5 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL NAPALM DEATH........2004-02-11

What can I say about this release other than it is a classic masterpiece. The songs are very heavy and extreme on this cd.The drumming is killer as always and barney greenway's vocals are sick. All the songs are great with mass appeal madness and siege of power as standout tracks. If you are a fan of the band then I would recommend you getting this one because you will not be disappointed.METAL RULES!!!

4 out of 5 stars The Barney stuff rules.. Dorian stuff is OK.......2002-12-19

Mass Appeal Madness is slower than the usual ND hyper jaunt but no less brutal. A great "song" where as sometimes (at this point in their career) their tunes tended to blend together at times. "Pride Assassin" has that great trade off low vocals from Barney and screaming from Mick...it's awesome. Again, another "memorable" tune. All the tunes here that featuere Barney are both memorable and brutal.. fantastic stuff. If you enjoyed Utopia Banished or Harmony Corruption this should appeal to you (although minus the hyper drums a good amount of the time). Dare I say that some of these songs are "catchy"?

I don't particularly like the Lee Dorian cuts... at this point in recording history I think a lot was lost on bands that were so "low" especially vocally. Rerecorded today it might have come out different but the product on the CD is a bit muddy.

This CD is worth the $$ even if half of it is weak.

5 out of 5 stars Manipulated By Napalm Death.......2002-04-23

So he we are with Napalm Death again. "Death By Manipulation" is really not an actual album, but more like a compilation or rare singles, EP's, and songs that were not used in their previous years. "Death By Manipulation" is a compilation of this material I have gathered, to the best of my knowledge:

- Mentally Murdered 6-song E.P. (also which was the last of the classic Bill Steer/Lee Dorian line-up)

- Mass Appeal Madness E.P. (Which contains 2 re-recorded songs from the "Scum" LP)

- Suffer The Children 12" (Which features an instrumental Coil-ish version of "Harmony Corruption" not found on the original album itself)

- This was also, sadly, the last few records with whirl-wind Grindcore drummer god Mick Harris.

All and all, this is a Napalm Death album and by that, it does not dissapoint. The thing that struck me was that this was more of a return to their Grindcore roots of their first 2 albums than the total Death Metal sound or "Harmony Corruption". Really great songs, especially "Mass Appeal Madness", "Suffer The Children", "Seige Of Power", and 'Mentally Murdered". The album cover is really killer looking as well. Great addition to any Grindcore, or Metalhead's collection.

5 out of 5 stars the grind gods on there best work yet.......2001-06-09

napalm death are back with "death by manipulation."it is quite a change from normal 52 second napalm death songs to 3 or 4 minute brilliant gems that deserve to be listened to.the chainsaw guitars, throbbing drums, piercing vocals, and back stabbing bass work together on this 3/4s album 1/4 live album that is beautifully sculpted to create an uproar of heavy as hell sounds and fast and furious beats.the sound quality goes from good to bad by song, creating a mix of the old sound and new sound of napalm death.

this album is for anyone who are fans of agoraphobic nosebleed, nasum, or extreme noise terror.the best songs are mass apeal madness and suffer the children.

5 out of 5 stars Masters of Grind.......2001-04-27

I think that unfairly everyone who wrote here didn't listen very well this album or just don't know whole their pieces. In that album we can look from all the edges of the ground where they played, from Lee Dorian to Barney age, what afford us enough to realize that they never had to change their aggressive features just to praise to the common death metal fans. I advice to anyone who want to be introduced and taste their punch to take it.
