Put together by Abba's own Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia! manages to cram over 20 of the Swedish supergroup's songs into a threadbare plot. It goes a little like this: Young Sophie is getting married and she's trying to identify which of three men is her father. That's about it. Wisely, the musical doesn't mess around with the songs, save for the insertion of some dialogue or for having some of them performed by a man (it works amazingly well). Abba fans will jump on this import of the London production, but traditional fans of musical theater should consider it as well. After all, Andersson and Ulvaeus's songs have always felt as if they were more than isolated pop gems and actually belonged to a longer narrative. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

5 out of 5 stars Mamma Mia Musical CD.......2007-03-21

This is a grand list of songs from the original musical when it was first introduced in England. The songs from ABBA are very recognizable even if you haven't seen the show. But, making a trip to NY to see the Broadway production is a plus. ENJOY!

4 out of 5 stars JUST GREAT MUSIC.......2007-03-08

I RECENTLY SAW THE SHOW MAMMA MIA IN LAS VEGAS. ALWAYS LIKES THE MUSIC OF ABBA, AND THOUGH THE PLOT WAS THIN, THE MUSIC WAS WELL PERFORMED. IN THIS PARTICULAR ALBUM, THE ENGLISH ACCENTS WERE A BIT MUCH, BUT THE SONGS WERE GREAT. ALL I CAN SAY IS THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC, ABBA.

5 out of 5 stars Mamma Mia.......2007-01-29

Every time I hear the music and songs it brings back memories of seeing the Broadway Show

1 out of 5 stars Not good at all.......2007-01-09

This is not what we wanted. The British accents throw it was off. We just saw it in NY and this is not what we were looking for.

Album Description

From their arrival in 1992 with the 8x-platinum "CORE," Stone Temple Pilots have consistently been among the forefront of modern rock `n' roll artists. With each album, the California-based quartet - Scott Weiland, Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz - has pursued their own unique musical vision, an inspired sonic approach merging metallic riffs and baroque pop melodies with a punk-fuelled energy and a gift for psychedelic experimentation. As a result, Stone Temple Pilots have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, and they rank among the top three most successful bands to emerge in the 1990s (along with Nirvana and Pearl Jam). Among their many accolades, Stone Temple Pilots received a "Best Hard Rock Performance with Vocal" Grammy Award for their #1 rock smash, "Plush." Other honors bestowed upon the band over the years include two American Music Awards, one Billboard Music Award, two Billboard Video Awards, and an MTV Video Music Award. In 2001, the band received a Grammy Award nomination in the "Best Hard Rock Performance" category for "Down" (from "No. 4").

4 out of 5 stars Great Overview of STP, but Poor Version of Acoustic Plush.......2007-06-02

This disc has a good collection of STP's songs. If you've heard STP on the radio and never got around to buying one of their albums, this will give you pretty much all of the songs that you've heard before. Hardcore fans of STP will probably already own the individual albums these tracks are from. My only complaint with this disc is that the acoustic version of Plush sounds like it wasn't recorded directly from the sound boards live at their MTV unplugged session. It sounds like it was run through a TV first, with the requisite TV hum. It's a jarring change from the previous track. I suppose when they play that song on the radio, it's not nearly as noticeable as when you're blasting it from a CD.

5 out of 5 stars casual.......2007-03-20

If your a casual fan of STP and know them by their hit songs this cd is perfect for you. But if you're serious you'd probably collect the cd's one by one. I love Sour Girl, anyway I don't know why these songs got airplay they're actually pretty good, the radio stations in my town only play crap.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD, if you don't already have STP in your collection.......2006-08-28

I bought this CD for the acoustic version of Plush. Unfortunately, I did not pay attention to the other titles, only to find that this was a "best of" CD.

4 out of 5 stars A nice piece of 90's rock nostalgia.......2006-06-29

While the 1990's had several grunge / alternative bands, STP is one of key bands of the decade. During that decade, they earned 17 platinum records. While they sadly broke up like other bands, this CD is a fitting tribute to their great work.

Songs such as "Plush", "Interstate Love Song", and "Trippin' on a hole..." are all here. While one could purchase Core or Purple, the #1 chart toppers from those CDs are all compiled neatly here. It even includes an acoustic recorded on MTV's Headbanger's Ball.

I admit I am not a diehard fan, but this CD deserved a good review. If you have fond memories of Stone Temple Pilots or 90's rock in general, this is worth buying.

4 out of 5 stars Great, but not perfect.......2006-05-29

I just recently got into Stone Temple Pilots after hearing Big Empty on the radio. I immediately went out and got this. it's a great CD but not perfect. I love Vasoline, Big Empty, Plush, Big Bang Baby, Interste Love Song, All In The Suit You Wear, and Days of the Week. Down, Wicked Garden, Creep, and Suor Girl are also excellent songs. Lady Picture Show is passbale but Trippin On A Hole In A Paper Heart and Sex Type Thing are forgettable. Still pick it up if you're a casual fan or haven't heard All In The Suit You Wear and Plush (acoustic). Great CD.

5 out of 5 stars good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27

We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars with a song in my heart/pal joey sound tracks.......2007-03-31

I actually was so pleased to see a CD available because I have been longing for the movie "with a song in my heart" to become available on VHS and then on DVD, and it never has, so now at least I can enjoy the songs from the movie. The cast track from Pal Joey was just an added bonus.

5 out of 5 stars With A Song In My Heart CD.......2007-03-19

I saw the film, "With A Song In My Heart" when I was twelve or thirteen years old and have wanted the sound track for many years. As an impressionable teenager in the 1950s, I have collected over time many of the films from that time on VHS or DVD, to satisfy my memories of the period. I regret that this particular film is not available on VHS or DVD, but, this CD is the next best choice. It is really enjoyable to hear the richness and depth of the voice of Jane Froman, who was one of the best singers of the time. I can still recall many scenes from the film and this CD revives the memories so well.

4 out of 5 stars A Jane Froman double feature........2006-09-16

This DRG CD pairs two recordings starring Jane Froman.

WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

Susan Hayward played Jane Froman in the film but Froman herself dubbed the vocals. This album of songs was originally issued as a 10" Lp. None of the tracks are taken from the film: They are all studio re-recordings. Later, Capitol re-released it as a 12" LP with two extra songs added. It is that expanded [program included here. Froman is in great voice, though the orchestrations are overly lush and string heavy. Still, the songs include such standards as "It's a Good Day", "Get Happy", and "Embraceable You" making for an enjoyable mini-concert.

PAL JOEY

Capitol's cast album of the 1952 revival has long been a collector's item. The original Lp was deleted in 1960 and did not resurface until Broadway Angel released it on CD (briefly) in 1993. As the stars of the revival Harold Lang and Vivienne Segal had already made a studio cast album for Columbia - an album that helped inspire the revival - they were unable to re-record their songs for Capitol, and the label turned to Jane Froman and Dick beavers to fill in. The revised orchestrations sound dated now, but here is a chance to hear Elaine Stritch singing "Zip" and to enjoy the lusty voice of Helen Gallagher early in her career.

In the end it's the WITH A SONG IN MY HEART selections (making their debut on CD here) that make this CD worthwhile. For PAL JOEY the studio recording (available from SONY) is preferable, however if one is so inclined you can assemble your own cast album of the '52 revival by combining tracks from both releases.

4 out of 5 stars "Pal Joey's" Pal.......2006-07-30

While the legubrious and over-orchestrated songs from the film "With a Song in My Heart" are typical of their era (and Jane Froman's stilted renditions are what once stood for emoting) the "Pal Joey" cast recording is an absolute delight. The orchestrations are bouncy and jazzy in a way that has long been forgotten, and the performances (except for the aforementioned Ms. Froman, whose Vulgnarian renditions are at times quite disconcerting, and who hits the sonic notes like lazer beems but misses the emotional ones by a country mile) are exceptional. Helen Gallagher deserved her Tony from the evidence of this recording, with Elaine Stritch not far behind her. But the overall impact surpasses any recording of "Joey" including the historic one that lead to this revival. There's energy, intensity and a whole lot of fantastic song writing (leave it to to Rogers and Hart) to satisfy any musical theater fan. A must have for anyone who loves "Old Broadway."

4 out of 5 stars another great twofer from DRG.......2004-01-21

Jane Froman was one of the top vocalists of her era. Froman's greatness is celebrated in this new 2-on-1 album, which comprises the film soundtrack of WITH A SONG IN MY HEART as well as the 1952 Broadway revival cast album of PAL JOEY.

WITH A SONG IN MY HEART was the life story of Jane Froman, with the lovely Susan Hayward in the lead role. Froman herself supplied the singing for the film. Numbers include "It's a Good Day", the bittersweet and humorous "They're Either Too Young or Too Old", "Blue Moon", "Get Happy", "Tea for Two" and "I'm Thru with Love".

The 1952 Broadway revival of PAL JOEY was the result of the huge success of a studio album released by Columbia the year before (which featured Vivienne Segal reprising her original role of Vera and Harold Lang as Joey). Segal and Lang headlined the new revival with Helen Gallagher (SWEET CHARITY, HAZEL FLAGG) as Gladys Bumps and Elaine Stritch (ON YOUR TOES, GOLDILOCKS) as reporter Melba Snyder.

Having already recorded their roles for the Columbia album, Segal and Lang saw little need in re-recording them for the revival album on the Capitol label. Instead, the roles of Vera and Joey were covered by Jane Froman and Dick Beavers.

The cast album suffers on many levels. First, the absence of Segal and Lang is quite distracting, and secondly the new Overture can't even compare with the scintillanting original.

The Columbia studio album is the version to buy in addition to this, though both albums have their strong and weak points. As per usual, Elaine Stritch brings her impressive and formidable comic timing to the fore in the show-stopping "Zip", and Helen Gallagher's silvery voice is perfect for "That Terrific Rainbow".

A fine addition to your collection. [DRG 19054]

3 out of 5 stars The Skeleton Key - sounds of the old South.......2007-04-11

Dark, stormy listening to take you to the marshlands of New Orleans - at times, clearly a soundtrack, but with tracks from the likes of Robert Johnson and the hoodoo beats of Iko Iko, you'll suddenly feel an inkling for Gumbo like a true bayou-dwelling Creole.

4 out of 5 stars contains every compositional piece from the movie.......2006-08-04

This CD contains what I thought was every compositional piece from the movie. I was hoping the CD in general would be a little more up-beat and personally I found it a little bit boring to listen to. Listen carefully to the music of the movie becuase that is exactly what you get.

5 out of 5 stars good soundtrack.......2006-01-13

If you are fan of the blues, or you simply enjoy eerie instrumental tunes, this soundtrack is for you.
It is very rare for me to find a soundtrack that contains all the songs i liked from a movie. This is the case! It even has Papa Justify's conjuration of sacrifice, those drums really take you to New Orleans Hoodoo streets. A great complement for the fans of the movie .

4 out of 5 stars Review from Equalmusic.com.......2005-10-28

If you are jonesing for the way New Orleans' used to be or are kicking yourself hard because you never made the pilgrimage down before the recent tragedy, then the soundtrack to The Skeleton Key is your best bet. Like the movie, the soundtrack transports the audience into the bayou culture with such ease that at times it's almost hard to believe that you're not in fact below the Mason-Dixon Line. Released on Varese Records, it is the perfect accompaniment to the film.

Composer Edward Shearmur and the Hollywood Studio Symphony bring the flick to life with their bone chilling orchestrations that can creep you out even in the light of day. Those who dig the horror aspect of the film will be pleased with the inclusion of "Conjure of Sacrifice," a spoken track key to the movie's plot. However, the real reason to buy this release is not for its freaky facets but for its spotlight on a few of the most influential blues artists of the twentieth century.

For anyone beginning to cultivate an interest in blues, this is a great foray into the genre and its heavy hitters. First off is Robert Johnson's "Come On In My Kitchen." Johnson, who many have dubbed the father of modern rock and roll, delivers his legendary take on Delta Blues with perfection. Mississippi Fred McDowell, master of the slide guitar, whether it be bottleneck or the apocryphal steak bone, lends his "61 Highway Blues" with a kind of raw integrity.

My vote however, goes to celebrated gospel musician, Blind Willie Johnson. His "God Moves On The Water" with its crackly sound quality, delivers a sucker punch to the soul. Johnny Farmer's "Death Letter" is easily the best track the recording has to offer. Farmer, the only bluesman on the disc still alive and kicking it, loans an infectious ditty that seeps into the skin and refuses to be washed away. Haunting and beat driven, the song is given a modern remix by southern rapper, Organized Noize. The marriage of Delta and hip-hop here is flawless.

Of course there are a few missteps and oddities. Blackbud's "Barefoot Dancing" is a jarring departure from the easy bayou theme. The song is ill suited to both movie and soundtrack, a definite skipper. As is Joe Washburn's "The Goldrush," which despite its melodic back music has a whiny quality that's hard to overlook. "Do Watcha Wanna" by Rebirth Brass Band is an interesting addition. It is a lively big band song that puts one in the mood for Mardi Gras. A rare gem is The Dixie Cups' version of the old Indian Mardi Gras chant "Iko Iko." Although given sinister connotations in the film, it is a fun and upbeat addition to the disc.

Seeped in New Orleans' jazz and Cajun music, the CD captures the music of The Big Easy and its surrounding parishes with forthright conviction. With the latest disaster still a fresh wound, the soundtrack as well as the film is jarring in ways that have nothing to do with the practice of voodoo. However, it is its ability to elegantly capture the culture and feel of the place that make both worth looking into. If only for a little while New Orleans's is returned to its former splendor through the music it has become known for. I suggest seeing the movie first then checking out this superb auxiliary.

5 out of 5 stars Spooky good fun!.......2005-09-01

I bought this soundtrack mostly for the song that played during the opening and end credits, "Death Letter" by Johnny Farmer (with some fun added drum beats and enhancement by Organized Noize). The song (as well as the rest of the soundtrack) was mixed by Chris Fogel. The rest of the soundtrack is a mix of old bayou songs and Edward Shearmur's shamelessly delicious score. It's spooky with a taste of the old South. It's a lot of fun and one of the most entertaining soundtracks I have heard in a while.

I first discovered AG thru the Ronstadt records in the mid 70s, which were largely him on guitars and keys (You're No Good, Heat Wave, When Will I be Loved). His incredible gifts made these songs stand out. When he released his first couple of solo albums I was all ears and as a guitar player, strived to duplicate his sound. The songs were simple, musically very rich, and very listenable. After his 4th album, Whirlwind, I kinda lost track of him. I recently hooked up w/ him again, and listened to a lot of his 90s stuff, which is a bit more complex, but still great. After a couple of listens, songs like KING OF SHOWBIZ and CAN ANYBODY SEE YOU are right up there w/ LONELY BOY and HEARTACHES IN HEARTACHES. All are included here. The (at this point) happy postscript is I met the man, and am now playing in his band! He really is brilliant. Dont let the simple melodies fool you- the chords underneath are complex and many. BUY THIS CD!!

5 out of 5 stars Two good reasons.......2005-10-11

for singles fans to buy this CD: 1) The long version of Lonely Boy. The radio station issued 45 sounds like a bad edit at the end and cuts a great guitar lick from Gold. 2) Never Let Her Slip Away. One of those singles that got lost in the glut of releases in the late 70's. Gold's a real talent, and the liner notes reveal many facts you'll be surprised to learn. There's more to his story than Thank You For Being A Friend.

Andrew Gold is a class songwriter in the same league as Billy Joel or Christopher Cross. His music is moving, real and genuine. If you love popular music in its highest, most original form buy this album and sit back and enjoy - life isn't so bad after all!!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best CDs I've ever heard.......1999-04-16

In my opionion Andrew Gold is one of the greatest underrated singers, musicians, songwriters, producers, engineers, ... of our time. This album contains all of his big hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s. If you are fond of pop music this is the ultimate album. If your looking for light rock music with a dash of country, this is it. Do you like heartbreaking love ballads then this album is a must for you. This CD is simply THE BEST!

Each of the selections in Don Moen's Thank You Lord create a wonderful worship experience. Don's integrity and love for the Lord show in his warm and tender voice. This CD is one that will continue to provide blessings for the listener over and over again!

5 out of 5 stars Great Live Album.......2006-10-04

Super album with some outstanding music. Several songs just caught me the first time I heard them, such as 'Arise', 'Creator King' and 'Throne of Praise.' I don't normally get so caught up in an album like this one - I've heard a lot - but this guy just keeps coming up with new and outstanding music. God bless you Don! May He continue to keep those creative juices flowing!

By the way, does anyone know who that female vocal is that sings on this album - specifically on 'Creator King'? WOW! Can she sing! Would like to hear whoever it is do her own album.

It was only recently I got to know about Don Moen, but ever since then, I have really enjoyed all of Don's songs, and trust me they have really inspired me, and today I'm one of Don's biggest fans.

As a Christian and a believer of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, it's an amazing experience to watch Don's concerts, as it really touches the heart of the listener, and that experience is far beyond words, so amazing.., thank you LORD.

Thank you Don for obeying the word of the Almighty GOD.., Thank you for sharing the love of our LORD JESUS through your songs and praise of worship.

May GOD bless you

5 out of 5 stars Another melodic winner.......2004-10-11

Moen seems to have been around forever as a Christian song writer and worship leader. Perhaps that's why he doesn't seem to get a lot of respect...his name doesn't come to mind immediately when one thinks of today's top worship songwriters.

But he doesn't do his thing for respect, of course. And he's amazingly consistent.

Thank You Lord is the follow-up to I Will Sing, a brilliant live-in-concert worship recording that isn't easy to follow up. But Moen manages to pull it off with his usual smooth vocals and very strong pop arrangements. True, the guy goes to the well too often with dramatic change-of-key climaxes to his songs...that tends to dilute their power a bit...but the songs are so well crafted you can't help but come to a worshipful place.

For me, the standouts are the title track (it's brought me near tears a few times) and This Is Your House. Both should find a place in any church willing to look beyond the Matt Redmans and Chris Tomlins of this world.
Thank You

Album Description

The "THANK YOU" CD features 13 of STP's greatest songs, spanning more than a decade of hits. The compilation also includes a pair of special bonus tracks: the brand-new, previously unreleased "All In The Suit That You Wear" - which is headed to rock radio - along with an acoustic version of "Plush," recorded live on MTV's Headbanger's Ball back in 1992.

This version of "THANK YOU" contains a bonus DVD. The 3-hour, 32-song DVD features a dozen of STP's acclaimed music videos and a collection of brilliant live performances, including a remarkable assortment of "bootlegs" shot by friends and fans of the band. Among the highlights are never-before-seen musical meetings between STP and two of their major influences - a version of "Sweet Emotion" alongside Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, and a rendition of "Wichita Lineman" with the legendary Glen Campbell.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Get the one with the bonus dvd!........2007-02-18

forget the regular cd and get the one with the dvd its almost worth getting especially if you're an STP fan like myself, first of all the greatest hits are missing some of my favorite songs like Crackerman, Meatplow and Silvergun superman not to mention that its missing a couple of song from Shagri-la-dee-da it only has one song from it which was Days of the week which I thought was a weak song but this cd manages to have their awesome hit songs which I'm not complaining about and also has the unreleased song All in the suit that you wear and an unplugged version of Plush which was a bit boring, STP were one of the best and most influential rock groups to come out of the 90's while critics thought that they were a Pearl Jam clone or rippoff group it didn't seem to affect thier success, the Deleo brothers managed to make some of the best sounding melodic riffs ever and also did alot of great catchy songs whether it was a slow acoustic ballad like Creep and Sour girl or a hard driving rock song like Vasoline,Sex type thing ect not to mention Scott Weiland who was a great frontman and singer who was very mysterious and had a great personality and wrote some good lyrics despite his drug problems.

Anyway if you're a casual fan of STP and heard some of thier songs on the radio then you might wanna check this out, I think that the first half of the cd from tracks 1-8 had the best track listing and the songs flow together very well songs like Wicked garden, Plush, Creep and Sex type thing are from the debut album Core and this album is a classic grunge hard rock/metal album from the 90's each song from that album in my opinion gets a 5/5 star rating no questions asked. Vasoline, Big empty and Interstate love song are from the second album Purple which is one of my personal favorite albums from STP and it continues the heavy sound from the previous album only it has become more hard rock and alternative this album would definetely get a high score 5/5 stars. The big bang baby, Lady picture show and Trippin' on a hole are from the third album Tiny Music...Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop you could tell that the group experimented alot on this album and it was a bit slower and softer than the previous two but still good, to me it sounded like they had a 60's psychedelic rock influence on this particular album with some boring songs and some that were good it was a mix of the same STP style of music which is very good 4/5. Down and Sour girl are both from NO. 4 which is my least favorite album from them cause it seems to be missing the same energy and creativity from the other albums it gets 3/5 they should have included Heaven and hot rods its like a mix of all the styles from the previous album into one. Days of the week is from Shangri-la-di-da, in my honest opinion this album was very underrated and should have been more successful but it wasn't its still great though and is a fantastic final album from these guys who were still rocking out loud 5/5.

The bonus dvd was great I mean what can I say its the type of dvd that you'll end up watching over and over again without being bored. It has some edited together clips of live shows from STP throughout the years then you also have some bootleg footage shot by fans so the quality wasn't so good and just barely watchable maybe once or twice but then thats it. You also have all of STP's music videos which was the best part of this dvd, they are absolutely phenomenal and there is a photo gallery with some amusing pictures of the band. I highly recommend this greatest hits cd/dvd.

5 out of 5 stars Thank You.......2007-01-28

Stone Temple Pilots has long been one of my favorite bands. Vocalist Scott Weiland, guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo, and drummer Eric Kretz all combined their musical abilities which resulted in 5 full-length albums. Despite the fact that when they released their first CD "Core" they were written off as just another grunge band, a Pearl Jam/Nirvana wannabe, they proved their merit and have written some of my favorite songs. Despite being a fan of STP, my preferences differ from a lot of STP fans. I love 4 of their albums, I like 1 album, and I hate none. My favorite album is "No. 4" an album that usually ranks near the bottom of a STP fans list. My least favorite is "Tiny Music...Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop." There is so much talent in this band. Vocalist/Lyricist Scott Weiland has such great range and a lot of his lyrics rank right up there with Jim Morrison, one of his heroes. Not all of his lyrics are great, but the great ones are some of the best. Lines like "I wanna drink from your naked fountain" and "You're the wonder in everything that's wonderful" still make me laugh and wish that I were that talented. The DeLeo Brothers (now in Army of Anyone, a band with a lot of potential if they last) were and are great at writing and playing music. They have a knack for writing catchy harmonies and hooks, some of them the most recognizable in rock. As for drummer Eric Kretz, the guy is nothing special compared to the likes of Neil Peart or John Bonham or David Grohl but he works great in this band. Now here's the bands Greatest Hits, entitled "Thank You." Rating a "Greatest Hits" CD is hard to do. Even the most casual fan of a band complains about the hits, because most Greatest Hits CD feature songs you've grown sick of and rarely feature the fan favorites. This CD is great as a compilation. Are there songs that should've been put on here? Yes...Some of my favorite STP songs are the most underrated ones. I would've liked to see songs like I Got You, Wonderful, Pretty Penny, and Dead & Bloated on here but you can't judge a CD by what you want but what it has. This has great songs on it, my favorites being "Big Bang Baby" and "Wicked Garden." All the songs are good, but the thing that really makes "Thank You" special is the DVD. STP never put out a DVD, so this is the only chance you're going to have to get Live Performances, Music Videos, and Bootleg Concert Footage. The DVD is superb and gives you a taste of how great Stone Temple Pilots were. This should be the deciding factor of buying the CD. Before I list the songs and what I think of them, I also want to note the cover of the CD. What appears to be just a hand holding a flower over a field of flowers (which makes a great cover by itself) opens up to be one of my favorite covers of all time:

1. Vasoline-5/5-I love this song. It's just a great, catchy tune. The lyrics aren't spectacular, but it's still great.
2. Down-4/5-This is a popular song and I like it, but it's overrated.
3. Wicked Garden-5/5-Some of their best lyrics, just great (sort of) quotable lines. It's one of their best.
4. Big Empty-5/5-Starts off slow, leading to a memorable chorus. The music to the song is superb and Weiland's whisper-singing is perfect.
5. Plush-5/5-This song is catchy and has some unique lyrics ("And I feel so much depends on the weather/so is it raining in your bedroom?)
6. Big Bang Baby-5/5-One of my favorite STP songs. It's annoying and catchy and I absolutely love it.
7. Creep-5/5-This song is much slower than the songs that come before it, but it's one of my favorite STP songs. It's got spectacular lyrics, that clearly came from Scott Weiland's heart which is made even more obvious by how he sings it.
8. Lady Picture Show-4/5-This song is off the bands worst album "Tiny Music...Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop." It's a good song, but not great. The chorus is the best and the lyrics are interesting, even though they don't make a whole lot of sense.
9. Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart-5/5-Also off "Tiny Music" this song is great. I know some people find it annoying, but it's catchy and got stuck in my head. If a song gets stuck in my head and I don't care, I consider it a good song. This one, however, is great.
10. Interstate Love Song-5/5-One of the most recognizable guitar hooks in rock music. This song is on the radio all the time but has never got old for me.
11. All in the Suit That You Wear-5/5-This song is previously unreleased. If they recorded it for this CD alone, it's a nice addition. If it was just dropped from an album, that's too bad...It would've made a great track.
12. Sex Type Thing-5/5-Perspectives differ about what this song is about. I don't really care. It's very catchy and certain samples of the lyrics are so great.
13. Days of the Week-5/5-I've heard this song a lot, so I've warn it out. I don't like it as much as I used too, but the first 100 times I heard it I loved it. It's poppy, but it's still got the STP mark on it.
14. Sour Girl-5/5-I can relate to these lyrics, which might make me like it more than I would. But I think this is a great song through-and-through, expertly crafted in every way.
15. Plush (Accoustic)-5/5-A wonderful accoustic version of the song.
GRADE: A

5 out of 5 stars flawed HIT collection???.......2006-01-28

This is not a flawed HIT collection, cause these are the biggest songs STP had, all the classics are here + some lesser knows (Days of The Week) and a new song 'All In The Suit That You Wear' and as a "bonus" the perfect acoustic live take of 'Plush', what more could you want/expect?
Sure a few fan-favourites (that also made radio..) like 'Dead & Bloated' & the Led Zeppelin cover 'Dancing Days' could've been here, but oh well, when I think about STP 90% of their songs coul've been here!!! they were so great! If I think about the albums 'Core' & 'Purple' NONE of the songs are below great!
So, the cd alone is good, but a bit pointless to buy if you have all their other albums, but, since there's a DVD included, this package is just awesome! All their videos, about 15 live performances, bootlegs and a picture gallery..smashing!!

5 out of 5 stars Buy IT For The DVD Not The CD!!!!!!!!!.......2006-01-05

You see these people write long diatribes about why you shouldn't buy "Thank You", I am gonna give you reasons why you should. First and foremost the DVD is excellent. As long as you understand what bootleg footage is then you won't be dissappointed with it. The videos are great to have, the live footage is awesome, and the thrown in bootleg footage is icing on the cake for the hardcore fan. This DVD contains over three hours of material. For one, it is not uncommon for a DVD that contains that many videos and that much concert footage to cost around 20 or 25 dollars by itself. Therefore it makes the CD the bonus. The highlight of the DVD is the more poplular live acoustic performance of Plush. Some of these conspiracy theory reviews are almost comical. As a person who collects live DVDs, I think it is well worth it.

4 out of 5 stars Flawed Hits Collection Saved By Bonus DVD..........2006-01-01

Stone Temple Pilots were nimble rock craftsmen. They tasted the peaks of success, and they also tasted the valleys of trouble. Selling nearly 30 millions albums worldwide, Stone Temple Pilots certainly dented a niche for themselves in the rock world. They were tagged by critics and dismissed as "Seattle wanna-be's". But they survived and won over massive followings, and while there are still people out there who don't like them, they don't matter (just like the people who don't like Cannibal Corpse, so what?) because the fans matter most to the band. THANK YOU is a retrospective that, while not perfect, contains some really good songs and a bonus dvd with over 3 hours of music videos, live footage, bootleg footage, and much more. It makes the tracklisting on the disc portion forgivable.

On the plus side of this collection, you get the big hits here like the majestic roar of "Plush"; the acoustic crawl of "Creep"; the terrific drive song "Interstate Love Song"; and even the powerful and mighty "Big Empty". Most of the great songs are included on here, but then there's the cons of the collection. Missing from the selections: the riff monster "Dead & Bloated"; the thrashing "Unglued"; the full-throttle stomp of "Heaven & Hot Rods"; and the terrific cover of Led Zeppelin's "Dancing Days". Even a song like "Tumble In The Rough" should be on here, but so should "Pretty Penny". Anyways, you get the picture. This does not encompass all their best songs, but it certainly contains a number of their big hits.

The DVD portion is an STP fans dream. You get all the videos, tons of concert footage, and bootleg performances that are mostly decent in quality. It's worth the price of this set alone. You should set aside three hours and more to sift through the excellent DVD that's been included here.

THANK YOU isn't the best "greatest hits" to grace music stores, but it certainly is a solid collection. While leaving off some really good songs that would have easily fit in (the disc is only 58 minutes long), the companion DVD is phenomenal. THANK YOU is a fond and memorable farewell to fans who, for more than 10 years, were intrigued, enchanted by, and rocked their heads off to these four rock stars from southern California.
Thank You

5 out of 5 stars Declan Growing Up.......2007-07-10

Declan has grown up and is now a young teenage singer with the same wonderful voice that captivated millions when he was first discovered.

Declan can still sing with the best and does a fantastic rendition of "Angel" this boy singer will always be a favorite of mine and I am in his debt for his ability to make me think of "being Home Once again" .

Declan u deserve all the plaudits and awards that are coming to you. I will always remember you singing "Why" as a young kid with such passion and feeling , many an adult would do as well to think even just a little about why , and maybe we would all be a better person.

5 out of 5 stars Another Heintje perhaps.......2007-04-24

I first heard of Declan through a Bee Gees site where it was noted he recorded two of their songs for this Album - Saved By The Bell (Robin Gibb) & Only One Woman (Written by the Bee Gees for their cousin Graham Bonnet & Trevor Gorden [The Marbles]). Heard both tracks from an online site and loved them so much, decided to buy the whole album.

I collect all Gibb related songs and have many versions of these two but I must say, Declan has done them better than most. I agree with some other comments here that some of the production / lyrical content etc may not be to the highest standards but this will improve as Declan ages and gains more control of his career.

I refer to the Dutch singer Heintje (though many believe he is German)in my title because that's who he reminds me of. A young man with an excellent pure voice; hughly popular in Germany and throughout most of Europe, just as his predecessor was around 40 years ago (man am I showing my age. If history repeasts itself, Declan is in for a long and hughly sucessful career. Go for it and enjoy the ride.

5 out of 5 stars Declan's BACK!!!!!.......2007-03-11

NOW it's available thru the American Amazon!!! When I first heard about this album, I discovered it would be available thru Amazon.de, the German equivalent of this site. I ordered it on the day it was released in Germany, but it did not get here until near the end of February. So much for improved international shipping.

Why I seem to like younger singers is something that I have never figured out. I found out about Declan quite by accident, shortly after his first album was released, when I was using KaZaA, (which is so inundated with spyware now, don't use it!)and looking for Billy Gilman songs which weren't on One Voice, and it gave me one of his songs by accident, and I LOVED IT! I soon found his first album for sale on eBay, though I had a little trouble with the inter-country currency transaction (it came from UK), which demonstrates why this planet should have a single currency. I've been enjoying his first album, as well as his Tell Me Why single, which contains a version of Auld Lang Syne, which cannot be found on his first album, ever since then. Then a few months back, I found out about this album!
It has been three years since then 9-year-old Declan Galbraith released his debut album (rather long slump there.) but the wait has not been in vain! His voice has matured somewhat, giving indications he is entering adolescence, ie: the Bane of a great young voice. Look at what happened to Billy Gilman!
But his selection of songs is a wonderfully eclectic collection, including two favorites of mine; "Starry Starry Night", which I first heard performed by Josh Groban, and "Bright Eyes", originally presented to me by the beautifully voiced Joseph McManners. Hearing these songs made me fall in love all over again! :)

Other songs on this great album include "Angel", "Love of My Life", "Tears in Heaven", and several other great hits, which will provide you with much enjoyment. You can check the German Amazon for audio samples, if you want to hear them.

Still, I hope Declan doesn't take too long for his next album! The same goes for my other top favorite boy singer from the UK, Joseph McManners!
Keep 'em coming, guys, before time ruins those wonderful, clean, pure, young voices!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic album.......2007-03-04

If you were to take a 9 year old boy and have him sing in St.Paul's cathedral to the Queen of England on the occasion of her Jubalee, support Elton John on stage in front of 25,000 people, break a Gueness record for a supporting chorus of 9,000 children singing "Tell me why", you will have Declan Galbraith. Enough said.

4 out of 5 stars An understandably imperfect album .......2007-03-04

Yes, thank you indeed, Declan, particularly to all the solicitors and agents whose restrictions made it impossible for one of the most amazing young talents to record for the last four years.

Declan doesn't yet have full content control, but this situation should improve in the future. It is pretty clear that he was not the one who decided the "House of the Rising Sun" lyrics were age-inappropriate, or that alternate lyrics about a man who failed to become a king because of sloshing down a few too many drams of stout are somehow preferable. It's been the ruin of many a poor song, and Lord, I know this is one... Maybe after this album, a shortage of fresh material will no longer be a problem?

Production goes a little astray in a few places. The most grating are the incessant triangle pinging and the disembodied German voice in "David's Song." If you really need a recitation of some kind, please use Declan's voice, and give him something worth saying!

The hugely over-covered "Sailing," "Tears in Heaven" and "Bright Eyes" -- well dope slap me. These are as good as anything I've ever heard, including the originals. The lyrics of "An Angel" remain unchanged and sappy as ever, so why can't I get this tune out of my head? While Declan is good, very good, at the ballads such as "Love of My Life" and "Vincent," he has the kind of control and range to excel with the grand and pretentious "Nights in White Satin" as well. He clearly hasn't found his groove yet. A few experimental tunes at the end, such as "Last Unicorn" and "Where Did Our Love Go" didn't really fit this album, but so what? They are well done, even if an odd way to finish.

A word of warning, Declan already has a distinctive style, with accurate enunciation and a slightly nasal tone that would work well (shudder and choke!) for country music. It is not excessive, but some will love it and others -- not. Perhaps it is an acquired taste. Well, I for one have acquired it. This album is not quite there with "Dark Side of the Moon", "Kind of Blue" and "Sergeant Pepper's" in terms of perfection, but the elements are waiting to happen. I can't wait for the next album.

Based on Christopher Buckley's eponymous novel, Thank You for Smoking cynically and gleefully sends up the more PC aspects of our times. The first nine tracks are all golden oldies culled from a time--mostly the 1940s and 1950s--when smoke getting in your eyes was considered romantic, not second-hand poisoning, such as the Platters' version of Jerome Kern's "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes"). Those familiar with kd lang's version of "Smoke Rings" will love the Mills Brothers' earlier version from 1932. The track is actual typical of the album, which not only offers those-were-the-days takes on smoking, but almost as many lessons on vocal styling. Group harmonies by the aforementioned Mills Brothers and the Swingle Singers' take on Bach's "Little Organ Fugue," for instance, are dazzling, while Patsy Cline ("Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray") and Otis Redding ("Cigarettes and Coffee") shine solo. In a completely different register, Jerry Reed's 1972 ode to addiction, "Another Puff," is punctuated by unappetizing coughs; Reed rasping lines "Give it to me! Give it to me! I love it! I love it! I love it!" and "You quit smoking, that'll leave more for me!" are followed by a maniacal laugh. The last four instrumental tracks consist of Rolfe Kent's original score; they maintain an appropriate lounge-lizardy mood but pale in comparison to the nuggets that precede them. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
