3 out of 5 stars Great line-up of axemen...........2007-07-26

Decent songs, good production... not a fan of Kelly Keeling. I first heard him on some Michael Schenker albums & then saw him sing live w/Schenker. I couldn't stand him. Should have reworked these w/other folks. Joe Lynn Turner, Graham Bonnet, Sebastian Bach... how about Gary Barden from Schenker's band? Being the drum god that he is & getting all the heavy-hitter GTR players, he could have found a better singer or singers. I'd give it a 4th star, but I just don't dig Keeling's voice.

3 out of 5 stars Guitars of the World Unite !.......2007-01-04

I bought this based on a Goldmine magazine review.
The critic seemed to think it was quite the amazing record but I should have been forwarned by his glowing ravings of the bass and drums.
What ?
Don't get me wrong, there is some good guitar work here - the Brain May and Neil Schon sections stand out.
Somehow, old Carmine owed a few favors and let John McEnroe and Steven Seagal play a couple tunes.
Actually, the Seagal song isn't bad (it's not clear which guitar he plays)but steer clear of McEnroe's tune.
He should have kept to air guitar on the tennis racket.
Worth a listen, in a retro sort of 70's kind of way, but nothing special.

3 out of 5 stars Finally, the US release of the compilation.......2006-10-07

Made in USA in 2006, Serial# NMS-055, Playing Time 74:02

This release has the same content as the german pressing of the CD, but is much more affordable...

I forgot to include in my review of the German pressing the fact that there is a studio version of the "Travers & Appice" cover version of the Rod Stewart "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy", which was co-written at the time by Carmine Appice.

But besides that, the other 13 tracks have been compiled from the Japanese releases of the "Guitar Zeus" and "Guitar Zeus 2 - Channel Mind Radio" CDs, previously released in 1995 and 1997 respectively.

If you haven't heard those 2 albums, I suggest this as an affordable way (compared to the price of Japanese imports) to get an eclectic sample of those albums. Unfortunately, I found the songwriting to be generally weak, and even with the line-up of guitarists present on the effort (1 per track), their performances are generally un-spectacular. The musical direction is also all over the rock spectrum, which makes for an odd assemblage.

I can only recommend this to the completists (i.e. if you must have everything Sambora, or Malmsteen, or ______), and even then, save your money and put it on your Christmas list...

5 out of 5 stars Carmine Appice is AMAZINGLY Talented! .......2006-12-14

I beg to differ with the reviewer below, Carmine Appice is one extremely talented drummer, (and a good person from when I knew him.) He's played with the best of the best in classic rock music for a reason - His talent and composition is outstanding!

3 out of 5 stars Misleading description... this is a compilation!.......2006-10-07

Though the publishing and copyright of this album is stated as 2006 on the CD's tray card, it actually consists of tracks lifted (as they were) from the 1st and 2nd "Guitar Zeus" albums (i.e. "Guitar Zeus" and "Guitar Zeus 2 - Channel Mind Radio",) released in Japan back in 1995 and 1997 respectively. Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Guitar Heaven.......2002-10-16

This Cd is absolutely sublime. Not only are the performances great, but the songwriting (in most cases) is superb. Carmine, Kelly and Tony gel incredibly well. Kelly Keeling's vocals need to be heard to be believed, as he molds his voice to fit the mood of each tune. My faves are the Zakk Wylde performance, "Code 19", and Warren DeMartini on "Perfect Day". Apparently Carmine Kelly and Tony wrote all these songs.....if you don't like this CD, you don't enjoy REAL guitar playing.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest band in 25 years, one of all-times greatest!!!!!!!.......2001-08-22

As Guitar Zeus 0ne, this is unbelieveable! ...Great catchy, original, smart, beautiful songs. Perfect day send chills down my spine every time I hear it, no matter how many times I've already heard it. But all songs are great, not a single 4-stars song in here. Tony Franklin makes the bass SING, and Kelly Keeling has to be the most underrated singer of all times. He is as good as, or better than Coverdale, Hughes, Dio, Gillan. And Carmine is Carmine. Living legend of the drums. Highly reccommended.

    5 out of 5 stars A very underrated CD.......2001-05-26

Between GZ-I and GZ-II I cannot believe that these CD's have not had an impact in the states. These two CD's are a guitar enthusiasts dream come true. Neal Schon, Brain May, Steve Morse, Slash, Paul Gilbert, Doug Aldrich, Yngwie Malmsteen, Elliot Easton, Leslie West, Zakk Wylde, John Norum, Ted Nugent, Ty Tabor, Warren DeMartini, Dweezil Zappa, Kenji Kitajima,Vivian Campbell. The list goes on and on. The material on both CD's are TOP notch. Carmine mentioned above the amount of time and effort that he, Kelly and Tony put into these projects. I tip my hat off to them. This is excellent material. I highly recommend it. Both CD's are worth every penny. Both CD's are played frequently to and from work. For as long as Carmine and co. put out GZ CD's I'll be anxious to buy them. Thanks for your music.

Carmine never lets me down..I bought it on his name and as usual,Killer. some repeats from guitar zeus 1 with out the arrogant expanding, but genius Yngwie Malsteen, This solo is better than Yngwies, Ilove Doug Pinnic,Essence of cool. Kelly sounds like so many different singers, good cd,,,although I must say the solos are too much. But haaa,,,These Japanese Guitarists are good. Hiroya ,,hatake.worth every cent.

Man, How I wish I could give ten stars. I'm a musician and I've been buying cd's and lp's for 20 years, and just when you thought you heard everything good that exists, something blows in your face. It's been a long time since I listened to something that impressed me so much as this. Man, why are you reading this? BUY IT!

      5 out of 5 stars ROCK & ROLL !!!.......1999-04-24

Anyone who has followed Carmine's career from the beginning to this time (1999) knows he rocks (and we have grandchildren). The fact that this music has been around for 5 years and I didn't know about it is criminal. I'm here to say if you (male/female/child/teen/adult/elders) rock, this is for you. I'm listening to it for the first time as I write this and I'm only half ways thru it. What does that tell you? I picked up both volumes on faith in Carmine and now I can't wait to play volume two. Only 2 words to summarize ...
