Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Excellent tribute.......2000-11-20

Satyricon's version of "Kathaarian Life Code" is a stellar piece of work, basically its an updated version of the original song. Very well done. Enslaved's rendition of "Natassja in Eternal Sleep" is absolutely stunning, perfectly matches the original. Thorns completely butchered "The Pagan Winter" with their awful techno-robot sounds and vocals. Emperor's version of "Cromlech" is killer, enough said. Dodheimsgard brutalized "Green Cave Float", a bad song in the first place, by adding a pointless piano solo at the end among other things. Gehenna's version of "Transilvanian Hunger" is absolutely smashing, very in your face and heavy. Gorgoroth's version of "Slottet I Det Fjerne" is terrible in every aspect. And as for Immortal's version of "To Walk the Infernal Fields," I definitely expected better. The vocals lack the intensity that Nocturno Culto has, and the instruments are too soft.

3 out of 5 stars GOOD CD.......1999-05-31

track by track description of songs:SATYRICON - kathaarian life code "this is a fair attempt to cover and absolut classic blackmetal song. neither the vocals nor the tone of the instruments matches the intensity of the original, but interesting to hear a different version of this song.ENSLAVED - natasha in eternal sleep "flawless recreation of this song. very fast guitar playing, perfect blasting drums. and the vocals are evil sounding, but not as brutal as the original.THORNS - the pagan winter "very interesting track!!! this group named "thorns" does a robotic sounding rendition of this most treasured darkthrone song. TRANSFORMERS ATTACK!!!EMPEROR - cromlech "flawless, heavy, even more precise than the original, and the added synth is beautifully dark.DODHEIMSGARD - green cave float "mediocre attempt at this song by a very good blackmetal band(dodheimsgard) sort of innacurate on the sung parts, but still decent, also cool to see a band choose to cover a obscure song!GEHENNA - transylvanian hunger "sort of good, but not as perfect as the original .GORGOROTH - slottet i det ferne "sick, twisted version of this simplisticly written darkthrone song, very interesting listenIMMORTAL - to walk the infernal fields "this could have been alot more enthusiastic, especially in the vocal delivery. the instruments have an appropriate "necro" type sound, but the vocals are a little weak. but hey THIS IS IMMORTAL!ok there you have it, a review of this tribute cd. in my opinion, the only band on this that did a better job at playing a darkthrone song than darkthrone themselves was EMPEROR. their version of CROMLECH is so perfectly heavy that it is hard to believe EMPEROR did not try to reproduce this instrument sound on their own albums!?! oh well. HAIL THE MIGHTY DARKTHRONE!!!EX-TER-MI-NATE!!!
