Delerium was the perfect diamond chipped out of the blasted earth of Front Line Assembly. A collaboration between FLA's Rhys Fulber and Bill Leeb, Delerium took them to the opposite pole of their prior industrial electronic sound. Where FLA was a group that would just as soon sledgehammer Pachebel's "Canon in C," Delerium turns it into a dance number of ethereal seduction called "Paris." Drawing from their recordings for Nettwerk Records, this collection focuses on the seductive side of Delerium with chilled electro-dance rhythms and the bevy of ethereal girls they've used to front their project. Of course, Sarah McLachlan's "Silence," a yearning hymn for heaven, is here in it's original and a remixed version. "Silence" remains Delerium's greatest hit, but there are many equally compelling tracks including songs with Leigh Nash of Sixpence None the Richer and early works featuring a little-known singer, Kristy Thirsk. It was Thirsk who established Delerium's penchant for gothic lyricism on "Flowers Become Screens." While their recent CD, Chimera, shows a slick tendency toward the middle of the road, this retrospective highlights Delerium's crafty merger of techno-dance grooves and diva-driven lyricism. --John Diliberto

Another "must have"........2007-06-14
Great compilation. Even though I own a lot of their stuff, I still bought this CD.
Pleasant .......2007-05-08
This album was very nice. I would have done it a bit different, but then we all have different tastes. I love "Paris", that is such a fun song. Another great song that I thought was great was "Flowers Become Screens", this sounds like a gothic/angelic piece. This is a great album, you will have fun with the many different moods it creates.
Great Overview and Collection.......2007-01-05
I have many of the Delerium CD's but there are songs here that I have never heard before. This is an excellent compliation of the music of Delerium. I'm frankly surprised that they would make it as good as it is since you could buy it and have much of their best music. On the other hand the music is so good it could also inspire you to buy all of their other CD's. If you like Delirium in the least this is a can't miss purchase.
Nice Blend.......2006-11-02
This album is a nice blend of 14 really good tracks by Delerium. There is not a single song that I skip on this CD. From what I have read and listened to, if you are going to buy only one Delerium album, make it this one. There are some Gregorian monks chanting, Indian sound clips, good special effects and synth use, beautiful sounding female vocalists, poppy upbeat songs, and more introspective tracks as well. If you like this album I can also recommend Amethystium, Mythos, Blue Stone, Balligomingo, and Sleepthief. I am happy to have them all in my collection. Really exquisite stuff.
Angelic and Dreamy.......2006-07-20
Silence - There is a reason this is on here three times, but the
first dreamy and angelic version is my favorite. The only
track I listen to on this album...repeatedly.

Completely satisfied.......2007-04-01
I am very satisfied with this product and recommend it to anyone who likes instrumental and haunting melodies.
Holiday music with that extra magic - creepiness!.......2007-01-26
If you are in a holiday mood, but are heartily fed up with Irish (or even worse: Mariah Carey!) Christmas songs, then you might want to consider this album. It is not a soundeffect album, nor is it program music. A final touch is that it is not cheaply produced, as some more traditional holiday albums.
The music conveys a feeling of cold, dark, and immensly lonely winter. The Christmas is there, but there are undertows of older and more sinister rituals, and whispers call the more unwary listeners to join in...
This album could be a very good way to spice up the celebrations.
Another brilliant Nox Arcana CD!.......2007-01-03
Nox Arcana's versatility has made them a tough act to follow. Whether it be a musical journey into the foreboding land of vampires (Transylvania) or a sinister carnival with a bloody history (Carnival of Lost Souls) or any of their other forays into gothic imaginings, Nox Arcana has taken each concept and breathed impressive, symphonic life into it. Their CDs truly are mini symphonies, with astounding musicianship and intricate orchestrations.
In Winter's Knight, Nox Arcana presents a moody, elegant collection of holiday-themed songs that captures the more mystical, meditative side of Christmas. The CD's strong medieval/classical flavor is refreshing, particularly since most Christmas music nowadays seems dominated by more modern songs. Joseph Vargo and William Piotrowski offer great new arrangements of classic pieces like "Veni, Veni, Emmanuel" as well as many of their own moving compositions, such as the memorably haunting "Crystal Forest" and the chilling piano-dominated "Evening Star." Guest vocalist Michelle Belanger also contributes a lovely interpretation of the holiday standard "Past Time With Good Company" and Jeff Endemann's vocal work on "Coventry Carol" is likewise a highlight.
While most Christmas music is, unfortunately, either infantile and annoying or overdone, Winter's Knight provides a refreshing change of piece full of musical elegance and mystical beauty.
Music to be enchanted by.......2006-12-25
As mesmerizing as falling snow, this poetic and magickal soundscape creates a wonderland of lavish treats befitting the Holiday Season. Haunting and sophisticated, there's a certain luster to these songs that reflects the gothically romantic luxury only Nox Arcana can deliver. The addition of neo-bard, Jeff Endemann's spellbinding voice on "Coventry Carol" delivers an extra gift of warmth for those chilly Yuletide evenings. The original score by Vargo and Piotrowski interspersed with classic carols and a booklet of eye-candy artwork by Joseph Vargo makes this a perfect fit for any Holiday Collection, so fill your wassail cup, pull up some moonlight and breathe in the wonder of Winter Knights.
Very Good, Different.......2006-11-04
The idea behind this CD and the music itself are a breath of fresh air in the stagnant holiday music scene. Dark and evocative, it pushes aside the sugarplums and saccharine we're all used to. However, the production leaves quite a bit to be desired. It's all done with computers - the choral parts are lacking in fullness, I can't always tell what the stringed "instruments" are supposed to be, and rather than cadences that would give finality to the piece, the tracks often come to a sudden stop. 3 1/2 stars.

What nightmares are made of!.......2006-11-16
I received this CD from a co-worker when I was in the hospital. He knew I loved ambient music so I was very excited! Upon arriving home, I popped it in the player and sat back to enjoy. Wow! This actually made the hair on the back of my neck stand up! It's a chilling fluid movement that can be found in the depths of our nightmares. I highly recommend this if you are up for a evening of chills and wanderings of the imagination.
Someone is following you..........2006-11-14
...or are you just being paranoid? Can you be sure? Do you even know whether you are awake or dreaming? Such is the atmosphere created by this minimalistic, dark work. It is as though you are trapped deep underground in some pitch black cave, and yet the place you are in is far too surreal for the situation to be quite that simple. While not quite as desolate or dark as Lustmord's other work, this is definitely not for anyone looking for upbeat material. In fact, this album probably did more to introduce the dark ambient genre to more people than any work of recent memory, and deservedly so; it's an engaging piece (all the tracks flow together as if they were one) and it is certainly one of the best of its kind. These two guys should definitely collaborate again. If you like this CD, you should also check out 'Cold Summer' by Lull, and, of course, Lustmord's own 'Heresy.'
Soundtrack to the void and flares of emptiness.......2006-06-27
That the collaboration of two ambient acts can have astonishing results, has been proved in the recent past by Norway's Biosphere and Scotland's Higher Intelligence Agency (they made the highly admirable and unique "Polar sequences" and "Birmingham frequencies").
Now we have Lustmord, who produced such stark, creepy dark ambient albums as "Heresy" and "The place where the black stars hang", collaborating with Robert Rich on a concept album, that had the Russian film "Stalker" as source of inspiration. The Andrei Tarkovski movie, about three men entering an undefinable "forbidden zone", had a terrific soundrack of its own, by the acclaimed Russian composer Eduard Artemjew.
But although one might expect that Lustmord and Rich have a huge admiration for both the film and its original musical design, they completely went their own way with their record, producing an eerie, chilly mood and giving us a sense that something frightning is lurking in the dark.
Sizzeling sounds, diversed iron scraping noises, musical tones that sound like psychotic whispering, hollow chants, everything is in place to put our minds and sanity to the test.
But like the best (and darkest) moments of Lustmord, the music prevails. It succeeds in taking us on a journey into the unknown, into the undesirable, into a place that is filled with loathing and despair, through an all embracing sacrilegious void, and yet, pulls us out at the last moment, to let us emerge again to the surface, and give us a new sense of brightness and illumination, as though we went through some kind of musical catharsis.
Maybe. Maybe.
Don't judge a Book by its Cover..........2006-02-05
But in this case you can..
Imagine. You're on an island, the same island you see on the cover. No one knows about the island. No one will ever know you're there. No one will ever come near. No one will ever hear you scream. No one will ever find your body. That thought frightens you, yet at the same time fascinates you.
You're standing on the beach, the wind whales over the sea, making a lush sound that bearely brakes the silence that surrounds you and the whole island. It's not really cold, but you still have an ice-y shiver running over your spine. It's getting darker, you can still see the things that are close to you, but you can't see what's between those trees behind you. You're sleepy, but decide not to sleep either because you're too excited or too frightened, you don't know.
The darkness gets thicker, you can see less and less, until you can only hear the sound of the sea and the wind in a night without a moon. You suddenly hear other, stranger sounds, but don't question what they're from. Besides, you're so sleepy, you probably just imagine them. Yeah, that's it, you're just imagining them, it's your head playing tricks on you. Yup, definately. Yeah, maybe. Yeah, hopefully..
You hear sounds, the strangest you ever heard. You hear.. voices? Could that be possible? You lay down, hoping to fall asleep. You grab sand, as if you hope it will protect you against whatever is watching you. The sea comes closer and touches your bare feet, and although the water is cold, it calms your troubled soul. Deep inside. The sea keeps touching your feet.. Am I sure that's the sea touching me? It sure doesn't feel like the sea.. Everything is dark, darker than the darkest night you ever seen. And then, all of the sudden two pale white eyes open right in front of you..
You wake up, screaming your lungs out. Sweat drips off your face. You look around, you're in your room. Yup, the plate on which you ate your pizza last night is still there. You see you left your computer on. You forgot to close the music player. You left your CD playing. The CD just ended. You look on the cover of the CD. The island. The Sea. Stalker. Robert Rich. Lustmord.
A Dark Classic.......2005-07-13
It did not take long while listening to this cd for me to appreciate it as being something entirely cool. The production quality alone is superb enough to warrant investigation, and the album is also strong in a compositional sense. What contributes to this, I believe, is the interaction between the 2 musicians Rich and Lustmord. On the one hand, you have a more traditionally ambient sensibility, creating chord structures and floating melodies, and on the other you have the dark ambient sensiblility of Lustmord, expanding Rich's music into huge spaces, deftly defined with sounds that run the blade between music and noise.
I was tempted to check my little stereo while listening to this album, because it sounded to me like a hole had opened up behind it to reveal some giant space filled with fog and wild landscapes. If you could see my stereo, this would certainly impress you. On a good system, I can hardle imagine how cool this release would sound. . .

The Beauty of the Male Voice.......2006-05-04
I was fortunate to hear The Male Choir of St. Petersburg perform at the Peter and Paul Cathedral in Saint Petersburg, and was stunned by the power and beauty of their song. The director, aware that the deep, resonate voices struck a chord within each member of the audience, held the final note of each song until it echoed from the rafters. The songs are usually traditional Russian songs, but are not religious chants, as many people seem to expect - one song, called "O My Field" is an ode to a farmer's plot of ground. I recommend this album, a great opportunity to revel in the beauty of the male voice.

Following no preconceived musical rules, Jasyn Bangert erratically experiments with various electronic music styles on this record. From scary grooves to brainwashing dance hooks to epic dark melodies, the progress and further maturity of God Module's sound is impossible to ignore. God Module has grown musically since their inception and this record shows what they're capable of in all their gory.
Customer Reviews:
Dark ???.......2007-06-11
This may be dark in a lyrical way, but in no way is it heavy! By the reviews I read, I thought it might lean towards a heary metal sound, but not at all. It's much more pop synth than anything, like something to listen to while watching "The Munsters". Not a totally bad CD, just not at all what I expected and much less of a hard driving rythym than I usually listen to. How diverse of a musical taste do you have?
THE CHILD DEVIANT.......2007-05-06
Another great album by these Industrial/Goth/EBM-Cyber Freaks!!!! This album hits harder than the prior album (Viscera) and leans closer to the "gothic" side of things than the "industrial" side. I'm no genius, but I know an entertaining album when I hear one....and this album is certainly entertainment. >:)

Album Description
The "voice" of the Emmy-nominated "Mists of Avalon" TNT/WB score, Aeone (pronounced Ay-Own) delivers a powerful body of work in this 13-song CD. With the unique vocal sound that has become her trademark, along with lush, cinematic arrangements and production, this beautifully-crafted album takes one on a journey from mystical etherea to the dark and ancient longings of the soul.
The album begins with the thundering "One Tribe", a call to prayer for all nations, which blends an East-West feel with Celtic sensibility in contemporary groove. It then flows effortlessly into the reflective and poignant title track, "POINT OF FAITH". As song follows song, the listener is carried away on an emotional tide of music, moving from the lavish, layered vocals of "Umbra Nihili" to the absolute purity of Aeone's voice in "The Last Breath".Aeone creates her rich thematic tracks by blending ethnic instruments and pads with strings and heavy grooves, alongside live players such as Irish and Blue Grass fiddles - allowing her voice to rise above it all.Silverman also co-wrote/co-produced with Aeone the mesmerizing "She Walks with Me".
The CD includes "I Will Remember You Still", the haunting song produced and performed by Aeone, from the "Mists of Avalon" soundtrack CD, inspired by both the legends of Avalon and Lee Holdridge's Emmy-nominated score for the recent mini-series of that name.
As this artist now presents her new album, "POINT OF FAITH", those who already know and love her work will doubtless agree that this is her most beautiful music to date.
This cd is complemented by a 20-page full color booklet, an otherworldly visual experience of pictures and lyrics. "POINT OF FAITH" is also an enhanced CD that comes with bonus pictures, high quality MP3's
Customer Reviews:
Point of Faith.......2007-02-24
I really loved this cd. I am always a little afraid of buying a cd I can not hear sample music. I have had a few that were terrible. HOWEVER, this one was great I felt like my imagination was flying off to some place. Some songs I wanted to get up and dance, others I wanted just to relax to. This is by no means a roller coaster ride cd. This does not song like Lorenna. Not sure who thought they sounded a like.
WAY TO THE HEART.......2007-01-05
The Song "Point Of Faith" Is worth the price alone for me. She sings about forgiving.... She sings " Let me walk in Fields of my own goodness..Let me lie no more with my regret, I believe in all the choices I have made, From a point of love within my heart I forgive myself for all the mistakes" , " From a point of grace within my soul, I release myself for all the blame" Each Song Is written fully so you can enjoy the meaning anytime you want. This Woman has a Spiritual way about her that makes you feel good about yourself.
Haunting Vocal Work - May Have Limited Appeal to Celtic Music Fans.......2006-11-25
I wouldn't term Aeone's vocal work as complex. Perhaps I would typify it as more arcane or limited to the narrow genre (Celtic) within which she has presented herself as being a part of. Even then, I wouldn't say she has the range and complexity of a more worldly performer such as Loreena McKennit but she definitely brings the vocal tinges of Kate Bush back into the present. Even for fans of Kate Bush, who is and was a phenomenal performance artist as well as vocalist, I wouldn't typify Aeone as a brilliant or an enrapturing artist who sweeps listeners up into her musical impressionism. But more of the lilting high-ranging soprano with an easy falsetto that strikes one as very ancient yet very modern in her vocal capability. I must admit I wasn't overwhelmed as I've been with some of the modern performers like Loreena McKennit, Enya, Aoife Ni Fhearraigh, or the Celtic Women, but she's not displeasing either. For real afficianado's I'd recommend more traditional Gaelic music such as Celtic Spirit or the new (2006) release of Pure Nightnoise. Lot's of older music but a good sampling of the genre.
I love this CD........2005-10-07
I love this CD and listen to it at least once a day.
Aeone just keeps getting better!.......2005-02-25
I accidentally discovered Aeone on MP3.comback in 1999. Ever since then, her music has haunted me, spoken to me, reached into me and brought out the Celtic heritage I never knew I had. Her music is powerful, sensitive, stirring... her music is truly a work of art. I'm ecstatic that Umbra Nihili is finally on a CD... that song sends a shiver down my spine every time i hear it... for any artist to be able to harness that kind of power in a song is a miracle just waiting to be heard. The rest of the album follows suit, bringing forth an almost supernatural presence withits beauty. I can't stress enough how much I love Aeone... one listen, and I'm sure you'll agree.

silent serenity.......2003-06-26
for laswell fans this enters you into a real ambient realm of sound scapes but also features recordings from borobudur, java and monkey forest, bali=indonesia. its a resampled percussion with a verry bell like sound mixed with a conga like sound continuing and swirling keeping the rythm and sound scapes then dipping the rythm in and out laswell style for about 40 min or soo then kicking in some fat slow dub style, to the best of my knowlege not featured on another release from laswell or heavelly masked. You can buy the meta collection album that features shinning stone the beat part if your not really interested in the bells and sound scapes but if you have the time for the trip you will tripp with the results im not really into repeditive music but shinning stone is different designed for intuitive hallucinations and meditative mentallity, spiritual dream conscience. the track is 1:00:30
enjoy the tripp!!!
Fragmented Journey.......2000-07-24
I guess, it helps being familiar with Bill Laswell's prolific output, when reviewing a new release such as this. Falling somewhere between "Divination - Sacrifice" and more recently "Low Def Pressure", to name just one. The disc opens with a series of sustained drones over which a simple rhythmic figure provides an accompaniment. The ryhthm in this cae is secondary to the sitar like chords which maintain the most focus of interest for the first half of the disc, and yes.... it is just one long track clocking in at just over an hour. This is an excercise in meditation within the first 36 minutes the changes are few and reasonably subtle as for example in early Reich or Riley. The figures and rhythms morph over a period of minutes not seconds. So take it slowly, this is an album to let your thougts unravel, to take a journey. a little over half way through, the more recognisable laswell drum and bass begins to appear, this is fragmentary but has the effect, albeit briefly of bringing everything into sharp focus from a soft blur. Sitar sounds although still apparent are now augmented by detuned piano sounds and there is a spiralling sense of urgency as opposed to the former calm. This mood is sustained for just a few minutes before the journey once more fragments into a soft haze of unknown landscapes. for a brief period all is calm, and just as suddenly the musical mood changes into a Material/Praxis like funk, "is that Buckethead in the mix"? The disc eventually returns to it's former self this time with the sound of bells continuing the fragmentation in the final minutes, as the journey slowly disntegrates like sand trickling through the fingers of your Hi Fi system.

Midnight Syndicate once again takes you on a musical journey through the darkest corners of your imagination. Dim the lights, but take heed... what darkness conjures, the night harbors."

Wonderful earlier works.......2007-07-11
This is by far one of my favorite albums from the group. I would highly recommend this album as one to have someone listen to start any sort of interest with the group.
Realm of mediocrity.......2007-04-29
I must say that in investigating the world of Midnight Syndicate over the past year I found that this CD seems to be the most-talked about, highly-praised and least available of their releases. Now, that I have it in my possession (the 5th Midnight Syndicate CD I have bought in 10 months) I find it to be kind of bland compared to Gates Of Delirium and The 13th Hour (although it's a step up from Born Of The Night which walks the fence between creepy and corny). While the mood and sound effects on Realm Of Shadows are nice (the crows on the CD made me think I had one trying to build a nest on my balcony), there are really no tracks that stand out. They all just kind of run together. I'm not saying it's awful. Like most things in life, it just doesn't live up to the hype.
This was officially my first Midnight Syndicate CD....Life hasn't been the same since..........2007-02-02
You know, little did I know as I walked by this particular booth at a convention what I was listening to was going to affect me in the profound way that it did. A CD called Vampyre was playing and I stopped dead in my tracks and listened. It was simply beautiful. I asked the man at the booth if he had anything that might be appropriate for a graveyard? He recommended this CD. I also bought what was playing and didn't think twice about it. *This*, REalm of Shadows, was the first official CD that I listened to by this band known as Midnight Syndicate. I was completely transfixed by the music. I never sat down until several tracks later. I was officially crying my heart out by the second track saying "oh my God..this is so beautiful.." over and over.
That night, I didn't want to sleep. I wanted to keep listening to my new CDs as many times possible. I had never heard anything like this in my life. Before exhaustion took over I told myself I must not let the man selling these wonderful CDs get away without selling me the other two he had available! All I knew was, that I was slapped by so much inspiration that it literally hurt. Something long lost and dead inside me was reborn the night before. I saw so many images that needed to be created as a result of listening to this music. Midnight Syndicate became my instant muse. Soundtrack for the Imagination Indeed!
This review has little to say about particular tracks, but rather the over all emotion of experiencing this band's music for the first time in my own home. The peace I felt(despite the dark nature of the music). The mental images of my own yard haunt that hit me randomly in an almost *Field of Dreams* way so entangled that I had to built it to put the pieces together. Not to mention the images that came to me to simply put to canvas. I hadn't had ANY thing like this in my life that moved me to be more creative in my own life. I am thankful for this band and I will forever be dedicated to it. Thank you Ed and Gavin....
Realm of Goth.......2006-11-29
"Realm of Shadows" (2000) is Midnight Syndicate's second dose of "haunting orchestrations and sinister sound effects (creating) a dark, gothic soundscape." Having purchased all of their CDs (twice - for work and personal use) and using their music (with their permission, of course) as soundtracks for our local Halloween haunted attractions, I can honestly say that I will always be anticipating their next release.
As with "Born of the Night" (see my review), the production quality of this CD was outstanding. The music is stirring and the sound effects are realistic. The raven calls in track #9 "Ravens Hollow," the synthesized strings in track #12 "Spectral Mist," and the creaking timbers in track #20 "Harbored Souls" are particularly noteworthy. I actually prefer Syndicate's limited use of vocal effects, which normally come off as "cheesy" attempts to sound creepy. And once again, the bell tones in track #13 "Soliloquy" and track #21 "Eclipse" should have been digitally sampled instead of using tubular bells.
There are 21 selections totaling a little more than 52 minutes of music. Most of the tracks would have benefited from lengthening and building upon the base music and effects- they left me wanting more. The best tracks on this CD are #9 "Raven's Hollow," #10 "Beyond the Gates," #15 "Serpent's Lair," #19 "Witching Hour," and #20 "Harbored Souls."
As with their previous CD, this music begs to be played on a high-quality sound system, preferably one with some kick-butt subwoofers and enough power to handle this CD's wide dynamic range. Otherwise, listen with care on less-capable systems before you crank up the volume.
A beautifully crafted piece, both chilling and inspiring.......2005-04-20
Enter the realm where shadows lurk and nightmares reign. Beware of long passed souls unsettling before your eyes as you listen to the dark and eerie tale of Raven's Hallow.
A must have for those who want a chill with a little story in the mix.

Harris Should Be Better Recognized!.......2007-02-05
Mick Harris (who is better known for N.D. and Scorn) has had this side-project in Lull going for awhile now.
It really isn't music for the uninitiated. The grouping of this type of music under "Dark Ambient" is appropos. It's environmental drone music that sets a feeling of dread and almost despair with attentive listening. Getting down with Lull is like knowing some bad mojo is locked-and-loaded, with you targeted in the crosshairs. But maybe it isn't just you set for a monstrous fall; maybe it's bigger and on an epic scale where you, your friends and the whole world are unbalanced while walking a thin path overlooking the dark abyss.
Make no mistake, Lull is powerful music not to be used as mere background noise. It's a transforming music that morphs your mood and seeps into your soul.
Yeah, there are other projects that claim dark ambient content; but they might be better off paying homage to the master.

21 Years Later, Still Good.......2007-05-08
I originally bought this album on tape back in 1986. I listened to it until the tape was thin and ready to snap. Then I didn't listen again for 20 years.
I was surprised to find that it's STILL a very good album. They were doing things electronically that no one else was doing and no one is really doing right now.
Southern was my favorite song back then (voice-overs were big in the late '80s). Listening to it now makes me wish for more historical voice-over songs. To this day, it is still an excellent song.
It's apparent why most of the band left after this one.......2005-12-31
The Pacific Age, while not completely devoid of substance, finds OMD watching the cutting edge fade in the rear view mirror, replaced with slickly produced pop that struggles to be relevant. "The Pacific Age," "The Dead Girls," and "Southern" are standout tracks. "Forever (Live and Die)" with lead vocals by Paul Humphreys is charming and melodic but maybe not as compelling as some of his older songs like "Souvenir" and "Never Turn Away." Those four tracks would have made a four-star EP, but instead those songs are bundled with a larger amount of filler, from the annoying, throbbing disco of "We Love You," to obvious throw-away tracks like "Stay," "Goddess of Love," "Shame," and "Watch Us Fall." Out of all the releases by OMD's original lineup, this is definitely the weakest.
OMD at their peak - there is no better CD from this group.......2002-08-13
It is truly a shame that this Album was never re-released in the US after the CD boom. It is also amazing how difficult it is to find overall as it spawned one of OMD's biggest hits: (Forever) Live & Die. There's not a bad track to be found here, and though it is still a product of the time, the music does not feel dated a decade & a half later. Not too many other snyth-pop bands of the 80's have weathered the test of time, nor have all of OMD's other releases.
The main reason why the CD stands up is the flow from song to song. The transition from upbeat (Stay) through melodic ((Forever) Live & Die & The Pacific Age), to more emotional (The Dead Girls, Shame, Southern, and Flame of Hope), and back (Goddess of Love & We Love You), and a great closing song (Watch Us Fall), few albums flow from start to end as well.
I was estatic to finally find a Marketplace seller with this CD in stock. Overall, a highly recommended listen.
Excellent times 3.......2001-11-06
Beautiful songs: strong melodies and hooks of broken hearts, angst, love lost and more l'amore! The music is mature new wave- and that's a good thing!
I won't comment on the songs individually, as I would be remiss to leave out any of these great tunes. Each song stands well enough on its own, but the album is best enjoyed when you listen to it in its entirity.
Pacific Age started out as being my wife's, but I have become hooked on it, playing it countless times.
Mushy ain't it?
A classic work of 80's pop.......2000-05-21
I search for the words to describe the mixture of orchestral arrangement and electronic pop, that the traditionally synth / electronic pop only band has achieved. Every track is a winner - with immense depth of sound, and the usually strong lyrics. For owners of other OMD material, you will not be disappointed in the least. "(Forever) Live And Die" is the highlight, and it was the major hit from the album. "The Dead Girls", a sad and sombre track, really shows off OMD's arrangement skills, as does the setting of the famous Martin Luther King speech to music in "Southern".
If you do not own any OMD music, then perhaps the "Best Of" compilation is the place to start. If you already own that, then this is a definite number one to buy next. The other contenders must the "Crush" as well as "Architecture & Morality", although every album is a masterpiece. This is my top rated album of the 80's. Get it.
