Album Details
By the End of the Sixties Psychedelia was Pretty Much a Spent Force. Bands were Looking for Something Simpler and More Earthy. Crosby, Stills and Nash Had Gone all Acoustic and Harmonious, the Band Had Achieved a Return to Classic Americana, and James Taylor was Showing the World You Could Be Laid Back and Hip at the Same Time. However, Not Everyone Wanted to Ditch their Fuzzboxes. Inspired by Such Outfits as Cream, Blue Cheer, Hendrix and the Nascent Led Zeppelin, These American Bands were Moving Out of Psych Into Something Less Cosmic and Far Heavier. This Mix of Blooze Rock and Heavy Riffing is Loud and Nasty but it Pre-dates Metal. It's Pretty Tripped Out, but It's Not Really Psychedelia. It's the Sound of Guitar, Bass and Drums (And the Occasional Hammond Organ) Just as it was Meant to Be, Cranked Up and in Your Face. No Frills, Just Power Chords and Stomping Riffs. Stamp on that Big Muff and Solo Till Your Brain Drops Out.

Hard Psyche Classics in Perfect Fidelity.......2007-07-13
Leave it to Nick Saloman(alias Bevis Frond) to make a compilation of obscurites from the sixties the right way. This sure sounds like master tapes were used throughout due to the excellent mastering by Dave Blackman. If not they sure fooled my ears. I could go on about the excellent packaging, etc. but it all comes down to the music. Every song is excellent and exploding with originality but Road (Spaceship Earth) Yellow Pages (I'm a Man-easily equal to The Yardbirds original but I actually like it more) Lincoln Street Exit (Time has Come,Gonna Die) and The Fort Mudge Memorial Dump (The Seventh is Death) totally blew my mind. Thanks again Nick, you make the world a better place for all us nuts who refuse to become Millenium Mummies and hunger for more unheard treasures from the greatest decade of music there will ever be.

Wonderful! .......2005-09-19
Trevor is amazing. At just 18 years old....Trevor is going to be one to watch. He is captivating to see perform and his range is terrific. I am hooked. I cannot wait to watch his career.
Trevor Hall is an articulate and beautiful artist........2004-11-14
Everyone should buy "Lace Up Your Shoes" Each song talks about something meaningful and is presented in a very artistic way (i.e. the lyrics etc.) One of my personal favorites is "I guess it's hard to see the devil when he's wearing face paint" Trevor is a an artist that truly cares about his music and the people around him. And his words mean something, they weren't jsut strung together to be popular.
i highly reccomend this album, once you get it, you'll be glad you did.

Still Alive And Well.......2005-07-07
Helix survived two member changes from their first album, Breaking Loose, to this one, their second. Mike Uzelac (bass) and Leo Niebudek (drums) came aboard, filling some difficult shoes. Previous drummer Brian Doener was considered one of Canada's finest, and original bassist Keith Zurbrigg had a much loved stage persona that included wearing a tux every night.
The music doesn't suffer much for it. The band still managed to come up with enough great material to fill an album that stands up to the first. Title track "Breaking Loose" was a typical Helix party rocker, a fast song, often used to open their sets. "It's Too Late" was mid-tempo, similar to many tracks on the debut, and is one of their best tunes. Helix get serious for a moment with "Time For A Change", and "Hangman's Tree" also brings a few issues to the table. "It's What I Wanted" lightens the mood, a mid-tempo rocker with a great melody. Brent Doener comes back with another lead vocal on the track "Mainline", and "Thoughts That Bleed" is a proggy, slow closer with lots of dynamics.
So, if the songs are this good, why only four stars? One reason is the similarity to the previous album, Breaking Loose. You get the feeling that some of these tunes are updated versions of ones you've heard before. Also, as good as these new members are, longtime fans really miss Brian Doener on drums.
Pick it up, it's an album Helix are justly proud of.

Album Description
Critics & fans agree, this surprisingly stellar debut from Pittsburgh true metal revivalists, Icarus Witch proves that the spirit of traditional American heavy rock is alive. Big arena rock hooks meld effortlessly with dark, classy riffs, shredding Malmsteen influenced guitars & expert vocals in the range of Maiden, Priest & Queensryche. At this price, the limited edition debut digi won't last long. You can't afford not to have this in your collection!

Just like the greats before them..........2005-07-24
Anyone who listened to legendary metalists Iron Maiden, Queensryche, or Helloween will most likely fall in love with this short but sweet album. Obviously they are trying to sound like a Bruce Dickinson clone, but if you are looking for that familiar old sound, look no further than Icarus Witch.
Not just hype, true metal!.......2005-07-07
I'm always reluctant to believe press I read on a band and even moreso when the press can be submitted by anyone. However, I took a chance on this cheap CD by "American metal's new hope" because I love the old school sound and can't stomach the Ozzfest status quo anymore. Sure, I may be too young to have bought Dio & Whitesnake records when they first came out, but that's all the more reason to embrace a band from this generation who are not afraid to say -to hell with the trends, we're playing heavy metal!-
Gotta respect that & I do. This CD owns! And from what I've heard there is a full album coming out soon. I won't be the Last In Line. \m/ >

Metal reigns once more!.......2005-04-18
I'd be remiss if I did not honor this stellar, breakthrough band with some praise. Years have passed with little hope of meeting the edge some say, came from the eighties; when metal ruled the world. Well, don't bother trying to assuage the pain and void with the languid, banal bands that seem to be, sadly, accepted in the world of music today. Icarus Witch has swept in with an electrifying and even frightfully promsing sound. They'll leave you feeling as if you've not only taken one's senses down memory lane, but will ROCK YOUR FACE off with greater intensity than Ozzy's alterated states past. Or perhaps reel you in with subconscious mencing, melodic charm that would surely put even Manson-esque technique to shame.
Upon initial listen, my hair stood at attention all over my body. Wondering if my nightmares would now arrive in color, and dreams existing in the form of crooked smiles & the sandman witch. Desire has been unearthed.
Icarus Witch would have served up a fine plate of competition back in the day. Now, seem to set the bar higher than perhaps we've EVER known.
Without question, NEVER stop listening to the metal that breathed life into your eager bones. Divine inspiration will always follow the sound. However, if you're going to invest in any cd this year, DO NOT hesitate to pick up this release from Icarus Witch! Though it's a shorter play list, with only five songs, the ominous tone is set. The insatiable have been created deep within the ears of those daring & privy. Metal now rides it's dark, haunting and ravenous head once again.
This sovereign feast lies before you!
The kind of classic metal that's been missing for 20 years!.......2005-03-11
Prepare to be blown away by some old school metal from a new school band. If you're like me, you've been waiting for someone to come along and carry on that tradition of fire breathing metal that used to be everywhere in the '80s with killer bands like Maiden, Savatage, Queensryche, Dokken, Priest, Dio, King Diamond, Scorpions, W.A.S.P., etc. I first heard Icarus Witch on the evil lives Sabbath tribute & while they seem to have appeared out of nowhere (actually Pittsburgh, I think), they pick up right where the aforementioned bands left off in their prime. They actually have a unique, mystical metal sound, wearing those arena rock influences on their sleeves but never come off as clones or wannabes.
The first song is an Alice Cooper cover I've never heard but will check out the original now. Icarus Witch have great vocals that remind me of early Priest or the guy who sang on Yngwie's early stuff. They have dynamite guitars with plenty of solos (remember those?) but not overplayed. The bass parts really stand out as solid & melodic. I can't think of a bad thing to say about this really, other than I wish it were longer, but what the hell I only paid 5 bucks! It came in a cardboard sleeve that reminds me of a miniature vinyl record and even had a free sticker. This version is limited so I'm glad I got it right away. Can't wait to hear more Witch & hopefully see them play if they make it out this way.
