amazing.......2006-12-26
this is seriously one of the greatest albums i've heard. its sad the band broke up, but the one cd they left is definitely a legacy. great album that isn't just a blare, it has melodies, good beats, and zo is an amazing singer. i always look for voice originality, and he definitely is one of a kind.
Steps above the Chevelles, Papa Roaches, and Taproots of yester-year.......2006-04-15
I first saw these guys open for Taproot several years ago, and they easily stole the show that night. Sadly, I'll probably never get to see them perform together again as they're now defunct. However, I am here to say that "Headspace" is worth your time and money if you've got a slightly prog itch that needs scratching.
Odd time signatures, political and social oriented song lyrics, and plenty of guitar trickery via delay/tapping leads all adds up to an impressive debut effort. Sadly, this kind of music doesn't sell tickets anymore, so Pulse Ultra's talent has easily faded into the shadows created by the new psuedo-punk plague now diseasing the music industry.
Fans of acts like "The Receiving End of Sirens" who also were into the nu-metal scene back in '02 will have an appreciation for this album, most likely. Give "Slip in Sin" "Never the Culprit" or "Despot" a listen, then make the call and get this album. If you're paying $4 for it, you're getting a hell of a deal.
This is just ok.......2006-02-23
This CD is just ok there are many better bands out there. I do like several of the songs but this CD does not command my attention at all. Lead singer sounds a little whiny at times.
Totally Underrated.......2005-10-21
Pulse Ultra in a stellar metal band.Tight riffs and time signatures; melodic hooky vocals. OMG, you people have no clue. I gave this band a 5 not only to express a small review of how much I love these guys, but to keep this band from being underrated by bad reviews from people who can't open there damn ears. Don't be deterred by the "Nu-Metal" label given. Shame on you people for being tastless music Nazis. From someone how like this genre of music as well as others, by this album.
PU...it's Pulse Ultra.......2005-06-10
Strengths:handful of decent tracks, talent is present, cd has clean sounding guitars, vocals and bass drums, every now and then it almost gets exciting...for a few seconds
Weaknesses: they don't seem to know how to change their sound at all, almost no creativity, music is boring and not energetic at all, most tracks are long and exhausting to listen to, could have been much better than what it is
I'm surprised who P.U. is categorized with. Noone else thinks they sound a tad bit akin to TOOL? I could be wrong...all I've heard from TOOL in forever is their radio stuff, but this sounds alot more TOOL-ish to me than, oh say, Taproot-ish or Endo-ish.
Hard 'n Heavy bass chords, clearly distinctive guitar rhythms and pounding bass drums, that sound just like TOOL. Vocals have that high pitch sound thats too one keyed and too soft for me. All songs seem to run at virtually one pace..SLOW. The music gets boring.
I can't hear where they've broken any real ground or added anything cool, catchy, or different. I'm just not digging this disc as much as I think I should be.
With a cheap boombox you're likely to miss alot of the low end that makes the music strong and enticing. So without good speakers, the music sounds even more wimpy and even more boring than with a good surround system.

Really unique prog metal.......2005-09-03
I remember a few years ago hearing two songs from this CD a few years ago ("Cycles" and "Falling Down"), and finding them to be quite interesting. Musically, the band is fairly tight and very proficient players. So, I finally decieded to buy the whole album, and discovered the musical goodness extended beyond the two tracks I heard. If you're looking for some progressive metal that is different then other stuff you've probably heard (like Dream Theater, or Symphony X), then I'd say give Opposite Earth a try.
Recommended for fans of hard music that want something new........1999-02-02
I heard of these guys many years ago thru the metal underground, but their style a changed a little since then. If you are into groups like Sanctuary or Nevermore, then you will enjoy this too. It is heavy in parts, but the vocals are more mainstream...no high pitch wailing or low grunts. Lots of good guitar/keyboard tradeoffs for Dream Theater fans, but not nearly as progressive as DT...but a little heavier. I suspect that being their first album, their budget was limited. The sound is clear, but I would be very interested to hear them with a major-label budget, because they have lots of different moods and changes that could be made even better with some more studio polish. The lyrics are very interesting throughout, and I would like to read some interviews where they explain some of the meanings behind the songs. Favorite tracks are Cycles, Primal, and Visuals.
SUMMARY OF OPPOSITE EARTH'S WORLDWIDE PRESS.......1998-09-23
"I've been hearing this group's name starting to pop up all over the place so I was anxious to check this out...this act prove themselves a worthy contender. Fusing in various influences Opposite Earth have a classy sound with a lot of melody and progressive elements but never lose sight of the bite. The vocals of Steven Vincent are a strong point for the band in his clear timbre meanwhile backed by the very tight action of the other four band members. The inclusion of some light keyboard work of Rick Risberg adds a lot of mood and individuality to their songs." ILL LITERATURE (Los Angeles, CA)
Headspace is chops - heavy and very well arranged. The album is richly flavored...Thematically, though Headspace is not morbid, it is very Metallican ... "Always Now," the album opener, sets off with a groovy and heavy riff ... killer rhythms and flailing drum patterns build up the song. Towards the end is a pounding riff that reminds one a lot of the "darkness imprisoning me" riff in Metallica's "One." "Primal" starts with a Primus-like bass riff, opening the gates ... and shredville, then gliding smoothly into a melodic guitar run. "Natural Defense,"... features, cool synthesizers and guitar solos. "Blame" and "Statement," the first singles off the CD, follow suit ... You ought to give this CD a spin ... INK 19 (Georgia/Florida)
Opposite Earth has gained recognition in European and American underground scenes after their two EP's "Omed" and "Visuals". "Headspace", the debut album, firmly states that they go their own path, where groovy psychedelic modern [sounds] almost overshadows their progressive ... roots. It is not common to see bands with inspirations from both progressive genre and good grunge (Soundgarden) or psychedelic rock/metal (Tool). Add trippy Middle Eastern motifs, groovy catchiness and you are about to get the complete picture. The record is very well balanced and gives a pleasant experience. The target audience for such music is very wide... EDGE OF TIME (Denmark, Lithuania & Spain)
If you're a fan of the classically influenced and technically proficient handiwork of the prog genre, then Opposite Earth are one of the best purveyors of the scene. METAL MANIACS (New York, NY)
Opposite Earth hails from Florida. Headspace's press release describes them as "combining a sense of Phrygian Modality and Middle Eastern melodies with chopping power grooves and great melodic sense." I think that about sums it up. The CD wastes no time getting started with "Always Now." "Primal" is a more complex song; not easy to describe, but I like it. "Natural Defense" is a rather progressive, heavy tune. "Blame" is possibly the most melodic of the first 4 songs...and is one of the best songs. "Headspace" is another great heavy progressive tune. "Falling Down" isn't as heavy as the previous songs and is probably my favorite. "Visuals" has a unique melody and is an interesting song. "Dog Dreams" is another cool progressive tune. "Cycles" finishes the CD with some of the best songwriting and playing on the CD. HEADY METAL (Dallas, TX)
After earning lots of accolades ... Opposite Earth has now put out their first full length release [HEADSPACE] ... The band has very strong technical foundations which really shine through in the compositions ... The first thing that you hear is a very modern sound ... with Opposite Earth, though, the vocalist has a much more modern sound in addition to the instrumentation. Having heard the bands [earlier releases], I knew that a lot of subtle complexity was built into the music. I think that the reason that it's subtle is because of the great band chemistry. They play together seamlessly, so it's easy to miss the shifting time signatures and other displays of technicality. You just end up noticing some very cool melodies. This is a talented and cohesive band that fans of modern metal need to check out. PROGRESSIVE LIST
"Visuals" ... was voted "Best New Release" at the Tampa Bay Music Awards. Visuals followed from the well received Omed, which garnered the band favorable local, national and international press. With good label backing this band could be huge. They don't offer the same cliché sound, but carry it to a different level." WILD RAG (Montebello, CA)
Since the release of "OMED" this band has been one of my personal favorites, but "VISUALS," the new release is far beyond all expectations. The song writing is absolutely compact and all of the songs are different. With out a doubt, "Visuals" is one of the five best compositions of the year. The powerful guitars are blended with masterful keyboards that take away the breath of the listener. "Opposite Earth" is an incredible band with a highly original sound. 12 points out of 12 points. ?????.......2006-10-04
Just listening to these sound clips-I can't believe velvet revolver would release such an album. I can appreciate string quartets...but this is absolutely unbelievable. I wonder what would have made them release this? This is NOT rock at all. And four string instruments are no way going to capture the essence of Contraband. I am just in awe that this type of cd exists. No vocals or guitar or drums...Just a string quartet. This is SO not rock n roll....I HOPE the album that they are releasing soon is not going to end up like this...Talk about the downfall of rock n roll.
can't get enough of it.......2005-08-28
If you're like me, and can't get enough of the original album by Velvet Revolver, I think you'll love this. Each song is well done by the four performers, I actually find myself singing to the songs. I have a 5 disc changer at home, and have the original album in the first position followed by this tribute to Velvet Revolver. My ONLY complaint is that I kinda wished that they had someone play a little percussion for each song (ex: the string quartet tribute to guns n roses). But that's entirely okay. It's easy to make the rythem of each song. In fact, there is an awesome slide performed at the beginning of "Headspace" that I didn't know could be done by a violin. There's a treat at the end of the album, a song called .50 calliber, written by the director of the string quartet. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
How AWESOME !!!!!!!.......2005-07-18
This is so freakin' cool! I am a HUGE fan of Velvet Revolver and I play violin in my High School's Ochestra. I would have never thought of a string group even attempting to play Velvet Revolver.
I was searching Velvet Revolver to read some of their reviews for fun, and when I scrolled to the bottom of the screen I saw this CD. I played all of the samples. I was amazed at how well these people played the songs. They sound exactly like Velvet Revolver (except for the obvious fact that they play different instruments)!!!!!!!
I am going to buy this CD as soon as I pay off my debt to my mother for buying Velvet Revolver concert tickets online.
P.S. For anyone that cares, the concert is at Soaring Eagle Casino (Mt. Pleasent,MI) on Aug. 11th.
~YOU SHOULD GO~
WHAT!?.......2005-02-08
you've got to be kidding me. THEY ONLY HAVE ONE ALBUM RELEASED!!!! how do you release a tribute album this early in the frickin' game?

Album Description
Drawing from old/new british underground rock/pop influences, New Invisible Joy creates a long-awaited fresh voice in the psychadelic/alt-pop genre with the release of their first albulm "Pale Blue Day." New Invisible joy conjures a unique mix of subtlety and power, creating an album that sounds like sex feels.
Customer Reviews:
New Invisible Junk -PEWWWWW!!!.......2006-08-16
Man, what a sad attempt to rip off the Verve! If I were assoc. with the Verve, I would sue. Not because the sound, words and melodies are the same, but rather because if you are looking for the Verve sound, and New Invisible Junk does appear to try to cultivate the neo-psychedelic Verve image, and you stumble on New Invisible Junk, you will not only be sadly underjoyed but you will have to endure endless octipilian vocal screaches, that in no way come close to Ashcroft's bittersweet sonic aptitude.
My advice to Schitsler; reign it in man. Find some direction and your own style and quit your futile attempts to replicate a master's style.
The drugs aren't working anymore!
Stunning piece of artistry........2006-05-18
Dreamily ethereal to powerful with soaring studio effects the music seems to surround you from every direction. The subsequent releases are also good but they do not reach the caliber of this debut. There is not a single weak song here.
Greatness!.......2002-12-23
I Love this cd. Its really great. I tell all my friends about it all the time. Everyone Needs to go out n buy every NiJ cd thats out!!
NIJ-Pale Blue Day.......2002-12-04
Brit-sounding pop? No way...! The music tries to rip off the Verve, but doesn't come close. The vocals are over the place. Let's see how many vocal ranges I can do....please. Give it up. This cd [stinks] and I own it, and have seen them live. Don't buy this cd.
A Great Debut.......2001-07-01
When I first heard "She Goes On" on a local radio station, I called them immediately to find out what it was. The song blew me away. It sounded like "Bends"-era Radiohead with Tim Finn on lead vocals. It was a huge surprise to me to find out it was a local (Pittsburgh) band, New Invisible Joy. Needless to say, I went out and bought it a day or two later, and was not disappointed, even though the rest of the album is mostly heavier stuff than the tune I heard. It's moody and melodic, like the Verve in their harder moments. The opening track, "New Orleans," is a killer, and the aforementioned "She Goes On" is simply staggering. If there were any justice, it would be a monster hit, maybe not here, but definitely in the UK. The Brits would love it. To me, these two tracks alone are worth the price of the album. But the nice thing is, the rest is good too.
Playing and production are very good throughout, but the highlight of this band has to be singer John Schisler. The guy is amazing -- one of the best rock voices I've ever heard (and I've been listening to this stuff for 25 years). And what's stunning is the fact that this CD, good as it is, doesn't exhibit Schisler's talent as well as the band's live show does. He does some vocal things in concert that will simply drop your jaw.
But this is not to say that the rest of the band are in any way slouches. NIJ isn't just a great voice with an okay backup band. Brian Colletti (drums) and Evan Handyside (bass) are as good a rhythm section as is anyone out there, and guitarist Mike Gaydos is an inventive, inspired, and very powerful player. NIJ is a great band all the way around.
Great heavy Brit-sounding pop from Pittsburgh! Who'd have thought it? And for heaven's sake, if you get the chance to see them live, don't pass it up.
