Patricia Arquette stars in this good vs. evil religious mystery thriller while Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan and Mike Garson score the movie's incidental music to create a perpetual sense of unease. The soundtrack begins with several conventional pop songs. Remy Zero's "Gramarye" is a track from their album that features a complex mix of ambient sea sounds and thick piano notes. Everyone's favorite merry pranksters Chumbawamba add a Stigmatic mix of "Mary Mary" that's as kinetic and close to the dance floor as politicos get. David Bowie charges up for "The Pretty Things Are Going to Hell," a robotic piece of machine rock. Sinead O'Connor rides the world beat groove with Afro Celt Sound System for "Release." Natalie Imbruglia delivers the Billy Corgan and Mike Garson signature track "Identify." The second half is instrumental music that succeeds as ambient tone poems, often featuring several tracks and rhythms rolled into one. --Rob O'Connor

5 out of 5 stars New Age not Rock.......2006-09-15

I agree with the person who asked where is the music from the movie, not that I paid that close attention. It seems that here are about 5 or 6 "rock" songs and the rest is New Age. Not what I was expecting but OK.

1 out of 5 stars STIGMATA.......2006-07-19

Watched the dvd and that was ok but the movie track is terrible
listened to it couldn't wait till it finished as soon as I can ILL palm it off on someone , better maybe the rubblish tip would suit.
For the life of me how could anyone rate this CD above 1

4 out of 5 stars An excellent soundtrack for an beautiful movie.......2005-02-15

Stigmata was one great movie, it was casted well, directed stunningly and dealed with a deep subject with due credit. It is one of the best movies I have seen related to the subject of the church and good vs evil. Whilst browsing my favourite DVD/CD shop I came across the movie sountrack and decided to opt to buy it and am glad I did.
Contrary to several people's complaints that the music from the movie was not on the sountrack, that is not correct, watching the movie before listening to the soundtrack, I did pick up 95% of the songs and the music sounds. What is most exciting about this album is that it incorporates music songs as well as music sounds that were played throughout the movie. Nearly all the tracks were supreme and yet at the end I did want to play it again. The Reflect pieces throughout the music tracks were mixed to create a mood of reflection within the innerself.
Well done to the movie and the soundtrack. What a masterful masterpiece.

4 out of 5 stars What A WEIRD, WILD, COOL Soundtrack This Is!.......2004-06-05

The soundtrack to Stigmata is most interesting. So is the movie. The first viewing of Stigmata in the theatre had me listening to the music more than watching the film on the big screen. These songs are THAT GOOD!

Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan and Mike Garson score the movie's music to create a perpetual sense of darkness, evilness, and general unease.

Some highlights are: Remy Zero's "Gramarye", Chumbawamba's "Mary Mary", Afro Celt System with "Release." Natalie Imbruglia and "Identify", "Inertia Creeps" by Massive Attack. Even Ol' David Bowie charges up for "The Pretty Things Are Going to Hell," a mechanical/NIN sounding (and produced by Trent Reznor) song.

I can't forget to mention the beautiful, "All Is Full Of Love", by the incomparable Bjork.

Most enjoyable movie. Most enjoyable soundtrack!

Happy Listening!

4 out of 5 stars "A mysterious work of Art..with a consistency to it !.......2003-02-20

I am a huge fan of trip hop music and I honestly have to say I was very pleased to hear a soundtrack that touch on it. I haven't heard a consistant works like this since 1996's "Lost Highway's" soundtrack. This CD has a lot of Jem's on it "Identify" is a beautiful Haunting discovery! I was highly upset when I got Natalie Imbruglia's "White Lilies Island" and found nothing that resembled this artistry! Bjork delivered a version of "All is full of Love" that was enchanting compared to the original. It has become a cult favorite in my collection it is so beautifully well done! Remi Zero's song is really artistic and has a creepy funky vibe to it. I even feel the opening track is a nice song to be kind of a hard rock vibe! This cd starts off with the evil rock sounds and dips into the creepy "Trip Hop" stuff into the instrumental(creepy sound effect) score material. Great transition in my opinion, but the only song that disrupts the total vibe of the project is "David Bowie's it is really retro and entirely to fast! I guess they contributed that in the "Lost Highway" tradition. But his song on "LOst Highway" was much more fitting and creative than this. This is a beautiful work, it has a lot of diversity to offer without sounding like everything was tacked together like most soundtracks.I would have to say this soundtrack opened my eye's to the remix of "All is full of LOve !" And it showed me Natalie, at her best, so I thank this selection for those masterpieces! In my opinion those two songs, are masterworks in the trip hop archieves! The other song's are good, not a waste of money or time at all but I had heard some of them already. The score material is basically Trip Hop instumentals in my opinion, very erie and creepy sound scapes! This soundtrack does create a certain mysterious vibe that will have you relaxing and turning on the Black Light! It may be a while before we see another soundtrack collection that captures the essience of european music and horror! I hate these horror movies that come out and have cheesy rock sountracks. In my opinion it takes alot of mystery and horror from the films, cheapens the movie makes them abit cheesy!

I hear that "Donnie Darko" Has a nice haunting score too it ! At least I liked what I heard in the film.........

    4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2007-01-23

I have just given this CD a first listen since getting ahold of it. I have loved Arch Enemy since I first heard them, but it was on Anthems of Rebellion, so I'm a bit of a new fan. I had been wanting to find the older Arch Enemy albums with Johan Liiva on vocals because I like the band so much and it seems the earlier material is always the best for any band. After hearing Wages of Sin, Anthems of Rebellion, and Doomsday Machine, I would say that this is easily my least favorite Arch Enemy. I do like it a lot, though, but Angela Gossow just flat out KILLS Johan Liiva, in my humble opinion. Also, I like the songwriting and production better on the later ones.
As far as this album goes, I do think it is a great listen, and my favorites on here were Sinister Mephisto, Bridge of Destiny, Black Earth, and Beast of Man. So, to sum it up, it is great and worth the money, but if you haven't listened to Arch Enemy, I think you should get any of the Angela Gossow albums first.

5 out of 5 stars This Is Arch Enemy In Their True Form - Haunting, Melodic, And Skilled At What They Do.......2006-08-07

Arch Enemy - Stigmata (1998) - Second album - Century Media Records.

The Arch Enemy of today is known for their skilled guitarists, and one of the only female Melo-Death Metal vocalists out there. Little know or have even heard the old Arch Enemy, pre-Angela Gossow. I have listened to the newer Arch Enemy, and I see a huge difference in not just the vocals, but also the song-writing as a whole. Now, for me, I much rather prefer the old Arch Enemy, however, I must note that Arch Enemy has never been a band I hated, and they are an extremely talented group.

This was Arch Enemy's second album, and featured Michael Amott on guitar, who is widely considered one of the most skilled guitarists of the genre, Martin Bengtsson on bass, Peter Wildoer on drums, and Johan Liiva on vocals/rhythm guitar. Each member here is in their prime and fullest form. Each musician is notable, and all have their moments to shine. You've got Mike going crazy on guitar, and well-sounding and addictive riffs courtesy of both Mike Amott and Johan Liiva, you've got Peter on drums, who, while might not be as technically proficient as other drummers in this vast genre, can be most noted for his creative use of his cymbals, and the sounds he's able to produce out of them. You've also got Martin Bengtsson on bass who, sadly, doesn't stand out very much, but he does have his moments if you are willing to listen carefully (the drums, vox, and guitars are much louder than the bass in the mix), and you've also got, once again of course, now former vocalist Johan Liiva, who most die-hard Arch Enemy fans seem to prefer. Now, I could very easily go into this long criticism comparing the two vocalists, but for now, I'll spare you all, not only because I don't want to take up too much space, but also because it's unfair to compare the two. They have 2 different styles of singing; it would ultimately be comparable to apples vs. oranges. Johan Liiva does give a good raspy voice, and what I consider to be one of the most decipherable "growls/grunts" in the entire genre of Metal.

Now, that being said, the song-writing here, like mentioned above, is very different from later albums with Angela Gossow in the mix. It seems rawer, less produced, and has a certain dark atmosphere. The riffs are surprisingly addictive, the solo's are amazing to say the least, the drums are clean, not sloppy, and don't conform to the typical double bass stomping, but rather, leaves the double bass to a minimum and does what's needed to help out with the atmosphere of the dark, down-tuned, heavy guitars. The vocals fit in with this music also surprisingly well, and as mentioned, the bass is very muddy and blends in with the guitars most of the time. Each song goes through many time-changes, which doesn't leave you bored with either song (depending on your tastes), and there is a healthy mix of variety as well. Some songs are slow-paced and pick up later; other songs are mid-paced, and stay that way; and the rest are either instrumental pieces once again meant to keep the mood of the album going, or they are fast paced, thrash induced songs with blistering guitar-work. Either way, this album won't fail to please you regardless of what forms of Metal you like most. Also worth noting, the songs here are more epic-length, as opposed to the typical 3-4 minute songs on later albums like Doomsday Machine and Wages Of Sin.

    Songs:
    1. Beast Of Man: This is the album opener, and is absolutely relentless. Its one of the more Thrashy, fast-paced songs with minor slow parts in the middle. Contains some of the best riffs on the album. Also, the solo's are very well done and absolutely infectious.

    2. Stigmata: The title track, Stigmata, is an instrumental, mid-paced song. A decent song overall, but sort of on the verge of filler material.

    3. Sinister Mephisto: This track is very groove-oriented, and contains a very catchy main riff. One of the better songs of the album. Also definately worth noting, is the drums, and the use of cymbals. Very creative, very well-done.

    4. Dark Of The Sun: This is a mid-paced/slow song with more catchy riffs. The vocals here are pretty raspy, and doesn't fit the song TOO well, but it does its job overall.

    5. Let The Killing Begin: A decent song with a mostly fast pace. However, not one of the more impressive songs on the album. More verge of filler material for me.

    6. Black Earth: My absolute favourite of the entire album. It also happens to be the slowest song on the entire album, but there's just something about it that's addictive. One of the better Arch Enemy songs in general in my opinion. Best vocals on the album, best riffs (and one of the better riffs I've heard of any band), amazingly well-done solo's, entertaining throughout. Great song, I'd buy the album just for this song.

    7. Hydra: Yet another instrumental piece meant to transition the mood of the previous track into the to follow up, Tears Of The Dead.

    8. Tears Of The Dead: Yet another one of those rather fast-paced songs with infectious riffs and groove. My other favourite just because of the catchiness factor.

    9. Diva Satanica: One of the faster songs on the album. (if not, the fastest). Now, granted, this is not fast in the sense of, lets say, Rotten Sound fast, or even Cryptopsy fast, but it utilizes its tempo well. Great song in general.

    10. Damnation's Way: Another mid-paced song with fast riffs, and a slow chorus. Not exactly my favourite, but its not filler material. Johan's vocals sound especially nasally here for some odd reason.

    11. Vox Stellarum: Basically, this song, in a nutshell, is a very atmospheric 2 minute piano piece with a guitar, drum and bass interlude in about the middle, and contains some of the only soulful guitar playing on the entire album. If I were to choose any of the instrumental pieces over the rest, this would be it.

    12. Bridge Of Destiny: The longest song on the entire album and has more of that fast guitar work accompanied with quite a bit of the double bass. In the intro, at least. Great song to close the album too.

So, with ALL OF THAT being said (and yes, it's a lot to read, I know), the final verdict is: if you are a fan of Melodic Death Metal, or are into at least melodically influenced bands with rather harsh vocals, and fast paced drumming, then this album is for you.

    Thank you for reading.

5 out of 5 stars The Eclipse Of Melodic Death Metal, Layed In History As The End Was Near.......2006-04-11

My first introduction to Arch Enemy was in 1999, back when Johan frosted darkness upon the band. I loved the music (yeah, at age 9), but I hated Johan so much I couldn't stand listening to any song all the way through. This album scared me the most. Something about it was so mysterious, dark...evil, satanic? Haunting...you get the idea. Anyways those thoughts stayed with me till just post-Anthems of Rebellion. I ended up actually loving Burning Bridges because of it's sleaker production and top notch, dual Amott riffs, topped off with the light speed drumming of Daniel and steady rythem by Sharlee. Johan was "cleaner" on Burning Bridges, so I adapted to it easily. However, I was still skeptic about this one, mainly because Johan's voice was even worse (sorry to say). He just didn't fit well. Apparently however, it has grown on me as one of the most underrated icons of the Death Metal Scene, right up their with Carcass's "Heartwork" and "Swansong" albums, Death's "Human, and Emperor's "Prometheus:...".

First off, I love Arch Enemy's instrumentals...almost ALL of them. They all have their own unique sounds to them, creating their own personal appeal from the listener. The title track and "Vox Stellarum" are no exceptions, they both rule. The former is pounding, which then speeds up pretty well where the Amott brothers show off what they do as a warm up, and the latter displays a darker, deeper side, which is kicked out of the way by more riffage, then relates back to the dreaming, depressing piano. These two instrumentals alone set the album tone very nicely on their own. The latter displays the emotion set in the face of the tainted man on the cover, who looks as though he has lost everything and has been scarred by the darkness (notice his left eye).

I can never truly complain about the guitars or the drumming, and not enough on the bass, but only on Johan's vocals, especially on this album. Stigmata has been given a devastating sound, listening to "Beast Of Man" tears along with the heaviest riffs you can imagine. The band's original drummer, Daniel Erlandsson, plays the drums only on this track. The rest is played by Peter Wildoer of Darkane. Songs like "Dark Of The Sun", "Black Earth" and the nine minute milestone "Bridge Of Destiny" leave huge amounts of space for everybody to show off a bit, especially the solos that come in fast from both guitarists.

The only track that doesn't belong on this album to me is "Let The Killing Begin". It lacks flair and catchiness and it doesn't help when Johan sounds like he has a cold.

After facing and overcoming this fear, I have to say that this is one of the best albums of metal, greatly underlooked by many. Maybe fans didn't like to see them going into an over-the-top technical direction. In any case, this is a must buy, must own CD . Do not give in to the darkness of MTV or any other mainstream influence. Let the man on the cover, who is now doomed for his forgotten sins, lay at rest, knowing another will not follow his fate.

5 out of 5 stars Far supeior to Arch Enemy's newer releases.......2006-02-24

Wow! Arch Enemy before Angela are almost like a completely different band, one that's far better. The crux of this album, as well as the back bone of Arch Enemy, are the two Ammot brothers, who pack this album full of heavy and catchy riffs and shredding solos. Johan's voice is quit different when compared to Angela's (well, of course from the obvious difference of sex). His voice is very raspy and reminds me alot of the guy from Pestilence. It's somewhere inbetween death metal grunts and a growly thrash voice. At first I was a little put off by the different vocals, but after a few listens I must say I almost prefer them now. The drumming is good and is somewhat unqiue in that he uses alot of bells and ride cymbals. The solos are all very good and certainly are interesting. The best track is the closing "Bridge of Destiny". The last few minutes include one of the most impressive riffs I have ever heard. It is just so filled with emotion in every note bend. I do not think I have ever heard a guitar part with so much passion and emotion in it before. Another excellent track is "Let the Killing Begin" which showcases a little drum/bass break between the intro and verse. The drumming on this part is very good but the bass suffers from tuned too low syndrome as its very difficult to hear and just not good, but its passable and doesn't take away from the awesomeness of this part and track.

Pros: "Birdge of Destiny"! Awesome solos and riffs aplenty from the brothers Ammot. Frenized drumming. Overall the instrumentation is pretty good.

Cons: If you are used to Angela's vocals you probably won't like Johan's voclas. Production is pretty dry at best.

Final Word: A great release from a good melodic death band. Highly recommended for metal headds who apprieciate good metal. This is and "Black Earth" are much better than any of their newer releases.

5 out of 5 stars Another Arch Enemy album...Another Masterpiece.......2005-04-28

This is the latest AE album for me after buying Wages of Sin, Anthems of Rebellion, and Black Earth. I'm saving their apparent masterpiece Burning Bridges for last. The style is fairly similar to Black Earth although each album still has their own distinct feel. The Ammot's guitar work is even more impressive this time around, especially the leads which I consider the best I've heard from them so far.

Stigmata starts with 'Beast of Man', the first highlight of the album. Heavy riffing and even blastbeats show up, which I believe is the only time you'll hear them on any AE album. Another standout track for me is 'Black Earth', which kicks in with a signature AE riff attack following the chaotic intro. It always gets my blood pumping when that riff kicks in.

Since I love insturmentals, I love the tracks 'Stigmata' and 'Vox Stellarum'. 'Stigmata' has some heavenly & melodic guitar soloing courtesy of the Ammots, played with all the emotion you could want. Speaking of emotion, the last standout track 'Bridge of Destiny' is an epic of an album closer, featuring more outstanding guitar work and one of the best outro guitar leads that I've ever heard. Again, the lead is played with tons of feeling and emotion, giving off a truly triumphant vibe as well. A perfect ending for another AE masterpiece.

Highly highly recommended for any lover of music!!!!!

With their latest release on Marilyn Manson's Post Human Records, now is the time to hear where it all started. Power Tool Stigmata' is a REALLY great album with elements of both goth (soft acoustic guitar riffs) and industrial (synthesizers and 'power chords'). It's impossible NOT to find something you like on this CD - there's even a cover of the Beatles' 'Eleanor Rigby'! 14 tracks in all.

This is the first Godhead CD I bought, I think it's awesome. I really would recommend it if you like "Nine Inch Nails" and possibly "Tool" or "Perfect Circle". It certainly has those types of flavors in the songs.

I love this album as much as anyone else but to be honest i slightly prefer 2000 years of human error.
Stop slaging off Manson, Linden from san antonio, he didn't ruin godhead and if thats what you think, don't blame him because they will have asked him to join them!
A brill cd and if you are thinking about getting it then you will like it.

    3 out of 5 stars Solid release........2003-02-11

Being a part of the audience during Manson's Guns, God, and Government tour led to purchases 2 albums from both the opening acts, one being The Union Underground and the other being Godhead. After giving 2000 years a listen I went and purchased this older release. Power Tool Stigmata has it's peaks and gutters of both good, bad and even unique efforts, but, other than being a solid studio band, Godhead is clearly in their prime when on stage in front of the people. Their live show alone makes them worth mentioning.

1 out of 5 stars nothing that you would expec t.......2002-11-16

Great name, sure, but this band of Manson-ites is not what they appear. If you see a photo of the band, then you will expect to hear a scorching, straightforward metal sound on album, but these guys are not sinister, (though very ugly), or even that loud! A metal band covering the work of the great Beatles is unheard of, and the vocalist is horrible at what he does. The band's playing is OK, but not enough to make up for what the rest of the album shows. Godhead are in no way a band that is what they appear to be. We have a word for bands like this one: POSERS!!!!

5 out of 5 stars A Definate Must Have CD For Godhead Fans.......2002-11-06

I have to admit, I almost didn't buy this CD. I was almost dissuaded by some pretty bad reviews. I'm so glad that I got it anyway, it's one of a kind. Does it ever annoy you when you really like a band and all of their music on every CD sounds the same? Godhead is one of the rare bands that has managed to have a unique and wonderful sound on each album. The songs have a beautiful mixture of programming and guitar, and Jason's voice completes it. The instrumental songs are amazing, the Method shows what he truly can do on Laura's Theme. 2000 Years of Human Error was good, but this is raw Godhead. Godhead without the help of Marilyn Manson, Twiggy, and Reeves Gabriel. All of the bass and programming by the Method, instead of having a guest artist, same thing with the guitar and Mike. If you buy this CD, you will definately get your money's worth out of it.

Stigmata has done it again. Reinventing themselves brilliantly with every release, this cd is no different. A break from the metal of Hymns, this is closer to true hardcore.
