Tiamat at their venemous best.......2000-03-21
If you just started listening to Tiamat, circa Wildhoney or Deeper Kind of Slumber, and think that is Tiamat's sound, you might as well just not even bother getting this album. However, if you're into pure death metal that sounds like shards of glass being driven into your ears, this album is for you. The guitars are way beyond distorted, the drums keep the tempo at about 250 beats per minute and the vocals are lurched and vomited forth in speedy precision. Nothing against their other albums, I think they're all great, but if you really want to hear Tiamat, pick up Summerian Cry.

This is a semi necro black metal ablum. A essential for old Treblinka/early Tiamat fans. Not for the Dimmu/filth followers, real old school darkness. First and last pure black metal ablum from Tiamat.
A Musthave for Fans.......1999-05-20
If you like Tiamat, You definitely have to get this album right now, it is the perfect begining for Tiamat (Although They had made other things with another name) to go from pure black metal, to wha they are today. I realy recomend that you get it now.

Tiamat's debut still shines today.......2000-08-23
This is TIAMAT's first Album ( it wasn't released after Wildhoney, the other one that made a review thinks this way proberbly because the DIGIPACK-EDITION was released after Wildhoney ). It shows that Johan Elund ( aka Hellslaughter ) and .... ( aka JUCK???? ) were a great band from the beginning of their career. Sure, if you think that this sounds like Wildhoney or even Clouds you are certainly wrong. You can hear the influences of swedish-death-metal throughout the whole record ( Entombed and so on ) but Tiamat manged to set themselves apart with their ability of deep and dark songwriting. "Nocturnal Funeral", "Apothesis of Morbidity"(killah song title) "Where the Serpents ever dwell", "Evilized" (contains a bar piano!) and "The Mallicious Paradise" are my favorites on this album. Johan mostly growls like any deathmetal singer should, but even on this early release, he gives his voice a dark intensity, Glenn Benton wouldn't dare to dream of. Listen to him whisper the chorus of "The Mallicious Paradise" or desperately scream the semi-accustic part in "Nocturnal Funeral" and you will agree. This album has it's own dark and grim charme and that special taste most modern black-metal releases lack. The music sounds sinister and through the sound quality is terrible, it delivers more darkness than any other DM Album I have heard. If you are a fan of Tiamat than I think you should at least have heard this album. P.S. Why hasn't that DIGIPACK the orginal coverartwork. It was one of the most beautiful they ever had! People don't know what art is....
Cry from Tiamat's ancient past..........1999-07-27
Given that this album returns to Tiamat's death metal past, "Sumerian Cry" is an apt name. A band that always has had been willing to experiment, Tiamat has jumped from the Floydesque psychedelia of "Wild Honey" to the grinding thunder and roaring death grunts that hard-core fans are sure to love, and that old school metal-heads, who have found that life is aggression enough, need a little more liqour to enjoy. The purists are probably happy, but the ancient kings of Ur and Edam are likely rolling in their graves.
