing it down a bit. They both contain the trademark dirty, graesy heavy bass and lemmy's growling that we've all loved for over 20 years.

Few bands can experience the constant personnel shifts that have plagued Motörhead and still manage to keep their signature sound intact. Bassist Lemmy Kilmister--the only original member to hang on for the band's entire wild ride--had a vision of proto-thrash-metal that has proved too pure and simple to ever require tinkering. Recorded more than a decade and a half into the band's career, 1916 offers a high-energy mix of bone-crunching metallic mayhem that is loud, fast, and intense but never takes itself too seriously. A piece of seriocomic braggadocio such as "I'm So Bad (Baby I Don't Care)" or "Ramones," a nod to the pioneering punk band, is typical. A notable exception, however, is the title track, a bleak ballad cataloging the horrors of World War I through the eyes of a doomed teenage soldier. --Daniel Durchholz
Customer Reviews:
Motorhead rejuvenated.......2007-07-06
As a long term fan I have to say that I enjoy all the Motorhead lineups. After Orgasmatron and Rock and Roll, two good, but not *outstanding* albums Motorhead seemed to find a new inspiration somewhere. The album sounds much, I don't know, "fresher" than the two previous Campbell/ Wurzel albums. The production is better I think, but apart from that the songs themselves sound like the band have been doing some fine tuning. The first three tracks are all classic Motorhead, with some of the best solos they've ever recorded. Eddie Clarke may have been a hard act to follow, but Phil Campbell and Wurzel I think sometimes even succeed him in memorable solos. Going To Brazil and Ramones are those somewhat tongue in cheek songs that Motorhead sometimes do, and Love Me Forever contains what I think is the most spine tingling solo I've heard in rock.
Not everything hits the mark though. Make My day and Shut You Down are pretty bland songs, and Angel City I consider downright embarrasing.
The most notable song on the album however is of course the closer 1916, a genuine ballad. Surprisingly moving, it does show a side of Lemmy that the casual listener would never have expected.
One of the most notable albums on the Motorhead catalog.
Motorhead Classic!.......2007-02-01
1916 is one of the best metal and Motorhead
albums of all time! From the opening track
"one to sing the blues" and "I'm so bad baby
I don't care" this is just great rock. Then
it gets better with "no voices in the sky"
and the love ballad "love me forever" but
my favorite track is the title track with
just Lemmy and keyboards "1916" with the
great lyrics Lemmy is known for and here
he shines. Awesome track. The whole album
is great and of course the tribute song
"RAMONES"! I saw them on this tour and
they blew me away and even met Lemmy and
he bought me a drink! Cheers and long live
Motorhead! highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!
"Should Be" classic! .......2007-01-12
This one ranks among Motorhead's finest. No weak tracks and even a little experimentation (Nightmare/Dreamtime, 1916) which Motorhead rarely dwell into. This should be right up there with Ace Of Spades.
Motorhead throws a wild curve.......2006-11-27
While I remain loyal to the Eddie Clarke era of Motorhead, I must admit "1916" is as good as latter period Motorhead ever got.
The production is much better, with plenty of loud guitars and drums. If there is a weak spot, it would be that Wurzel and Co. are pretty generic players. The profiency is there, but not much originality exists.
To make up for that weakness, which has plagued all post-Clarke releases, with the exception of "Another Perfect Day", Lemmy throws in a keyboard heavy "Nighttime", an honest-to-God power ballad ("Love Me Forever"), a Ramones tribute, and most shocking of all, the title track and album closer, "1916".
Lemmy is a well-known war historian, definitely nobody's dummy, and here he laments a particularly horrible battle in WWI where 10,000 soldiers died before noon with neither side gaining an inch of ground. Set to a lonely mournful organ and a snare drum, Lemmy sings in a clear voice and by song's end, it's damn hard not to get a lump in your throat the first couple times you hear it, so surprising is the music, yet so perfect.
For this track and the stretching out of musical boundaries that Lemmy undertakes on "1916", it is an essential for Motorhead fans.
1916 -A Must.......2006-11-11
On 1916 Lemmy and Motorhead show that they can rock a ballad(Love Me Forever),blaze a little punk rock(RAMONES) and everything in between, this album is a must have for all Motorhead fans

Motorheads 1990's bullseye.......2007-07-21
The 1990s saw a real resurgence of Motorhead. After Eddie Clarke quit in 1982, the band seemed to struggle for the rest of the 80s. No release was really "bad", but Another Perfect Day was a largely failed experiment, and Orgasmatron and Rock n Roll were warm ups runs (albeit good ones). With 1991's "1916" album however the band definitely found a sound to equal, even exceed the original Lemmy/ Clarke/ Taylor souund.
1995's Sacrifice is in my opinion the highest point of the post Clarke era. It's probably their most consistent album of the 90s. There are probably some songs on other albums that I like better, but as a whole, I find that this is an album where I seldom skip anything.
It's also notable for being probably Motorheads heaviest. Of course all Motorhead albums are "heavy" but Sacrifice replaces the more normal sharp "attacky" guitar tone with a low frequency rumble guitar tone. It's also a bit darker and gloomier than usual. I consider Motorhead primarily a rock and roll band at heart, with the more serious, Sabbath-esque a lesser aspect. Here though it sounds as if the rock and roll is of less importance although of course it's still there in healthy doses!
A highly recommeded album for Motorhead fans. If you like Sacrifice, 2004's Inferno is in a similar spirit and of similar high quality.
This is Motorhead!.......2005-05-30
Sacrifice (1995) after flirting with mainstream acceptance and alienating both audiences, Lemmy and Co. went back to the backs and made a raw metal album filled with depressing and dark lyrics coupled with heavy doses of
power chords, mean riffs and drums! All the songs are fast and hard hitting. This disc goes through you like a bullet, the first five tracks are one the money (Sacrifice, Sex and Death, War for War, Order). Pure Motorhead, accept no substitutes!
Awesome album, highly recommended.
A classic Motörhead album.......2004-06-14
Everybody always talks about the old Motör-albums. They are great, sure, but the albums that the band hase during the 90's and in the new millennium, are fantastic!
Sacrifice is the last album that has the two-guitar line-up with Würzel. Sacrifice is also a great demonstration from drummer Mickey Dee, whose role in Motörhead has become very important. His style of playing is FAR BETTER than Phil Taylor's (or Pete Gill's), and without him, there couldn't be songs like Sacrifice or Make 'em Blind.
The title track is probably the greatest Motörhead song written for more than a decade. The album is very strong, typical Motörhead, though I don't think that it is quite as good as the previous album, Bastards, which I think is their greatest ever.
Oh no!.......2003-01-31
This album is not representative. It's Motorhead's weakest release up to date. It's just heavy and maybe Lemmy tried to show that he and his buddys are the heaviest, dirtiest and loudest on earth but they aren't. Only for true fans.
as good as ace of spades.......2002-03-28
everyone is always ranting about ace of spades. i love that album but the new motorhead stuff can't be missed. this is pretty much the same classic motorhead sound. its actually a bit heavier but it still has the punk/metal motorhead sound. it appeals to a wide variety of listeners, if you like iron maiden, the ramones, or slayer you would probably like this. it is really good.
