Let There Be Rock
Let There Be Rock
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com essential recording
AC/DC's second U.S. release took the raw energy from their debut, High Voltage, up a notch, producing another huge collection of driving, intense songs for serious headbanging, but adding a bit more professionalism into the equation. The songwriting and production are tighter and more focused, and standouts such as "Whole Lotta Rosie," "Problem Child," "Let There Be Rock," and "Bad Boy Boogie" almost have to fight with "filler" like "Go Down" and "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be" for the spotlight; but really, there's not a wasted track here. Guitarists Angus and Malcom Young further define their grooves, and vocalist Bon Scott sounds like he's on the verge of combusting. Let There Be Rock is big and lean. --Lorry Fleming

Fantastic Rock album.......2007-06-27
Another classic album from the greatness of AC/DC. Be sure to check out Back in Black and Highway to Hell first, but this would be a good place to continue your collection after those.
This is the reason you buy singles on iTunes.......2007-06-22
Not a bad album but, for my taste, the weakest album from front man Bon Scott. I think that, with the exception of the amazing title track, it is a mediocre album. Again - I would buy it, but I'd buy this one last after all the others. That's for the music, but I'd still buy it for the booklet and to have a complete Bon Scott collection.
All of these remastered reissues are GREAT! I walked into Best Buy and bought all at once (well, except for Let There Be Rock which I needed to special order) and that $70 happily flew out of my hands. The books that come with each CD are well worth the money themselves. Unlike some booklets like these, they aren't padded with "I love this band", "this album is great" and "this and every other song is amazing historic and will change your life."
Some background about the album, the time period in the band's history, and other behind the scenes info make up most of it including information about the tours and other trivia. Good, meaty stuff.
Bon Scott!!!!!!!!.......2007-05-21
With AC/DC,Rock will always be there. This album being the latest addition to my collection. The 4th with Bon,in my collection. May I say,Bon was the Best!!!!!! With all respect to Brian Johnson ,who led sang on perhaps, one of my fave albums of all time,Back In Black.Bon just sang with the rawest energy ever,in my opinion. This album just had the rockenest rockers ever.Starting off with "Go Down",which has so much energy.Than going into "Dog eat Dog","Let There Be Rock","Bad Boy Boogie","Problem Child"(of course,it was on Dirty Deeds too),through the last "Whole Lott Rosie".This album just has so much energy and will rock your socks off!!!!!!!!!
Bon and AC/DC forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
More Great Rock And Roll From The Heart.......2007-01-13
Let there be rock was the Usa follow up to High Voltage...Ac/Dc is a band unlike any other,in that the style has never changed no matter what. If you put on their debut album High Voltage and compare it to the latest "Stiff Upper Lip" released many many many years later,it sounds extremely similar,as if it could have been released a few months later (of course with the exception of Bon Scott's vocals) All that being said,I love this CD as I love all Ac/Dc releases. They always play from the heart and put 100 percent into every song. You can't say that for many bands, most bands release songs onto their albums that you know darn well were just thrown on there to take up space. Let there be rock is very similar in style to high voltage, the lyric content is much the same as is the driving beats and three chord anthems...I wish I could have given this a 3 and a half star review because it is certainly above average but I can't in good conscience say it is one step below perfect either..there are some fantastic memorable songs on this, such as the title cut "Let There Be Rock" "hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be","Overdose" and of course the absolute best song on the CD "Whole Lotta Rosie",those songs are right up there with any of the best songs from the entire Ac/Dc catalog, but there are some songs that don't stand up (in my opinion) such as "Go Down" and "Dog Eat Dog" ..it's not that they aren't great songs because they are,it's just that they aren't as catchy or memorable. The one thing I never quite understood is why they released "Problem Child" on this CD and a few years later released the same exact song on the Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap CD...it is a great song but why put it on twice? This is definitely a great CD...the production is top notch and very clear and all fans of good rock and roll and metal should buy this...but if you are new to the band start with Highway To Hell or Back In Black to get a true taste of the genius of this band...they stuck to their guns and will live forever in rock history
the upside - blues based rock/metal at it's finest...some extremely tasty lead guitar playing by Angus and some of the best metal screaming in the world by Bon Scott...great production,a great booklet with awesome pictures and stories comes with it, and some classic songs including "Whole Lotta Rosie" which is one of the best Ac/Dc songs ever...all 8 songs are great to rock out to and crank up to 10
the downside - only 8 songs...no bonus tracks on the remastered edition, and one of the 8 songs "problem child" can be found on Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap...many of the songs on this album sound nearly identical to songs on the previous release 'high voltage' and the one to follow 'powerage'
the bottom line - with Ac/Dc you simply can't go wrong...this is what rock and roll was meant to be...you should buy this CD if you love rock and roll of any kind because it would appeal to fans of blues rock, metal, and all styles in between..great production...it's not their best CD but even an average Ac/Dc release is better than most band's best CD...go out and buy this but I recommend first buying Back In Black and Highway To Hell and then you'll be ready to crank up "Let There Be Rock" and air guitar the day away...this band rocks and this CD rocks ..the donutman says so
WOW.......2006-10-08
LET THERE BE ROCK in my opinion is AC/DC's first classic album. I don't count HIGH VOLTAGE as a classic album since it's actually a compilation of the best songs from their first two albums. You can tell this is going to be great right from the first song. GO DOWN kicks the album off with great guitar work, and the most inspired vocals Bon Scott had done up to that point. It's obvious Bon is peaking both as a singer, and as a lyric writer throughout the album. The entire band is much improved since the DIRTY DEEDS DONE DIRT CHEAP album. Anyway, GO DOWN is a great opening track, and often overlooked. The second song is DOG EAT DOG, by now you should have your volume knob as far up as it will go. LET THERE BE ROCK is the third song, and it is as great as the first two. BAD BOY BOOGIE is the fourth great song in a row. PROBLEM CHILD is the next song, and it's a great song, but it seems out of place. And it should because it was on DDDDC. The next song is OVERDOSE, which has a slow build-up that AC/DC would use often for the rest of their career. OVERDOSE might be the weak point of the album, because it's just very good. Now we get to HELL AIN'T A BAD PLACE TO BE, at this point I'm trying to get my stereo to go louder. If anyone wants to know what AC/DC is about, just play HELL AIN'T A BAD PLACE TO BE. And finally we get to WHOLE LOTTA ROSIE, another classic song. Since I'm not a musician it's hard for me to describe this album. The best way I can describe it is loud guitars, loud drums and a very raw, hard sound. This is what rock music should be.

Buy The Import "See For Miles Records" It is very hard to find. But it has the extended version of "Birth Of The Beat" Between my dad and my brother and myself we must have worn out 8 LPs. I have bought 3 CDs of the import. I have two That I shared with my dad before he passed away and gave my Brother one.
Good percussion work.......2007-03-26
I've been looking for these two (combined on the CD) albums for a long time. I really enjoyed them.
Let There be Drums.......2005-09-14
I purchased this CD for my nephew who's been playing the drums for about a year. He never heard of Sandy Nelson before...but listened to the CD over a dozen times the day he received it. He's thanked me over and over again for such a great, drum playing collection of music.
Sandy Nelson.......2005-09-07
Sandy Nelson's Let There Be Drums and Drums Are My Beat, brought back great memories of the 60's. Anyone who loves the old rock and roll, will love this.
Sandy Nelson.......2004-01-03
Out of all of Sandy's recordings this album captures his most unique style. Teen beat 65 is proof of Sandy's way of making drums seem to come to life.
He is one of the very few drummers who has made such a personal impact on so many through out the years.
He changed the drumming world.

What's this? A Swedish band that doesn't sound like it was born in a garage? In 2005, the only thing more rare would be a CD copy of Neil Young's Time Fades Away -- one that would certainly find a place in the hearts of the Perishers, not so much for its volume but its profound sense of darkness. On their debut album, the young Scandinavian band sounds like a cross between Keane and Athlete, offering somber songs punctuated with tumbling pianos, melodramatic lyrics and an unmistakable earnestness that only comes from either being a member of Coldplay or living somewhere that doesn't get enough sunshine. "I've always been dreamer," sings Ola Kluft, "I've had my head among the clouds." --Aidin Vaziri
Album Description
Slow down. And get lost in the world of The Perishers. The Swedish band's American debut, "Let There Be Morning," is a blend of emotional wandering, poetic insight and stark, yet inspirational surroundings. Their new album is due out in April 2005.

Hypnotic.......2006-08-21
The Perishers are amazing!! "Let There Be Morning" is a dreamy and beautiful album. Highly recommended!!
The best cd I've heard in a long time!!.......2006-04-23
I don't usually write a review, but when I bought this cd and listened to it for the first time, I absolutely fell in love!! There isn't one song that I don't like. The Perishers have a great way of combining smooth sound and wonderful lyrics in a perfect combination. This cd is perfect for a long car ride, working at the office or just hanging out with friends. Every song flows nicely into the next one. Even the last song on the cd is an appropriate way to end the whole collection. Very rarely do you ever come across a cd that not only do you love more then just two songs on it, but you can listen to it over and over again and never get tired of them. I can't wait for their next cd to come out. Once you buy this cd and listen to you, you will instintly become a Perisher fan for life!!
Am I weird?.......2006-04-21
I guess I'm the only one who knows of the Perishers through Sims 2. They're on the "College Rock" soundtrack. I kept listening to "Sway" in Simlish and wondering what the actual words were - eventually I had to look them up! I'm so pleased - I love off-beat bands. I recommend the Perishers (and other Sims 2 musics) to anyone.
stunner.......2005-10-31
Goodnes gravy I love this cd. Sweet melodic music the singer has a gorgeous voice. Every song is perfect.
Best new music around.......2005-08-31
I was trying to think of what I can say about this most excellent cd. At first, I thought "if you like music like that sung by Dido, Anna Nalick, Everything But The Girl Blue Nile, Simon and Garfunkel, or Peter, Paul and Mary, then you have to buy this cd". Rest assured this music collection is not for lovers of hard rock, hip-hop or the like. But if you are into mellow music that sounds great, you owe it to yourself to purchase this cd. I think this cd is one of the best I have ever purchased. Give it a try and I assure you, you won't be disapointed.

Despite racking up Tony nominations and/or box-office success with Nine, Grand Hotel, and Titanic, Maury Yeston remains a relatively unknown Broadway auteur. And yet, what a fabulous songwriter he is. Listen to "Home," for instance: This excerpt from Phantom (the other adaptation of Phantom of the Opera) has great melodic hooks, along with natural sweep and unrestrained emotion. Like every song on this CD, it also has such dramatic drive that it easily stands on its own outside of its regular narrative frame. This collection of new recordings provides an excellent overview of Yeston's talent, juxtaposing numbers from his three best-known scores (though there's only one from Titanic) with rarities and a generous selection from his 1991 song cycle December Songs. Christine Ebersole, Liz Callaway, and Betty Buckley turn in expectedly strong performances, but watch also for Laura Benanti (the star of the 2003 revival of Nine), Christine Andreas, and Foster Sutton, who completely make the material theirs. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Customer Reviews:
a wonderful surprise.......2007-07-22
Like others, I bought this CD primarily for Sutton Foster's rendition of "I Want to Go to Hollywood." And while that's wonderful, the real surprises here are the songs from Yeston's song cycle "December Songs." Christine Ebersole and Christine Andreas give absolutely lovely, technically proficient, completely heartfelt renditions of "My Grandmother's Love Letters" and "By the River", respectively. I'd heard Andrea Marcovicci's recording of "December Songs" and was seriously underwhelmed. These two tracks just prove that Yeston might have over-estimated Marcovicci's range and technical ability. "By the River" is a revelation in the right hands, and Ms. Andreas's rendition is just four minutes of wonderful. I also want to mention Howard McGillin's "No Moon". This little song from "Titanic" is just so moving. Pulled out of context, it becomes a little jewel of metaphor.
The CD as a whole is beautifully recorded, with an intimacy and clarity that makes you feel like you're in the first row of a very small theatre. If you come across this and you're on the fence, take a chance. I bet that you'll be as pleasantly surprised and deeply moved as I've been.
What!? How is this possible?.......2007-01-20
How could one put together a Maury Yeston Songbook cd without a track from Andrea Marcovicci? He wrote a song cycle for her. Granted there are some great singers here but a grave oversight to not include Ms Marcovicci.
Beauty and grace, charm and wit - Maury's got it all.......2006-11-14
Maury Yeston may be musical theatre's unsung genius to the public at large, but I've heard his praises sung many times. A friend convinced me to buy the original Broadway cast of "Nine", and while there were some fantastic songs and an undeniable melodic gift throughout, it left me lukewarm. The same with "Grand Hotel". And I couldn't stand "Titanic" - too big, too self-important, too reliant on booming low brass and bombastic orchestral swells.
"Phantom" was the only one of his scores that touched something other than distanced admiration in me. It was everything Sir Lloyd Webber's popera travesty could never quite aspire to - epic yet human, beautiful and touching, with songs that showed actual details and emotions. So it was with that in mind that I purchased this, figuring that maybe Maury could prove me wrong, shorn from the restrictions of a book musical format.
And by God, did he prove me right and then some.
Maybe it's the singers. Maybe it's the perfect orchestrations. Maybe it's just the absence of a plot to follow. More than likely, it's all three, but this is one of the most gorgeous, enjoyable, heartbreaking albums I've ever purchased. Yeston has assembled an impressive cast to give voice to his music - such heavy Broadway hitters as Alice Ripley, Brent Barrett, Betty Buckley, Christine Ebersole and Howard McGillin mix with up-and-comers like Eden Espinosa, Sutton Foster, and Brian d'Arcy James. But the most impressive turns are given by people I'd never heard of before - Johnny Rodgers (who?) has a voice spun from gold, and he's absolutely perfect in "Danglin'", a simple and powerful song despite some odd lyric choices by Yeston. Likewise Philip Chaffin in "My True Love" and "I Am Longing", and Michael Holland displays a warm and untrained performance of "Another Day in the Modern World". These three men, who I'd never heard of before, absolutely stole the show. It doesn't hurt that they're given some of the best songs from the album.
Of course, the rest of the ensemble uniformly turns in worthwhile performances. The professionalism of Broadway is gloriously evident here, each singer making their song uniquely theirs. Brent Barrett made me hear "Only With You" as if for the first time. Betty Buckley is surprisingly vulnerable in "I Had A Dream About You". Alice Ripley is her usual bundle of raw emotion in "Please Let's Not Even Say Hello", and turns in a rare comic performance in "Call From The Vatican" to great effect (listen to that surprise high note near the end! Wow, Alice!). Christine Ebersole is heartbroken, elated, vulnerable, and tough all in the course of "Grandmother's Love Letters"' 4 minutes.
There are some weak spots - Eden Espinosa is mostly one-note during her song, and while it's certainly a high note, it's nothing you haven't heard her do better elsewhere. Laura Benanti's "Now and Then" goes by without much notice, which is a shame for this talented actress. And Betty Buckley goes back to her usual high-volume stridence in "Be On Your Own", which despite its chilling music deserves a more nuanced performance than Buckley gives here. But these songs would be standouts on any other album, and it's only the company they keep that prevent them from being excellent.
Oh, and "Unusual Way", possibly Yeston's best-known song, is so beautifully performed here by Brian d'Arcy James and a three-piece band that I nearly cried hearing it. And that's quite a feat for a song that I swore never to listen to again after the seventeenth girl in a day auditioned with it (badly). But the gender swap works perfectly, and d'Arcy James' golden Irish tenor swings through the music effortlessly.
As for the band - there are no missteps here. Each song is given exactly what it needs, from the Romantic-with-a-capital-R string section on "Home", to the jazzy saxophone on "Letter From the Vatican", to "Be On Your Own", which is given a Herrmann-esque string section. Some particular touches stand out - that lovely acoustic guitar on "Danglin'", the simple piano line on "Modern World", and the sublime cello/piano outro in "Unusual Way" really stuck with me after the album stopped playing. And the recording is without fault - crisp, encompassing, personable and expansive as the mood requires. The whole album sounds fantastic.
There is such a wide range of style and substance here that each song would deserve purchasing individually. As a collection? It's bliss. If you're a fan of theater music, appreciate great vocals, or just need something to keep you company on long nights, this is required purchase.
A perfect marriage of music and lyrics.......2006-09-07
I think Yeston must be the most underrated talent in music theatre. And not just music theatre ... for as far as I know, "Danglin'" is not from a show - a jewel of a song ... and a disarmingly honest rendition from Johnny Rogers (what a beautiful voice! Why hasn't he made more CD's?) Some other favourites are "New Words" (not enough parent-child love songs out there ... and I can't imagine it could be sung any better than this), "You're there too" (with a charming and unexpected twist), "Simple" (Callaway is superb), "Only With You" (loveable rogue!) ... to name but a few. Inspired music theatre writing. A must for any musical buff, composer or singer seeking repertoire that will help them stand out from the crowd.
The Maury Yeston Songbook.......2006-08-30
A good album sung by good singers. I have been an admirer of Maury Yeston for a number of years . I am a great fan of "Nine"
which I consider his best work.(If possible try to listen to the
Australian Cast Recording with John Diedrich) I enjoy listening to artists like Alice Ripley, Brent Barrett, Sutton Foster, and my very favourite singer Liz Callaway. All in all a great CD to just sit back ,relax and enjoy Les Breen

Inspirational!.......2004-10-08
Majestic hymns sung with British accents. A great combination! I haven't noticed any objectionable sounds on my copy.
hymns we sang in church.......2003-02-16
i grew up in a traditional presbyterian church that had a pipe organ. i wanted a cd of many of the hymns that we sang in church sung by a choir and accompanied by a pipe organ. this cd fulfilled my wishes perfectly. the hymns are performed in a very straight-forward fashion with no show-boating or excess flourishes which is exactly what i wanted. this is not gospel music but what i refer to as liturgical music to indicate that it is religious music but not gospel music. i would give it 5 stars but there is a slight hiss. other than that the recording quality is very good.

Customer Reviews:
The picture.......2006-12-11
I haven't purchased the CD but the picture of the inside of a church on the cover is not of a British church, like one would assume since it says its a recording of British choirs. This picture is of Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Just thought i'd let you know. I'll be honest; I'm one to judge things by it's cover and if the company took such care to choose a 'British' church for their British choir CD, I'm willing to bet the music is equally well selected... I'm being sarcastic. But I gave the product 5 stars because I didn't want to hurt its ratings just because i'm cynical. But check out the church if you're ever in Montreal, it's truly beautiful... here I'm not being sarcastic.

Customer Reviews:
Share the love.......2006-10-20
Let there be love gets 5 stars from me, it is great song sung by both Liam and Noel in the style of the Beatles. However the B sides don't live up to Oasis' reputation for putting out great tracks on there singles as well as albums.
Don't get me wrong, Track 2 "Sittin' here in silence (on my own) is still a good song, but sadly only runs for about 2 minutes and so much more could have been done with it. Written by Noel, it is very much a Lennon-esque song that deserves to be a B side only
Track 3, a live version of Rock N' Roll Star has been done before, and is no better or worse than other versions getting around.
The B sides get 3 stars each from me. Buy it only if you are a hardcore Oasis fan.
Middle of the road Oasis single.......2006-06-21
"Let There Be Love" is good as ballads go. It has a nice Lennon-esque feel (think "Real Love".) It's also the only true Liam/Noel duet on record. It was better in its earlier incarnation as the Noel-sung b-side "It's a Crime."
The extra tracks,"Sittin' Here in Silence (On My Own)" and "Rock N' Roll" (live) are good filler. Unfortunately, this CD single doesn't stack up to past Oasis singles that had brilliant extra material.
If you're an Oasis fan, buy it. If not, stick with the Don't Believe the Truth album.
"Come on, baby blue...".......2006-04-17
Let There Be Love is the third single released from Oasis's critically acclaimed 2005 album Don't Believe The Truth.
It's a sobering, delightful, and mellow rock single featuring both Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel, sharing lead vocals, making it their first duet since Acquiesce.
The album closing mini-epic has a piano playing throughout, and some of Noel's best lyrics: "Who kicks a hole in the sky, so the heavens would cry over me", and "Shake up your tired eyes, the world is waiting for you".
The best part of the song to me personally is when Noel starts his vocal duty with "Come on, baby blue...". Priceless!
Recommended
A
Great song.......2005-12-21
This song is a great tune, perhaps the most commercial song on the new Oasis album. It's one of the few Oasis songs ever to feature both Gallagher brothers, Liam sings the first bit then when Noel comes in with the 'Come on Baby Blue' line, it sounds amazing - Noel has never sounded better than on the 'Don't Believe The Truth' album. Buy this single, if not, definitely buy the album - believe that truth!
Not among their best...........2005-12-21
What can I say? I would have never chosen this track as a single for this album.
Traditionally, singles are picked for radioplay and marketability.
"Let There Be Love" is not one of those songs. It's a weak track. Noel should have just left this up to Liam to sing the whole song.
Reccomended for serious Oasis fans only.

Aside from dozens of other early olivia from some of her albums--as well as rareties that were not, you get every track from the "Let Me Be There" CD, which is Out of Print, on the Olivia boxed set "48 Original Tracks. Check it out here on Amazon!!!
The start of her country phase.......2003-04-04
Olivia's first two Australian albums owed more to pop and folk than they did to country. With this third album, Olivia moves firmly into seventies pop-country territory. Note that the original album releases in Britain and America did not follow the Australian track listings.
The album opens with Take me home country roads. This song had been a huge American pop hit for its writer, John Denver, but did not chart in Britain - I don't even know if it was released there as a single. Olivia's cover became a UK top 20 pop hit, deservedly so. Other covers here include Amoreuse (Kiki Dee), You ain't got the right (Dr Hook) and If we try (Don McLean).
Let me be there, the title track, was a huge American hit. Brotherly love is another fine upbeat song. Most of the other original songs are ballads including Rosewater, which Olivia wrote herself.
This is a lovely album, which might be regarded as essential for Olivia's fans if it weren't for the fact that all the tracks except Brotherly love appear on the British compilation 48 original tracks.
If you liked the song Rosewater.......1999-06-26
Rosewater has always been my favorite ONJ song. It took me years before I realized the song was told from the point of the house named Rosewater. On this CD I found out why. On other CD's it is edited. Here you get the COMPLETE version. Worth every penny of it.

engelbert's new one.......2005-11-05
actually i never listened to any engelberts music untill i heard a track from this album on the radio and was impressed!!this is really a good vocal album with some ballads some country and some jazzy stuff great late night listening!!a bit simmilar to the rick astley album"portrait".great stuff mr humperdink!
Each album gets better than the last.......2005-04-24
I admit, the first song on this album was unusual for Engelbert. That is probably the reason there are some negative reviews. But, all the songs on this album grow on you. Some of the songs are instant hits, and I find myself singing along as I drive down the highway - and smiling, not believing how amazingly beautiful Engelbert still sounds. These songs are my favorite: When You Say Nothing at All, With You I'm Born Again, Three Words Ain't Enough, We're All Alone, Love Songs, Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?, My Confession. "My Confession" is a spectacular closing song. Rarely does one album have so many great songs. I can listen to this album over and over - endlessly.
My mom doesn't like him anymore..........2005-04-14
I got this CD for my mom and after listening to it she asked me to take it back to the store, because she said there is no way it could be her favorite singer Engelbert. She was very disapointed. So I am stocked with this because the store would not take it back. Does anyone want it for free?
Enge's newest, and a new listening pleasure, CD........2005-04-13
I bought this new CD of Engelbert's. "Let There Be Love."
Enjoy, enjoy ! A bit different style, songs I had not heard him
sing before.
Gotta give Enge credit, he does new material, in a new style, and it comes off on top.
The song that I like most,"Have you really ever loved a woman?"
Wow........ that one make the goosebumps stand up.
I've heard several of the songs on this CD, by other artists in the past. But hearing Enge do them, in a style that is his own,
gives the listener a new pleasure. kp
Let There Be More, Much More.......2005-04-08
Engelbert once again serves up an ACE. I am more convinced than ever before that this man is in a class by himself. Yea, Sinatra, Bennet, Damone, Black, have set the vocal stage for many years, but this Man is by Far the best singer to grace this planet in the last hundred years. He can sing Celine songs,Gospel songs,Christmas songs and God knows, he is to Love songs, what Mercedes-Benz is to Cars.
Buy the album, better yet buy all of his works like I have done and then boast of having the finest collection of songs ever sung.
