Bitchin' live concert.......2006-06-28
One of the premiere Euro metal acts 2000-2005 Edguy present their first live album. With their trajectory in place and their name kept in the music press with strategically released EP's this was no stopgap release as their next full length album was alredy in the pipeline.
So to the album... Edguy have produced a 2cd set covering their strongest stuff which is fairly obvious - I mean you would, wouldn't you? Fans of Tears of a Mandrake and Theatre of Salvation should be very happy with this as much of it is drawn from these releases. There is also Avantasia from Tobias' solo project - which shows how much Edguy is his baby.
The sound is clear and having seen the band on this tour and that of the Hellfire Club album, they really do sound this good live. The crowd noise is flitered in and out at times but you get that with just about every live release that's not a bootleg. And the interaction with the crowd by Tobias shows he's really gotten his raps down pat.
This album is really for fans since live albums don't usually serve as great intros to bands - newcomers may prefer to choose Hall of Flames instead of this release. But for fans of this German band this is a very worthwhile use of you cash. And the booklet has heaps of cool photos and lyrics for the whole set list which is a nice touch from an (almost) bygone era.
Nothing wrong with BDTO.......2004-03-01
Picked this up the other day, and y'know, I'm fully satisfied with it! Everyone knows Edguy is a great live act, and this totally brings home that experience. I'd like to know what got into that guy up there... "Oh no, it's like Iron Maiden's live album! Why didn't they include fewer pictures? It should of only been one disc, so it wasn't so much like Maiden's!" Who the hell gets upset for getting extra material? Really now... and it even comes with a live video from Prog Power on the second disc! Score!
Folks, this isn't just a regurgitation of past Edguy material. It's funny, it's recorded very well, and makes you feel like your right there! The only possible complaint is that most of the material is from Mandrake and Vain Glory Opera... would of liked to hear more from Savage Poetry and Theatre of Salvation, but maybe it's just me. Cheers!
