Not Great, But Fun.......2006-09-20
An EP recording with only 4 songs on it is not usually begging for people to line up and buy it. Finding out that these are pretty much just remakes and covers is also not necessarily the best marketing technique...
Unless you are David Lee Roth. Then you can pull it off. These songs are a fun mix and are good choices to have playing in the background at your party, especially if you're somewhere warm. The other side is that it shows the diversity of Roth's influences and roots. I would not dub this as the greatest CD of all time, but it's one that people seem to enjoy.
David Lee Roth - 'Crazy From The Heat' (Warner Bros.) 3 1/2 stars.......2006-09-16
Only reason I'm giving this over-priced four track EP as high as rating as I have,is because EVEN after twenty-plus years, these tunes are actually still fun to listen to,believe it or not. I'm one to USUALLY avoid most CD singles,EP's,etc. Keep in mind this is Roth's first post-Van Halen outing. Always have and probably always will dig the videos Roth made for "Just A Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody" and his Beach Boy's cover of "California Girls". The other two cuts "Coconut Grove" and "Easy Street" are good summer time tunes as well. Party on! Enjoy.
This is in response to Moron Robert J. Usher's idiotic review........2006-06-23
Hey Robert, you Idiot! Dave did not rip off Louis Prima or the Beach Boys! The songs on this album are "Covers" you Moron! A few of the Original Beach Boys even did guest, back-up vocals on the California Girls "Cover"! If they were cool enough to sing back-up, how can you call it a Rip-Off??? This is a cool, 4 "Cover"-song EP. Its not Awesome, but it is very decent. Dave's versions of all of these songs, have become fond memories, in their own right. In fact, yes, many people do associate Just a Gigalo/I Ain't Got Nobody with Diamond Dave, far more than they do Louis Prima & Co. cause, guess what? Dave's version flat out blows Louis' away! That, and you just don't hear a whole lot of Louis Prima nowadays. . . I suppose you feel that Hendrix ripped off Dylan with All Along the Watch Tower & the Beatles ripped off Chuck Berry with Roll Over Beethoven. Jeeze, give me a break!
Louis Prima COVERED JUST A GIGOLO???.......2006-04-07
Whoever wrote that idiotic sentence -- be advised -- David Lee Roth's rendition of "Just A Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody" was a word-for-word, note-for-note, nuance-for-nuance ripoff of a record that Louis Prima, Keely Smith, and Sam Butera recorded in the 1950's. Just as Roth ripped off the Beach Boys with 'California Girls', so did he rip off Louis Prima. Most karaoke junkies today only remember the David Lee Roth ripoff. Just goes to show how ignorant the average American record buyer (or voter for that matter) is today.
A sign of great things to come.......2005-06-04
When you listen to every Van Halen record from 1979 - 1984, you hear traces of David Lee Roth's happy-go-lucky, lounge singer-type style throughout every song, and that's highlighted in this "Crazy From The Heat" 4-song EP. One gets the sense, when you listen to it, that Roth is trying to say "YES!! I'M FREE!!" in every song. And who can blame him? By the time VH's album "1984" came out, Roth had begun to notice that everybody else in the band was steering away from the fun musicical style that he liked so much & going into a more serious direction, causing him to leave the band and launch his solo career. This EP was the result of that effort. And what a good first effort it was!!
After the last song, "Coconut Grove," you were left asking "Is that all?" Fans would have to wait another year to get that answer, and they wouldn't be disappointed. It would only get better.

Customer Reviews:
A bargain collection of showtunes.......2005-08-19
This bargain collection of showtunes is highlighted by the composition of Kurt Weill and the uniquely rolling tongue of Colette Lyons. I have a complaint about this compilation. It includes "Ol' Man River", but it excludes Al Jolson's rendition of "Ol' Man River." Otherwise, this collection gives you ample bang for your buck.

Customer Reviews:
A strange experience..........2003-11-03
They're both brilliant violinists but in very different genres, and Menuhin by his own admission never learned to improvise (unlike many of today's classical performers): he was trained in the post-Liszt, pre-jazz window when improvisation had died out in classical music and even cadenzas followed the score strictly (if Beethoven didn't write one, play Kreisler's). And it shows, rather painfully. He achieves a brilliant tone but that's about it: he plays these Broadway tunes completely "straight", and any student could do that equally well.
The CD is worthwhile for its curiosity value, but you'd get much better musical value buying Grappelli's jazz and Menuhin's classical recordings separately.
Menuhin&Grappelli.......2002-08-17
Music just does not get any better than this CD! I am a musician and hearing these two artists is a thrill. This is a CD for all music lovers. You will not be sorry if you purchase this CD
always a winning pair.......2001-01-29
You simply can't go wrong with a combination of two of the most talented violinists of our time. This cd is a wonderful showcase for them both and the choice of music is the greatest classics. It's a fun, winner of a cd.

Amazing.......2005-03-17
I recently heard an excerpt from this CD on the radio. I immediately purchased the CD and found it to be a collection of music that is superbly played on an instrument that I haven't heard in years. It is a welcome addition to my CD collection. I have listened to it several times and highly recommend it.
Don Angle Rocks With His Spirited Harpsichord!.......2004-09-26
If you have been deprived of the genius of Don Angle until now, you are in for a treat! His latest CD, "Yes Indeed!" offers the most scrumptious sampling of instrumental music ever recorded. Don has selected very classy tunes from Quincy Jones, the Bee Gees, Stephen Foster, Nino Rota and John Phillip Sousa to bring alive his shockingly spirited harpsichord, yes I said harpsichord! His brilliant arrangements begin with the joyful Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah and include beloved traditional songs, Don's signature Boogie, and three more luscious Don Angle creations, including his title song "Yes Indeed!" If you have long been a Don Angle fan, as I have, then you already know the thrill of his unique arrangements as he makes his harpsichord "rock!" New to Don Angle's world, or devoted fan, you will want to have this CD sound in your life. Yes Indeed!
