Supergroup release that doesn't meet expectations........2006-05-21
Supergroups are a hit and miss affair. On one hand, bands like Arcturus and Bloodbath started off as supergroups and turned out to be consistently excellent projects for the members involved. Other times, supergroups release one album relying upon the names involved rather than quality inspired music, and then disappear. Nightrage are somewhere in between.
There is absolutely nothing original about Nightrage. It is simply solid melodic aggressive thrashy death metal that hints at a thousand other bands. Yes, it's tight, well produced and filled with nice riffs and the always quality vocals of Tomas Lindberg. But it's nothing we haven't heard before and a little stale in this overflooded market.
I must admit that I quite enjoy listening to it, in particular when they play with an "At the Gates" style of heaviness such as the album opener "Being Nothing" and "Omen". But there are simply too many other unique and creative bands around for this to get much play time. I might as well listen to At the Gates or In Flames at their peak and I'd cover all the bases Nightrage come close to. If you've got money to burn and you're a fan of the bands I've mentioned, then by all means, there's nothing bad on this release. For the more selective, move along.

NIGHTRAGE - Descent into Chaos
-
Thomas Lindberg's latest offering to the music community is the Swedish and Greek mix called Nightrage. This album actually being my first offering to the band I was unsure what to expect. Like most I am a big fan of ATG and Lindberg's harsh vocal styles.... Nightrage however came as a pleasant surprise. (As in it wasn't, yet another, ATG Clone) They seem to have more Melody than Thrash but definitely embody aspects of both genres.... The Haunted, where the former ATG Guitar Players are now located, seemed have gone with more Thrash then Melody. (Which is odd since they actually have ATG's Guitar Players?)
Anyway, Enough Comparisons! Nightrage is really decent for a newer band in an over saturated scene... Amazing guitar work and one of the genres best Vocalist makes this CD well worth a couple of listens. Also I've only given this album 2 spins at the current time and stuff like this usually grows on repeated listens.
Favorite Songs: Being Nothing, Phantasma, Omen, and Descent into Chaos.

Absolutely righteous!!!.......2005-12-22
Great musicianship and well throughtout lirycs. It's brilliant, original, melodic, fast and vicious. Weel done melodies, incredible solos. Can't go wrong with this one!!
Awesome Metal.......2005-09-19
As the reviewer below me says, this does remind me of Arch Enemy's melodic guitars. Nightrage's latest album here has riffing guitars and solos from start to finish. Being Nothing was the first song I ever heard by these guys, off of a second disc from Napalm Death's latest album. The first time I listened to this album, I was very impressed. After listening to this, I decided to get their last album, Sweet Vengeance. These guys are definitely one of my favorites out there right now, ranking with Arch Enemy, Shadows Fall, Trivium, and Killswitch Engage. Now I know how those other bands sound, but I'm an all around rocker, I listen to just about any type of rock (except punk/emo). If you love metal with crunching guitar solos and heaviness, then this will make an excellent addition to your collection! Once again, I cannot decide which song is my favorite, every song on this outing is amazing!!!!

Customer Reviews:
Nightrage top their 1st release.......2005-06-23
Nightrage's 1st CD "Sweet Vengence" was a great melodic death metal CD, but it seemed like the songs lacked focus a little. Although the songs were good, there wasn't really a consistent sound and it kind of left me wondering where they were headed. "Descent Into Chaos" is much tighter and shows that the band is pushing towards the heavier end of the melodic death sound. While their 1st CD had both great and so-so songs, "Descent Into Chaos" is amazing from start to finish. To me Tomas Lindberg's voice has always been just o.k., but the foundation of Nightrage is the songwriting and guitar work of Marios Iliopoulos and Gus G. All of the songs are good but check out Being Nothing, Phantasma, Poems, Descent Into Chaos, Jubilant Cry, Reality Vs. Truth, and the excellent instrumental Solus for highlights. In my opinion this is the 2nd best metal CD this year behind Dark Tranquility.
Very heavy and fine Death metal.......2005-06-22
If you like Death Metal then this is a band you want to pick up. They have heavy fast and great at what they do. Also be sure to check out there first CD Sweet Vengeance.
Nice.......2005-06-08
The guitars remind me of the old Arch Enemy days for sure (mainly the good riffs and solos off Burning Bridges and Wages of Sin). I've always dug this style of play.
Melodic Greco-Swedish Death Metal!!.......2005-04-28
This is the second album from Nightrage. If you didn't know this band has an estellar lineup. In vocal we got the legendary Tomas Lindberg (ex-At the Gates), in guitars we got a couple of Greek guitarist Gus G, and Marios Iliopoulos both of them taking care of business in the shredding department. Just those three make up a great band. Now to the album. This is a much more intense album than the last one. More diverse and more melodic. Their is no way that anybody is going to get bored with this album. The whole album just explodes in your head over and over again. The band has stepped a side in the clean vocals unlike their first album, their is only one track with clean vocals, which Michael Stanne (Dark Tranquillity) takes care of. Tomas Lindberg sounds better than ever, better since At the Gates glorious album Slaughter of the Soul. Don't worry about the drumming because lots of double bass to keep the intesity.
The whole album is complete with surprises in every corner. This is a fastpaced mind blowing heavy metal album. That any fan should have in their collection.
