Beveled puzzle shapes on the cover art of Fab Four Suture beg the question: where does Stereolab's tenth full-length fit into the prolific act's fifteen year career? Is it a bold new direction, a weird misstep, or are the avant-pop tastemakers treading water? Fanboy internet sites seem disappointed with this one, but that's perhaps because their writers are still in college and they think that thinking too much is what it's all about. (Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar, you know.) Laetitia Sadier's uplifting lyrics may sound lifted from bad translations of Situationist graffiti, but even the band doesn't take that side of things too seriously, especially at this point. To answer the previous question, Suture treads water, yes, but marvelously so. This is the sound of one of the best and most important indie bands of the last 20 years reveling in their own, neat universe. It's like a genre novelist playing with characters and situation at the end of a trilogy, if that doesn't sound too silly to say. They've yet to fully heal from the horrible loss of keyboard/vocalist Mary Hansen, but it's just wonderful to hear them having fun again; they fully deserve it. --Mike McGonigal
Album Description
Spin Magazine hailed Stereolab as one of pop's 50 most influential ensembles. Over fifteen prolific years, the band has produced qualitatively consistent and unique music that has been instantly recognized by media. In addition to over a dozen glittering LPs, their back catalog is littered with fan-pleasing gems: limited editions, one-off collaborations, split singles, etc. This CD/double 10-compilation also includes songs from the previous 7-inch series released in September 2005. "England's lounge-pop heroes" - Blender. "Stereolab's unmistakable cosmonaut pop...was a trademarked stamp of the '90s. No one else managed to duplicate their retro-futurist harmony or even come close to naming their albums with the same pre-Fridge Magnet Poetry serendipitous absurdity" - Fader.

DEEP, BEAUTIFUL POETIC AND DIVERSE ALBUM!!!.......2006-09-11
Fab Four Suture is a "DEEP-Beautiful", poetic and diverse album, collecting a series of six 7" singles (very limited editions hard to find) from 2005 and 2006, is an AMAZING RECORD.
"Robust" is a perfect descriptive word for the album, which presents a full, confident-sounding Stereolab. On Fab Four Suture Stereolab's genre obsessions and instruments are woven together tightly, their sound dense and full. Horns make a notable impression, and along with a certain style of guitar lick, they help to evoke `70s funk on tracks like "Eye of the Volcano". Synthesizers are often in abundance, and on songs like "Visionary Road Maps" and "Vodiak", they are used in a way that's evocative of `80s new wave pop, not just the usually referenced Krautrock of the `70s. Those two songs also share a storybook-like aura of fantasy, one which is evoked through textures and touches during much of the album.
Fab Four Suture opens and closes with a theatrical concept "Kyberneticka Babicka" which frames the album as a warped carnival dream. One of the best tracks in this album is 'GET A SHOT OF THE REFRIGERATOR' so freaky... so nice... so intelligent (about intention) and so cool.
The concept of this album is more deep a harder than others Stereolab Albums. It's so beautiful and hard than freak melodies, the perfect Stereolab way. The lyrics are full the actuality world situation and the music takes greats and nice references from psychedelic sounds and specially Philip Glass discography influences. Be part of STEREO-LAB series tales.
Stereolab report 'A+'.......2006-04-23
I love every stereolab album that I have bought just about equally. Now granted I only own 4 albums so.... This one is no exception. The first thing I want to point out is the horns. There is some really terrific stuff on some of the tracks like Interlock, Eye of the Volcano and especially the begining of Plastic Mile. I also feel that they have been able to translate some of the 'warmer' vibes from the previous release (thats what they tell me at least, I don't own that one..) while maintaining a little more of the edge from some of the earlier albums (I own some of those). I pretty much love all the songs... even the droner 2 parter Kyperneticka Babicka (I even invented a little impromptu melody that I sing overtop of the chords in the car to work). I won't review each track because I don't necessarily have the names with the songs yet considering when I bought it I put it in my car cd player on repeat and have not taken it out since.
I'm figuring out that 4 albums is simply not enough. I think I'll buy Cobras next....
Buy This Lab!.......2006-04-21
Only Stereolab could do this. They've been together for well over a decade and still manage to produce truly wonderful music. This collection grows over a couple of listens then suddenly blooms in the most excellent way. Lean and sophisticated, this album get it's hooks right in and doesn't let go. Not since 'Peng!' have they been so hypnotically beautiful. This really should be the soundtrack to the summer.
Core 'Lab people will not be disappointed..........2006-03-28
It's funny how fickle people have been about this album. It's almost a shame Emperor Tomato Ketchup and Dot & Loops were so great because people just can't seem to move beyond them. Fab Four Suture is an utterly flawless evolution of the groop's sound. The new releases and impressive tour have proven that Stereolab hasn't missed a beat, despite hardships they've known in recent years. Personal highlights of the album: Plastic Mile, Whisper Pitch, and Interlock. Don't hesitate about picking this one up.
Amazing!!.......2006-03-28
When I bought this cd, I practically ripped it open and shoved it in my cd player, because I couldn't wait any longer. I had heard "Eye of the Volcano" prior to this cd's release, and it left me very excited to hear the rest.
The album begins with "Kybernetická Babièka Pt. 1". When I first heard this, it frightened yet exhilarated me, I loved it at first listen. It reminds me of a siren and I think it is a good use of voice sampling, but as interesting as I find this track, it really does start to wear on your nerves after awhile. It's now a track I tend to skip.
Track 2-"Interlock: When this song begins, the beat reminds me of James Brown, and makes you want to get down and funky. Then (as Stereolab often does) the song changes in the middle, with lyrics like "We can learn to respect each other". This is my favorite part of the song.
Track 3- "Eye of the Volcano": I think this is a great song, it almost sounds suspenseful, like a 60's mystery movie.
Track 4- "Plastic Mile": One of my favorites, although I love most of the songs equally. It's almost creepy, but beautiful.
Track 5- "Get a shot of the Refrigerator": This has a great beat to it. Another favorite.
Track 6- "Visionary Road Maps": Sounds like an 80's dance hit, a good club song. The switch at the end is absolutely awesome.
Track 7- "Vodiak": Cute song, but not really a favorite.
Track 8- "Whisper Pitch": A hauntingly stunning song!!
Track 9- "Excursions Into "Oh-a-oh": Another danceable track. Listen-able.
Track 10- "I was a sunny rain phase": Sounds like a sampled super Mario game. My least favorite on this album, but still not a bad song.
Track 11- "Widow Weirdo": Great song. A good way to wind down an album.
Track 12- "Kybernetická Babièka Pt. 2": Thus brings us to the end of the album. All it is Track 1 with a fade in at the beginning, and if you listen closely, you will notice that the order of loops are slightly varied from Track 1, but hardly noticeable. Interesting, but quite unnecessary. If your going to end an album with the first song, it should be shorter.
I hope this helped. It is very difficult to describe Stereolab's music, because while it does have an distinct sound, they always use a eclectic selection of instruments and sounds. I'm sorry to hear that some people did not find this album impressive, because I think it's the most amazing thing I've heard in a long time. It seems to me that they experimented a lot more with reverberation and mixing, it is very well produced. There is not one track on here I disliked, although I have my favorites. It's just too bad that it's not very long. All I hope is that Stereolab is not nearing the end, because this sounds like a beginning to me.

REHASHED!.......2002-09-22
Ok I really did like East Side Milita great f-king instrumentals and s-it like that but this album's instrumental's, vocal's, and nething else I can think of ... soooo bad. Take my word I did not enjoy this album at all it's all rehashed you hear me rehashed! So do yourself the favor and avoid buying this follow up... it only got 2 stars from me because I like the cover pic.
Unfair.......2002-07-31
This album uses songs from 10 ton Pressure. Check the credits on that album. In "Suture" Jared took Joe Frank's name off the songs from 10 Ton Pressure, also he is not getting paid. Do not buy this.
Awesome CD from an awesome band.......2001-02-22
Well, what can I say? I've only listened to them for some time now, and this Cd is a must for all fans who missed the classic Ten Ton Pressure EP. Jared sounds great in his usual fashion, and props to Dylan for being the man. It's a ... shame they broke up in 97, but in my eyes they definitely kick .... For all those who are into industrial and techno like I am, this CD is worth every penny.
If You Missed Out..........2001-02-10
This album is perfect for Chemlab fans that aren't lucky enough to own Magnetic Fields Remixes or the Electric Molecular single. The first half of this disk is a straight re-release of the aforementioned EP, and the next three tracks are the KMFDM and Black Box remixes from Electric Molecular. After that, we're given more excellent remixes from East Side Militia that were originally released as promo only. Finally, you're treated to the only new track on here, Static Haze- the "lost" suture. While there is only one track on here that hasn't been released before in another form, this disk is worth picking up if you don't own the complete Chemlab discography already, especially when you consider that all of the original forms of these tracks are rare and out of print. It's also a decent way to hear how Chemlab evolved over their (unfortunately) short career. While Burnout at the Hydrogen Bar (one of the greatest albums ever released in this author's humble opinion) is still a better buy, this disk is by no means a waste of money.
good album, but really just a rehash of old songs.......2001-02-01
when i first heard about this, i thought it was going to be the new studio album that jared has been talking about. don't be mistaken, because it isn't. suture is a re-release of the magnetic fields remixes album (which also included all the songs from the 1990 chemlab debut "ten ton pressure") and the out-of-print remixes from the electric molecular and exile on mainline singles. tagged on the end is what appears to be a previously unreleased version of jesus christ porno star, and a new song, static haze. if you already have the afforementioned albums, this really isn't worth getting unless youre a chemlab completist. however, it is nice to have all the tracks on one disc, and they are all very good songs. even the ten ton pressure portion stands the test of time after a decade (however these are exclusively electronic songs---NOT in the style of later chemlab). again, this is overall a good album, but not enough new stuff on it to make me give it more than 3 stars. if you've never heard chemlab before, go buy Burn Out At The Hydrogen Bar. That's your best bet.

400 Years rocks!!.......2001-02-06
This "new"/"old" album is worth every cent. I watched them live with Delvic in western Mass. The album is a carbon copy of the energy they can give you in a live environment. Like Transmit Failure their latest recording, It always packs a punch and yet keeps an eery melodic flow to it.This is a great record for anyone into Hardcore, emo, indi, pop, rock, and even heavymetal. I think this is a must have for any collector! Four hundred years is four very nice down to earth people who would be glad to shake your hand and say hello after the show. Check them out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...

Frontier - 'Sulture' (Perishable) EP.......2005-01-15
Frontier is a Chicago based trio whose members include Stephen Wessley-guitar,Kevin Ireland-bass and Michael Tsoulos-drums.'Sulture' is actually a six-track 30 minute EP.But considering the asking price,it's a real steal. Some might label this CD as indie rock or perhaps trance noise rock.Either way,it's a decent find. The tunes that I found most enlightening were the techno like "Nutley 10",the somewhat atmospheric "Aether" and "Strong City"(the disc's only song with actual vocals).Just might appeal to fans of Spectrum,The Verve,Spiritualized and possibly the Flaming Lips.
