Customer Reviews:
So many songs- so many old friends.......2007-05-28
I totally agree that Restless Heart sounds like Little Texas. Too funny...but I have always found I confuse their music.
Anywho....this is a great compilation CD. Restless Heart has some great tunes on here that I had totally forgotten about. From the hit That Rock won't roll- which just makes you want to dance, to the most touching of songs like Long Lost Friend with the sharp piercings sounds of heartbreak. Dancy's Dream has always been a favorite of almost anyone who is a RH fan, and it includes the sweet I'll still be loving you.
There are a whopping 16 songs on the CD with very little filler. There were songs here i never realized belonged to them, or had forgotten all together- like Why does it have to be wrong or right....what a fun song!
Not a great compilation of their best hits.......2006-02-19
Can anybody explain how "Til I Loved You" got left out of this compilation? Where is "Wheels"? I think "Mending Fences" would have made more sense than the inclusion of the last two songs. Save your money and download the tunes you want from elsewhere - this cd isn't worth the price, and is hardly all of Restless Heart's greatest hits.
Not Necessarily Country, But They Still Sound Great.......2005-02-27
I really wouldn't classify Restless Heart as a typical country group. Let's face it, when I hear the name "Restless Heart," I don't categorize them with country staples such as the Statler Brothers, Oak Ridge Boys, or even Alabama. I do see them fitting in somewhere along the lines of Little Texas and the Desert Rose Band, however.
This album is a great compilation for the casual fan and the hardcore Restless Heart listener. It includes all of their biggest radio hits like "The Bluest Eyes In Texas," "I'll Still Be Loving You," and "Why Does It Have To Be." It bridges the time when Larry Stewart was in the group to the time that he was out of it. The biggest hits minus Stewart are here("When She Cries" and "Dancy's Dream"). For some reason, "Mending Fences" is left off of this compilation, but I'll live.
I managed to see this group minus Stewart a few years ago when they were supporting their "Big Iron Horses" album. They were excellent. Their appeal was evident in the crowd that night, what with everyone from cowboys to preppies and even a few bikers roaming around.
Restless Heart was one of those groups who just played their own style of music. It wasn't really country, but then again, it really wasn't adult contemporary either. They snuggled up to both crowds and did it without changing their style. They didn't become popsters like Faith Hill because it brought in more money. They didn't have to change because they believed in their own music. That's a rare quality in the country scene these days, and I commend them for sticking to their guns.
Get this album if you enjoy groups like Little Texas, Desert Rose Band, maybe even the Eagles. Also, I think Diamond Rio and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band fans can appreciate these guys as well. Check them out.
Don't have to be a country fan for this.......2005-01-06
If you were to take a look, if you're not too busy, at my About Me page, or my reviews, you would quickly find out that I am a rock/metal guy. Country music just doesn't fit in there all that much. But my metal heart will always have a place for Restless Heart.
Growing up in the 80s, at my grandparents, they used to play country radio stations back when [country radio stations] played more traditional country music (traditional compared to today's pop-country), and Restless Heart could easily be heard on any given day. Basically, I grew up with most of these songs in the background of my life, at home, in the car, everywhere. And though I wouldnt call myself an avid RH fan I do know that this is some of the greatest music you will ever hear, in any genre of music. The melodies are of Eagles-esque variety, with tradional country and some pop music in just the right amounts. You can't explain how these songs come together so well, they just do and it's perfect. Vocalist Larry Stewart (and later John Dittrich, the drummer, who does a FANTASTIC job on "When She Cries" and "Tell Me What you Dream")give this great music a voice that soars and harmonizes. All I can say is that these songs take me back to my carefree days (yeah, I'm serious) and it's a great moment to be in. You have to love thier melodies.
Now about this compilation. What you get here is pretty much every RH song you need if you are only a passing fan such as myself. I would have liked to have seen "New York (Hold Her Tight)" on here but this is still a very solid collection by a very talented band. You also get some bonus unreleased tracks, my favourite being "No End To This Road" so all in all you get a great compliation for your hard earned dollar. Now put that dollar to some good use and pick this up. 13/16
phenomenal harmonies.......2004-11-23
I'm typically a bit of an old guy when it comes to music. I'll take Haggard over Chesney any day. So I shouldn't technically be writing to support a group that is more pop than country, but I am. I saw Restless Heart live recently, and their harmonies are the best in the business. The cuts on this greatest hits collection tend to sound over-produced, because the harmony makes the music sound so BIG... but it sounds the same in person, and I find that remarkable. These guys won my respect, and they're certainly responsible for some of the biggest crossover hits in the pre-Shania era. It's just good music.

Outstanding!!.......2004-11-09
This was when the group was at their best. Every song on this album could have been a Top 5 hit if released. New York Hold Her Tight is one of the most beautiful, haunting songs ever! The Boy's on a Roll and We Owned This Town are awesome as well!
Best there is........2000-09-10
Hey, this is a great cruisin' album. This is great country music, and I don't even like country! I can remember listening to this album when I was kid and loving it. It's great and I would recommend it to anyone.
excellent harmony and composition great acoustics.......1999-09-25
This cd was the beginning of a great career for them but of course when someone gets a big head they tend to drift from the real reason the group got together, to do what they enjoy and to make money. Wheels is a great song to cruise the highway with. It's "a movin down the road" song that makes me get there. All of the songs are great, I feel, and with 6 years of voice lessons, they harmonize superbly. Wish they were still around, including Larry Stewart. Too bad!! They had very good potential to be another Alabama if they had done their music with the same motives. I like 90% of their compostions on all the CD's even after Larry left.
This IS Restless Heart's Greatist Hits.......1999-02-02
Totally awsome! I've worn out the tape and now I'm ordering the CD. This is county rock at it's greatest. Every song on this one is a keeper.

Not quite up to standard.......2005-09-19
As an old fan of the band I have enjoyed listening to the
CD, but to get the best of Restless Heart, you absolutely have to go back to the old albums. The spark is not quite there anymore, Sorry!
Restlessly Irresistible .......2005-02-19
Prime Cuts: Every Fire, And More, Down the Road
Ever since its genesis, country music has always given articulation to the plebian. However, with the demise and/or lack of product from proletarian advocates such as Alabama, Shenandoah, Pirates of the Mississippi and Confederate Railroad, the voice of the everyday blue collar has been gagged. Kudos are in order to Koch Records for the foresight in signing one of the torchbearers of southern country Restless Heart. Déjà vu moments abound on "Still Restless:" even though it's been almost a dozen years since their last full length studio CD, everything we have come to love about Restless Heart is here. The Eagles-like harmonies, the propulsive 70s-tilted country rock anthems and most tellingly those story songs steeped with the concerns of southern living are all here in gregarious proportions. Larry Stewart, who has left the group for a moderately successful solo career yielding the top 20 hit "Alright Already," once again fronts the group and hits his stride in providing those engaging tenor dripped with those celebrated southern drawl.
Easily, the prized moment belongs to the ardent Mac McAnally penned ballad "Down the Road." Glazed with its southern charm, "Down the Road" tells the story of a parents' concern over the suitability of their future son-in-law in those "meet-the-parents" scenarios. Lines such as: "Mama wants to know if he's wash in the blood or the water/Daddy wants to know if he makes enough to take his daughter" are sure to bring smiles. As a footnote, Stewart in his solo endeavor had also cut this track, so has writer and producer McAnally. Similarly lacerating is "Every Fire," a John Scott Sherrill and Cathy Majeski ballad, this time with the protagonist at the throes of a breakup trying desperately to extinguish every flame of romance. Deftly written punctuated with heartfelt sentiments, "Every Fire" ranks loftily as other Restless Heart classics such as "A Tender Lie" and "(Mind Over) Matters of the Heart." Stewart does get romantic on his own composition "And More," a piano-based love song that is sure to woo the amorous.
Country radio, thus far, has picked up "Find My Way to You" and has already churned it into a top 40 hit. With its pulsating beat, its keening fiddling, and its sing-a-long melody, "Find My Way to You" bears all the marks of a Restless Heart hit. Perhaps a little less palpable is the bluesy "Looking Back" (the second of three Mac McAnally compositions). "Looking Back" with its rollicking piano and haunting harmonies is also a delight.
However, there are a few perfunctory fillers that are veering on the bromidic side. "What We Know Now," "Yesterday's News" and "The Night Before" are all average pop-country numbers with a late 80s/early 90s feel, deftly performed, yet they are not too memorable. However, unlike many country groups which have adulterated themselves to the banal bandwagon of meaningless clutter, Restless Heart still returns to their first dance: solidly penned pop-country offerings that tell indelible stories of the working man.
Still Restless after all these years.......2004-11-22
"Still Restless" is a must have for any music lover. Whether you listen to country, rock, or pop. There is such a variety of music on this CD that everyone will have at least one song they will fall in love with. The harmonies as always with these guys is untouchable. You have songs that will make you get up out of your chair and dance, some that will make you smile, some that really make you think...and yet others that may make you cry, or smile at that special love that you share with your significant other. Each and every time you listen, and I promise it will be over and over, you hear something a little different. Enjoy the best group ever in their reunion and if you like this CD, there are several others out there you can go back and purchase.
AWESOME Return to the Music Scene.......2004-11-14
The past 15 years have been well worth the wait for my absolute favorite band on earth to reunite and start making music again! I LOVE this new album. Their harmonies are better than ever. It is tough to choose a favorite song on the album, as I like them all. If I absolutely had to choose a favorite though, it would be Looking Back. It's got the old Restless Heart sound, mixed with a bit of the new. It's awesome! I would highly recommend this album to all the die-hard Restless Heart fans, as well as those who have never listened to them before. I assure this album will reunite old fans and introduce many new ones to the best band on earth!
Fantastic Comeback Album.......2004-11-10
The full band, all five members, are back together and sounding as great as ever. Their harmonies are unbeatable. The songs range from your traditional country sounding songs such as 'Down the Road' and 'Every Fire' to the more upbeat songs such as 'Makin' Hay', 'Same Boat Now' (a great feel good Patriotic tune) and 'Yesterday's News'. The remake of the Beatles tune 'The Night Before' is phenomenal and they pull it off very well, even sounding considerably like the Fab Five.
'Looking Back' and 'Feel My Way to You' could defintely be crossover Pop hits. Larry Stewart's vocals shine on 'What We Know Now' and 'And More'.
You will be very pleased with this album. The great Restless Heart is back and better than ever!!

Great rock with more blues!.......2007-06-27
All people know, David Coverdale is the Best rock singer, this cd is full of good songs, A. vandemberg plays very well, this is the cd for all people who like to listen a great rock!
The Best of the 90's!.......2005-07-21
This album takes me back to earlier whitesnake like slide it in or come and get it. it's just great simple rock but more bluesy and hard rock like before. Has great slow songs as well. Any fan
of Whitesnake would love this. The song Too Many Tears should've been a huge hit as well as the rocker woman trouble blues. I can't stop listening to it. get it now!
Coverdale back to his Solo Style: Not for Hair Metal Boneheads.......2005-07-10
This cd should be credited to David Coverdale....It has more in common w/ his 1977 Northwinds and 1976 White Snake solo records than any Whitesnake records of the 70's or 80's. Restless Heart is a mature, passionate, honest, introspective, beautiful and sincere release by one of rocks greatest talents.
Don't Fade Away could be a Bryan Ferry song.....beautiful harmonies w. female singer....baby making music! All in the Name of Love has same vibe. Restless Heart is a 'hard song' but more like light rock...I have great appreciation for Adrian V. on this record....his style comes through, not the "keep up w/ the Vai's and Viv's" approach I saw in concert in '87....Very tasteful and emotional playing....Too Many Tears is stunningly beautiful.....
If you are a 70's Coverdale fan you'll love this record...If you are a "Sleezy 80's stripper-chasing-reverse headstock airbrushed Jackson GIT lip pout clown w/ highlighted hair" (I obviously never went through that 'phase') you may want to go and do some research and move on at some point (ie. Coverdale was in a funky soulful Deep Purple, then went soulfully mellow on 2 criminally unknown solo LPs: who knew? you can close you mouth now:).
As a huge Coverdale fan that has all 16 of his studio releases Restless Heart is up there w. the best of them....check this record out..you'll be pleasantly surprised by it's depth and sophistication.
This album..........2003-12-22
Sucks... being a die-hard fan is one thing, but being objective is what's needed here. If this album was so awesome, why not released in the U.S.? It's where the big money is made if this album goes anywhere.
My heart bleeds.......2003-10-09
I must say that this CD is awesome... I am never tired of listen to it.. It is very romantic, but no commercial.. I recommend listening to it while being with the one you love, and you will see the magic and beauty of these songs.. Lyrics are also a masterpiece... Warning: When you will listen to this CD, your heart may bleed...

Though the songs are great let me explain the 3 stars.......2005-09-01
What they have done here is combined two Southside albums "The Jukes" and "Why Is Love Such A Sacrifice". Not a bad idea, especially since those are my two favorite Soutside albums, but they should have both been included in their entirety (double disc). You have some great cuts here: "Sacrifice", "All I Want Is Everything", "It Hurts", "On The Beach" and "Restless Heart", but what you're MISSING!!!!! "Murder", "Love When It's Strong", "Long Distance" and "Why" from Sacrifice and three masterpieces from "The Jukes": "Wait In Vain", "Paris" and "The Time" (not to mention the rocking "Your Reply" and "Security". Take it from me people--seek out the originals once you hear "The Time" you will wonder how such a song never propelled Southside to the stardom that he deserved.
classic southside.......2005-08-09
This album was originally called the Jukes and several of the tracks were different, I remember becuase I purchased the LP back in the summer of 1982. However they have taken a lot of good South Side Johnny tunes putting them all on one cd. i originally purchased this item because "vertigo" was always one of my favorite songs preformed by this band. However, they have included alot of other great Southside tunes like "SO Anxious". Although this was another jersey Shore group that did not achieve the kind of fame that Springstien did, Southside johnny is an extremely talented musician who never really received the notoriety he deserved. This is a moderately priced cd that is worth the money and certainly, if you experienced the excitement of the jersey shore as a high school or college youth, worth the listen as it brings back some fond memories. Highly recommended
What Bruce Could Have Been.......2003-07-26
This old set of cuts from SSJ contains some classic cuts -- Everything is one of the best along with Living in the Real World. He emerged from the Jersey Shore about the same time as Springsteen but never got to the level Bruce did. This and some of his later works show where Springsteen could have gone, while Bruce's material shows where SSJ never did go. There are a couple of cuts on this CD that don't quite make it but those that do -- head and shoulders above anything else to come out of Jersey. Listen to it and remember what Rock 'n Roll was supposed to be.
brassjukeman.......2003-06-13
Yes, BIGPOPPACOOL, you are correct. This is the same cover art from "Jukes". But, "Paris" is not the only really cool song on the "Jukes" album---there were TEN very cool tunes on that recording. I wish I could find a good copy now. Southside Johnny and The Jukes rule!
JUKE FLUKE COVER.......2002-08-16
CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG, BUT ISNT THE COVER OF RESTLESS HEART REALLY THE COVER FROM THE JUKES 4TH LP ENTITLED "THE JUKES"?
IT HAD ONE REALLY COOL SONG CALLED PARIS ON IT.

Decent buy.......2006-04-04
Although this CD rates as the third best Restless Heart CD (out of 3) in my collection, it is several notches above what appears to be the norm in the music business these days. These guys are truly gifted and rival the Eagles' harmonies with their own special brand. Recommended.

"themes & cues savor the romantic that dwells in all of us".......2005-04-12
What a crowning achievement to bring "Reel Love: The Cinematic Romance Album", released by Silva America and featuring The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus ~ conductors are Kenneth Alwyn, Paul Bateman, James Fitzpatrick, Nic Raine and David Temple director of the chorus ~ one can only expect the highest quality of performances and quench the thirst of all "film-score-buffs".
Sit back and unleash the first disc with composers taking each film score cue in alphabeltical order:
"CASABLANCA (AS TIME GOES BY)" (Herman Hupfeld)
"DOCTOR ZHIVAGO (MAIN TITLE & LARA'S THEME)" (Maurice Jarre)
"EL CID (LOVE THEME)" (Miklos Rozsa)
"EMMA (MAIN THEME) (Rachel Portman)
"GONE WITH THE WIND (TARA'S THEME)" (Max Steiner)
"IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE" (Dimitri Tiomkin)
"LOVE STORY (WHERE DO I BEGIN)" (Francis Lai)
"PLAY MISTY FOR ME (MISTY)" (Errol Garner)
"PRIDE & PREJUDICE (MAIN THEME)" (Carl Davis)
"RYAN'S DAUGHTER (ROSY'S THEME)" (Maurice Jarre)
"SENSE AND SENSIBILITY (THROW THE COINS)" (Patrick Doyle)
"SOMEWHERE IN TIME (MAIN THEME)" (John Barry)
"THEME FROM A SUMMER PLACE" (Max Steiner)
"VERTIGO (SCENE D'AMOUR)" (Bernard Herrmann)
"YOUNG & THE RESTLESS (NADIA'S THEME)" (Barry DeVorzon/Perry Botkin Jr)
Arrangements that soar and then simmer into pure meditation of grandeur ~ classic film music prevails, as orchestration comes to the surface with pure originality ~ one masterpiece after another is long last presented as it should have been, is cause for celebration ~ each cue is a distinctive gift for striking modernism, touching on the transition of the period in this planets history.
Second disc is waiting in the wings are the composers and selections also in alphabeltical order:
"A MAN AND A WOMAN (UN HOMME ET UNE FEMME)" (Francis Lai)
"BRAVEHEART (END TITLES)" (James Horner)
"CINEMA PARADISO (LOVE THEME)" (Ennio Morricone)
"EDWARD SCISSORHANDS (MAIN TITLE/ICE DANCE)" (Danny Elfman)
"EMMANUELLE" (Pierre Bachelet/Herve Roy)
"ENGLISH PATIENT (AS FAR AS FLORENCE)" (Gabriel Yared)
"FINDING NEVERLAND (IMPOSSIBLE OPENING)" (Jan A. P. Kaczmarek)
"GHOST (UNCHAINED MELODY)" (Alex North)
"IL POSTINO (MAIN THEME)" (Luis Bacalov)
"INDECENT PROPOSAL (MAIN THEME)" (John Barry)
"JEAN DE FLORETTE (MAIN TITLE)" (Jean Claude Petit)
"LAST TANGO IN PARIS" (Gato Barbier)
"ROMEO AND JULIET (LOVE THEME)" (Nino Rota)
"SUMMER OF '42 (THE SUMMER KNOWS)" (Michael Legrand)
"TITANIC (MY HEART WILL GO ON)" (James Horner)
Each composer has the passion and skill for exploring human emotions, coupled with a unique gift for striking exotic orchestral colors, make this with all it's splendor unforgettable ~ themes that ring with familiarity as each film comes to mind through music.
Silva America gives the collector a treasure of thirty film cues that any "film-score-buff" would die for ~ in the past James Fitzpatrick (producer), Reynold da Silva (executive producer), mastered by Rick Clark and David Stoner (release co-ordinator) have given us compilation with such expertise and this one is no exception ~ keep up the outstanding limited editions and deluxe package releases, with your signature tidbits for all film music fans that's in all of us...gotta love it!
