In the short time since they grouped together a few years ago to form their sensationally successful trio, the Irish Tenors have already put out an impressive array of recordings and DVDs, including some bona fide gooseflesh-inducing live concert performances. So, if you still have the enviable pleasure of discovering these amazing vocalists--or want to turn a friend on to their musical charms--this compilation CD will do the trick nicely. It brings together such classics as "Danny Boy," "Toora Loora Looral," "Last Rose of Summer," and "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" (featuring John McDermott)--all rendered with the kind of passionate, heartfelt, and harmonious crooning that is their signature style, whether they're singing as an ensemble or as highlighted soloists. And even if you have the complete Irish Tenors, this anthology includes several numbers not found on their previously released CDs. Hard to think of a sweeter treat for a fan of singing too good to ever go out of fashion. --Sarah Chin

4 out of 5 stars Irish at it's best........2007-05-07

This album is really the number two album from this trio. It is very good and well worth the investment. The five star album by The Irish Tenors would have to be Heritage. Both albums rate high in my book.

5 out of 5 stars Irish Magic.......2006-08-21

This is my first CD of the Irish Tenors. And what a joy! I played it as soon as it arrived. I like the blend of their voices, the passion and enthusiasm they bring to this CD. What I find is a real treat is the words to all the songs are in the booklet.I love this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Just got your Kleenex.......2005-12-25

I suggest a box of Kleenex for each person in the room when you play this CD or VHS recording. Mom won't let me play it anymore because she...well, you know what I mean.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!.......2005-12-12

When it's cold and frightful here, I play The BOYZ!

So wonderful. So much fun.

Up here in backwash Maine, there ain't much, believe me. But these guys are great. Sincere, care about what they're doing, true artists.

Ah, to go to Ireland again. Well, not unless the price of natural gas recedes!

5 out of 5 stars The Very Best of the Irish Tenors is just that!.......2005-01-22

This recording is wonderful. Ronan's "last Rose of summer" is unique, the Percy French medley shows all three in great voice, Finbar's Maggie is wonderful and the laurels have to go to Anthony for his magnificent rendition of "She moved through the fair", wow!!!!

Well worth buying.

There's a lot to be said for continuity and high concept, and Coheed and Cambria have invented an elaborate geeky parallel sci-fi world that spread over four CDs. If you follow the story line, it unfolds like some punk Harry Potter series; equally ambitious and didactic and almost as tightly written as the Moody Blues' "Days of Future Passed." You can also listen to each of the albums without a thought about the story and marvel at the musicianship, the intricately layered guitars, Claudio Sanchez's overwrought and rather pinched vocals and the sheer imagination displayed by these four musicians whose idiosyncratic emo seamlessly flows into prog rock. Epic, surreal, bigger than life, and utterly unlike anything you've heard in decades--even Geddy Lee expounding on free will. -- Jaan Uhelszki

2 out of 5 stars The 'musically stunted mans Dream Theater'!.......2007-07-26

As a prog and metal rock fan for over 30 years, I tried real hard to like this enigmatic release, but in my opinion it falls short on many levels. The vocalist is horrendous. He has been compared to Geddy Lee by many, but Geddy's voice has a LOT more soul, timbre, and smoothness. Comparisons to Dream Theater have also been made as well, but C&C's chord progressions and guitar work sound purposeless and disjointed, and DO have elements of the lousy 'Emo rock' genre. The fact that many here bring this up must mean many of us hear it. I applaud bands that try to 'push or break the musical envelope', but unfortunately, C&C's sound comes across as confused with no real musical direction. You can play with fervor and conviction, as these guys do, BUT if the music sounds forced and boring, there's nothing you can do to 'connect' with some listeners. Not my cup of tea.

5 out of 5 stars If Lord of the Rings was put in a blender with Led Zeplin..........2007-07-17

I wasn't excpepting much from this album before purchasing. I heard the Suffering which I thought was catchy, but I thought there was no way the album could be that good the whole way threw. I was wrong. The music ranges from rythmic harder rock (Welcome Home, and some of the later songs on the album) to really out there fast beats (Once upon your dead body, the Suffering).

Were this album really succeds is in it's great stroyline. The artwork of the album as well as the music relays a sense of epic-ness. You truly will not understand the depth of this Cd until you've heard it first-hand. Buy this CD I could not have been more pleased. In the great words of Apollo I and II, tonight the night on Burning Star IV...

You also may want to check out the Special Edition of the album. The Special Edition comes with a bonus DVD.

5 out of 5 stars a modern experience I'll never forget.......2007-07-09

Luis Mejia (son) - I have to admit that I am one of those guys who love proffesional and complex music but I certainly lost my hope since mid 90's, specially in prog and good rock, and stayed in the era of the 70's, a magical era wich I didn't live. I never met the band 'till I heard the genre "new prog" and Coheed And Cambria was on the main charts, I also recognized the band because my cousin told me about it so I decided to give them a try, and this was the first album I bought seen the good critics and sales. Low in hopes, even when I heard the first track I was surprised they applied that kind of instruments in a classical way. Even more than a year that I've heard this album from the first track to the last one I'm still shocked of how excellent, delicate and professional it is!

I characterize this album more as heavy metal or progressive metal, even a litle bit of alt rock, but it stays a little apart from prog, even when it has certain characteristics of the genre.

The composition of each track is simple superb, delicate, heavy and well thought. Lisetn well, EVERY track is incredible and outstanding, one of the few album you don't have to skip any track; Welcome Home, Ten Speed (Of God Blood And Burial), the four fragments of The Willing Well (specially part 4), The Suffering and Wake Up are extremelly potent tracks that show every characteristic of the album, including soft ballads (until half of the album I never imagined a soft track), rythmical and confortable tracks like The Suffering, heavy, potential tracks with escapist sounds like Welcome Home and Ten Speed, the most likely prog songs like the fragments of The Willnig Well, and so on, each track is different from the other one. The moods of the CD are quite difficult to identify; I quite agree with those reviewers who characterize this album mainly EMO, and though it has many characteristics of EMO (wich I still do not think is a defined or even real genre) it also assimilates alt rock, prog, heavy metal, and so on; within the moods the songs are very different among each other but I can say their moods are agressive, hard, soft, constantly changing, experimental and a certain level of complexity.

Among the artists the guitar of Travis Stever is the best feature in the album, he's such a talented guitarrist, Claudio Sanchez vocals are very melodic and nice to hear but it isn't a voice such talented and trained but stunning as well, Josh Eppard drums are one of those instruments that in every song you listen to them carefully, and Michael Todd bass can be heard, you don't know how it bothers me not to be able to hear a bass in a song, but he makes it sound incredible.

Viewed as a concept album, its a little weird and even a little dumb as a concept album, I trully know that they are trying to make five albums about Teh Amory Wars but it's obvious that Coheed And Cambria would have a lot more credit and much better critics if it weren't for this detail.

In conclussion this band demonstrate among a world full of pitiful new music how still it can be excellent compositions written, if they only take their time, any musician can bring back the flame of music, good music, and the CD is a masterpiece, my sincere recommendations to everyone who appreciates good music.

5 out of 5 stars Alan Dean Foster Meets Rush!.......2007-05-25

As my title states, Coheed & Cambria remind me of a really good sci/fi book set to music. Like a cross between Star Wars and Dream Theatre. I got IKSOSE first and still like that album better, I think simply because it is easier to follow the storyline. This album is much more musically complex though. It took me a long time to get used to the Claudio's voice because I a fan of Doom Metal not pop (not that they are a pop band), so it actually was the storyline that got me so interested. If you like concept albums, this is like trying to solve a really awesome riddle. I love the intro to Good Apollo with the violin!

5 out of 5 stars Great Album.......2007-05-09

Yes C&C is an acquired taste, everything written in other reviews for all the albums pretty much spells out what people like about them. They are just what the current scene lacks, and bring back melodic, powerful, catchy metal in spades.....call it emo(the stupidest label ever coined bar none) or any other dumb term you want.....these guys simply rock.
The reviewer below is more interested in the album art, if thats your concern stick with cereal boxes or bazooka joe wrappers, this is rock n' roll. He also claims "sub par musicianship", which is an amazingly naive statement by someone who must know little about that which they speak. Grab a guitar and write tunes anywhere near this level. Sub par my a**. These guys are at the top of their game.

5 out of 5 stars GORGEOUS!.......2007-06-13

I wish this CD had been around when I was planning my wedding as it would have been great for helping the bride to select music! Still, it's wonderful to listen to now.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful intro To MEHDl ..........2006-06-08

I've always enjoyed Great Wedding music and this album is no exception, but while reading some of the customer recommendations posted on this site I discovered a group by the name of MEHDl (pronounced medie). After an online search I found their site (S00THINGMUSIC,C0M) and listened to the samples...
I was instantly blown away by the quality of this music and so I gave it a try and now that I have listened to these CDs several times I really must say that although I'm still a Tomaso Albinoni fan of, I find MEHDl to be a great addition to this CD. I had them both in my multi-disc CD player during the wedding and love the way they compliment each other. I highly recommend that you give this artist a try or atleast just go listen to the samples, I have a feeling you'll be glad you did.

5 out of 5 stars great.......2006-02-19

Highly recommended. Even has suggestions for pre-ceremony, processional, ceremony, and recessional inside. 2 different versions of Midsummer Night's Dream march included - one with trumpet and organ and one with a full orchestra. Lots of great selections, well recorded.

5 out of 5 stars The Complete Wedding Album.......2005-08-05

This album has a lot of great wedding music. It had all of the songs I was looking for. There also is great background music for the ceremony. Glad I purchased it

4 out of 5 stars Almost the compete wedding album.......2004-05-07

I used this cd to help me plan which songs I wanted to use for each part of the wedding. This cd helps you suggest the placement for the prelude, processional, ceremony and recessional. The cd mainly has classical songs, but it does have a few of "today's" songs. There could have been a few more songs they could have added. But overall, its a good cd.

5 out of 5 stars Hooray for Hollywood.......2007-07-22

I bought this CD to go with an Academy Awards/Hollywood Walk-of-Fame theme party at work. It was the perfect accompaniment and mood setter.

It was February and a group of us decorated the lounge with black, gold, and silver tableclothes and balloon bouquets, and scattered around clap boards and faux film strip on the tables, along with movie trivia cards and black and gold wrapped mints. I made a walk-of-fame star for every employee and taped them on the walls around the room. We also laid down a red carpet from the entrance of the room to about the center with the decorated tables flanking both sides. We sat up the snack table with a sign that said, "Studio Commissary" and went with theme snacks like "James Bonbons with Halle Berry sauce," and "The Queen's scones." Each week we took a quarter of the walk-of-fame stars and posted them on the bulletin board for the staff to write peer compliments under. At the end of the week these stars were taken down and the next set of stars was posted.

This CD really set the mood for employees as they entered the lounge for the first time on that first day after it was decorated, and during the party at the end of the month. The month ended with an Academy Award party with an Oscar going to each employee for outstanding effort in whatever category (best dressed, best supporting staff member, most animated story teller, most pleasant entercom voice, most punctual, best sense of humor, most artistic, etc.), and they were given their stars with the peer compliments attached to the back. Everyone commented on how special they felt and how neat the theme was. Good morale booster.

This CD would also be perfect for the ambiance at your own Academy Awards party at home. Print out those ballots, cast your votes, pop some popcorn and pass around the Juji fruits, and let's watch the Oscars!

5 out of 5 stars Kunzel does it yet again!.......2004-11-23

Kunzel & The Cincinnati Pops do a great job everytime, and this is no exception. I'm telling you, if you ever thought that purely intrumental/orchestral was unattractive, this will change your mind. Never a disappointment!

5 out of 5 stars Movie Music.......2002-12-12

If you love that music from all those movies you've seen, then this is the CD you want! It is fantastic!! I want more!! I hope Erich Kunzel will come out with some music from older movies and maybe some TV programs. Listening to his music is better than watching the movie.

5 out of 5 stars More than Beautiful!!.......2002-12-11

This is the absolute best CD they ever put together! And that is saying a lot as we are very picky about what music we like. This is the kind of music that makes you 'feel' deeply. It encourages you to dream big and love living! Forget the grooves, drums and bangs and listen to something incredibly beatiful! You won't be sorry for the money invested in this one bit of sanity in such a hectic world.

5 out of 5 stars This is the one you should own.......2002-10-27

If you are looking for just one solid collection of memorable movie themes, this is it. Other CDs mix marches and fanfares with quieter tracks, which makes for a jarring listening experience at times. This CD, however, has a consistent feel all the way through. Melodic, calming, and, best of all, interesting. These movie tracks weren't selected simply for their sound, but also because they are GOOD. You get the best of the best: James Horner, Alan Silvestri, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, Ennio Morricone, and Randy Edelman.

5 out of 5 stars wow awesome !!!.......2007-03-31

this band is one of my favorites. get this. Chris is one of the best metal/rock vocalists. all his music is a++

5 out of 5 stars Give this band a chance!!.......2007-03-29

When this band's first single "Reliance" was released a lot of people instantly tossed them in with the generic nu-metal crowd, and based on that one song I don't really blame them. However, if people would just give this band a chance and listen to this album, they will find that "Reliance" is the only track of it's kind and that the band has so much more to offer.

Flaw is much more than meets the eye, and once you start to hear a few more tracks off of Through the Eyes this becomes very apparent. Yes the percussion is not anything ground breaking, and the guitar work isn't on par with some other bands in this genre, but I promise you that the vocals are. Chris Volz is classically trained in music and it shows. His driving powerful vocals set this band apart from any other band of the same ilk. He is melodious when he needs to be, such as on the records best track "My Letter", but he is still able to let out earth shaking screams, like on the absolutely haunting "Whole" a song about Chris's mothers suicide when he was a young boy.

There are several standout tracks on this album with the headliners being "My Letter" and "Whole". Other great songs include, "Only the Strong", "Inner Strength", "Out of Whack", "Best I Am", and "One More Time". Like I said earlier, "Reliance" is really the only sub-par track on the album. Make sure to listen until the end of the album for the acoustic version of "Only the Strong", which is extremely good.

If you like this album make sure to check out Flaw's second release Endangered Species or check out Chris Volz's other band Five.Bolt.Main. and their first release Venting. You will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Note to Chris .....reform Flaw!!! and a 3rd album please!!.......2007-03-13

In the past 2 years I have purchased more music than I have in the last 20!! This cd is one of the best rock albums I have heard. (Pearl Jam's ten being on of those) The rifs, melody's and those blistering guitars are amazing!!! I could never understand why Flaw never was given the proper credit or airplay they deserved. I can only guess why Chris decided to form another band called Five.Bolt.Main. Probably because He felt Flaw had not had that much success? Please Chris give us more of Flaw!!!!

5 out of 5 stars PERFECT!.......2006-06-18

This album is perfect for any rock or metal fans guranteed! Every song sounds perfect and they are great....like i said perfect.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Debut by Flaw.......2006-03-27

Flaw's debut album, "Through the Eyes", is definitely one of the better CDs I've purchased in the past few months. I'm impressed specifically with Chris Volz's intellectual lyrics and, of course, his phenomenal, harmonic singing. The heavy, distorted, wailing guitars complement his emotional delivery, making every song memorable.

1. Only The Strong = 9.5/10 - I love everything about this song. It begins with a foreshadowing buzz and introduces a cry of "Step on up!" from vocalist Chris Volz, who proceeds into a very well-done verse. From there, you're taken into a beautifully melodic yet heavy chorus, which makes the song one of the best on the album. The bridge is quite impressive as well. Excellent opener to a sensational CD.

2. Payback = 9.1/10 - A heavy riff begins "Payback", one of two singles off "Through the Eyes". The following verse is soft, but builds into a brutal screaming chorus. A heavy, angst-ridden song.

3. My Letter = 9.1/10 - I always really enjoy listening to this one. The slow, deep vocals are a comforting and enjoyable feature after "Payback". Very relatable lyrics. Destined to be one of your favorites.

4. Get Up Again = 8.4/10 - This song isn't one of the greatest on the album, but still an impressive track by Flaw. Included are some heavy guitars and screams in the chorus, as well as a very unique formula, as the two verses are done before the chorus is introduced. Very good effort by Flaw on this one.

5. Whole = 9.3/10 - I love to listen to "Whole". I'm always impressed by the passionate lyrics throughout the verse, as well as Chris' emotional delivery on the chorus. This song was inspired by the suicide of his stepmother, which must be difficult for him to sing about. There's about thirty seconds a whispered rap in the bridge, which I really enjoy. One of my favorites.

6. Amendment = 8.7/10 - "Amendment" is a great song to bang your head to, though seeming to drag along after the second chorus. There is an intense rapping verse, put to what I think is a really fitting beat. Really good song.

7. Scheme = 8.8/10 - I associate this closely with "Amendment", and think of them as about the same. "Scheme" has amazing drumming, as well as another fast-paced sreaming rap, my favorite part of the song. I love the lyrics of this track.

8. What I Have To Do = 9.2/10 - There is kind of an annoying buzz in the background at the beginning of this one, but "What I Have To Do" builds a phenomenal heavy and emotional anthem. A great sing-along chorus. Slows down during the bridge, but I really love to listen to this song.

9. Inner Strength = 8.0/10 - "Inner Strength" is an impressive song, but it's probably my least favorite on the CD. I enjoy the verse, but the chorus doesn't do much for me.

10. Best I Am = 9.6/10 - My favorite on "Through the Eyes", along with "Only the Strong". This is a beautiful ballad in which Chris Volz assures that he will be the best example he can be in a heavy, driving, emotional chorus. The verses are soft and at times acoustic, and go very well with the rest of the song. "Best I Am" in my opinion is just brilliant.

11. Out of Whack = 8.8/10 - I feel like I should like "Out of Whack" more than I do. Maybe it should be a bit longer. Oh well, it's still a very impressive song with a great chorus. I don't have much more to say, but it's not one to skip.

12. Reliance = 9.0/10 - Another brief song, but it gets right to work with a heavy, growling approach throughout the entire track. It doesn't alter much, but it's fun to bob your head to.

13. One More Time = 9.4/10 - Excellent ending to an incredible album. A haunting verse with sustained drumming intoduces a great harmonic chorus. It's quite a slow, soft song until the last chorus, where the guitars erupt with explosive distortion and Chris Volz screams out "One more time" repeatedly. It sounds so great, it makes me cringe.

All in all, this is a spectacular display of skillful and emotional musicianship by Flaw. I don't really care what it's classified as. If someone says this is "Nu-metal", it doesn't mean it's an effortless waste. This album is awesome, whatever genre you want to call it.

As Hammerstein writes in the opening song, "Many dames with lofty aims strive for lofty goals"--and Te Kanawa strives for successful crossover. Her beautiful singing exhibits impeccable diction and excellent phrasing; but "A Fine Romance" lacks anger and humor, "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" lacks a storyteller, and "All the Things You Are" lacks romanticism. However, happy songs like "All Through the Day," "Look for the Silver Lining," and "The Folks Who Live on the Hill," are successfully interpreted. Jonathan Tunick's orchestrations enhance Kern's beauty through his captivating use of obbligato instruments. A pleasant, if not wholly satisfactory, listening experience. --Barbara Eisner Bayer

5 out of 5 stars kiri kern.......2007-03-29

Kiri is sensational on this CD. Jerome Kern music is stupendous and the arrangements superb. Three top esses.

5 out of 5 stars Kiri sing Kern is a great experience.......2004-01-18

I love the way she sings Kern's songs. Though certainly not opera, Kern's songs benefit from an an operatic approach--not all of them, but certainly ones such Smoke gets in your Eyes, The song is you, All the things you are. I love Kern;s songs sung in many styles but Kiri's way is one of the best.

On the other hand, I did not like Kiri singing Berlin.

3 out of 5 stars Lacks Splendor.......2002-09-01

Though I do enjoy Kiri's interpretation of most music, and this CD was decent, I did not find any piece particularly memorable.

The voice is undeniably beautiful, and Kiri has managed to keep her maturing voice sounding somewhat young, yet I find that I much prefer her rendition of "The Laughing Song" to that of "Smoke Gets in YOur Eyes."

If you love Kern, and couldn't care less who performs it, than purchase this CD. If you are a fan of Kiris', then perhaps it would be best to avoid this purchase...for it is not a shining star in her vast collection of CDs. All in all, it was a disappointment.

5 out of 5 stars White Glove Kern.......2001-05-20

I am the first to admit that most "crossover" albums, be they of classical performers singing pop or vice versa never quite cross over. This album does splendidly. Kern's music is the most related to classical operetta , and therefore the least jazziest. Operatic soprano Kiri Te Kanawa gives luscious, heartfelt readings of these wonderful songs, backed by glamorous orchestrations. Hearing a voice of such opulence and beauty in this music is a rare treat. Just listen to "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" ,"Long Ago and Far Away" or "The Song is You" and prepare to be swept away to another, more elegant time.

3 out of 5 stars mildly disappointing.......2000-09-30

Sometimes cross-over works, sometimes not. While Kiri te Kanawa has a beautiful voice, she never gets into the idiom of these Jerome Kern masterpieces sufficiently to convey their stories or their subtleties. Smoke Gets in Your Eyes especially stands out, she sings it with none of the pathos the song demands and her version pales compared to the Platters. The orchestral arrangements are decent and in many of the songs the purity of her voice is enough to carry them, but overall I would say this is a disappointing example of a crossover record. Ms. te Kanawa should stick to what she does best.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet Vocal Jazz Sound From Randy Crawford.......2002-10-16

If you have never really listened to Randy Crawford or are not sure which CD to buy. Start with 'Randy Crawford, through the eyes of love.' Crawford has a pure 'don't need a microphone' voice. There is a very early Dinah Washington quality to Ms Crawfords voice and style. Be prepared to sing along even if you don't know the words, especially when she sings "Hold On, Be Strong" or "Shine."Crawford's soft 'Diamante' duet with Zucchero is awesome. Buy this CD, you will play it again and again.Vannie(~.~)

4 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Smooth And Mellow Album.......2000-08-31

"Through The Eyes Of Love" ranks among my personal favorites among my Randy Crawford collection; the atmosphere on this album is one of total relaxation and subtlety. From her re-working of the Journey tune "Who's Crying Now", Randy takes the song, a power ballad for Journey lead singer Steve Perry and transforms it into a Smooth Jazz rendering and perhaps in the process widens the song's appeal to a whole new audience.

The talent Randy surrounds herself with on this album is quite formidable and she never squanders it; from producer Michael J. Powell, best known for his stellar work with Anita Baker ("Rapture", "Giving You The Best That I Got", "Compositions"), keyboardist Vernon D. Fails, alto saxaphone great Sadao Watanabe to songwriters Allee Willis, Zucchero, Jermaine Jackson (the glorious "If You'd Only Believe") and even herself, Randy utilizes this wonderful assemblage to her best advantage. The wonderful "It's Raining", a song about lovers making it through a rough spot in their relationship simply shines; Randy's vocals never resort to cheap theatrics, rather her voice tells the story without embellishment.

"When Love Is New", a song about the newness and mystery that encompassess the beginning of a love affair, has a gorgeous, laid-back minimalist appeal, especially the percussion; defintely a song to listen to with the top down. "Just A Touch", with liberal alto sax phrasings from the great Sadao Watanabe, is another standout track on this album, as is "Diamante", a duet with Italian singer Zucchero (who also garners a co-writing credit), has a great life-affirming message woven throughout it.

"A Lot That You Can Do" has a funky, groove-laden feel from beginning to end and Randy's vocals make you feel that she really enjoys this song in particular; same goes for "Rhythm Of Romance", another top-down, wind-in-your-hair driving song.

Overall, a splendid album, as evidenced in Randy's vocals, the musicians and production. A great Smooth Jazz album by a wonderful and eclectic song stylist. Definitely worth owning.

Album Description

RPWL was originally formed in Germany in 1997 as a Pink Floyd Tribute band and though they have held on to many of the "Floydian" qualities that helped them to shape their sound they have also managed to seamlessly blend in their own ideas and personalities. They made their U.S. debut through Inside Out Music America in 2002 with Trying To Kiss The Sun which garnered critical acclaim throughout the US progressive rock community. Now with the release of World Through My Eyes, their second release for IOMA, RPWL hopes to firmly establish themselves as an original voice. Deftly blending progressive rock with elements of psychedelia and middle-eastern rhythms, RPWL paint a hauntingly beautiful portrait of flower-eyed surrealism. Driving drum beats fuel hypnotic melodies that swirl lazily and dream-like around the listener. RPWL recently headlined the 2004 Rights of Spring Festival (ROSfest) in Philadelphia and they hope to grace shores once again in support of the new release.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A Good Catch.......2007-07-02

RPWL, a German progressive rock band, starts to break out into the musical world with their fourth album "World Through My Eyes." I really disagree with some of the reviewers saying that this band is like a Pink Floyd clone. It seems obvious to me that RPWL have their own sound, there's no denying the Pink Floyd influence, but it in no way overshadows their own sound.

One thing I find hard to do is label a specific genre to this band, I dislike labels anyway, I only see it as being good music. However, for the sake of categorizing what it sounds like, I guess there is a big psychedelic vibe accompanied by pop and progressive rock with a touch of blues. Either way, the stuff is brilliant.

I know this album is not a concept album, but the songs seem to flow very well. "World Through My Eyes" is definitely an album that you will find yourself listening to all the way through. That being said, some songs stood out to me more than others.

The opening track "Sleep" is a very psychedelic tune that combines elements of rock with that of Middle-Eastern sounding melodies. This is a great song to just sit down and listen to, and as its name suggests, you could just fall asleep to it. The next song, "Start the Fire," kicks off with a very melodic guitar melody and is a great psychedelic rock song. The track "Roses" features Ray Wilson from Stiltskin as the lead vocalist and he really has a great voice, this song showcases just how great his voice is. Like others have mentioned, this is just a great pop song.

Then there's my personal favorite song "3 Lights" which is another brilliant mellow rock song. This is Yogi Lang's finest vocal performance and keyboard performance on the whole album in my opinion. When he starts singing in all the harmonies I just feel so at peace. The keyboards are also phenomenal, especially the synthesizer solo about half-way through the song. I think this track is the best on the album. My last favorite would be the last song "Wasted Land" the song is just so catchy and the instrumentation is wonderful.

Well that's about it for RPWL I am certainly happy that I stumbled across this band and hearing this album has now given me the urge to explore the rest of their discography.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent CD!.......2007-04-06

I was turned on to this band by the Roger Waters (of Pink Floyd) International fan club (REG). I am so glad I bought it! It is a fantastic CD. Every song is good. Some are just amazing. The more you hear it the more you like it. At first it sounded so much like Gilmour's newer Pink Floyd (Division Bell, Momentary Lapse) that it was hard for me to hear it on it's own merits however after a few times I began to see they have their own style which blends Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, with elements of Beatles and more. Now that I have heard it over and over I feel this record is better than any of the new Pink Floyd stuff, better than Gilmour's solo record which came out last year (which I like). As a real Waters fan I can't say it is better than Roger's solo work but it is up there with some of my favorite CD's of all time. The title song "World through my Eyes" is my favorite and sounds the least Floydian of all the songs on the CD. It has elements of Gabriel and maybe NIN in it and when I play it while riding my bike and the beat comes in I feel like I can ride faster and harder than ever. It just rips! You will not regret buying this CD! Get it now!

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful world.......2006-07-16

I would highly recommend this release to fans of Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd or Riverside. The production is great and the songwriting top-notch. Very rich melodies, excellent instrumentation and smooth, calming vocals abound. Much has been said of comparisons to Floyd, but I find the vocals and the use of organ on some tracks the only real similarities. To me, the guitar sound is more similar to U2 (which isn't a bad thing!) The albums starts off very nicely with "Sleep" (which isn't a sleeper at all,) and continues very nicely with some other great melodies. My favorites are "Sleep," Everything Was Not Enough," and "Roses," although none of the tracks are weak. More accessible than Pink Floyd, but still complex enough to entertain any prog fan.

4 out of 5 stars Worth A Look For All Prog Fans.......2006-06-23

RPWL is a German-born group that started out as a Pink Floyd tribute act. While the Floyd influence is clear, this band should not be dismissed as a knock-off. "Roses" has a melodic beauty that the Pink rarely aimed for, while "Start the Fire" and "Wasted Land" show a distinctive knack for hooks. This is definitely progressive rock, but in more traditional bytes (not 20-minute forays). There are moments when they sound as much like the Moody Blues or Saga as Floyd but, in any case, any fan of prog should definitely give a listen.

5 out of 5 stars Best Progressive Rock Band Since Porcupine Tree.......2006-04-13

This band is awesome, they sound like a mix between all the great progressive rock bands especially early Genesis and King Crimson and in some ways they sound better because they don't sound dated at all and they have such an original sound. When I first started listining to this album I didn't really like it because I wasn't expecting much and I didn't give it the amount of attention it deserved. After a couple listens I was completly blown away by such songs as Sleep, Everything Was Not Enough, 3 Lights, and Day On My Pillow, every song on it is amazing.I think that this is a concept album about religion and I really hope that you buy this album because it is truly life changing and this band deserves to be heard.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars great.......2005-08-08

Best Indian Blues album. Alexie + Jim = reality check = lets move beyond where we are now = then we may be able to get some of it back. Now go check out a folksinger from Minnesota, her name is Sarah Thomsen. Not the jazz artist but the folk singer, get her Is This for Freedom cd. Wow. And don't forget Annie Humphrey.
