Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Audio-biography +interviews and a mini-poster

One of the heaviest and most radical bands to emerge in the last decade, Tool are also one of the most enigmatic. Since their formation in Los Angeles in 1991, Tool's dense, rhythmic music, claustrophobic riffing and unconventional, esoteric lyrics have won them a large and loyal fanbase the world over. 'Maximum Tool' now gives the complete and unauthorised biography of the band from their earliest days to multi-platinum success as well as encompassing the story behind singer Maynard Keenan's hugely successful side-project, A Perfect Circle. A perfect opportunity to discover the tale behind a band that has changed the contemporary rock scene beyond recognition. Out of the darkness, into the light; this is Tool.

3 out of 5 stars Not a review.......2005-12-17

To the writer of the review above,
Eulogy is not about Kurt Cobain and is most certainly not about Jesus, although that may be what the band wants casual listeners to think. In fact, the song is most probably about the band's most loved but deceased comedian, Bill Hicks. Please see this document for some of the most insightful interpretations of the songs that I have seen on the net:
http://www.vanillacircus.net/book/tool_book.pdf
The only thing I notice that he has wrong is the interpretation of "Part of Me," which is clearly about masturbation. About the item above, I have a hard time trusting any documentary about Tool when it's not even authorized by the band.

4 out of 5 stars British but not bad..........2005-10-14

I admit to feeling some anxiety to buying this bio. cd after the disaster of a dvd called Toology attempted to ruin my life. Both bio's are unauthorized by the band. I like so many other fans are fascinated with the band and are a seeker of truth. Maximum Tool carried no let down. It was produced in the UK. There is a mini poster and the insert has a few good photos of the band. The cd is broken into tracks which seperate the topics discussed. Each track starts off with a small segment of an interview with a band member. In between each track is about 10 seconds of rock instrumental(not TOOL).The group who compiled the information no doubt had a tough time finding it and filtering out the hearsay. There is some speculation as to the interpretation of tracks. None are without merit however. For example it is suggested that Eulogy was about a "rock-martyr, possibly Kurt Cobain". I found that interesting since it appears to be "obvious" that it is in fact about Jesus. After pondering this, I concluded that this track like so many others could carry double meanings. Afterall, looking deaper is a reoccuring theme throughout TOOL's albums. There is some info. on A Perfect Circle as well. There was a discrepency at the end of the disc with a lyric from Schism being attributed to Parabola, but other than that I felt rather edified from the whole experience.

Waste of money...I can't believe i bought this.

1 out of 5 stars Insult to TOOL.......2003-01-14

These bands have done nothing interesting with what were originally awesome songs. It's a waste of money for any TOOL fan who truly appreciates the original songs.

    1 out of 5 stars mostly worthless.......2002-10-16

First, don't expect any music on this album; if you could call this an album.
Second, if you want information about tool, go find the tool FAQ.
This is a watered down spoken-word history of tool. If you like cheesy intro bass riffs and some british chick telling you how wonderful tool is, with a few -less than 20 seconds, badly recorded comments from band members; then buy this.

5 out of 5 stars Best unauthorized biography of TOOL yet........2001-07-19

Of all of the unauthorized biography discs or videos I have bought about TOOL, this is by far the best. It is about an hour long, and consentrates mainly on the band, not fan's opinions, as lesser biographies do. The narrator Nancy McClean goes into great detail on the band members' backgrounds, and how they formed TOOL, but most of the disc analyzee TOOL's use of imagery in their songs and videos. Each redord is examined in detail, by someone that obviously understands what the band is about. It is packaged in an attractive jewel case, with original art and a cardboard slipcase. There are many clips interviews with the members, but no original music (because it is unauthorized). If haven't already, do NOT get the TOOLOGY unauthorized biography video, this disc is much, much better.

    Track listing: 1. Intro/the weight 2. Fermentation 3. Crystalisation 4. First Fruits 5. Further out 6. Fractured whole 7. Whole 8. Splinters 9. A gathering in 10. Forming anew

It is reasonably appearant which tracks are about the band's forming, conflicts, the replacement of Paul D'mour with Justin Chancellor, and so on.

    Happy Trails.
