Customer Reviews:
Garden gnomes?.......2001-04-08
I agree with Simon's review about how little support Artillery received from their label. Wow, your sarcasm is on a level of its own.
Anyway, I was introduced to Artillery by an Australian friend (hi, Dave) I knew in Malaysia many years back. It seems that no one around here (Florida, USA) has heard of Artillery...what a shame that such a cutting-edge band (in the mid-'80's) should lie at the bottom of a lake like that.
A shifty album of garage production demo's.......2000-10-20
The recent overwhelming worldwide interest in what has been happening with the very highly visible Artillery, has led their record company to finally release the oft mentioned, but rarely seen, Deadly Relics CD. By now a household name in all communities from Burma to Botswanna, this is an early look at the limp asparagus on paint tins producton values that Artillery dispensed with when recording their first full length album, leaving Sodom to pick up the pieces and run with them.Sodom did in fact run with them, though it is a point of conjecture as to whether running straight down a steep incline into a noisy swamp of crap is a good thing.Artillery, a favourite band of Prince William and Donald Trump, deftly managed their career by combining the releasing of albums of unbridled greatness, with what is known as "Black Hole Publicity" whereby every piece of publicty that accompaied these releases was not only stopped and negated, but 400 other pieces of information completely irrelevant to them was published.Artillery must stand as the one band on the planet who are a dominant force when it comes to knowledge about repairing garden gnomes, taking extended naps in broom closets, and divining water from dry lake beds.
This is a must buy album, if not for the music, for what the album stands for. A flowing,stop-start compilation of jingles and death metal, sure to warm the cockles of your heart.
Brilliant to embarrassing within 6 songs.......2000-10-19
Re-release of Artillery's Demo tapes on CD. Total of 4 demo tapes included. Tracks 2 and 3 are from the 1989 demo for the "By Inheritence" LP and these songs absolutely crank!! Much heavier sound than appeared on the final CD (which was ok). Heaps of energy and trademark insanely heavy and fast riffs with powerful vocals. Tracks 4 and 5 are from the 1985 demo for the "Fear of Tomorrow" LP. These pretty much sound the same as the LP.
The next 8 songs are from demo's from 1984 with their first vocalist. As you'd expect they are pretty rough and immature. The vocals are just plain funny. The music however, shows how these guys were right up there with your Metallica's and Slayer's and way ahead of most other bands of the era.
It was a disappointment that there were no demo's for 1987's classic "Terror Squad", which you should pickup without delay. Also, perhaps get their new CD "B.A.C.K". Riffs, Riffs, Riffs....insane.
