gov flu.......2006-11-10
I like hardcore & death metal & I like the Circle Jerks & the Dead Kennedys. Jello Biafra, Dead Ks, is on the freedom of speech track, so I checked it out. Biafra's a cartoon today, but I loved this album. The musical force blended with the political statements and the deadly accurate aim of twisted humor would give the Cohen brothers ideas.
Ice MotherF*ck*n' T, B******tch.......2006-07-25
I am white. I hate rap. I love Body Count. best tracks include body count's in the house, body count, now sports, the winner loses, voodoo, kkk b*tch, body count anthem, and of course... COP KILLER
i know they don't sell it with cop killer anymore but listen to me, it is the best song you will ever hear in your life. I follow it's example often and i'm tellin you it feels good to stick it to the man in such an extreme manner.
buy this album, or steal it, whatever.
Suprisingly Kick ass Hard core from Ice T.......2006-06-03
I'd never heard Body Count before just recently. Of Course when I was a kid I'd heard of the song "Cop Killer" thought it to be some lame piddling gangsta rap garbage I hate with a blood boiling rage. Yet going about on the internet I saw a song "Cop Killer" by Body Count I was like who the hell is Body Count? So I played it. It was one of the most kick ass songs I'd heard in a long time I got chills up and down my spine. I went to find out about this group and what I found out suprised me. It was Ice T's Hard core Metal band. What? So it wasn't gangsta rap but a metal song. I had to hear more. I loved it. I bought this album and haven't regreted it. It is one of the best metal albums I have. Its just aggressive and driving all the way through to the end. It sucks that the record company bowed to the lifestyle facists and took the song "Cop Killer" off of it. Look I don't agree with the cop killing stuff and no sane person would. This whole album is over the top and the muisicians in this band like Ernie C. have been way over looked. But even without "Cop Killer" its still a head banging album. Pick up this album now.
One of the best metal rap albums ever recorded.......2005-12-31
I support Freedom of Speech and freedom of speech means Freedom of speech. I was fortunate enough to obtain a copy with "Cop Killer" before the controversy. Now with the releases by Eminem and 50 Cent- the ban of the song "Cop Killer" is hypocritical. I took Law Enforcement with the intention to become a police officer and I can distinguish between fiction and reality. Ice-T is speaking about a increasing problem in society. There are many police officers being killed in the line of duty and it is hearbreaking and my thoughts and prayers are with the families of the murdered officers. Anyway, the Body Count album includes great songs "There Goes the Neighbourhood and The Winner Loses".
This album is great- but I would try to get the original version with "Cop Killer" on the cd. Perhaps, the record label will reissue the album because with 50 Cent and Enimen pushing the envelope- this ban seems hypocritical.
Body Count - self-titled (Sire).......2005-12-31
Remember when this CD has caused SO much trouble for the label, band and ANY record store that would dare to carry the disc. Then, all copies were recalled and re-released MINUS the notorious track "Cop Killer".Yeah,it's all history now,but I went to see Body Count with Ice-T when both bands did their seperate set and all patrons HAD to pass a metal detector.Talk about a concert-first.With or without the cut, this self-titled CD is a must-have for any and all true metal fans. Some of the better cuts are "Body Count's In The House","BBK B*tch","There Goes The Neighborhood" and "Freedom Of Speech".Recommended.

Album Description
Errol Morris' adroitly assembled documentary film "The Fog of War" examines the career of Robert S. McNamara-- United States Secretary of Defense during the Kennedy and Johnson Administrations and whose tenure includes the Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crises. Combining excerpts from 26 hours of interviews with McNamara, archival footage, filmed recreations, as well as newly declassified White House recordings Morris' filmmaking illuminates a national past that ominously parallels the contemporary political present. Morris reveals what previous biographies failed to investigatethe relationship between McNamara and the infamous United States General Curtis LeMay and their involvement in the firebombing of Tokyoalong with 67 other Japanese citiesin 1945. Errol Morris states "The easy thing to say would be McNamara is a bad guy, he did all these bad things...the story is more complex and far more interesting than I imagined. The disturbing thing is that this was a man with real ethical dimension who did something terrible."
As with music previously contributed to Morris' films, Philip Glass' score to "The Fog of War" effortlessly supports and enhances the film. The music, at times lyrical and at other times intense, deepens the horrifying images of war, highlighting the ambiguities of McNamara's characterand the consequences of his actions. Glass' music reinforces Morris' effort to understand the difficult ethical questions about governing and power raised by "The Fog of War".
Album Description
The acclaimed composer's score to the 2003 documentary by Errol Morris, their third collaboration. The film is subtitled ''11 Songs From The Life of Robert S. McNamara. Orange Mountain Music.
Customer Reviews:
(G)lassy.......2007-07-28
Some people hear things others never do. Of these, a few write them down. Of these, a small number create a theme and variations upon it that cohere and enthrall.
Philip Glass belongs to this minute group of human beings. Fortunately for us, recorded music exists to make his work available to all and at any time. His soundtrack for the Errol Morros documentary on Robert McNamara is a lesson in how to create film music that unobtrusively ups the ante of the film it graces.
Glass' score both intensifies and accelerates the movie. It is nearly impossible for one not to experience a quickened pulse when Glass pulls together--of all things, a snare drum, a bit of low brass, and a flute.
Ah, that flute. It floats in and out of track after track, bereft of its customary vibrato, a penetrating, entrancing reminder that something serious is going on in the film. It is a masterful use of a small, metal pipe. At the command of Glass, the humble flute and its younger brother the piccolo punch considerably above their weight.
Who could write such a work? Probably only Philip Glass.
The movie's pretty good, too.
Excellent.......2006-08-09
Intriguing historical account of MacNamara- what he was thinking, what he did not say during two administrations involved in the Viet Name war. Use of film footage and Philip Glass' eerie and ominous soundtrack further developed the power of this film.
The film was great, but the score made it outstanding. .......2004-08-05
Ever thought about what it would be like to watch a film with no muscial score? I have and I did for this documentary. Believe me when I write this, there's no way this film would have been as good without Glass' melodic brutality looming in the background.
Glass does something wonderful with this score; he gives war, uncertainty, doubt and fear a musical element, an audible personality that captures each bomb, burnt building and ominous threat in complete perfection, leaving your ears and your mind in a state of disbelief and amazement, thinking to yourself, "Wow, that music fits this segment like a glove."
The Thin Blue Line score made me an instant Glass fan but this score made me borderline Glass fanatic.
In my opinion, he surpasses Carter Burwell in the category of most unflinching film composer.......by a long shot.
A Great Soundtrack for a Great Film.......2004-05-24
Errol Morris is the best documentary film maker ever and The Fog of War is his crowning achievement. The film explores the complexity of war and how it evolves. There is no political bias or agenda here...just plain truth and facts. Great work. Equal to the task is Phillip Glass's soundtrack. The music is haunting and eerie.
ANOTHER GREAT GLASS SCORE!.......2004-03-31
I'll keep this review short, just like the length of the pieces on the CD. This is yet another great score by Glass, and superbly recorded as well. Glass uses his classic strings and percussion to great effect and oftentimes great surprise as well.
This score has more variety than Glass's score for another Morris film, "The Thin Blue Line". By the way, will "The Thin Blue Line" ever get released on DVD?
The pieces are all short ones, which makes it an easier listen for Glass newbies I would imagine, but I would have preferred a few longer pieces- all the short pieces make it sound like "Glass fragments"- on some pieces once Glass gets going he has to come to a stop.
Still, I wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful CD!

The Uncensored Version of Body Count.......2003-02-19
I am one of Ice-T fans and is sadly to see that there is a censoring of one of the song which is called 'Cop Killer'. I know it might not be good to play this song in front of the policemen, but still is a classic song for the Ice-T fans. They shouldn't banned the song. Those who got the first release version which got the song 'Cop Killer', don't ever loose it as it is now consider 'a priceless album'. Those who got the second release version, sorry to say that this was the censored version without the song 'Cop Killer'. I hope internet do have this song for downloading, so that you will not miss this classic song.

Body Count - 'Born Dead' (Virgin).......2005-02-19
'Born Dead' was the band's second out of three CD's they put out.I remember all the controversy surrounding the single of their previous effort.Sort of made me question the meaning of 'free speech' in the USA.Notice that on this platter,Body Count makes the full transition over to heavy thrashcore.'Born Dead' is a bootie-kicking twelve track disc that,in SOME ways are better(at least I thought)than their first record.Never liked rap at all,but THIS - rap/metal is,well it's got plenty of life to it.Hard not to at least appreciate it to some degree.Tunes I thought were good include "Killing Floor",their Hendrix cover "Hey Joe","Shallow Graves","Sweet Lobotomy" and "Drive By"(amazed this tune didn't cause any problems).Line-up:Ice-T:vocals,D-Roc&Ernie C-guitars,Mooseman-bass and Beatmaster V-drums(R.I.P.).Don't disturb too many neighbors playing it.
Another Solid Body Count Album.......2004-08-29
For me Ice-T is one of the best rappers ever and I've spent long hours listening to his hardcore gangster rap. Kind of odd for a middle-aged white guy but what can I say? His in your face, pro-freedom of speech attitude is one that I hold myself. He is one of the founding fathers of gangster rap and one of its most innovative lyricists. The heavy metal band Body Count allows Ice-T to really roar with energy and creative expression. I've seen Body Count live 4 times. With the release of their first two albums they played shows at Hammer Jacks in Baltimore, MD and a small venue called the 9-11 club in Washington, DC. I friend and I made both shows each time. Ice-T and Body Count put on a tremendous performance.
Born Dead follows up the controversial Body Count debut with a very solid and entertaining CD. This CD contains one of the most outstanding remakes of Jimmy Hendrix's song Hey Joe I have ever heard. It's fabulous. The hard driving Body M/F Count is such a short tune it's hard to call it a song but it gets my adrenaline pumping every time I hear it.
This is another 4 star effort by Body Count and all the songs are entertaining.
Body M/F Count *
Necessary Evil *
Hey Joe **
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ratings: CDs are rated simply by how many good songs are on the album. Great songs get two stars, and good songs get one star. Songs that get no stars are those that I might like but not enough to give it a star or ones I find boring or actively dislike. CDs are not penalized for songs that I don't like because they are easy enough to skip over. There is no maximum number of stars a CD can get, but of course the more stars it gets, the better the CD.
As with all reviews, these are my subjective opinions on the album.
INSANE THRASHCORE !!!!.......2004-06-16
On this album,Ice switches to a thrashcore style lovers of the style will go mad about. The songs are mega fast, with furious social lyrics and full of hatred. If you're into thashcoreand dig bands like Ratos De Porao, get this one at once.It suffers from some degree of dynamic compression though, but if you can correct that,it'll blow your brains againt the nearest wall.
light like DeBussy, with overtones of Stravinsky.......2000-09-22
I was very often moved to tears by "Body Count". Not since the Beatles has anything been so refreshing, nay startling, in its efferescence and unadulterated musical joy. I think Mr. Ice should consider moving into the realm of modern Gospel music, such is the depth and profundity of his glorius music. If I were getting married, I can think of no more appropriate music for a wedding march or, for that matter, great background music for the honeymoon night. Mr. Ice has, with this record, taken his rightful place with Errol Garner, Hoagy Carmichael,Irving Berlin Leonard Bernstein and the like as one of this century's truly immortal composers. I played the record at a recent meeting of the Proud Young Americans For Truth and was completely overcome by the exhaust fumes issuing from all the dead bodies bubbling up out of the swamp. Oh, the beautiful melodies!! Oh, the emotion!! Oh, the oil plug on a 1965 Volkswagon "bug". Mr. Ice should be President of the United States in my opinion. No one could possibly be more qualified. This record has changed my life forever. Mr. Ice will, no doubt, soon be canonized and take his proper place with St. Francis and Mother Teresa. Every family in the U.S. should be required by law to play this record before dinner every night. Just think of the positive effect it would have on the youth of America!!! Pass me the beaker, Dr. Foley, if you please. I'll have to stop here. I am overcome with emotion just thinking about the illustrious Mr. Ice's gorgeous recording and my tears are starting to short out my computer keyboard. Oh the humanity!!!! Oh the humanity!!!!

Maybe Ice-T was trying hard to infuriate and offend when he put together Body Count's Violent Demise: The Last Days, but he should have spent a bit more time on the riffs and lyrics. Sure, "Interview," which features a vignette about a journalist being executed for dissing the band (gulp!), and "Strippers," which includes the scintillating chorus "Strippers, I want my dick sucked," are both disturbing, but the puerile prurience hardly obscures the group's second-rate songwriting. Throughout the album, Ice-T moans and barks above repetitive, second-hand guitar lines, and even when the rapper lambastes O.J. Simpson on "I Used to Love Her," he fails to say anything even mildly thought-provoking. --Jon Wiederhorn

Rap Metal fans this is your CD.......2002-01-15
This CD is absolutely off the hook! Heavy,Soft,Funny, Intelligent, and absolutely HARDCORE. There some incredible guitar riffs on this CD,kinda Rage Against the Machine sounding but they add a little speed metal too. I just love blasting the songs in my car down the highway. If the lyrics weren't so explicit, Body Count would be a regular on radio stations, but Ice-T keeps it real. He doesn't compromise his art for a cheap buck. If you are a rap metal fan don't miss out on this CD.

C*p K*ller???.......2007-04-08
All the tracks here are album versions except for the legendary "Cop Killer" which is, understandable, very heavily censored. An interesting find if you can get it for a few dollars (the "radio" version of "Cop Killer" is unintentionally hysterical) but not worth collectors prices unless you really believe that early 90's rap/metal crossover is a collectible market.

Not as good as their older albums.......2007-01-30
I love Body Count. These guys aren't some novelty band; they're the real deal. Unfortunately, Murder 4 Hire doesn't hold up to their previous albums. I'm not saying it's bad, because it's not. Most of the song writing is excellent, but it lacks in other areas (i.e. "Relationships"). I still recommend you buy the album though. Body Count needs its fans' support more than ever!
"Murder 4 Hire" (Body Count).......2006-11-10
After 10 years, thank God for a new album from Body Count. In my opinion, along with Bob Dylan's "Modern Times" and Neil Young's "Living With War", this is one of the most significant discs of the decade. Ice-T is as angry and refreshing as ever; "End Game" reminds me of the rage of Dylan's "Masters of War" from the '60's. The merging of hard core gansta rock and roll with outrage on behalf of those humans that don't believe politics is worth killing and dying for has been desperately needed for these times. I was a little disappointed that the final number is an instrumental, but the album holds up extremely well to repeated listening and I am grateful that Body Count has survived despite the loss of several key members. Their (and Ice-T's) signature mix of deadly seriousness and humor remains intact and the nonpolitical songs are as over the top as ever. An instant classic that will stay the test of time.
God awful.......2006-09-29
I'd call myself a pretty big Bodycount fan, and most people I know think that BC are a joke and ask me how I can like them. The first three discs were excellent. I like "Drive By", "Bowels of the Devil" "Dead Man Walking" as my favorite songs from their first 3 albums which were excellent. This disc, man I remember buying BC Violent Demise the day it came out the same with Born Dead when it came out, and I don't feel anything at all for this disc. I'll probably never listen to this disc again except out of obligation to the fact that I bought it, so that it would be alongside my other BC cds. The mixing is painfully bad, so much so that it interferes with all enjoyment of the disc. There is no guitar prescence whatsoever. The drum sound sounds almost like it was played on an electronic kit than a beefy live sound. Ice-T's vocals are way, way, WAY too loud in the mix. Which is unfortunate because it doesn't complement the songs, it just makes you real, real, sick of Ice after a few minutes. He's cool when he's talking about politics and terror and other street topics, but when there are more and more songs per BC album where Ice T is crooning/singing literally off key about trying to get girls, it makes you real embarassed for him that the song got that bad. Back to the production, whoever was at the mixing board on this disc was high. Everything about this release stinks "Bad bootleg" including the horrible cover art, but sad but true, we waited 8-9 years for a new album that was a total disappointment.
This Ain't No SVU!.......2006-08-12
There's a new Body Count album out, but no one seems to know or care. That's rather sad coz these guys are a true original and have been more influencial on music than one might guess. The whole rap in metal thing is so prevelant now that it's hard to even remember the time when the two genres were like oil and water. Sure, rap creeped into rock/metal a few times. We had Anthrax, The Beastie Boys, the Run DMC/Aerosmith crossover, but these tunes were done in the days of party rap and these songs were kinda light or silly. Not that that's a bad thing by any means, I still believe rap was at it's best before it started taking itself way too seriously. So, Body Count weren't the first ones to put rap into rock, but they did something quite unique. They took the gritty, urban street rap we're more familiar with today, and gave it the metal treatment. They took life on the streets and in the ghettos and put it in a language the metalheads understood and ultimately enjoyed. And it was an all black band fronted by a famous rapper. Though the debut album really didn't have any rapping on it at all, the attitude, the language and the feel of a rap album was present. Even today no one has done what Body Count did. All the rap/metal garbage out there is still white guys with dreadlocks who most likely grew up in suburbia. Body Count never really seemed to get any recognition for this, but just kinda fell by the wayside after their Copkiller controversy made them look more like a novelty in the public's eye. They released two more albums after that, but no one bought them. Even with the unfortunate deaths of three band memebers, Body Count return nearly ten years later with a new album, and still no one cares. This cd ain't selling worth a crap, and it's a real shame, especially when you take a look at the stuff that is selling right now. This is a good album. It's really like no time has passed. I was actually a bit afraid BC would go the numetal route with this one, but they didn't(another reason why it's probably going unnoticed). It's still Body Count's brand of thrash. Oh No!! It's even got guitar solos!! So why the 3 stars? It's got nothing to do with the songwriting. Ice-T and Ernie have written some killer tunes here. Not earthshattering or even much different than their previous albums, but I wouldn't want it any other way. The lower rating is for the sound quality. Whoever mixed this album should get the snot kicked out of them. The band sounds like they were recorded two rooms away from the studio Ice-T was recording in. Remember the good ol' days when the cd format was introduced? How you'd go and buy a Testament or Sepultura cd, and the sound on the cd was wafer thin? Sure you loved the album and hated the sound quality, but there was nothing you could do about it. Murder 4 Hire sounds like one of those old cds, and in this day and age of recording technology, there's simply no excuse for this. I find it hard to believe that this is what Ice-T wanted, especially after the heavy mix of the previous album. During the instrumental parts you have to turn up the volume about as loud as it can go to hear it, then when the vocals start you have to turn it down coz it's too damn loud. If I were Ernie C(or anyone else in the band for that matter), I'd be pissed. I know Ice-T being a rapper is used to being front and center in the mix, and that's fine, but I don't think it was so much him as it was a botched job in the mixing process. But then you gotta wonder, didn't they listen to this cd before deciding to release it? Hell, I mean someone had to have heard this album before it hit the presses! Honestly, if the guitars were turned up in the mix, this would be one heavy, speaker shakin' album. I'm still glad I got it though. I admire Body Count's determination to push on even if the world seems to leave them by the wayside. I liked them in 91, and I still like em now. And if you got respect for the band , this cd is at least worth a listen. Ice-T deserves that much, don't he?
*** Body Count back in the House ***.......2006-08-12
Although there was no certainty as to whether BC were going to be making any more records after the sad loss of D Roc (Rhythm Guitars) in 2004 and especially seen as this wasn't the first loss to hit the band as they also lost their first drummer Beatmaster V in 1997 and their bassist Mooseman was shot in a drive-by shooting in winter 2000 but through hell and high-water BC still manage to stay solid and make excellent albums somehow.
At last! Body Count make a return with the much anticipated `Murder 4 Hire', Ice T and Co (Ice T & Ernie C on guitars being the only originals) are back with another disk of quality rap-metal and believe me they do it best! Body Count changing the face of modern metal influencing the genre in the 90's by being the original Rap/Metal band.
This album features Body Count as they should sound but at the same time expand the horizons covering some personal subjects to religion, politics, war and terrorism, humour etc. The production is a little strange at first as the music seems a little thrown back over the vocals but more listens make you accustomed to this and from then on there's plenty to enjoy on the album, good stand-out tracks are `You Don't Know Me (Pain)', `Down in the Bayou', `Dirty Bombs' and `Relationships' even the outro `M. C's theme' is also an excellent instrumental track featuring some nice guitar work.
So, if you were a BC fan in the past and your not sure what they sound like now, have no fear they're still the band we know and love and if you haven't yet heard them and think you might like thm youi probably will. Buy it!

ICE T a true OG.......2007-02-18
Who is Bizarra the guy causing Mad Horrror on the first track?? Ive searched and searched for his identity. This Cd has a couple good tracks, a couple decent ones and the rest are forgettable...
body count has gone downhill progressively each release...I like this one ok, but Im not buying their newest one...
Some Excellent Songs.......2004-08-29
While Violent Demise, The Last Days does is really not as good as the previous albums for the most part, there are two of the hardest charging heavy metal songs you'll ever hear that are just fabulous and will blow your speakers out. And one very clever daring song.
This album garners 5 stars basically on the strength of 3 solid songs. The rest of the album is entertaining as well.
My Way **
Bring it to Pain **
You're F*** with BC *

Ratings: CDs are rated simply by how many good songs are on the album. Great songs get two stars, and good songs get one star. Songs that get no stars are those that I might like but not enough to give it a star or ones I find boring or actively dislike. CDs are not penalized for songs that I don't like because they are easy enough to skip over. There is no maximum number of stars a CD can get, but of course the more stars it gets, the better the CD.
As with all reviews, these are my subjective opinions on the album.
Some good songs... some VERY bad..........2004-08-19
Those of you who heard the legends of BODY COUNT, and those of you returning for a second (or 3rd helping) of Ice T's hardcore/metal band are in for a few great tracks... plus a lot of really bad ones. The 1st track "MY WAY" rules. it's harder than any of the songs off the other BC albums. Total NYHC type vibe w/ a little more rap. Hard as nails for sure. STRIPPER is good fun (lyrically), but musically not so much. DR K has the oldschool feel, and there's one more dceent song. The rest... not worth checking out. but get it for MY WAY alone... it's worth it!!!!
Well... The Other Body Count Stuff Is Much Better.......2001-04-03
Hmm... while the intro reminds of the cop-killer intro of the first cd, the rest kinda lacks the kicking vocals and music of the other 2 albums... the best song is "My Way" which is actually one of the best BC songs, also not bad are "You're Fu**in' with BC" and "Violent Demise", but still i miss the power and agression of the first 2 albums. so go for "Cop Killer (which now is censored and called "Body Count") or "Born Dead"
