5 out of 5 stars If you're only going to buy 1 Jimmy Buffet Cd..........2001-10-10

This one really has all the songs most people are looking for, i.e. "Maragritaville," "Cheeseburger in Paradise," etc.

5 out of 5 stars All the Great Hits, and then some.......2000-12-07

This is the greatest hits album for confirmed Parrotheads. I turned in my copy of the American greatest hits album, "Songs You Know By Heart," years ago. This import adds, to my mind, two songs that are better than much of SYKBH: "Last Mango in Paris," which is a classic rocking singalong and the expatriate's theme song, "Banana Republics," which will bring a lump to the throat of anyone who's lived a few thousand miles from their birthplace.

While I usually just raid my Buffett collection to create mix tapes, "All the Great Hits" manages to be a great mix on its own, and is one of Buffett's few albums I just drop into the CD player and listen to straight, over and over.

A must have for Parrotheads and well worth the extra money.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding.....Buffett's Best.......1999-08-06

Really captures Buffett's best work. Although everything he does touches the soul. He is truly an American legend. Music that makes Margaritaville a state of mind.

5 out of 5 stars great.......1999-03-10

One of Buffett's best CD's. It has all the great hits

1 out of 5 stars For the non Parrot Head but still wanting great music.......1998-12-05

Jimmy's music on this CD is outstanding as usual (five stars), this is a good CD for someone who wants to get a taste of his music but isn't a diehard fan. All these songs are on his non-import releases. If your a serious collector you already have these great songs so there is no reason to add this CD. For the music lover who wants a variety of music from a great artist this ones for you - who knows you may be back to become a collector of all the Buffett originals.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Classic Album From A Different Time!!!!.......2005-12-10

A classic album! I remember this album out at the same time the "Shaft" was out by Isaac Hayes in the very early 70's. I've only got this on cassette right now and will be ordering the CD. I'm surprised it took so long to actually be released on CD. Most of the tracks on the album are just different renditions/arrangements of the Love Story theme. I especially like "The Christmas Trees", and the sultry vocal on "I Love You, Phil." This album brings back those memories from the early 70's, a time when the world seemed a little less complex and down to earth.

4 out of 5 stars review of the Love Story Soundtrack.......2004-08-20

This music is very good, but this is not the original soundtrack from the movie. The original soundtrack actually has dialogue from the actors, Ali McGraw, and Ryan O'Neal. There is a "first meeting" sequence, as well as their wedding ceremony.
This is probably the original music from the movie, but not the entire original soundtrack, just to clarify for a potential future listener.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The best of the best from the '50s !!!.......2007-07-14

Jukebox Favourites: 76 Original Hits from the 50s gives you three CDs chock full of great love ballads and upbeat, energetic numbers that you will definitely enjoy! The CDs contain works by a wide range of artists with different types of songs about love.

You get so many hits, in fact, that I scarcely know where to begin. On the first CD, Dean Martin croons "Memories Are Made Of This" with a marvelous backup chorus. The musical arrangement makes good use of the guitar for this gently swaying melody. Frank Sinatra follows with the classic "Love And Marriage;" Frank sings this without a superfluous note. The arrangement by Nelson Riddle uses the horns and strings to carry the bulk of the melody. Great! Other hits on the first CD include "Sincerely" sung by The McGuire Sisters with Dick Jacobs and his Orchestra. Wow, how those McGuire Sisters harmonize so well! "Twenty Tiny Fingers" is a relentlessly upbeat melody performed very well by The Stargazers.

Eartha Kitt performs "Under The Bridges of Paris" with grace and panache; and Georgia Gibbs delivers "Tweedle Dee" with so much energy this number pops out at you as it flies straight out of the ballpark! Love that percussion on "Tweedle Dee," too.

The second CD continues to overwhelm me. Frank Sinatra sings "Young At Heart" to perfection; his voice is full of energy and masculine warmth. Nat "King" Cole performs "Smile" with grace and panache; Nat makes "Smile" his own as he enunciates certain syllables just a slightly different way to place his stamp on "Smile." Nelson Riddle's arrangement glows like gold, too! Kay Starr delivers a passionate rendition of "If You Love Me (Really Love Me);" and the background chorus enhances this number. Johnnie Ray also does a great job with "Hernando's Hideaway." "Hernando's Hideaway" sports a lush musical arrangement by Joe Reisman and his Orchestra. Awesome!

Dean Martin sings "Sway" with all his heart as the percussion infuses "Sway" with a 1950s Latin flavor; and Rosemary Clooney does a great job with "Mambo Italiano." Rosemary infuses "Mambo Italiano" with electricity--awesome! One of my personal favorites is "Mr. Sandman" by The Chordettes; they harmonize to perfection and the percussion works wonders for "Mr. Sandman." Moreover, Kitty Kallen performs a particularly beautiful classic, "Little Things Mean A Lot." "Little Things Mean A Lot" moves so many people with its honest lyrics; and Kitty sings this one with unfailing honesty and warmth.

The third CD only improves this three CD set. The CD begins strong with "That's Amoré" by Dean Martin and chorus; and "Side By Side" by Kay Starr with Hal Mooney and his Orchestra still delights people with its sweet innocence and promises of uncompromising loyalty. Kay Starr sings this to perfection--her voice light and clear as a bell! Eddie Fisher performs "Oh My Papa" without a flaw; and the chorus backs him up very well. Kay Starr returns to give us THE definitive rendition of "Changing Partners;" this ballad molds traditional country with a classic love ballad melody to create an especially delightful effect. Les Paul and Mary Ford perform "Vaya Con Dios" flawlessly; and Perez Prado gives us a great rendition of "Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White" to end the three CD set with a romantic Latin twist.

The liner notes give you the song credits and the number of weeks each song was on the UK and the USA charts. I would have liked an essay but this is a minor disappointment.

As CD sets go, this is the best compilation of hits from the 1950s that I have found to date. You get a whopping 76 numbers that have been carefully remastered; very, very few numbers have any surface noise whatsoever. I highly recommend this for fans of 1950s music; and people who want to dance to the classics from the '50s will not be disappointed with this CD set.

Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Great collection.......2005-10-15

This is one of my favorite hits collections. Prism is virtually ignored by rock radio today, but the KSHE classics show turned me on to the band. VIRGINIA and ARMAGEDDON are classics that don't get their just due today. SEE FOREVER EYES is a sing along joy to listen to. The set does leave off HELLO and JULIE, but what is here is great.

2 out of 5 stars A Missing Link, Of Sorts.......2005-07-11

While this Canada band never made much of a splash outside of Canada they did represent something of a missing link between the pompous "progressive rock" of the early and mid 70's (Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, and pre-Phil Collins Genesis) and the generic arena rock the was in vogue in the late 70's to mid 80's (Styx, Journey, REO Speedwagon). Although they managed to land a total of five songs on the US singles chart only one of those, "Don't Let Him Know," was able to crack the top 50 were it peaked at #39 in the late winter/early spring of 1982. If that song is even remembered today at all it is as the subject of trivia as it was written by one Bryan Adams who himself would make a big splash on the arena rock circuit during much of the mid 80's beginning about a year and a half later.

It is difficult to imagine anyone getting too terribly excited about this stuff at this late date, but if this is still your sort of thing, here you are. Have at it.

5 out of 5 stars prismatic fanatic.......2003-01-17

I just love this stuff. We were lucky enough to have them playing at our high school dances in Surrey B.C. and listening to the sample cuts just makes me want to go out and buy this cd again.American music,Cover girl are timeless classics that just stick in your mind. Take me to the Kaptain and Spaceship Superstar absolutely rock you. If you love power pop with a kick you will love Prism.

3 out of 5 stars I was not that impressed........2000-05-13

This CD is alright but far from great. No one take this personally as I am not a PRISM fan, I had never heard much about PRISM until I listened to this CD from a friend.

There are a few songs that stuck out for me though. American Music has to be one of those great songs that just gets imprinted in my mind, just a great song. I find it a bit ironic that one of the the best songs by this Canadian band is American Music(Canadian Music anyone?) Take me to the Kaptain and Spaceship Superstar are also great memorable tracks.

Apart from the tracks listed above, this album did not blow me away and was not as interesting as similar bands. I actually listened to Journey's Greatest Hits right after this CD and while I am not the biggest Journey fan, I must say I was more interested in the latter than the former.

4 out of 5 stars NOT JUST ANOTHER CANADIAN BAND.......2000-04-30

PRISM HAS TO BE ONE THE FINEST CANADIAN BANDS EVER..IF YOU LIKE LOVERBOY--RED RIDER--ALDO NOVA & JOURNEY,I RECOMMEND THIS CD ,WHICH CAPTURES THE BEST OF PRISM..I SPECIALLY HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THE SONG..DON'T LET HIM KNOW--THANKS AMAZON FOR HELPING ME ADD THIS CD TO MY COLLECTION..

4 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Collection-(Maybe).......2005-10-31

I thought that this CD wasn't bad. The sound quality on some of the tracks is terrible, but there were a lot of good songs on this CD. I think that's what an ultimate collection is- a mix of well-known and obscure songs. This CD does a good job of representing that. Sure, some tracks are missing, but so what? I like it anyway.

2 out of 5 stars Vaughn Monroe - The Ultimate Collection (I don't think so).......2005-08-18

A huge disappointment -- this CD has all the right songs but, without exception, they are "B" cuts, not the popular version that I had expected. Worse, the sound quality was very very poor -- the Band Music was over-modulated and tinny -- I've heard better sound quality on a Victrola playing 78's. I had a Vaugn Monroe cassette that sounded out of this world and had hoped that this CD would be the same. Again, a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!

4 out of 5 stars Good reinterpretations by original artist.......2003-07-11

Although this CD does not contain the original recordings of Eric Burdon & The Animals, it should be appreciated on its own merits. Eric Burdon's voice is nearly as strong as it was on the original recordings. I don't consider any of the tracks on this CD to be duds. Eric Burdon's renderings of the Animals' hits stay close to the originals while differing enough to make the experience interesting. I also cannot find any fault with his backing group on this CD. Again, the arrangements stay close to the originals while not simply trying to parrot them. Re-recordings are often poor substitutes (IMHO) but definitely not in this case. I enjoyed these songs when I bought them in the 60's and still enjoy them today in both their original form as well as their remakes on this CD.

4 out of 5 stars great re-recordings !.......2003-02-14

This is really a very good CD. Not the original recordings, but the best covers Eric made of his own songs. Very good quality.

1 out of 5 stars BEWARE!!!!!.......2001-07-11

These are not the original recordings. Re-recorded by Eric Burdon when he was past his prime. Not so good. Buy BEST OF THE ANIMALS on the ABKCO label. Those are original and great.

1 out of 5 stars Grade Z re-recordings.......2001-07-06

Although this CD appears to be the most complete collection of music from Sixties hitmakers Eric Burdon and the Animals, it is comprised of inferior re-recorded versions of their major hits.

    Album Description

Prins Thomas is now intrinsically linked to the eclectic "space-disco" sounds emanating from his homeland of Norway. Alongside Hans-Peter Lindstrøm their eponymous debut album and Reinterpretations re-workings have opened up their sounds to a whole new audience of music lovers. Prins Thomas has also been making a name for himself with his remixes for Blackjoy, Justus Köhncke, Force Of Nature, Simian Mobile Disco, and for breaking sound systems the world over as a DJ of eclectic dexterity. This collection provides a snapshot of Thomas M. Hermansen in action across two sumptuous discs of avant-garde dance grooves, twisted funk, spaced-out electronics, psychedelic fusion, classic techno, disco, prog rock and all manner of leftfield concoctions. Across 36 tracks we get Hawkwind jamming with Visnadi, Bob James going toe to toe with The Salsoul Invention, Joe Meek twisting by the pool with Holger Czukay, Boards of Canada segueing into Lindstrøm and Closer Musik doing the Detroit tango with Recloose, Carl Craig and Parliament. Many of the original tracks got a special Prins Thomas edit especially for this mix. Other artists include: Joe Meek And The Blue Men, Area Code 615, Crue-L Grand Orchestra, Glissandro 70, Bjørn Torske, Rey De Copas, The Mole, The Electric South, Bob Lind, Carlos Hernandez, Finzy Kontini, Musique, Soylent Green, Metalchicks, Waltz, Uusi Fantasia, Axer, Dubarchanoid Trim, Matias Aguayo, Isolée, Zombi, The Now Generation, The Honeymoon Killers, Tres Demented, Musiccargo, The Paper Dolls and Love On The Run.

5 out of 5 stars The most entertaining album I have ever heard.......2005-12-08

This amazing live album gives us Dean Martin at his most entertaining best; no one worked a crowd like Dino, and this has to be the most entertaining album I have ever listened to in my life. The date is February 8, 1964, and the setting is the immortal Sands Hotel in Las Vegas; truly, to borrow a phrase from what is probably Dino's most well-known song, memories are made of this. Those looking for the world's greatest crooner's delivery of impeccably romantic love songs should look elsewhere, though, as this performance lives up to its subtitle: An Evening of Music, Laughter and Hard Liquor. Dean is in full character as the fun-loving, alcohol-consuming entertainer he portrayed so well, and there is probably more comedy than singing over the course of this 58+ minute performance. I believe only On a Slow Boat to China is sung without some kind of interruption or comedic break, and most of the songs feature Dino's own reshaping of the lyrics. Drink to Me Only and Bourbon From Heaven leave no doubt from the start that this show is about entertainment more than singing. After quasi-serious renditions of Memories Are Made of This and That's Amore, Dino launches into a monologue of almost seven minutes. The man is absolutely hilarious; he had me laughing heartily nonstop and the live audience rolling in the aisles. A few Bing Crosby jokes and stories about his family are big highlights here; my favorite joke has to be Dino's reference to his 74-year old mother-in-law, a remarkable woman who does not even need glasses at her age - she drinks straight from the bottle.

A lot of give-and-take with the band appears in Dino's cover of Bing's June in January, then after a terrific delivery of the song You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby, Dean goes back to pure comedy. More Laughs With Dean features another six and half minute monologue, in which Dean tells the audience he drinks because he is insecure and can't really believe he is Dean Martin and getting to do all these wonderful things he does, a statement that I think bears a lot of hidden truth. From there, we get a most extraordinary medley of "throw-away" comedy songs, as Dean gives his own unique, sometimes non-PC twist to some old, familiar songs. The "Pretty Songs" medley that follows is less than serious in and of itself, as is the medley of Dean's classic Volare and On An Evening in Roma. This is followed by almost ten minutes of hilarious dialogue, after which Dean wraps up the show with his closing theme of Mr. Wonderful.

As I said, if you want Dean's romantic ballads, you'll need to go to his studio recordings; there are only a limited number of moments in which Dean truly unleashes his uniquely powerful voice over the course of this performance. The sound quality, while good, is also far from perfect. There is just no fullness to the sound of the music or Dean's voice, but given the nature of this performance this is not the type of problem it would have been had Dino been crooning romantic ballads for an hour without taking a break (or a drink). This is vintage Dean Martin the entertainer, and he elicits more laughter from his audience than most successful comedians can even dream of. Rarely have I laughed so much and enjoyed a performance so completely as I did this historic recording of Dean Martin Live From the Sands.

    5 out of 5 stars Funny! Romantic!.......2005-10-27

My husband and I both enjoyed this CD. You almost feel as though you're there listening to him in Vegas! The dialogue is funny without being vulgar, the music is great! Dean Martin's voice is wonderful. He plays all the favorites!

5 out of 5 stars There aint no children here..........2004-10-28

No one was more cool ever than Dean Martin, No ONE!
Live at the sands is absolutely GREAT and cool!
We were/are fortunate to be able to either have seen this artist at work or able to hear this CD.

Mr. Wonderful, thank you so much..

4 out of 5 stars Not for the P.C. Police.......2004-10-16

if you want to experience what it felt like to sit through Dean Martin's nightclub act, then sit back and enjoy this CD. He sings, clowns around, tells jokes, and makes eveybody feel glad they are there. A lot of his humor is off-color and by today's standards, the P.C. police would be all over him for some of the things he says. That's why it's great!
