Customer Reviews:
Stunning 24-Bit Digitally Remastered Sound! .......2006-10-17
This 2005 release from EMI Australia is simply one of the best compilation sets I own of any kind. Despite the annoying copy control technology (which I'll get to shortly) this is an excellent 5-CD collection of 80's hits, focusing on a selection of well-known worldwide hits, some rarities, and Australian hits. Unlike most 80's collections this one branches out and includes hits that are often overlooked.
Best of all is the sound! Considering the list price and number of tracks I wasn't expecting much in terms of the sound quality. I actually took a risk buying this collection, fearing not only the copy control technology but also the lack of good sound quality. The latter does not disappoint! Several of these recordings I'm hearing digitally remastered and in excellent sound for the very first time! Here are a few fine examples:
Cutting Crew's "(I Just) Died In Your Arms" is a track that's always sounded limited in it's sound quality on any other disc I've heard it featured. Not here! Finally, we hear the punch and kick that the track was originally intended to have when recorded in the studio way back in '86! It has never sounded better! Pat Benatar's "Love Is A Battlefield" has only sounded remastered in it's 7" edit, which is available on a number of collections. Here, however, we get the full length album version in digitally remastered sound! Again, this is the first time I've heard the track sound this good in it's full version. Naked Eyes' "Always Something There To Remind Me" is present in it's more rare video version (with the alternate intro) and in it's best audio yet. The real treat here, however, is Martha Davis' solo single, "Don't Tell Me The Time" -- a #8 Australian hit in 1987. This rare single -- rare, meaning her solo debut album, which features the track, is now out of print -- is presented for the first time in remastered sound quality. This is the only release, as far as I know, that is in print and features her hit single. It's also my first time hearing it! The Vapors hit #1 in many countries in 1980 with "Turning Japanese". Would you believe that this hit was 25 years old when this release went to print? No way! Listen to those punchy, heavy drums! And those guitars! Woah! This has NEVER sounded better! Let's take "Under The Milky Way" by The Church. While previous releases from Rhino have presented the song in excellent remastered sound I must say that it has never sounded more crisp, heavy, and bright than it does on this release.
There are only a handful of examples. I could go on, but I think the point has been made. A big thumbs up to EMI Australia for putting out this release with care for the sound. Thank you! It amazes me that the label didn't wish to advertise the sound anywhere on this box set. These recordings, although not listed as such, have been remastered using at least 24-bit digital technology. Just do comparisons and one will understand my ranting about this release!
Now on to the negative point. A big thumbs down to the copy control technology used by EMI. If you were hoping to copy these tracks to your iPod or MP3 player, think again -- that is, do some Web searching on how to rip these tracks because it can be done. It's tricky and may take some time to figure out. These discs should play on your computer. When you get a message asking to update some files to your computer simply click "cancel" and open Windows Media Player (or a similar program) to play the discs. The only problem is the glitches, clicks, and pops that result from the copy control when playing a disc. It's annoying to listen to these beautifully remastered songs and listen to annoying clicks and pops every few minutes. The CDs, nonetheless, should play just fine in any CD player. The issue is trying to play the CDs on your computer.
5+ stars for the sound quality, tracklisting, and rarities. 1 star for the copy control technology. Overall, however, given the price and audio I cannot rate this any lower than 4 stars. It may take a little work copying these tracks for your own personal use, but it can be done. It's inconvenient, but the sound by far makes up for it!
Be sure to pick up 'More Complete Eighties' from EMI Australia as well. It's just as solid as this release. Now how about a 3rd volume set of 80's hits, EMI? 'Complete Eighties 3' maybe? (That is, without the copy protection!) I'll buy it regardless.
Rare and amazing!!.......2005-07-27
I am a HUGE eighties freak and have been listening and collecting eighties music since, well, THE EIGHTIES! I own the best collection albums out there and "Complete Eighties" is one of the top ones. This album has songs that I have been searching for since forever! They are very hard to come by (for whatever reason) and are on this album (Never Ending Story, Some like It Hot, Tarzan Boy, C'est La Vie, We Close Our Eyes, etc.) I feel this album may just complete my eighties collection once and for all. If you are a casual eighties fan, don't expect too many popular and normal eighties songs that are found on most eighties collection sets. This collection deals with songs that most people don't remember or won't recognize (except for us eighties fanatics).

Album Description
Sister Machine Gun's seventh full-length album is a tour-de-force of electronic rock that recalls the industrial sound of the late eighties and early nineties. Heavy beats, distorted guitars and pounding synth lines drag your favorite sounds, kicking and screaming into the future!
Customer Reviews:
Groovy.......2004-10-04
Sister Machine Gun has effectively carved out a cozy niche for itself and their latest release Influence does nothing but carry on the winning account. Some of the sound design seems a bit out of date but that scarcely deters from the fact that Chris Randall is one of the best songwriters in the Industrial Hard Rock genre. Randall's hooks and melodies are seldom matched in the field while his panache for powerful downbeats and dance grooves should never be over-looked either. Sister Machine Gun feeds the fire.

Pretty good.......2004-04-29
i'll make this short.. Sister machine gun attempts to recreate that 90's industrial feel and for the most part they succeed. although there is a couple tracks that bore me.. for the most part this is as good as it gets aside from those original songs back in the day. highly reccomended if you're an industrial fan.
Music that's food for your ears!.......2004-01-19
Sister Machine Gun has been one of those bands that never disappoint, whether you see them live, or pick up their cd.
This newest CD from the Chicago band has all the elements of their roots, and aims to please the listener, and I am more than pleased with the results.
I have watched this group expand their horizons to grab new fans and also to grab your attention the second the first song off this cd starts, "To Hell With You" all the way through to the last one, "The Antagonizer". It's all non-stop. I find it difficult to listen to this without getting my body into the groove, can you?
From singer and musician, Chris Randall's sensual voice , to Miguel Turanzas, wow, now THIS is SMG. This cd will definitely make you want more.
You're always welcomed at http://www.sistermachinegun.com. Don't be shy, stop by sometime.
Buy this album.......2003-12-25
Do yourself a favor and pick up this CD. Sister Machine Gun goes back to it's roots on Influence and the results are a CD that sounds like Wax Trax era industrial updated for the new millennium.
Old School Meets New.......2003-12-24
It's SMG's most danceable release since Transient 5.2 - it has everything I ever loved about electro-industrial, irradiated with enough creativity to keep it from ever getting stale. Chris Randall and Miguel Turanzas have done the seemingly impossible - they combined everything the band has ever been into one package. It has taken my CD player hostage, and I couldn't be happier.

Customer Reviews:
Think you've heard it all from the '80s? Think Again..........2005-12-05
...At least, I had to think again after buying this CD. I had never heard "Lucky Number" by Lene Lovich, which according to the liner notes was a European dance floor staple in the '80s. Wonderful bouncearound head-bobbing happy dancey NWave. Ditto (though not as bouncy) for Romeo Void's "Never Say Never," with its unforgettable spoken (not sung) line from the female vocalist "I might like you better if we sslllept together." Finally, near the bottom of the playlist is a brilliant NW cover of "Money" (I remember this track, by Barrett Strong according to the liner notes, from the Beatles' cover of it on "The Beatles Second Album"). The Flying Lizards put a whole new twist on this ancient track--and that is hard to do with something this old and so multi-covered over the years. It would be hard to find three tracks that better capture the essence of New Wave.
Those were the newbies for me. But "Sedated" has some more great obscurities too--Berlin's "Sex (I'm A...)" (a verrry racy song for the early 80s, too racy for air time in fact), "Saved by Zero" by The Fixx (vs. their better known, commonly included, "One Thing Leads to Another"), and ABC's "Poison Arrow"--from their unbelievably outstanding first (1982) album, "The Lexicon of Love." So often the relatively obscure songs on collections like these are throwaways, but someone here has done a great job picking-over the candidates and selecting the obscure winners. Most of the rest of the tracks are mega-hits, so it is a great combo of the well-known and the should-be-well-known.
This is one of the best compilations for NW, and fidelity of the CD is very good too. Liner notes are extensive and interesting, and show the TLC someone put into this CD. Buy and enjoy!
Great 80's compilation.......2005-03-26
I've been collecting the Rhino New Wave Hits series, which is great, but after stumbling across the Sedated series I have to say it's superior. There are fewer CDs in the Sedated series so the selections on each CD are a bit more focussed. This first volume has a great representation of the best of the era - you get the fun lite stuff like Mexican Radio and the Go-Gos, along with more artsy cuts such as Romeo Void and The Smithereens. Classics like the Ramones I Wanna be Sedated and People who Died. Really just a very enjoyable CD to listen to again and again. I look forward to adding more of this series to my collection.
the best 80's compilation yet.......1998-11-24
The Sedated in the 80's series truly captures the spirit of the era for me. It sends me back to the nights at CBGB's or Max's Kansas City in New York when I intentionally sat in front of the speakers so I could feel my internal organs shake (by the way...it didn't damage my hearing...your mother was wrong!).
