The joke's starting to look a little worn around the edges. It's facile to observe that the people who toss the phrase "family values" around don't have Limp Bizkit, Korn, Filter, or Primus in mind when they talk about wholesome entertainment. Well, duh. That said, this a solid collection for those who like the aforementioned bands and their allies, though just about all of this stuff is available in other versions. One highlight is Staind's heavy-duty "Mudshovel," though the best performances overall are from Limp Bizkit, which explains why they provide 4 of the 16 tracks on the album and no other act serves up more than 2. Tracks from Method Man and the Crystal Method weirdly break up the metal that dominates, and there's the obligatory acoustic bonus track, featuring Aaron Lewis of Staind and Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit. --Genevieve Williams

Falls a little short, but has some redeeming tracks..........2006-06-16
All in all the concept behind 'Family Values' is a great one...get the most popular bands that parents would never want their children to listen to and throw them on one stage. KoRn started it, then Limp Bizkit carried it on, and then Staind, so on and so forth. This effort, fronted this time by Limp Bizkit, falls a little short of the first album (fronted by KoRn) and the third (fronted by Staind) but it does have some redeeming value. Lets take it one band at a time.
Lets start with Primus, who, while not one of my favorite bands actually put on a pretty decent set, and the of the two tracks selected for the album, the second 'My Name is Mud' far outdoes the forgettable 'Lacquer Head'...
Staind sadly only has one track here as a band but thankfully it's the explosive 'Mudshuvel' and it proves to be one of the biggest highlights on this album. It's pure raw energy, which is something to expect from one awesome band who always delivers on the live aspect.
Method Man & Redman are two of my favorite rappers, but I have this problem with 'live' rap. It annoys me. Instead of having your favorite rapper spitting fire you have him trading lines with his back up rapper, some no-name dude standing behind them yelling random words that Method or Red forget to say. It's just stupid. Anyways, the Rockwilder is one of my favorite songs but I prefer the recorded album material, not this live crap.
A huge fan of Filters first album I was excited to see 'Hey Man Nice Shot' on the bill BUT this recording really, for lack of a better word, SUCKS...the second offering 'Welcome to the Fold' on the other hand kicks major @$$ and serves as another highlight to the album. That's two great tracks so far for those taking count.
The Crystal Method also, while only delivering one track, serve up a great one...but how can you screw up techno, live or studio it really all sounds the same. Kudos.
KoRn may have been having an off night, but the coupling of A.D.I.D.A.S. and Good God was genius so I'll be nicer to them. Falling Away from me was lacking but it's forgivable.
Limp, the headliners, are the only bad to recieve so many tracks on this album, and then do a decent job with it, opening the album with the heavy hitting Break Stuff which still manages to fall short of both Mudshuvel and Welcome to the Fold. Rearanged and I Would for You are decent tracks in themselves, but they disrupt the pace of this album by delivering a soft sided track to a thrash worthy offering. Thank god the redeemed themselves with 'Nookie' which serves as the fifth highlight here.
And the final highlight is 'Outside' BUT, it would have been MUCH Better had Fred Durst kept his mouth shut. This is Aaron's song and he's what makes it brilliant. Fred couldn't touch this kind of genius in his sleep so he should stop trying to capitalize on it. Anyways, so there you go...and the top 6 reasons to listen to this album are, in order...
06 - "Keep Hope Alive" by The Crystal Method
05 - "A.D.I.D.A.S./Good God" by Korn
04 - "Nookie" by Limp Bizkit
03 - "Welcome to the Fold" by Filter
02 - "Mudshuvel" by Staind
01 - "Outside" by Aaron Lewis feat. (oh crap) Fred Durst
Fans of nu-metal & alternative will enjoy this compilation..........2006-01-31
I picked this CD up at my local music store several months back after seeing Staind and Filter were featured. I have since, listened to this album release and have quietly enjoyed the bands like Primus, Korn and Limp Bisqit who I rarely have heard of until now. The highlights for me were 'Mudshovel' by Staind and the acoustic 'Outside' sung in tandem by Aaron Lewis of Staind and Fred Durst of Limp Bisqit.
The feel of the album is a nu-metal/rock atmosphere with Tracks 5 and 11 from RM&B artists. Overall the album is a great listen and well worth the buy, these songs are primarily for fans of the aforementioned bands. 'Falling Away From Me' by Korn is also a great listen and a good mosh to song.
Good bands, decent collection........2004-06-22
I would think this would appeal mostly to those who saw this tour, but it's still a good disc. I don't like it as much as the 1998 tour, but it's still good. "Limp Bizkit" dominates this collection, but there's still good songs from "Primus", "Staind", and "The Crystal Method". The live "Outside" is the bonus song here, and "Durst" also covers "I Would For You", which is an old "Jane's Addiction" song, though it's not near as great as the original. Overall this is good if you like the bands, otherwise it doesn't have much "Value".
hmmm..........2003-12-21
"Family values" is pretty good live album that features some most shining alternative/metal stars from end of century.of course Staind's "Mudshovel" or Primus "Laquer head" are great as other tracks but the appearance of Method man and redman is quite scary. And Korn's is not sounding so good on here, without a kick.they had a bad day or what?
also the sound is not superb.bass is vanishing somewhere or it tottaly blows your speakers out so you can't hear other instruments.if the production was better than i would give it 1 star more.also - why do we need it? tracks are all like studio versions (except fred durst's "I would for you" that appears only on this cd) and you can get them with better sound on other compilation albums...
well i have got mixed feelings about it.a good compilation from this tournee.i mean, fans will buy it but i wuoldn't call it a great album.just a compilation.not the strongest one around...
A decent little package........2003-01-03
Seeing how I have had this CD for two and a half years now and have reviewed the other two Family Values live discs (1998, 2001), I figured what better time than now to review the 1999 disc which, despite it's shortcomings, delivers a great sounding live show. Before I go on in this review, I should mention how crisp and clear the sound quality is on all of the songs. If only all live albums could sound this good.
The headliners in 1999 were Limp Bizkit, who after being the opening act on the 1998 tour, had finally reached superstardom with two multi-platinum albums under their belts. And what better time than before their 15 minutes of fame was over for them to headline. Really, the band is in top-form on here. All of the LB tracks (sans "I Would For You," a Jane's Addiction cover) draw from "Significant Other," which still stands to date as their most successful (and in my opinion, best) album. Although the song selection is a little weak, they still deliver an excellent performance. I especially enjoyed listening to "Nookie" and "Re-Arranged."
Korn are also featured on here, but not as extensively as Limp Bizkit, for two reasons: One, Korn were not the headliners and two, Korn only appeared for a few dates on the tour. That being said, however, their selection on here is great. You get a combo of "A.D.I.D.A.S." and "Good God" that just sounds excellent and a nice rendition of "Falling Away From Me" that only suffers from Jonathan's strained vocals (I suspect he had a cold or something).
Minimally featured are the Crystal Method and the hip-hop duo Method Man & Redman. Crystal Method perform "Keep Hope Alive" and it is the only track of theirs that is on here. I like Crystal Method, but live techno? Kind of pointless. I think the CD could have benefited from more Method Man and Redman, the latter being one of the best and most underrated MC's of the 90's. Their contribution "Da Rockwilder" serves as a nice break in the otherwise alternative/nu-metal clutter.
Staind give their radio-hit "Mudshovel" a nice performance, and frontman Aaron Lewis shines on the acoustic track "Outside," which everyone has heard by now and ended up being the song that catapulted them into fame.
Primus contribute two songs "Lacquer Head" and "My Name is Mud" that are pretty enjoyable, but for the uninitiated, might be boring. They sort of stick out like a sore thumb on this tour, but give a nice performance nontheless.
Finally, Filter. I have nothing against Filter, and the two songs they contribute are really good songs ("Welcome To The Fold" and "Hey Man, Nice Shot"), but they sound like complete cacophony on here. Really, listening to them perform on this CD I get the impression that they must be the worst live band ever. These tracks will make even die-hard fans cringe.
So, overall, I think this is a pretty good live CD. Once you can get past the pointless, preachy, typical Fred Durst rambling throughout the booklet, you'll enjoy it. But just like the other two Family Values CD's, it's hit or miss. If you didn't like any of the bands before, this CD won't change your mind, but if you happen to be a fan, you will find something to make you happy on here -- That is, unless you're a Filter fan...

Four stars because of the packaging, not the music..........2002-01-04
If you have the choice, buy the regular packaging. The special packaging is [bad]...It's just an all pink case with a plastic covering showing the track listings. There is no booklet, but it does come with a cool pack of trading cards (And strangely enough, a pack of gum!)
So after you start chewing the gum you start listening to the album:
1. Break Stuff- 10/10- Better than the recorded version!
2. Laquer Head - 8/10- Being a bass guitar player, I find Primus's tracks memorable for the awsome bass, but nothing else.
3. Mudshovel - 10/10- Staind is truly great live, and this track shows.
4. Falling Away From Me - 9/10- Jon Davis slips a bit in his singing...
5. Rockwilder - I am a big fan of Red and Meth, and this is an incredible track-5/5
6. Hey Man, Nice Shot - 8/10- Filter's performance made me want to look more into them, becuase I hadn't liked them before!
7. Rearranged - 10/10-Probably Limp Bizkit's best performance on the CD
8. A.D.I.D.A.S./Good God- 10/10- Best song on the whole CD, hands down!
9. My Name Is Mud - 5/10- Even the bass isn't memorable on this one!
10. Welcome To The Fold - 9/10- A better performance than their first...
11. Keep Hope Alive - 8/10- Good for techno music, but I'm not the biggest fan of that genre...
12. I Would For You - 8/10- Great cover of a great song, just a little plain. Durst's remarks to the audience are very amusing!
13. Nookie - 10/10- Great performance by Limp Bizkit, but Durst has the audience say part of the song (I've seen it live), but it was muted out in the studio.
14. Outside - 10/10- Great, soothing song, but Fred Durst broke the soothing with his dirty mouth
Very WEIRD!!!.......2001-09-08
This CD features tracks from the second Family Values Tour and this time the tour suffers from not having a real line-up like the 98 version had. Instead of a tour with five bands and different openers only Limp Bizkit and Filter were on the entire tour. Still there's a lot of good contricutions from the other bands like Korn and Primus and (the at that time unknown band) Staind. Korn rocks it out with Falling Away From Me, probably the first time that song was played like on the record. The second track from Korn (a medley of ADIDAS and Good God) is a killer track as well, but not as good as the other tracks.
Primus rocks too, in their usual witty rock style way. Staind has their big hitter, Mudshovel, on the record. Good song and good playing, still I would rather have heard Home or Suffocate from Dysfunction. There's tracks by Method Man/Redman and the Crystal Method too, but they [are bad], man! It's not that they're bad, they just don't fit in. Filter rocks better than any of the other groups, playing their first and their new hits, Hey Man and Welcome to the Fold. Limp Bizkit is good too, but their performances are too average to be really good in this content, although I Would For You is a killer song! They should play much more, but that would probably destroy the song. First I wanted to give this CD 3 stars but because of the groups and that it is a good CD I gave it 4. You might wanna buy the first CD before this one and probably also the new when it comes out before you buy this one.
This cd needs A UNIVERSE FULL OF STARS!.......2001-02-28
This cd is awesome. buy it! if there is any cd you should buy, its this one! The best songs are break stuff, A.D.I.D.A.S.,nookie, and outside, but every song is awesome!!!
forget 5 stars... 100,000 STARS FOR THIS CD!.......2000-07-12
Family Values '99 is the best CD I own! Limp Bizkit is my favorite band, and I LOVE KoRn, Filter, and Staind, so for me, this CD couldn't really get any better! I went to the actual tour last fall, and this CD is almost as great as the live tour was. You can hear the roars of the crowd in the backround, and the bands are better than they are on their CD's! Every track on this CD is awesome, and it lets you hear your favorite bands play your favorite songs live... I mean, what could be better than that? For all you Limp Bizkit, Primus, Staind, Korn, Methodman, Redman, and Crystal Method fans out there, this is the CD to get! ALSO: check out the bonus track (called OUTSIDE) with Staind and Fred Durst, and I WOULD FOR YOU by Limp Bizkit!
Best CD I own.......2000-06-13
