At the height of their 2004 "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)" fame, Big & Rich's one lament was that radio didn't know what to do with them, even though they sold two million copies of their debut album, Horse of a Different Color. Their follow-up, 2005's Comin' to Your City, likewise failed to score a Top 10 single, but still went platinum. Now comes their third album, and their first single, "Lost in This Moment"--an overtly emotional ballad about getting hitched--is selling like Gatorade at a chili cook-off. Are Music City's most likeable lunatics playing it safe? Well, it sounds that way. And if that's a disappointment, given their initial rollicking (and much needed) assault on staid Nashville, there's more bad news. Big Kenny's loopy songs of peace, love, and hippified unity (especially the overblown "Eternity," featuring John Legend) now sound so familiar, replete with Pentecostal blathering ("Brothers and sisters..."), you can sing along the first time you hear them. The duo sequences the album like a vinyl disc of old, with a virtual A-side (ballads) and B-side (rockers). Not surprising, the B-side wins, even if "Radio" owes too much to the self-aggrandizing hullabaloo of Comin' to Your City and Wyclef Jean drops by to rap a few country clichés. It takes an awfully long time for this album to be fun, but it eventually does, with an AC/DC cover ("You Shook Me All Night Long") and a Brooks & Dunnish turbo-tonker ("Loud"). Fans of Big & Rich already understand that they take their spirituality as seriously as their sinning. But next time, here's hoping they spend more time in Saturday night, and less in Sunday morning. --Alanna Nash
Album Description
On their third album, Big & Rich bust down the doors of country music with new sounds, new energy and new audiences. The title Between Raising Hell and Amazing Grace describes not only this collection but also Big & Rich themselves. Thank heaven for Big & Rich!

Not as much "fun" .......2007-08-03
The first 2 albums had a lot of "fun" songs on them. This one is a little slower, and focuses on more spiritual themes. But it is still a good album.
Big and Rich are still the greatest!.......2007-07-30
It doesn't take a genius to see that these guys are great! You can't listen to any of their albums without wanting to sing along. All their albums are filled with chart toppers (in my heart). And if it takes topping charts to get your attention, well they just happen to have the #1 song in the US. That's right guys, now the whole country knows that these guys have more than what it takes, and will keep on COMIN'! These guys will be around for years to come and girls (ok, so 31 isn't a girl) like me will love every minute of it! Keep it comin' guys, your the greatest!
Tops.......2007-07-28
This has got to be one of the BEST CD's I have ever heard. I love every song on here, ok, well...I have to say the remake of the ZZTOPP song is not a fave of mine, but the rest of the CD is definatly out of this world. This CD has not left my player since I got it and it is not leaving anytime soon!
Good buy.......2007-07-23
This is a good cd. Music is what you would expect from big & rich.
Not As Good As Previous Records by Artist.......2007-07-23
This cd was Ok but not as good as Big & Riches previous 2 cd's. The hard driving country they are known for was minimal on this record and that really disappointed me. I am used to loving every sone on their cd' san dI only liked about 3 on this cd. They can do much better.

Thanks you guys
Great listening indeed!!!!!!!!.......2007-07-12
I usually don`t take the time to review something for a site like this, as many others usually do a good job........but I have to write about this masterpiece........
Nowhere else today can you find music being made with this much devotion & realness, I could go on with track by track analysis, but there is no need here.......if your`re borderline on buying this cd....do not hesitate.
Thank you!.......2007-07-11
Thank you Chris and Rich for letting us in on these intimate recordings. This cd is truly a gift to the fans. I've been waiting a long time for this disc to be released and I can say that I am not disappointed. The scaled down nature of these songs makes them come across with such an emotional intensity. An artist's heart and soul laid bare for all to see. No frills, no gimmicks. Just smokin' Amoricana music at its finest. Just listen to their rendition of Driving Wheel and you'll know what I mean. I highly recommend this disc. Can't wait for the DVD in September!

Country music had no bigger story in 2004 than the rise of the Muzik Mafia, a renegade group of Music City misfits led by Big & Rich (Big Kenny Alphin and John Rich, the latter formerly of Lonestar) and Gretchen Wilson. Both acts shook up Nashville's lethargic, formulaic format--Wilson with her take-no-bull brand of redneck chic, and Big & Rich with their eclectic, wild-haired blend of honky-tonk, rock, rap, ballad, and western, the shoot-'em-up motif for their traveling circus, i.e., Wild West show. Their debut, Horse of a Different Color, which showcases the pair's unusual high-low vocal harmony, is both funny and irreverent ("Kick My Ass"), not to mention clever. (They sing "bad word" in place of a rhyming epithet.) Boasting "music without prejudice" in their self-mythologizing "Rollin' (The Ballad of Big & Rich)," they reference Charley Pride as "the man in black," and trot out country music's first African American rapper, Cowboy Troy. Yet race turns to "racy" in the duo's hit single "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)," the disc's least interesting cut. The easy laugh and rapped stanzas overshadow the smarter lyrics on the rest of the record, which concerns itself not only with frontier justice, but, surprisingly, with old-time religion (Jesus, tolerance, and in a song about sexual abuse, "Holy Water"). Like many professional funny men, Big & Rich--accomplished songwriters and (now) producers--are dead serious beneath it all. Even if this horse opera of a novelty act doesn't last, look for them to shape much of what gallops out of Nashville for a good, long run. --Alanna Nash

Novelty Not country.......2007-07-05
People hype this band saying how great they are "oh they are outlaws" nothing outlaw about them period. this is not what country music needs and whom ever decided to give these guys a contract should be fired. Now Both of them outside of this concoction they put together are talented songwriters John Rich formally of Lonestar writes for Gretchen Wilson and others. Don't know too much about Kenny. Now, if this is what YOU LIKE then Buy it !!! 1 star is too much
YeeHaw!.......2007-06-06
Big and Rich bring their premiere album to the world, and they bring it with gusto. It has been years since the world of country music has been rocked by anyone this good and willing to break the boundaries of the standards of country music.
From the opening lines of bringing you Country Music Without Prejudice until the final notes waft away, you will be enthralled with this album. This is one of the best albums in my music collection.
Big and Rich.......2007-02-20
It's a really fun cd to listen to...you can tell they had a lot of fun making it, and it's a nice mix between country and rock...

Anybody who needed a saddle to stay in the frantic groove of Big & Rich's 2004 debut, Horse of a Different Color, had better cinch it tighter for Comin' to Your City, the duo's much-anticipated follow-up: The album rocks far harder, and ventures into zones weirder than the Bermuda Triangle. Don't believe it? Check out "Soul Shaker," which employs screaming electric guitars and a vocal chorus reminiscent of '60s psychedelia, or "Caught Up in the Moment," about a spicy encounter of the mile-high-club kind. Then there's the self-congratulatory one-minute opener, "Freak Parade," which turns into an outsized kid's song à la Shel Silverstein, and the myth-making travelogue title track. And we won't even talk about the indescribably awful "Our America," a patriotic bonus track with fellow Muzik Mafia members Gretchen Wilson and Cowboy Troy that sounds like a Saturday Night Live parody. Yet while some will find the real-life "8th of November," featuring narration by Kris Kristofferson, worthy of tears and heartswelling emotion (it's about a Vietnam vet who survived an ambush on that day in 1965), there's really no great killer tune here. The surprise, hinted at on their first album, is how well John Rich and Big Kenny incorporate their pranks (risqué vocal asides, fevered carnival barking, instrumental in-jokes, gonzo and goofball humor) with their mainstream ballads and sweet/serious songs. "I Pray for You," with its angelic imagery, is as intense and spiritual a love song as has ever been written, while "Slow Motion" achingly details the shattering of a romantic affair. And even if these merry men can't resist a few off-putting and zany lyrics at the end of "Never Mind Me," it's a perfect piece of Eagles-eque soft-rock soul. There's some just plain bad music here, too ("Jalapeño"), but somehow that fittingly rounds out this wacko offering from the most creative and unpredictable team currently operating out of Nashville. --Alanna Nash
Album Description
The follow-up to 2004's Horse of a Different Color, Comin' To Your City once again has Big & Rich blowing the doors off Nashville with their sense of freedom. Comin' To Your City proves that the fun has just begun for Big & Rich.

Another Failed Effort .......2007-07-05
If this is what people call country music then I'm the Pope. They are nothing but a Novelty act although they are good songwriters and Rich came from lonestar he might consider returning. this is not a country album unless you feel this is your kind of country or you like rap or novelty songs this doesn't work for me at all. 1 star is too much. I will give them 5 stars for the 8th of November song.
What a joke.......2007-04-25
What a disgrace to real county music. I can't believe these guys market themselves as "Country". They are bubble gum pop music and nothing more. Just like Garth Brooks, Gretchen Wilson, Cowboy Troy, Toby Keith and all the radio friendly garbage that America gobbles up.
If you want some real country buy some David Allan Coe, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, Robert Earl Keen. Not this garbage.
Big and Rich Rule.......2007-01-17
Big and Rich are great in concert, video and on this CD. It is great for those who want their country to really rock.
Great Country.......2007-01-14
I like this because some of the songs are typical country, some a little more upbeat, and definitely some comedy. My favorite song is The 8th of November it holds special meaning for me.
WASTE OF MONEY .......2006-10-31
The only passably decent song on the whole CD is 8th of November, and even that gets old after awhile.

He's been shot nine times. Incarcerated. And stabbed up and down. And that's only what's happened on 50 Cent's down time. Hands down, 50 Cent is the biggest buzz emcee since Eminem (who just happens to be his label CEO), and Get Rich also features Dr. Dre on production, so it's a can't-miss record, right? Well, mostly. Get Rich is not filled with midtempo, radio-friendly numbers like "Wanksta," his thinly veiled Ja Rule dis first heard on the 8 Mile soundtrack. Instead, Cent brings the heat, not heater. He sheds his inner thug on "21 Questions," featuring G-funk crooner Nate Dogg showing some semblance of respect to the hotties, and then reverts right back to his thug persona on "In da Club," where he boasts "I'm into having sex, I ain't into making love." There's no "How to Rob, Pt. 2" here, although "Many Men" comes close, as he addresses some of the haters who may not fully get why he's now rap's big cheese. Surprisingly, the two Eminem-produced joints--"Patiently Waiting" (which thematically is very much like Em's "Lose Yourself"), and "Don't Push Me"--almost rival the beats supplied by Dre. Then again, it seems his most well-known cuts ("High All the Time" and "Wanksta," for example) are actually some of the weakest of the lot. Sure, Get Rich could never have lived up to the hype, it's nowhere near Biggie's Ready to Die or Nas's Illmatic, but there's no fast-forward material here, a near miracle in these times. --Dalton Higgins

Kelvin Martin Is Spinning In His Grave.......2007-06-01
Nowadays, whenever you think of the name "50 Cent", you would think about the commercial hip pop idol that doesn't care about his music and he thinks he's tough because he's been shot 9 times. Truth is, he was shot AT nine times, only 3 of the bullets hit him (one in the jaw, one in each leg). The real "50 Cent" was a robber known as Kelvin Martin, and he survived many bullet wounds (24 to be exact), but tragically, he died from the wounds in 1987.
Luckily, Martin doesn't have to live in a time when hip hop has reached its demise and is overflooded by fake, overmarketed hip pop idols such as Fiddy Cent. This CD is just proof that you don't need talent to make it big, and if you have talent, the media could care less.
First off, Fiddy can't rap to save his life. It might be the bullet that hit his jaw, but this guy sounds like a complete mess. Plus, there is multiple repetitiveness in lyrical content. The background beats are rather annoying and have no depth or soul to them. It's just nauseating. Listen to the song "In Da Club". It's hard to understand what he's saying, because he slurs throughout the chorus.
Overall, avoid this album like it's a WMD headed for your ears. You'll thank me later.
Underated, overated..it is what it is........2007-03-30
I felt I had to revisit this album. It's been nearly four years since 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin' dropped. At the time of its release, the majority of hip-hop heads, whether they like to admit it or not, were listening to 50's words as if they were the gospel. Most emcees who make their names off of mixtapes rarely blow, but 50 Cent managed to debut in a way that almost seems impossible four years later; over five million records sold in the United States alone. At the time of GRODT's release, G-Unit wasn't the million-dollar corporation it is today; it was a movement.
What's gone wrong since then, though? G-Unit DID oversaturate the market between 2003 and 2005, but all of the releases found within that time were of considerabley high quality. However, once 50's sophomore effort, the Massacre hit, it seemed like G-Unit fell off in terms of quality. The Unit was never an exceptional crew; they were certainly no Wu-Tang, or Mobb Deep. They did release great music though, which many of their fans and haters today seem to forget. The main problem most people have with 50 Cent is the fact that he could never live up to the hype; he was billed as an emcee of Nas or Jay-Z's caliber, but was really just an average lyricist with a really tight flow. What made GRODT sound so epic is the fact that 50's syrupy vocals, and the VERY high-budget production values presented it as a revolutionary project, despite the fact that it was no more than a hot debut by a talented, albeit not magnificient emcee.
Going back four years to this release, it's unbelievable how much the game has changed since then; and honestly, it hasn't been for the better. While there's plenty of emcees in the mainstream still capable of carrying the commercial game, there's also many mundane artists that make you miss the era of G-Unit. 50 Cent has been replaced by the likes of Mims, and G-Unit's old followers have turned into, for the most part, Dipset groupies. Tracks like This Is Why I'm Hot and We Fly High, while catchy, will make you miss something such as In Da Club, no matter how overplayed it was. Also, the numerous Jay-Z and T.I. impersonators will have you at least appreciate that while he wasn't an amazing rapper, 50 Cent carried a style all his own.
50 Cent is returning this year with his third studio album(well, at least that will see an actual release), and his recent tracks have been a breath of fresh air, surprisingly, in a genre that consist of dozens of one-hit wonders all following the same exact formula. Looking at the album without a previous bias, GRODT is a phenomenal album musically, and remains one of the dopest releases of the new millenium. 50 Cent may consist of nothing more than cliches, but whether he lacks substance or not, the fact remains that he is a wonderful entertainer with more charisma left pinky than most rappers, past, present, and future, possess in their entire bodies. With the exception of the poorly produced Blood Hound(which features a then-unknown Young Buck), Get Rich or Die Tryin' boasts a large amount of dope tracks, with little to no filler. If you can't feel tracks like Patiently Waitin', In Da Club, If I Can't, or Back Down after all these years, then you're too closed-minded to even stop hating on 50.
Hopefully 50 Cent's upcoming album will be more GRODT, and less Massacre, because if it is, it'll be a strong contendor for hip-hop album of the year. It maybe uncool to like 50 Cent in 2007, with the G-Unot crusade and all, but Get Rich or Die Tryin' stands as a defining album in the new era of hip-hop.
A Waste Of Potential & Skill!.......2007-03-17
50 Cent is a lot of things - a skilled rapper, an intelligent businessman, a gangster (can't believe I just said that), a misogynist, a sex symbol, a modern-day Pop-Rap icon, an excellent hook writer and a reasonably okay hook "singer" (and, if "High All The Time" is anything to go by, a crack-head) - but one thing he definitely isn't is a insightful lyricist. He's just another typical Pop-rapper who wastes his mic skills on materialism, clubbin', sex, misogyny and violence, and his debut album, "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'", is solid proof.
Judging by the album's narrow lyrical scope, the star-studded line-up of producers (Dr. Dre, Eminem, Denaun Porter, etc.), the naked album cover art (obviously, it's to attract groupies instead of deep thinkers), the minimal guest list (Tony Yayo, Young Buck, Eminem, Lloyd Banks & Nate Dogg), the unsurprisingly solid, hard-hitting production, the abundance of undeniable hooks and the publicity-attracting diss track ("Wanksta"), this album is clearly built for multi-platinum mass appeal instead of "Illmatic"-styled artistry. This is a shame, because the fact is that 50 Cent is a very good rapper with a strong, aggressive delivery. What 50 Cent seems to lack is artistic motivation (hell, it's called "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'" - can the materialistic intentions be any more obvious?).
Thankfully, there are a few gems to be found on this album. "Patiently Waiting" is full of clever lyrical wordplay and complexity, even if the subject matter isn't too deep, and with Eminem dropping a nice 16 bars and thumping horn / violin / bass production, the song definitely hits hard. One track that's even better is the stellar "21 Questions", where 50 Cent shows vulnerability without being too sappy over Midi Mafia's minimalist, guitar loop-driven production. Meanwhile, Nate Doog adds the icing on the cake with a pleasing hook. And as materialistic and misogynistic as "In Da Club" is, there's no denying it's catchiness and I can't fully criticise the song because I sung along to it when I was younger (which re-confirms 50 Cent as a Pop-rapper). Other than that, it's the same ol' typical Hip-Hop that's been regurgitated across radio airwaves, TV stations and the overall media for the past few 10 or so years.
As bad as I consider this album to be, sometimes I feel sympathetic for 50 Cent and this album. Considering the life he's lead prior to this album (been shot 9 times, amongst other things, has gotta suck), the violence, misogyny and materialism that pollutes this album seems understandable. Then again, Nas, Rakim and a host of other dope rappers have turned tragedy into artistic triumph, so I don't see why 50 Cent can't (or won't...believe it or not, he's not as stupid as he looks or sounds). Nonetheless, "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'" fails to register as a quality album to me. 1.5 stars!

CLASSIC!!!.......2007-03-15
Despite all the haters out there, particularly now for G-Unit & 50 Cent..take a listen to this. This album is 50 in his prime and contains some of Dre's best beats (some of which he was supposed to have used on the upcoming Detox, but felt generous).
Eminem's production is off da chain! I didn't know my boy could produce beats and baselines like that! It's true, 50 didn't have anything to do with the production of the beats, but his lyrics are really up to par in this album and his style is irresistable. That sounds gay, but whatever.
This 2003 release will live on to be the best rap album since Dre's Chronic 2001. It features other artists such as the boys from G-Unit, Nate Dogg and Eminem. This album is a straight classic in the hip-hop world, I would really recommend rap lovers to purchase this. Great debut by Curtis!

This new version of the Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack coincides with the movie's 30th anniversary (which is also celebrated by a special edition DVD). The CD is notable for several instrumental tracks by John Williams, as well as for "Any Day Now," a previously unreleased song performed by Perchik/Paul Michael Glaser (better known for his starring role in TV's Starsky and Hutch). The soundtrack is often compared unfavorably with the original 1964 cast album, in which Zero Mostel played the part of Tevye (here performed by Topol, who had been in the 1967 London production). But this CD has a lot going for it, including glossy remastering and, of course, Isaac Stern as the fiddler. In the end, whatever version you decide to pick up, Fiddler remains one of the most enduring musicals of all time. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Topol is best as the Papa.......2007-07-15
I have other versions of CDs of "The Fiddler of the Roof" but Topol is the best and this is one of the best CDs with Topol. As far as "The Fiddler On the Roof" goes, that is a thumbs up 5 star anytime story and songs.
Love it.......2007-05-16
I had looked everywhere for this CD. I am so happy to have found the "real" Fiddler on the Roof!
CP as Grandmother Tzeitel.......2007-03-30
At first, I thought this musical was weird but then I grew to like it. It has a sad ending but the thems in the movie are really interesting. Life really is like being a fiddler on the roof. In a musical coming up at my school, I am playign the part of Grandmother Tzeitel in Tevye's dream. I am excited to play the part and I think our musical will go very well!
Never Ending Joy!.......2006-11-22
The music from Fiddler on the Roof is exciting, fun, interesting and funny! This CD is mixed with humor, music from different cultures and a wide mix of different songs. Each song is so different that I can listen to it for hours. I was surprised how enjoyable and pleasent it really is. Although...it is easy to get this music stuck in your head!

This 1996 collection of Rich Mullins's finest work is a must-have for any Christian-music fan. A quick glance at the song list will make one marvel over the significant influence this masterful songwriter has in the CCM world. "Sing Your Praise to the Lord," Mullins's first recorded work, helped launch Amy Grant's superstar career. "Awesome God" has become an anthem sung by youth in many churches in America. But let's not forget the plaintive "Calling Out Your Name" or "Hold Me Jesus," two oft-covered numbers that further testify to Mullins's genius. The praise-and-worship theme that flows throughout Songs aptly captures the sincere spirit of this well-missed man. --Michael Lyttle

Praise to the Lord.......2007-07-08
Rich Mullins was and still is a tremendously gifted song writer and singer. I recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys music that will bring them closer to Christ.
Songs: classic Rich Mullins.......2007-06-08
Rich Mullins was one of the best songwriters to bless Christian Music, and this represents some of his best work. If you are unfamiliar with the depth of his writing, you will be amazed at the honest appraisal of the human heart that he reveals.
"If I stand, let me stand on the promise that You will pull me through; and if I can't let me fall on the grace that first brought me to You."
Meets me where I am.......2007-02-25
I came late to Rich Mullins. Faced with a new commute-from-hell, I asked my priest for advice on music to help me. I'm in Human Resources and I hoped to find something to help deliver me at the other end with any desire to serve my fellow man/employee. On her recommendation, I looked Rich up and settled on "Songs" to start. I have since joined the chorus of those who claim him as the voice of a generation. From "we are not as strong as we think we are" to "Hold me Jesus", this man spoke for me and to me. "You can't see yet where it is you're heading but one day you'll see the face of love..." I was in a meeting recently where we were asked to identify our spiritual heroes. There are many, but at that time, the first one that came to mind for me was Rich Mullins. I explained, in my small group, that it was sad he had died so young, that it seemed impossible such a spirit could be silenced. One of our group, who had never heard of him, challenged me to remember that as long as his words live on through those of us who he spoke to, his spirit will live on. And to that (and this), I say Amen.
Best CD of all time.......2006-11-11
This has to be the best CD of all time. I listen to many different types of music, but this is the best CD I own. Rich really had a special gift with words and music. After completely using up two tapes, I finally bought a CD and keep it in my CD changer all the time. I have given this CD to several people as a gift and everyone loves it. Thanks Rich for a great collection of "Songs".
What a gift to leave us with!.......2006-10-21
This album stands alone in Contemporary Christian music. Whereas so much of CCM features "power vocal" songs with a bible verse or single observation as a hook and run-of-the-mill Nashville production, Rich digs deep. The lyrics run the gamut from the playful to the poetic to the profound to the deeply personal - this man did not simply parrot Christian platitudes; he REALLY "got it" and communicated it. And how he communicated it - his vocals have an earnestness and urgency that power vocalists can only wish for. The songwriting reflects a level of craft that is found almost nowhere else in popular music. His instrumental versatility (excellent on hammer dulcimer, very good on piano, solid on acoustic guitar and mandolin) give his music a range remiscent of Led Zeppelin and the Beatles. Although some find the studio versions of his music over-produced, I find them fresh and compelling. This CD is the best of the best from the very best that Contemporary Christian Music has to offer. Even when compared to pop musicians in general, these works stand up. As a pro in the business that knew him once told me, Rich was in a class all by himself.

Great to Hear All those great Voices from the Past.......2007-07-05
I just wanted to confirm what the first reviewer had to say about this CD. To hear Ethyl Merman, Mary Martin, Andrea McCardle etc. singing their trademark songs brought a lot of memories from the mid-centry musical theater back again. The last song by Glynis Johns is especially poignant.
You certainly can't beat the price!
A Good One!.......2006-11-10
This is a very good CD, mostly because it's the original artists. I've had some that were re-recorded by no name artists that were ghastly. This one is a really good one--including the sound quality. If I had one wish, I would wish it were longer!

Alabama-based Rich Boy is the protégé of erstwhile rapper, turned producer Polow Da Don. Polow's banner year in 2006, including hugely successful tracks for the Pussycat Dolls ("Buttons") and Fergie ("London Bridge"), has transitioned nicely into 2007 as Rich Boy already has one certified cross-coastal anthem in the bag: "Throw Some Ds." Also on the rise is the stalking, scowling "Boy Looka Here," and expect "Get to Poppin" to hit with its exotic sound and beefy beats. Clearly, Rich Boy is not hurting for potential singles yet his debut doesn't really cohere much beyond that. Partly, it's that Rich Boy is competent but not extraordinary, reminiscent of any number of Southern rappers with their scrunched-up drawls, yet lacks the kind of intense charisma that a T.I. or Lil Wayne pumps out. And unexpectedly, despite Polow's guidance, this album lacks a diverse, relentless sonic energy that a peer like Timbaland would likely have brought. The album doesn't fizzle but nor does it sizzle. --Oliver Wang
Customer Reviews:
Beats Get 4 stars, Rich Boy Gets 1 .......2007-07-09
If someone - anyone else -- had been given the same production courtesy of Don Da Polow, this would be a southern classic. The tracks are BANGIN'! No complaints there.
But Rich Boy CAN'T RAP. I don't know what else to say. He CANT RAP. He's may be one of the worst to ever pick up a mic on a major label release. On the Laziness meter he outranks Snoop Dogg and Fabolous combined. The Don should boycott him and work on beats for artists who can really contribute.
2-1/2 stars -- Rich with wackness.......2007-06-20
When I looked at the Billboard Hot 100 and noticed that Rich Boy's "Throw Some D's" was making moves, I wondered who he was, but then I thought that maybe I didn't want to know. And after listening to that song as well as his self-titled debut, I wish I'd trusted that instinct.
As usual, I agree with Norfeest and Musac Critic's respective reviews. The production on this album is pretty on-point for the most part, but the thing is, this isn't an instrumental album. Thus, the problem is that Rich Boy really ain't that great of a rapper. I never liked "Throw Some D's"; however, it's still better than a lot of the other songs, like "The Madness" and "Get to Poppin'".
There are also a few songs whose subject matter seems to change in the middle of them. "Let's Get This Paper" appears to be a political song, but then every verse ends with "let's go get this paper". And the disgusting "Touch That A**" has the first verse suddenly ending with quickly mentioning a hater followed by a round of shots. What does that even have to do with the song?
Guest stars don't fare very well either. I have no idea what John Legend and Big Boi are doing on this album, but surprisingly, their contributions on the respective tracks "Ghetto Rich" and "And I Love You" really aren't that great (and the latter isn't helped by Pastor Troy being wack as usual). Mark Twain (???) fails to impress on "Gangsta"; and if you think YoungBloodZ's Sean Paul will save "What It Do", you'll be disappointed because he only appears during the chorus. And the obligatory end-of-album remix-of-the-first-single contains the weird combination of Lil Jon, Andre 3000, Jim Jones, Murphy Lee, Rick Ross and the Game.
As I stated earlier, well-produced tracks are ruined by sub-par lyricism, like "Role Models" and especially "Hustla Balla Gangsta Mack" (but "On the Regular" sounds like a wannabe Jazze Pha song). Rich Boy doesn't really have enough skills to have a lasting impression, so I wouldn't suggest picking this album up.
Anthony Rupert
bich boy...lol.......2007-05-23
Ok is rich boy missing half his tongue or does he have his man's love in his mouth? His rhymes come out of his mouth like he is mumbling. Not to mention that the rhymes that you do understand are super wack and unlyrical. This boring so called album has some dope beats on some of the songs, some ridiculously annoying hooks, and one great guest appearance. Andre 3000's verse is better than all the other songs on the album combined. Nelly, jenny jones are horrible emcees and they add to the tom foolery of this album. Listening to this album is similar to ripping your fingers nails off with pliers. I agree with norfeest, wait for the instrumental.
LISTEN.......2007-05-17
This isn't a review. I'm just putting this on a popular CD to tell you something. The rap game is weak lately, and clowns like Rich Boy are making it worse. If your looking to break away from this stuff, go to Myspace and check out the tracks of Mu Dills, Snipe-Won, Big Lou, Jace the Great, and some others. They very tight. Notice they all from New Jersey, that's where I'm from. Lotta people look at Jersey and go "Dat ain't nothing compared to Compton or St. Louis or (etc.)," but places like Paterson, East Orange, Newark, and Camden are some of the most dangerous places in the U.S. and these guys be reppin bout it. Don't rate this down cuz it ain't bout the CD, just give these guys a go. Thanks to those who listened.
P.S. Not a kid, just don't wanna sign in.
Represents for Mobile Nicely.......2007-05-10
I purchased this CD mostly because Richboy is from my hometown of Mobile, AL and because I thought "Throw some D's" was bangin. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the album had some other decent tracks on it as well and was well worth the purchase. I would have given it 5 stars but everyone needs some room to grow. He definitely has a lot of potential especially if he chooses to grow a little beyond the typical rap subject matter of cars, rims, and drugs. But it is a rap album and I guess he has to write about what he knows. My favorite tracks are Throw some Ds followed closely by Boy Looka Here (I especially like the video for this song because it shows scenes from a Mardi Gras parade that I happened to be at when I was home visiting), Get this Paper, and Get to Poppin. A lot of people commented on the way that he sounds when he talks....that happens to be my favorite thing about Richboy. His accent reminds me of home. It sounds very genuine and as a fellow Mobilian I understand him completely. I hope he comes out with another album and isn't just a flash-in-the-pan one album wonder. I think he has the kind of energy that can take him far if he sticks to it.

A companion to the fabulous PBS series, the 21-song, 77-minute The Best of "Broadway: The American Musical" provides about as good a single-disc compilation as anyone could hope for. (There's also a five-CD version.) What sets it apart from so many other "best of Broadway" collections is its breadth--because it had access to a variety of record-label vaults it doesn't have to try to disguise gaps by using revivals or solo recordings. Here you get all the authentic stuff, including: Paul Robeson singing "Ol' Man River" from the first modern American musical, Show Boat; Ethel Merman singing "You're the Top"; the title song from Oklahoma!; Julie Andrews singing "I Could Have Danced All Night" from My Fair Lady; West Side Story's "America"; Betty Buckley singing "Memory" from Cats; Hairspray's "Good Morning Baltimore"; and "Defying Gravity" from Wicked, the newest show discussed in the PBS series. And it's hard to argue with the songwriters represented: Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Frank Loesser, Lerner and Loewe, Leonard Bernstein, Bock and Harnick, Kander and Ebb, Stephen Sondheim, and Andrew Lloyd Webber, among others. Obviously, no single-disc compilation could ever please everyone (did we really need two ALW songs?), but as a sampler intended for people who watched the series and want to hear more of the Great White Way, The Best of "Broadway: The American Musical" can't be topped. --David Horiuchi
Customer Reviews:
Some interesting choices, indeed.......2006-03-02
This is a pretty good compilation, but I have to wonder at some of the choices that went into it.
"Good Morning Baltimore" is almost the least impressive song from Hairspray. "You Can't Stop the Beat" was a much more anthemic song from that show.
I agree that it's too bad Les Mis didn't make it in. I would have traded that for anything Sondheim, although that's a personal preference :) .
Still, the opportunity to hear the original performers and orchestras perform these works, all in one place, is a great deal.
Great CD.......2005-11-01
This one plays in the car, on the ipod and in the house. When the kids were little they would ask if we could take them to "The Street". That is what they called Broadway (little did they know at that time how famous that street is). They still love it and we can not get enough of it. This CD covers the best and makes you want to go and see a live performance. You can not beat that.
Great selections, but bad transfers.......2005-07-27
This is a great taste of broadway. If you enjoyed the B'Way series at all, then you will probably enjoy this CD. My problem with it is that some of the songs sound like they were not remastered at all- the transfer to CD is terrible. The orchestrations in "You're the top" by Ethel Merman are muffled, and the song sounds like it was taken straight from an old record and slapped onto the CD without fixing it up. It doesn't sound very clear, which is a bit upsetting and annoying. Maybe this is just because that particular recording is older than some of the songs chosen to be on this CD. The more modern songs sound crisp and new and beautiful. "Swanee" is also very low quality as if it were just taken off of a record and put on the CD without any restoration. I just feel that these songs deserved better treatment and that we as customers deserve better treatment. Decca could have restored these songs and made them sound really good, but they decided just to slap them on the CD without touching them up.
I am surprised that nothing was chosen to be on this recording from Les Miserables since it had been on Broadway for 16 years and its tour is running until 2006. There were selections from Cats, Phantom of the Opera and Wicked, so I am not sure why nothing was chosen from Les Miserables.
Other than these few nit pickings, I think that this is a great introduction to musicals. It gives a little taste across the spectrum. Try getting the cast recordings of the songs that you really like on this collection. It's worth buying if you're a huge broadway fan.
Yes this is Some of the Best of Broadway!.......2005-04-08
This CD from Decca Broadway is a wonderful selection of some of
the "Greatest Hits" of the Broadway stage. Decca and Sony have
done an excellent job of remastering the various recordings, some
of which still show some of their age, but come across quite
well. Are there a lot of songs that I would have put on this
disc? Yes, but the ones on here are good choices. I may have to
get a copy of the Five disc set and the DVD's just to see if any
more of my favorites made it on the list. What this disc seems to
try to do is show the evolution of the Broadway song from it's
early days to the present. It succeeds quite well I think.
If you enjoy Broadway theater this CD is a must!
The music of Broadway comes alive.......2004-10-07
I loved listening to this CD. The music from Broadway's best loved musicals are on this album. I recogized most of these songs, even though I've only seen a few of them on the local stage. I have so many favorites on this CD. It is hard to pick one. I'm a big fan of Barbara Streisand. I loved her performance of People from Funny Girl. Memory is the hit song from the musical Cats. Betty Buckley's performance of this song is so emotional and sincere.
I loved the song Annie. It is a wonderfully optimistic song performed by the original Annie Andrea McArdle. Another highlight for me is the song One performed by the cast of a Chorus Line. Luck Be A Lady Tonight is another of my favorite broadway songs on this CD from Guys and Dolls. The music of the night is a beautiful song by Michael Crawford from Phantom of the Opera. Richard Kiley has such a strong and powerful voice. He sounds so inspirational singing The Impossible Dream from Man from La Mancha. My dream is to see some musicals on Broadway someday and listen to these songs performed live.
I'm surprised that there isn't any music from Miss Saigon or Jesus Christ Superstar included here. I think they are classic musicals with great songs Maybe they will appear on a future compilation from PBS.
