From a band worthy of worship by Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Papa Roach fans, (hed)'s second album is a dozen-song collection that's personal, versatile, and eminently listenable. Much of Broke's dark yet surprisingly melodic and memorable charm lies in the portentous and chaotic musical climate the band creates. The well-crafted tunes explore a gamut of styles within the loosely defined hip-hop/metal genre, moving from the primal groove of "Killing Time" to the lively, Van Halen-inspired "Feel Good." The sextet includes a turntablist in DJ Product c. 1969, plus two guitarists, allowing the lineup to create a massive sound rife with subtle textures. From the psychotic vocals of "Pac Bell" to the epic rock chorus and hip-hop verses of "Bartender," (hed) seamlessly weave close-to-the-bone angst with commensurate musicality. This on-the-rise Orange Country band have definitely delivered the goods with this one. --Katherine Turman
Customer Reviews:
I can feel my spirit leaving.......2006-08-04
If ever there was such a thing as a perfect union between hard rock and rap, (hed) PE surely discovered the perfect balance.
I actually found out about (hed) PE from the song Feel Good with Serj of SOAD and Morgan Lander of Kittie. I loved Serj and Morgan's parts but wasn't entirely sure about Jahred's. The rapping eventually grew on me so I decided to pick up Broke purely on a hunch. Turns out that I really do enjoy this CD, much to my surprise.
If the topic of sex is taboo for you, definitely look elsewhere, (hed) PE doesn't shy away from that topic. Other than that, if you like rock beats and you like rap, Broke just might be exactly what you're looking for. For the majority of this CD it really is just rapping, but Pac Bell is a little more than that. A lot of the time the songs on here are just fun, but Pac Bell seems, I don't know, real. The intensity in Jahred's voice is incredible towards the end of the track. Other than that, Bartender is a great song with excellent verses and an extremely memorable chorus. Jesus (Of Nazareth) has some pretty honest lyrics and yet another great chorus. The Meadow is a nice closing track, with almost a Sublime-esque quality. Not the best song, but it seems a fitting end.
My favorite songs are Killing Time, Feel Good, Bartender, Pac Bell, and Jesus (Of Nazareth). Broke isn't a groundbreaking CD, just a solid listen. However, if you're a band wanting to infuse both rock and rap together and avoid being completely cliche, you might want to listen to a few (hed) PE CDs. Each song has a solid beat and, the majority of the time, good rapping. A worthy addition for any music library.
Best Hed P.E. CD.......2006-05-04
The title says it all. Even though I like all their cds they have yet to top this one and that will be hard to do. These guys know how to make good music and they prove it with this cd.
If it ain't BROKE then don't buy it!.......2006-03-09
Broke is by far the best CD ever put out by (hed)PE...from 'KILLING TIME' to 'THE MEADOW' this CD is worth every second. 'KILLING TIME' opens with a great song to get you into the CD...not the best song on the CD but one of the most 'fan-friendly' songs showing the rap and rock side of the CD. Great track. 'WAITING TO DIE' is one of my favorite tracks ever done by (hed)PE...the screaming is great. As a huge fan of Kittie and System of a Down, the next track 'FEEL GOOD' is just a blessing. The verse is great, I just love the monotone rapping done 'I'm ready n****, slice like a macheti n****'. Morgan is awsome, great screaming voice, but it's Serj's bridge that makes this song kick@$$! 'BARTENDER' was the first single. It's decent, reminds me of a Sublime song...not bad. 'I GOT YOU' and 'BOOM' are kicking songs, especially 'BOOM' it's just so freaking awsome and in your face "how you like that!" The start of 'I GOT YOU' reminds me of a KoRn song, the way he sings is like Jonothan Davis. 'SWANDIVE' is one of my favorite songs here, different, more mellow, melodic and slower paced with piano and a great verse...the chorus is heavier, but it's the verse that I really like. 'THE MEADOW' is a great closer, much like 'SWANDIVE' great great way to go out. I just wish every (hed)PE CD would be this good.
This is a really good CD!.......2005-11-07
This CD has alot of really good songs on it, like Bartender which was played on the radio alot a few years ago, and The Meadow which is another awesome song. I also really liked Pac Bell. This is one of those CD's that you can listen to over and over because all of the songs are really good. You should get it.
A flash of brilliance.......2005-10-12
Oh yes - this is the good stuff! A much more focused effort compared to their debut with some great arrangements, terrific sounds, excellent vocals and unique beats - what else could a white, middle-class, self-confessed metal-head want?! (hed) really came into their own with this album. What I particularly like are the computerised beats and sudden flourishes of human drumming over the top - really creative and, if I can get away with saying this, showing something akin to what Peter Gabriel did live with Manu Katche on the Secret World Tour. The two songs on Broke I'm referring to here are `Pac Bell' and `Jesus (of Nazareth)'. Everyone goes on about the song `Bartender', but I don't rate it as high as some other stuff on here. I can't really fault any of the tunes on `Broke' but I do particularly like `Killing Time', `Boom', `Swan Dive', `Stevie' and `Jesus'. The thing I've learned most to admire about this band is Mawk's sparse basslines. Most players would lace these songs with monstrous riffs, but his playing shows some damn fine maturity. I'd recommend this album to anyone because it's not overly obtuse, and it showcases a band that is top of their tree. To be honest, I don't think much else compares in this genre.

Rage against...+Sublime+Incubus+Too Short= HED P.E.......2006-03-06
This is a hot release, experimental sampling+Hip-Hop+Reggae Dub+Punk Thrash/Metal= This album, you see (Hed)can not be categorized in one particular section, they're a melting pot of styles...Anyways this album is bangin', great breakdowns, dj scratches, rhymes, growls whatever...Pick this up, best of all their releases, their 2nd release "Broke" was good as well, but after that their albums went downhill..PEACE
Funky, fresh, and metallic -- serve it up raw!.......2005-10-12
When (hed) released their debut LP it was right at the height of the "Nu-Metal" craze, largely propagated by Korn, but it still stands out head and shoulders above what is mostly music made by angry, self-absorbed wannabes. I guess the closest group to them are early-era Incubus, although (hed) are probably a little more aggressive. Despite the band knowing exactly how to land a heavy groove, the thing that really sets them apart is the astonishing charisma and vocal talent of their dynamic lead singer, Jahred; a truly versatile frontman mixing up speedy raps, guttural growling, and melodic singing. All the tunes have that distinctive (hed) sound (Korn-esque chord voicings, clean-ish detuned riffs) which remains across all their albums and is testament to their craft. Stand out songs include `P.O.S.', `Serpent Boy', `Darky', and `IFO'. If there's a problem with the album it's that some songs drag and occasionally sound a bit `cut & paste'. But it has a pretty good raw sound and sometimes that unfocused air lends itself for the better; you get the impression these are young boisterous chaps and must be a hoot to watch live! (Which they are.) In summary, a really tight-knit unit offering something unique, energetic and attitude-soaked. Recommended!
Arrived safely and played fine.......2005-09-02
The CD was shipped a little slower that the others I had ordered, but since this is a individual selling this and not a buisness I can understand. The product was as promised and played flawlessly. Thanks!
Great!.......2004-04-27
The first full-length album from 6-piece rap-metal band (hed) p.e. is a great effort. Though what they bring to the table is nothing new, what they do, they do very well. Frontman M.C.U.D. is a notch above all the other nu-metal frontman with his energy, slick rapping, vocals and lyrics that explore planetary evolution, religion, the paranormal, sex, and racism while still being quite amusing. Drummer B.C. is an excellent drummer that doesn't rely on the DJ to make all the beats for him (not on this album, anyway), while DJ product provides some cool scratches and samples throughout. Bassist Mawk makes some funky rhythms in back and guitarist duo Wessyle and Chizad provide the heaviness this album needs and work best together here. This CD contains elements of Hip-Hop, metal, punk, reggae, and even some tribal. If you're not completely sick of rap-metal then this is some good stuff that should keep you banging your head for a while.
Ultimately the best ever put out by (hed).......2003-04-11
When it came out it was so unique and just mind blowing. I still listen to it often. It is probably my most favorite cd of all. If I had to leave all but one behind, this would be the keeper. Although more recent releases from them have disappointed me tremendously. If only they would have stuck with whats on this cd and not break out into "new" direction. Hate to say it but its almost as if they are selling out to a more pop crowd now. I wish they'd stick with the hardcore G punk. This is a must own revolutionary to the industry cd.

Product Description
The Blue Planet is a collection of pieces that present a common thread of expression using lyrical songs as well as instrumentals. This expression of David's ability to create a mood or image with his words and music is another interesting extension of the over-used category for "folk" and "acoustic". Listening to this work you will again be able to travel both backwards and forwards through the history of popular music.

Good for music fans.......2001-10-01
Anyone who loves classical music and jazz, will truly love this album. Marsalis is wonderful in his numbers, and Sarah Chang is beyond outstanding!! She plays Paganini like she really means it.
Placido Domingo is very good in his numbers. He sings with great might. But if you want more magic, get the videotape. You will see the whole effect, which is better then hearing it.
A must for a music fan. Enjoy!!

Ahhh Planet E.......2000-02-11
I`ve heard a good few artists off of Planet E and Recloose is certainly no exception from this label`s smokin` roster. I`ve read here on Amazon and elswhere that Recloose`s previous E.P, which I`ve yet to hear but will certainly aquire after listening to this one, was "noodly" and "abstract". Well listening to Spelunking I def. get the impresion that he`s lightened up a bit not to say that this release would be anything less. This guy can certainly poke you in alot of places over the course of one tune. That to me makes for the best music. I could def. get down to "Soul Clap" and "Get There Tonight" in a sweaty room somewhere and kickback in my Lazy Boy and enjoy yet another listen in my lonesome. Similar to other Planet E artists Recloose makes music for your body and mind not just your feet though the bottom end sound is always enough to shake yer rump.

Album Description
David Rakowski's growing catalog of Études for piano has inspired performances and recordings by leading pianists on both sides of the Atlantic. Volume One of Amy Dissanayake's Rakowski Études series (BRIDGE 9121) drew raves for both Rakowski's quirky and witty music and Dissanayake's bold virtuoso pianism.

Customer Reviews:
I have fallen in love.......2001-04-05
WOW, I was looking for a mood piece and found not only one piece by a Super Collection. It was to be a gift but by just listening I as sure it will keep away the stormy times in the future. Thanks for blessing the world with this wonderful collection.
It's unbelievably beautiful........1999-05-01
