Clipse ran into delays in following up to 2002's Lord Willin' and in their absence their crack rap style has been adopted by the likes of Young Jeezy and Lil' Wayne. However, no one seems to floss as outrageously as Clipse's Pusha T and Malice. Hell Hath No Fury isn't as well-assembled as Lord Willin' or as spontaneous as Clipse's lauded mix-CDs from 2005 but it is coldly efficient in knocking out 12 songs backed with superbly dark and sparse tracks by the Neptunes. It's a tight, tidy package with a flint-hard but not overly seriously street aesthetic. Detractors will rightfully note the amorality of it all, but when Clipse are dropping playful lines about being "in touch with the keys/move over Alicia," you realize that all they're really pushing is style. --Oliver Wang
Album Description
Clipse "Hell Hath No Fury" Clipse are officially back, and time hasn't beaten them down or fattened them up, it's just honed their meticulous craft, broadened their vision and pissed them off. They're better - and angrier- than ever. This album features the singles "Mr. Me Too," featuring Pharrell and "Wamp Wamp (What It Do)," featuring Slum Thug. Hell Hath No Fury strikes a brilliant balance between futurism and nostalgia. It's an album of lyrics-driven hip-hop in the spirit of east coast rap's early '90s heyday, but it's also powered by the noisiest, meanest, most space-age production the Neptunes have ever served up.

Undeniable.......2007-07-29
The Clipse's latest CD, Hell Hath No Fury, is mean, sparse, spare, and above all excellent. Endless disputes with the duo's label, Jive, put this album on the shelf for years. This lead the Virginia-based duo to approach this album with a cold fury that they turn into a completely un-sentimental desire to succeed at all costs.
The music on this album is a strange mix. The Neptune's handle every track on this album. Their production is futuristic. Not Jazze Pha-esque bubbly happy futuristic, but cold, dark, and sparse. Think "ATLiens" Outkast futuristic, but full of synthisizers and bleak percussion.
While their production is very 21st century, lyrically the duo recalls the Mafioso rap of the '90s. They're lyrics transcend the coke trade and deal almost completely with the drug's effect on their lives, economically, materially, and psychologically.
With every coke-slangin' MC in hip-hop, the obvious question is raised, "Did they really sell it?" To those asking this question of this duo I say, "Does it matter?" They are the two best pure lyricists I have ever heard below the Mason Dixon, and easily in the top three in hip-hop today. They are capable of spinning revealing, humerous, self-aware lines completely effortlessly. See the first full track on the album "Momma, I'm So Sorry" ("I philosophize about glocks and keys/n****s call me young black Socrates") and the best track on the album, "Trill"
("Sell Bolivian/Feds in oblivian/b**** Brazillian/purse reptilian/took her from far off island like Gilligan")
The duo change lyrical gears constantly this album. There's vainglory ("Trill"), paranoia ("Nightmares") apology ("Momma I'm So Sorry") and the hollow, extremely guilty spending spree track "Dirty Money".
The sparse, cold production in this album is top notch. Lyrically, the Clipse can run circles around almost anyone in hip-hop. I highly recommend this album to any fan of hip-hop today.
Raw Rap........2007-06-09
This is my first Clipse album, thus, other then the popular singles from the radio, I have no frame of reference for their style of rap. Having said that, this album is simple but raw. Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo (the Neptunes) lay down some simple but crazy and hypnotizing beats; these beats perfectly compliment Malice & Pusha T's style. Malic & Pusha T don't stutter (50-cent), have exceptionally terrible grammar (Kanye West), or talk a lot of slang (every other rapper) .... they succinctly deliver sharp lyrics. I believe them. They are poets.
I have rated this album 4 stars ... if I could give it 4.5 I would. The album is 48 minutes ... 12 trakcs of average length. I wish it had a few more tracks on it. The songs are great, however the album lacks a unifying theme. Not necessarily random ... but not together either. That does not however take away from the complete whole. Very good tunes.
---------- Breakdown ----------
1. We Got it for Cheap (Intro) - 3.5 stars - Great lyrics, great beat, just a terrible hook.
2. Momma I'm so Sorry - 5 stars - Excellent accordion beat ... excellent lyrics ... great song.
3. Mr. Me Too ft. Pharrell - 4.5 stars - You all know a one upper or a "Mr. Me Too" ... hypnotizing beat
4. Wamp Wamp (What it Do) - 4 stars - Not crazy about the beginning of the song, but it gets better. Interesting bag pipe beat
5. Ride Around Shining - 4.5 stars - Nice lyrics, crazy beat! Feels like a Gameboy hook "Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!"
6. Dirty Money - 3.0 stars - Egh, ok.
7. Hello New World ft. Pharrell - 4.5 stars - More serious song ... nice beat ... excellent lyrics.
8. Keys Open Doors - 4.0 stars - Nice. Simple bug interesting beat. Decent lyrics.
9. Ain't Cha - 4.0 stars - Nice change of scene. The "Hmm ..." in the hook gets a little old, but the general xylophone beat is fun and upbeat.
10. Trill - 4.0 stars - The lyrics are just like any other rap song ... but the beat is dungeon and hypnotizing. Excellent song.
11. Chinese New Year - 4.0 stars - Jay-Z feeling beat. Nice song
12. Nightmares - 2.0 stars - Should have been left off the album. Should not have ended on this note!
I'd actually give it 3.5 stars, which is still pretty good.......2007-05-29
Hip-hoppers these days are constantly scavenging for something different. This album is definitely that. But is it good? Yeah, it's pretty good. Pharrell, the pseudo master of beats, solidly executes production on this album. I also like the fact that Clipse don't constantly focus on "keeping it real," which so many underground types seem to constantly whine about.
amazing!.......2007-04-09
first off im not a kid, i just didnt feel like creating an account.
this CD was well worth the 4 year wait. clipse gets darker and more creative on this CD. to me the biggest problam with lord willin(which is an amazing CD, dont get me wrong) was the fact that pharelle was on every other track, to me his voice is good in smaller doses, but by the end of lord willin, i was sick of the mans voice. but with hell hath no fury, he comes in small doses and when he is on the track its not always in that high pitched voice as it was on lord willin. this CD is an amazing release from an amazing band. and if you ever have the chance to see these two live, do it. its an awesome experiance.
Just saw them live last Sat........2007-04-05
I do not own this cd, but I'm buying it. I saw the Clipse live last weekend, and went into the show thinking "well they will play some old stuff that I know" but lemme tell ya, they were playing many tracks from this album and that stuff was great! These guys put on a good show, u oughta see them if u can. But at the very least, buy this album, I know I am!

Envelope Please..........2007-01-04
... and the winner for rap album of the year goes to... 'Hell Hath No Fury', The Clipse. Is this for real? This album is so solid it frightens me. There's something so eerily perfect about The Clipse. The brothers Malice and Pusha T are unbelievable MCs, I mean they just manhandle the mic. Since their lyrical content is on par with what most popular rappers are barking about (drugs), the topics are accessible to mass audiences digging all that Rick Ross rap yet equally enjoyable for fans interested more in flow than in floss. The Neptunes always bring out their biggest guns for these guys - Lord Willin was among the first albums that launched the Neptunes into stardom - and there are no complaints on that end. The overall pace of the album is a little faster than their last LP, but it's standard stand-out production by the Virginia duo.
I haven't heard anything this consistently good in a long, long time. Maybe Ghostface's last album was the last time I heard something this phenomenal, but that's neither here nor there: bottom line is that this album is so important right now, so good, so worth your money.
CLASSIC ALBUM.......2006-12-12
THIS ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS TO COME OUT THIS YEAR. YOU CAN BUMP IT FROM START TO FINISH. IT SUCKS HOW JIVE RECORDS IS TRYING TO RUIN THERE RECORD SALES
Re-Up With The Clipse - - They Got It 4 Cheap {4 Stars}.......2006-12-04
This is really more like a 3 1/2 star album, but I'm a huge Neptunes fan. Anyway, I was watching my TV back in '02 and two guys I'd never seen before were rapping over a dope, albeit stripped down beat.....and then Pharell's grill pops up on the screen. The video : Grindin'. The group: Clipse. I immediately got the album after it dropped. No complaints there. Then, out of the blue, label issues leave them blackballed and handcuffed for 4 years. Then after creating huge a buzz by releasing a few excellent underground mixtapes, they finally see light at the end of the tunnel. The end result...Hell Hath No Fury. Lyrically, the new LP is just more of the same coke rap that made them so addictive to begin with. The difference this time is the stripped down Neptunes production. No radio friendly joints (with the exception of Mr. Me Too), no fluff, no frills, no hot artist of the moment....just Pusha & Malice hittin' you over the head with the blunt force of their street themes.
There are no wack tracks on the album, but there are a few that may fall under skip material after the new release buzz wears off. Tracks like "Momma I'm Sorry", "Trill", "Ain't Cha" (despite a decent Malice verse), and "Dirty Money" would fall under such a category. The songs bang right now, I'm just saying that I don't see myself popping in this disc and heading straight for these songs. Outside of that, the rest of the album flows well. It would've been nice if the album was longer (it's only 47 minutes long), but after waiting four years, I'll take whatever I can get from these guys as long as it isn't pop rap.
Hell Hath No Fury isn't your typical sophmore rap release. In rap, most artists drop ever 1 or 2 years in order to stay relevant. The Clipse had 4 years to create, rework, season, and marinate this album. The end result is quite possibly the best album of the year. I recommend adding this one to your collection.
Standout Tracks: Mr. Me Too feat. Pharrell, Hello New World, We Got It For Cheap, Wamp Wamp (What It Do) feat. Slim Thug, Chinese New Year, & Keys Open Doors
The Clipse Do Bring Hell (Rating: 9 out of 10- -4.5 stars).......2006-11-29
The Clipse has been in the mainstream for some time time since 2002. 4 years later they hit us with their third album (not their sophomore, their first one came out in 2000) "Hell Hath No Fury". And this has to be one of the best albums of 2006. Something must have happened to Pusha T & Malice these past 3 years, because they really come full force lyrically. "Hello New World" is one of those tracks that shows their lyrical skills. Seriously they have shown a BIG improvement from their "Lord Willin'" album. A lot of these songs have nice hooks which really makes their songs good such as "We Got It For Cheap (Intro)" & "Keys Open Doors".
Also the Neptunes beats are awesome! Their first single "Mr. Me Too" is one of the sickest beats I've heard from them. Heck even Pharrell spits a hot verse on that song. "Wamp Wamp (What It Do)" is just sick. To tell you the truth, I can't find one wack beat on this album from the Neptunes. Actually the beats here are much better than the ones you heard on Pharrell's "In My Mind" as well as The Neptunes' "Clone's" album.
Guests aside from Pharrell are also good. The Re-Up Gang do good jobs laying down verses on the songs "Ride Around Singing" as well as "Ain't Cha". Slim Thug handles the hook for the "Wamp Wamp" song. Bilal as well as Pharrell somes in for the slow & soft sounding track "Nightmares" to close off this album.
To have a gripe about this album would only be that the album seemed kinda short, only 48 minutes long, but still no filler. Also one song, "Chineese New Year" didn't appeal to me. Other than that, there is not one inconsistant part on The Clipse's or The Neptune's behalf.
To state before, this album is one of the best commercialized albums of 2006. I'm glad to see that they came back with a new album that is going to blow many weak albums way this year. (To tell the truth at one point, I thought they fell off). Three and a half years in the making, they really took their time with this one and made sure everything was carefully made. Guaranteed to make your head bop up and down. Props up to the Clipse for getting back in the game!

Killer Detroit Band.......2006-12-20
Basically, this is a really strong hard rock disc - and not metal, though it's just as heavy. Angie Zilla's drumming is powerful and the guitar is in your face. The vocals are a throaty bellow in Rachael's small voice - the result is cool, like Joan Jett at 13. The bass is barely audible on headphones, though, so that is a little problem. But don't think they can't play their instruments! The lyrics are gritty, funny and grounded in reality, which proves this isn't metal. My only gripe is the remix track, which is eye-wateringly awful. Well worth buying.
Smokin' Little Band.......2006-02-28
I caught these guys in a little club in Columbus about a year ago, and after they tore the roof off the place, I had to pick this album up. Lady Luck does a good job capturing the energy the band puts out live, with a quick pace and clear, punchy production. The tunes are straight ahead, catchy and powerful hard rock; kind of like Motorhead (...). Rachael May has a great, rough voice, Angie Manly's drumming is tight and energetic, and Rachael and Kim Essiambre's guitar / bass work is rocking (if not overly complicated). This kind of stuff is usually not my cup of tea, but I'm still jamming this album regularly. Buy it.
Supersonic Action-Packed and Estrogen Powered.......2005-12-06
Here's an up-and-coming band that deserves to be so famous that they inspire a worldwide backlash from mere jealous mortals. Broadzilla are a jawdroppingly powerful metal band out of Detroit with this era's most effective combination of melody and muscle, and this album is their 2001 masterpiece. The Broadzilla sound is built upon the relentless and maximalist drum onslaught of Angie Manly and the booming classic metal basslines of Kim Essiambre. The lightning rod of the band is singer/guitarist Rachel May, a vocalist of great emotive power and a lyricist of serious skill and insight. This album's top highlights are the neckbreaking "Y Did U Have 2B Psycho," a remorseless buttkicking both lyrically and musically, and "Four: Twenty" which delivers a monstrous groove and Rachel May's best sultry vocal performance. Broadzilla's creativity as players and songwriters is also evident in the minimal AC/DC-like strut of "Diamond Sex Goddess" and a bluesy boogie rave-up in "On the Run." And the band opens up new future avenues for their sound in the ominous and extra-long "High Society," not to mention a brilliant cover of "Love Child" (originally by Diana Ross and the Supremes) in which the band brings out the pain and redemption of the lyrics in ways far beyond the sunny Motown delivery of the original. If you're a heavy rock fan looking for a brighter and more exciting future, Broadzilla is your new favorite band. [~doomsdayer520~]

No Death Metal Nonsense Here!.......2005-10-30
I have loved this band for many years and finally gotten hold of a copy of their two albums. This is classic NWOBHM power metal, melodic but with plenty of bite. Proof that the girls can do it just as good if not better than the guys. It's a tragedy that straight down the line HM isn't appreciated here in Australia. Today's young upstarts are obsessed with death/thrash garbage-tonsil tearing, cookie-monster vocals, 900mph guitarwork and pathetic drumming. Not to mention dumb band names! Get a life and get with 1983!
Anyway i would recommend this CD to true HM/ NWOBHM fans alike, this band were just as good as Girlschool.
And remember kiddies; heavy metal ain't about horrific glass gargling, tonsil ripping vocals against the background of a cement-mixer going off the edge of a cliff in fifth gear!
But you don't get that with this cd, just magnificent raw edged-melodic HM.
Hasn't aged well...........2004-07-02
If you want to go back to the days of cheesy metal this is for you.. Especially if you want it played by some slightly overweight chicks in spandex and singing with funny accents, which saves this stuff from being total rubbish..
Worship the Goddess...sort of........2004-01-31
In the spring of 1984, I purchased an import LP from Bleeker Bob's in Greenwich Village. My selection was based purely on asthetics. Fantastic cover art featuring the mythical Medusa and three smokin' hot chicks on the back cover. Long haired sixteen year-olds have such discerning taste.
The sound that erupted from my speakers when needle touched vinyl was totally unexpected. The opening drum kick and power chords of "Hold Me Down" pound open the doors of a melodic metal classic. The remaining tracks shine less brightly but manage to deliver well crafted rock tunes. Solid guitar work and the raspy yet sexy vocal stylings of Jody Turner highlight a better than average 80's metal offering. The two disc expanded re-issue is a must have for those who experienced the era and those who wish they did alike.
Dumb Name, Good Tunes.......2000-08-08
I don't know why "girl bands" so frequently end up with stupid names. Rock Goddess, Precious Metal, Bangles . . . ugh. It's embarassing.
Anyway, Rock Goddess rocks pretty well. They're about on the level of early 80's Def Leppard as far as how "hard" they rock. The lyrics are nothing special, but the delivery is nice. I used to listen to the "Hell Hath No Fury" album every day back in junior high. The singing can be anything from the standard-issue rock growl to haunting, while the guitar and bass work leaves nothing to be desired. The drum work is absolutely perfect.
Ignore the name; buy the CD.
One Of The First and One Of The BEST.......1999-06-02
The music world got it's second wind in 1980 when bands like Girlschool, Leather Angel and Rock Goddess emerged out of nowhere (actually:England; Hollywood, CA; England, repectively). These chicks made music that was a little harder than The Runaways. It was heavy metal. Rock Goddess vocalist/guitarist Jody Turner had the voice of an evil dweller on one song and the voice of an angel on another. Her guitar work dazzled the ears. Her sister Julie was a master at playing her massive set of drums...you can barely see her in their live video releases! I played my Rock Goddess vinyl albums so much that they've become a bit worn out, so I was ecstatic when these two albums were released on CD. I wish I knew what Jody Turner is up to these days. She is one talented musician. Anyone who likes their music hard and fast and...to just RIP!...buy this set of CDs.

The best female metal album of the 80's, ...and beyond........2004-06-16
This is a record I purchased back in 1983 or 1984. I took my fat fifteen-year-old self into the local record store, and just looked for everything that looked METAL. Although I love Miles Davis, Jim Croce, and James Taylor, my true love has always been Hard Rock/Metal music. So I come across this record with 3, count 'em, 3 hot metal chicks on the cover. "Hell Hath No Fury" screamed the title across the top. These chicks looked pissed off and heavy...consider it done. I plopped down my $5 and change and ran home(got on the bus,...whatever).
When I got home I got a bowl of ice cream and fired up the stereo. When I put this record on, my room lit up. I got goose bumps during certain tracks. I felt like I hit the jackpot. Now I bought a lot of records, most of them from bands I'd never heard of. And, usually I never wanted to hear from them again. I just took my chances because I didn't want to miss anything. And this record still makes me thankful I took those chances.
I recently upgraded my adolescent purchase to CD. I was shocked to find that anything was still available and that other people were thrilled by this band also.
This is a record recorded by a three piece English outfit with a 9 year old drummer,...and they're all girls. In thier native England they reached #84 on the Billboard charts, but had no charting power here in the States. Thier previous record charted even higher in England(#64), but that also failed to chart here in the U.S. Both were released on A&M Records.
This is a powerful display of raw talent. These girls can play, and play they do. The lyrics can get a little simple and not have much to say sometimes, but the energy and emotion that's dished out is tremendous. The passion and strength in the lead vocal is fantastic. Along the lines of Ann Wilson's intensity, but not quite THAT good. It's sort of like saying Mother Teresa is nice, but she's not quite God. With production duties going to Chris Tsangarides, the sound is also top notch. From the title track popping out of the gate, to the riff heavy "God Be With You" to finish it off. It's all good. And, as I have said before, the mark of a great hard rock band is the ability to mix sledgehammer instrumentation, sonic and full harmony vocals, and a good strong hook to reel you in. It's all here, folks.
If you are a fan of hard rock music in the same vein as The Runaways, Girlschool, Joan Jett or The Donnas...you need to find this record. It was long out of print until 1998, when Renaissance Records re-released this gem. I recommend looking for the compilation CD; it is their first 2 records plus some additional tracks.
"Hell Hath No Fury" starts with the title track doing all the right things. A sharp drum beat accented by a brilliantly produced "splash" cymbal. Strong harmony vocals that usher in a passionate and powerful lead vocal. And the best part of all is that the harmony vocals get in the backseat while the lead vocals drive the vehicle, and the vehicle is a monster truck. The title track is followed by a great Gary Glitter cover of "I Didn't Know I Loved You(Till I Saw You Rock & Roll)." As childish and bubblegum as this song may seem, it takes on new meaning here. Even the adolescent lyrics are played and sung with passion and feeling. You get the feeling that this band could cover "Tiptoe Through The Tulips" and get it to work.
One of the many highlights on this record is a track entitled "You've Got Fire." I have been listening to this track for around 20 years and I got a chill from listening to it yesterday. It is that good. Another gift of song this band gave the world is "The Visitors Are Here." With a great keyboard eerieness throughout the track, and the fury of singer Jody Turner, this is a classic rock & roll song also. There are many
great songs to be heard here, all I can say is "go check it out."
