Novelist Robert Ludlum's amnesia-plagued, tough-as-nails spy/assassin Jason Bourne again proves that success begats sequels, be they literary or cinematic. As he did for the saga's initial big screen installment, composer John Powell concocts an electro-orchestral fusion score that seasons its tense, bristling rhythms with dollops of melodicism, synth-atmospherics and staccato string figures. Those welcome touches hearken back to composer's similar work on the '03 action-thriller The Italian Job, with Powell initially evoking the film's exotic locales by employing a savory synth pop-meets-Eastern European palate. The tension-building rhythms and percussion flourishes familiar from Powell's other action-centric scores are the score's musical pulse -- even if they eventually upset the finely honed balancing act by boiling over into the familiar explosive cliches of all too many thriller scores. --Jerry McCulley

I wrote a very positive review of the soundtrack for "The Bourne Identity"...I was right to do so. This soundtrack; however, is even better!

What can I say...the wonderful musial selections to this great movie are all here...I suggest buying a copy now...if you are a Bourne fan.

One other note of interest...this sound track included Moby's song, "Extreme Ways" this time...an obvious oversight corrected from the last soundtrack

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Listen.......2006-02-15

I enjoyed this soundtrack immensely. Having heard the background themes to the Bourne movies from the movie, I knew right away that I would like the soundtrack.
The soundtrack is mainly a combination of electronic and orchestral themes except for the last song by Moby, "Extreme Ways". Instead of basing the soundtrack on one or two main riffs, the pieces rely on multiple riffs. While in some respect I wished that John Powell could have expanded some of the pieces (like Gao), I was satisfied that there was enough genuinely unique material throughout.
Regarding the song-content on this album, there is mainly orchestral pieces as mentioned earlier. I did some research on-line and found that the song in the chase-scene of the first Bourne series, The Bourne Identity, is by Paul Oakenfold - 'Ready Steady Go'. Also, the club music in the second Bourne series, The Bourne Supremecy, is by Mocean Worker - 'IntoThinAir'. Two great artists that I hardly knew about before the Bourne series.

5 out of 5 stars Best soundtrack I've listened to........2006-01-16

I listen to this album on my five-hour drives between home and college. You'd think I'd get tired of the songs, but I don't. The time goes very fast when listening to this album. However, several of the songs make me want to imitate the car chase sequence in the film. So, although this album is truly wonderful, drive carefully while listening to it.

I have never bought a soundtrack before. This is my first. I just love this music! I can't get it out of my head!

Does anyone know if the music from early in the film where Matt Damon is running on the beach is on here? Really want to find the artist/song name. Any help is appreciated.

3 out of 5 stars Same Old, Same Old..........2007-07-31

I will make this short and sweet, there is nothing original about this CD,or anything else HATEBREED has done. Ther last three CD's have all been the same heavy riffs over and over. Yes,it's very heavy in your face, but it never changes and after a couple of times,it gets OLD!

2 out of 5 stars Hatebreed trying to immitate Hatebreed.......2007-07-05

When Hatebreed initially "made it big" with their record 'Satisfaction is the Death of Desire', the entire hardcore scene was flush with crappy bands trying to immitate Hatebreed. This record sounds like Hatebreed is trying to immitate themselves.

5 out of 5 stars READ MY REVIEW!! (If you haven't heard it yet).......2007-05-18

OK listen, don't listen to those that said that this album sucks, because if you think so, you have no life. THIS IS THE BEST HARDCORE ALBUM EVER!!!
Impressive guitars for a hardcore band, and very strong, deep vocals! They sound more brutal than ever! "Horrors of Self" had a dark part in the beginning with a loud screaming! "Give Wings To My Triumph" and "Immortal Enemies" are the best tracks ever! "To The Threshold" was a song that actually sends messages or tell a story behind it. The music video was pretty weird too. Leave it to Roadrunner records to have kick-a** bands! "Never Let It Die" had a catchy beginning, and "Destroy Everything" does repeat the chorus often. "Defeatist" is a good song, with great guitars and fast vocals!

Best tracks:

3. "Mind Over All" 10/10- Short and sweet. Has a screaming part with some angry guitars!

5. "Give Wings To My Triumph" 11/10- God, I love this song! With a soft, dark side in the beginning then out came Jamey's loud vocals! Very catchy singing and chorus!

8. "Immortal Enemies" 11/10- Great drumming part in the beginning, and very catchy guitars too! Love Jamey's vocals here! Just love it!

11. "Spitting Venom" 10/10- Great beginning, has similiar vocal styles from "Give Wings To My Triumph".

12. "As Diehard As They Come" 10/10- Good guitars at the beginning, has a groovy part as they chant out "YOU ARE! As diehard as they come!" with some drummings too!

5 out of 5 stars GREAT HARDCORE!!!.......2007-03-07

This album is faster, heavier, and more angry than theirn other albums! Great hardcore! So many people keep saying that Hatebreed is metal! To me, they sound nothing like metal, just by their lyrics and the way they sound, their music is fast and short. Exactly like hardcore. "To The Thresold" is about people who bares scars from an abusive childhood, just by watcfhing the video. "Defeatist" had the speed and the hating lyrics. This band sounds so much like Bury Your Dead (when they had Mat as ex-singer) and Sick of It All! I can tell that Hatebreed is definetly not thrash metal! I don't understand why soooo many keepsaying that their lyrics are weird and not good. Jamey's voclas sounds a lot less throaty like their first album, and their music and guitars sound faster and thicker! This is a perfect hardcore album! GET THIS!!! And check out te band Sick Of It All!

3 out of 5 stars Good enough (if you're not too picky).......2007-01-26

It's hard to find much talent among the generation of post-Pantera metal bands.

Vocally: weak (although this is to be expected; none of these guys can actually sing).

Lyrically: kind of interesting in parts.

Songwriting: adequate. I didn't hear a lot of variation. Nothing really interesting. The songs do tend to sound a bit alike.

Guitar work: dull with brief moments of butt-kicking. There were a couple pretty cool riffs but, overall, pretty mundane.

People seem to think that earlier albums are better (this is my first Hatebreed experience) but, based on this recording, I'd say that they don't have much going for them. I feel like I'm being generous giving them 3-stars (but I like the heavy stuff generally). These guys aren't great but there a bands a lot worse out there selling records.

Composed of rappers King Self, Negashi Armada, and rapper/uber-producer Dope Pope, Supreeme is a direct result of the growing convergence of urban style and high-end craftsmanship. Their debut, executive produced by West coast hip-hop legend MURS, will be supported by a national tour with MURS, 9th Wonder, and Brother Ali.

5 out of 5 stars This Guys Better Make it Big.......2007-04-23

Supreeme's debut album is witty, intelligent and is truly a refreshing break from everything else that's coming out of Georgia these days. I've lived in Atlanta most of my life and remember when these guys were in school; always were very talented. King Self, Negashi and Dope Pope are great guys who've made one of the finest CDs I've heard in ages and deserve the best.

5 out of 5 stars Wow.......2006-11-03

First off I HATE new southern rap(its definitly not hip-hop). YOung Jeezy(Jizm), TI, even Bun-B[...] and all the texas wackness (Pall balls, slim chugg, and whoever else)and of course the NY posers trying to copy them (why??) like dipset. When I first heard this cd and all of its 808 drums and 80's style bass, i almost threw it away. But this album is NOT wack. It is one of the best albums I have heard this year and any year. It still does kind of sound like the southern crap that's out today, but the subject matter is not ignorant; its funny and refreshing. I can't stop listening to this album. As a fan of golden era rap, I recommend anyone to listen to this album and not like it. Just listen to the album from start to finish. I can't explain how good this album is. MURS is the executive producer, and he is one of the greatest ever (yeah, he is better than almost everyone you've ever heard.) Just go and buy it, on marketplace its less than 3 dollars and you sould send $10 that you saved to supreem so that they can make more albums. This is the next outkast in 2006. Here's to hoping that none of them do acid like A3000 and Big Boi and create more hip-hop like this!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing........2006-09-13

I went to highschool with these cats. They were amazing back then and the same shines here. Farewell Wenches alone is amazing. All the beats and lyrics are refreshing. This might be the best CD of the year.

4 out of 5 stars A solid effort.......2006-08-07

This cd has been on heavy rotation since I got it. The beats have that old skool drum machine vibe with some nice vocals laid into them, you can definately hear the influence of 9th Wonder in the beats. The beats are also the reason why I didn't give this five stars, they get a little repetative after repeat listenings. The lyrics are refreshing, no talk of gunplay or crack sales here.

5 out of 5 stars you know i had to give it five stars.......2006-06-19

Redeemer has less sid than their previous album, Deus Ex Machinae, but still a very solid sound with deep lyrics. This band is underrated merely because they've held out for so long before signing with a major record label. Although they sing in English, most of their fanbase is in europe (sweden most specifically). I doubt their pro-mp3 status would survive very long in America.

One thing that sets this group aside from any others is the sid machine. It was used in commodore 64 games and this is the only band i have found to date that uses it in a professional manner. I highly recommend downloading sidology episode 2 (trinity) from their website for a good example.

4 out of 5 stars Whew!.......2007-02-22

Cryptopsy's 1998 album, "Whisper Supremacy," is, quite simply, a ferocious, ceaseless, and monstrous onslaught. Skinsman Flo Mounier's polyrhythmic, walloping, hyper-speed blasts are mind-blowingly technical (as evidenced by such songs as "White Worms" and "Depths You've Fallen"), and the massive, chaotic rhythms pulverize the listener incessantly. Then funky, slapped bass lines, and vocals (by Mike DiSalvo, who debuted with the band on this disc) that are delivered in the form of undecipherable grunts, roaring bellows, and sharp, high-pitched barks are added to the mix. But there's no doubt that the devastating, white hot, highly discordant, ear-bleeding riffs are the sound's main focal point. Guitarists Jon Levasseur and Miguel Roy rip through every song with smoke-inducing speed. Plus, their waves of monstrous riffs and crushing leads sound even better when they're backed by a production job that's as crisp and clear as this one. For proof, consider the first and third tracks: "Emaciate" and "Loathe," two blinding maelstroms of explosive, rapid fire, speaker shredding guitar noise which is almost deafening. Also, "Cold Hate, Warm Blood" is highlighted by a jackhammer rhythm, a slow breakdown, and a superb, lengthy guitar solo; "Faceless Unknown" is a lumbering, cascading beat; and "Serpents Coil" boasts rapid, blistering riffs. By album's end, the listener has almost never felt so clobbered. And even though there are a few standout tracks, most of the album blends together, and the songs are generally not as catchy as those on Cryptopsy's 1996 disc, "None So Vile." But if you like your metal lightning fast and thunderously loud, or if you just feel like being beaten into a bloody pulp, you should definitely already own "Whisper Supremacy." Just make sure you listen with rested ears, and a heart that can withstand almost anything.

4 out of 5 stars Brutal death metal served the Canadian way..........2006-08-02

Ok, first I'd like to say that I wasn't a big death metal fan before I heard Cryptopsy. Thankfully Cryptopsy opened my eyes and forced me to look further and discover quite a few bands that were really worth it in the death metal genre. Now to the album. Cryptopsy is not your typical death metal band. Their songs, even though short in length, are very technical and with numerous changes throughout them. What's really adding to their music is their very strong rhythm section. The drummer is absolutely amazing , switching through different tempos and never keeping a single rhythm for more than 20 seconds (!!!) and the bass is really in the front in comparison to other similar acts. The lyrics are nothing too special but certainly better than the gore themes most death metal bands use. Overall, this is a must have for death metal fans and very recommended to any other fan of metal music. The vocals and the technicality might be too much for some people, but that's Cryptopsy!

5 out of 5 stars Cryptopsy is Brilliant, Regardless of the Frontman!.......2006-07-31

I prefer Lord Worm's distinguished bark as witnessed on None So Vile, as do many other reviewers; so does that mean that DiSalvo is worthless? Of course not! DiSalvo sounds great as Cryptopsy's vocalist. I enjoyed every moment of Whisper Supremacy as much as I did None So Vile, and some aspects of it may arguably be superior. Really, I don't understand some of the criticisms of DiSalvo's performance, such as "he's too 'Hardcore'." Ummmmmm, even if that is true, since when is that such a bad thing???? Could someone fill me in if I'm just completely missing something? In the meantime, trust me, this band is sheer genius, and this album is one of their finest moments!

5 out of 5 stars The way death metal SHOULD be done........2006-07-21

Cryptopsy are a special band, one of the elite few who still strive to push the boundaries of music. They constantly strive for more speed, more brutality and more complexity, and in doing so rise head and shoulders above your run-of-the-mill Deicide clone. And in case you haven't guessed, "Whisper Supremacy" is no exception.

For a band famed for their near-unrivalled savagery, "Whisper Supremacy" came as a surprise to me in just how musical it actually was. Through the dense, complex instrumental lines, intricate song structures which completely ignore the concept of verse/chorus and noticeably clear production (you can hear the bass! on a death metal album!), a rich, layered soundscape portraying unbeleivable power emerges. At the forefront lie the dual guitar harmonies, both intricately complex and fiendishly fast, yet still undeniably musical. Never is this demonstrated better than in the solos. Generally, I find death metal solos to be the epitome of technical wankery, a chance for the guitarist to show off his skill while not being at all pleasant to listen to. Cryptopsy, on the other hand, work their solos into the song structures (although, admittedly, maybe not the mix) to provide a genuinely climatic feel. The bass also plays its part, buttressing the guitar work and giving it a thicker, overall more powerful feel.

The drumming: ah yes, where would a Cryptopsy review be without mention of the demigod Flo Mounier? This man desrves every inch of his reputation. 32nd note blast beats (an achievement in itself) stop and start without warning; cymbals are used in haunting rhythms reminiscient of the most intense forms of black metal such as Keep Of Kalessin and early Immortal, and the snare drum is used sparingly enough to correctly place emphasis on the power that drum can portray, without going overboard into the ceaseless jackhammer beats found in Nile and Hate Eternal. Altogether, this serves to provide the perfect backbone of brutality to "Whisper Supremacy".

And finally we come to the vocals. Sorry all you diehard "None So Vile" fans, but as good as Lord Worm's ungodly rasps are, Mike DiSalvo's animal-like roars are a much more fitting accompaniment to the dense power of Cryptopsy's music, so much so that they even seem to have a groove of their own. What really makes them special is how he succeeds in synchronising with the instrumental work, changing in pitch or power to match with the guitars and drums. Make no mistake; when DiSalvo unleashes one of his gargantuan howls at the same time as the guitars come out with an especially fretboard-melting riff, he ensres that the power that riff should convey is not lost on an unattentive listener.

Yep, you guessed it. I proclaim "Whisper Supremacy" to be a triumph, a monument to the titan that is death metal. With brutality enough to bludgeon anyone into submission, combined with a soundscape complex and rich enough to rival Dark Tranquillity's "The Gallery," it has earned its way into the hearts and collections of anyone who calls themself a headbanger. Get it now.

4 out of 5 stars Enter DiSalvo: Another fine effort by Cryptopsy........2006-07-15

My 1st introduction to Cryptopsy was None So Vile. When I got it I first popped it into my friends car CD. It was close to midnight and we were like "dude this is really bad stuff". But then I listened to this with an open mind and got it had a lotta potential, then I rated it 4 on Amazon. But then I really started to love it so I've decided to get into their other stuff. I was pretty sure they won't make anything heavier than NSV, so quite frankly they didn't (although I know Blasphemy Made Flesh was meant to be heavier but it was held back by the shi t production) but still don't get me wrong, this still can make the angry Slipknot fan rip himself apart. Other than that there is not much change except that Lord Worm was replaced by Mike DiSalvo who is a more comprehendable vocalist, although his growl is not as harsh as Lord Worm's. Flo Mounier's drumming is incredibly fast and the bass is very heavy and the guitar solos are very good although not as good or fast as those of Slayer and Suffocation. This album is also more well-produced than 'Blasphemy' and 'Vile'. Highlights include 'Loathe', 'Flame To The Surface' & 'Faceless Unknown'.

I don't think it's as good as NSV, maybe I could like this more if I was getting this one first. Not trying to turn off anyone, infact, I suggest that if you're new then START HERE. Cuz this is easier to get into and if you like it you would have no problem to see the brilliance of None So Vile and immediately be blown away!

Belief System is about healing. The message is life, spirit and erotic "nrg." Acey's latest CD is an absolute 'must have' for all who love his work.
