Burning Metal.......2006-11-18

I found out about Chariot in something of a backwards way. A couple of years ago I stumbled across both albums by Dirty Deeds, a UK-based hard rock band fronted by one Pete Franklin, who was originally a member of New Wave of British Heavy Metal act Chariot. I was impressed enough by the Dirty Deeds albums to check out their debut album the Warrior as well as their second album Burning Ambition. Besides that, I'm a sucker for just about anything connected to the NWOBHM scene.

Despite arriving on the scene a bit late for the NWOBHM revolution, Chariot had many of the scene's trademark elements to their sound. They combined the polished finesse of Diamond Head with the raw aggression of Motorhead. Where the Warrior was more of a straightforward hard rock album, Burning Ambition is both more melodic and more metallic. The songs have a somewhat more epic feel to them, and remind me at times of US power metallers Fifth Angel. As much as I enjoyed the Warrior, with Burning Ambition the band improved is just about every possible way, from songwriting to production and even the album artwork.

Burning Ambition spent the better part of two decades without an official CD release, until Majestic Rock's 2004 reissue. The album has been digitally remastered and sounds terrific. NWOBHM fans will want to check this one out, as will fans of Franklin's later work with Dirty Deeds.

The second is better!.......2005-05-14

This is the second and final chapter in the history of this classic heayv metal London band from the eighties. MAybe their downfall was the fact that this album was released in 1986, and much people tought it had a dated sound.

But this is not true. Chariot rocks so simply, so hard, so raw, so energetic, that you will enjoy it no matter when. Burning Ambition had better production values than its antecessor, the great THE WARRIOR (1983). The line-up was Pete Franklin - vocals and guitar (the "boss" of the band), the excellent guitarist Scott Biaggi on lead guitar, John Smith on bass and powerful drummer Jeff Braithwaithe on drums.

BURNING AMBITION is very, very good.

Not very original, but rocks all the way through........2003-07-11

I had to buy this album as soon as it was released, because their previous album "Welcome to the End" is one of the best Punk albums I have ever heard. When I first heard this, I was disappointed, because it doesn't sound much like "Welcome to the End" at all. After a few listening times, however, I got over it and became familiar with the album. There are no weak points in the album, and basically any song could be a favourite. I might actually give this one 5 stars, if they hadn't done much better stuff earlier. If you like 1970's Clash, or Stiff Little Fingers, you probably like this one as well. However, if you are not familiar with the Generators yet, get "Welcome to the End" first.

This is only the best of the best and this collection is mixed together wonderfully with obscure interview out takes and other rare treats shoved in between songs. This is one of those compilation sets that provokes you to go out and buy a whole slew of records by artists that you weren't previously too sure about. The best song on there is "Vengence" It makes me wish I could hear it on vinyl. The only thing missing from these Burning Ambition sets is something by the Posers. Oh well, you can't have everything...
