I dont plan on writing a review of all the CDs I own, but this one is one of my favorites.

I am a newly re-born house-head. The house beast has been asleep for over 15 years and then I came across Mr. Migs by way of some of the reviews I read here on Amazon. And I learned how much the music has grown and matured and become so sofisticated! My children even tell me they like "my music" LOL!

If you like Deep House, you must own this disc. This CD has great fidelity, it thump, thump, thumps while I am at work or while I am commuting in traffic or when I am cleaning.....just whenever!

Do yourself a favor and pick it up. You will not be sorry!

Sexy naked music.......2006-07-04

As a fan of club/dance/ambient music in general, I would always find an artist that I liked and look desperately for their music always afraid to venture into compliations in fear of having a few songs that I knew I wouldn't like.

This is certainly not the case with Nude Dimensions.

Miguel Migs (petalpusher who I liked anyways) has done wonders in this seemless transition that takes you high then brings it back down to cool and just leades you through a musical experience only a fan of such music could truely appreciate.

This is a great CD for anyone who is even a "moderate" house music fan. Great beats, sets the chill-out mood to a level to where you and you significant other will be comfortably naked. This is a must buy.

i bought the entire collection of Naked-Music, and i don't have regrets. It is sexy, fresh and more important it never gets old. I have been listening to this CD for 7 years now, and yesterday i coundn't resist no more and i bought it. I'm glad that i did. For those who said that it's boring, i feel sorry. Sometimes people don't understand what's unique and glamorous and what's not???, or just because they don't have the class to see it. So let me tell you this: you invite some friends, get some of your best cloth, make your favorite drink put some food on the coffee table and enjoy, nobody can stop you know, the Frank Sinatra on you is back, and wants to party a lot.

La complejidad de las piezas versionadas y arregladas por grandes figuras como Miguel Migs, hace que sea un disco de una calidad enorme. Sobre todo, por que salió en el año 2000 y aún hoy sigue siendo actual y pinchable en cualquier club de moda, tienda vanguardista o suite privada. Se mezclan el down tempo, funk, deep y chill house para recrear un paraíso femenino de sofisticación. Un espectáculo musical imaginario de una sala de fiesta de los 70's. Amateurs of sexy lounge look no further...when it's time to refresh those cocktails, wind down and pump up your night accompanying crew, pop this well balanced soother.Dream like moments should be shared listening to this life loving recording.

It introduces glamorous like vocals (Superficial) and from the first beat, gets your system ready for further moves.: Mig's remix of "Pure" unwinds the intro and prepares the mood, it's "delicate and dancy", "Chocolat" follows through with a stronger tempo and more funkiness, no vocals, just a three step tempo, "I need you in my life" gets clearly clubby and that old style bass line will defo get you pumping by then. "True love" evolves in a more musical note, it has a romantic feel but the beat it still very present, beat which intensifies again with "Keep it coming" (right words...), the vocals gets wavy, it has deep house feel to it. Just great crescendo. "The limit" would perfectly belong in a Kruder&Dorfmeister selection as it gets airy and the repetitive keyboards with distorting sounds has that trip lounge impression. "Big ben" has a jazzy/latin type of guitar in the back, "Losing control" gets savvy and sexy in its vocals, silky roughness of a female, "Sincere", "Got 2 B U" have the same tone again, clubby and sexy. "Could you love me" by now should have your party prancing like top models in every corner of your pad with its heavy and regular beat and a disco like bass. "The power" has a break beat and even funkier singing.

"Always" the finale by the talented Lisa Shaw will leave you saliving for more as it winds down soothingly in its coolness. Lisa just wraps you with her charm and her whispering warmth blends beautifully with the soft easiness of the ensemble.

OK, refresh those cocktails again...and get that music bouncin'.

Unlike any Herbie Hancock you've heard before.......2006-05-25

I am a jazz pianist and Herbie Hancock is a personal favorite of mine, and he is certainly one of the most versatile musicians to ever come out of jazz. His music and his playing is anywhere from ridiculously funky to absolutely beautiful to out there and crazy. This album, from 1963, most closely follows the third option. One has to wonder where this session came from; Hancock had found his first hit with "Watermelon Man" and spent his second session trying to duplicate that success, albeit with mixed results. This third session for Blue Note sounds nothing like the first two or almost anything in the Blue Note catalogue at that time. Stripped down to trio plus auxiliary percussion with Paul Chambers on bass, Willie Bobo on drums, and Osvaldo Martinez on auxiliary percussion, the group explores Latin grooves in a very subtle way that I can only label "concept-based post-bop." There aren't really any written tunes ("Mimosa" was a set of chord changes and the other tunes are completely improvised) so sketches are built more off of fragments and ideas born in the studio. For example, one tune features the bass playing a pedal tone for four bars followed by Hancock's improvisation in that key for sixteen bars. The music, while abstract, is oddly infectious through the rhythmic approach. In addition, Hancock was working with fairly "inside" musicians, especially Chambers, a first call bop musician. As a result, though free, this music is fairly conservative. Whether or not this is a good thing is a matter of taste; it is controlled and in what many would call "good taste" but at the same time, sometimes that control inhibits the musicians from reaching the full potential of the wild and crazy things that *might* have been born. Thus, this was never able to reach the classic status of the great "out" sessions but it was also kept from descending into meaningless noise that happens when free jazz finds itself uninspired. Instead, it walks a middle path, a relatively safe (though still more adventurous than either of his prior two releases) "free" session which is very interesting, sometimes catchy, but not really a classic. I find it difficult to call any of this session to mind because there aren't memorable melodic moments; it's more about texture. I still enjoy this quite a bit, though, and anyone interested in Herbie Hancock would do well to check out this album to see the germ of his playing with Miles, or perhaps a road he chose not to take.

Don't let the whole thing about "improvised music" fool you - this is not like an Ornette Coleman or Art Ensemble of Chicago disc. It's very structured and accessible - you wouldn't realize it was all improvised unless you read the liner notes.

It's a side of Herbie Hancock you probably haven't heard before. First, he's playing over Latin-tinged grooves. Second, it's rather minimalist, both in instrumentation and in the simplicity and repetitiveness of the melodies. That said, he really tears it up - this is one of my favorite Herbie records. Practically anyone who's into jazz in general or Herbie in particular would dig this side.

This may not be as deep as vol.1 & 2, but you can't go wrong with a naked music realease that features Lisa Shaw, Miguel Migs and Blue Six. Overall very enjoyable.

Great Follow UP!!.......2006-01-10

This is a great follow up to the perfection of vol II. Volume three is not as great thought but still worth buying. Due to the stand out of "rain" by Gaelle I am officially a Naked-Music fan. I hope they come out with volume 4.

No.3, the Evolution. A nod to the past, an eye to the future..........2005-07-20

Understandably, No. 3 was always going to have a huge task ahead of it, what with Mauricio Avilles showing the competition how it's REALLY done on Naked's 2nd installment. Described as 'a snapshot of the wide spectrum of dance being produced around the world today', that is exactly what it is and how it should be received. Although i'm sure alot of fans were expecting the Naked Crew to up the ante and completely re-invent the mix Cd after Vol.2, (I, for one, would never have bought another deep house mix Cd ever again if Naked had pulled it off, there'd be no need to!) comparisons are a little unfair on Vol.3. Where 2 was dripping in straight up sexiness, 3 is the chilled comedown for the most part. Although really GOOD, it makes u wanna exhale and go, "I wish u hadn't done that J.Mark Andrus", in places. These moments are what keeps it from being a GREAT mix. Ok, good is good, but great is better! and that's what we've come to expect from the Naked crew. Nevertheless, still a very strong offering, definately a must have in ur collection...

"Cosmic Tones for Mental Therapy" tops the list for all-time greatest album title (tied with "Weasels Ripped My Flesh"). The thought of these sonic vibrations from outer space reconfiguring your neural synapses is actually quite appealing. This stuff really does sound like it's from "out there"! The echo and reverb drenched and somewhat low-budget sound actually gives it extra charm.

The music on "Cosmic Tones" is very abstract. It sounds quite bizzare in 2007, so I can only image what it must have sounded to people in 1961 - not even Ornette Coleman or Cecil Taylor we doing stuff this far out in 1961.

"Art Forms of Dimensions Tomorrow" is a transitional work between straight jazz and the free space music of "Cosmic Tones". It's certainly enjoyable music, but for me it's less interesting.

I was lucky to see Sun Ra Live in 1988 and 1990, and actually had a few words with him in 1990. Despite being wheelchair-ridden he still had tremendous presence and a projected a very joyful vibe. This joyfulness comes across in all of his music, which is one of the things that most appeals to me.

This album is as good a place to start as any, if you are interested in exploring Sun Ra's universe.

Cosmic Tones For Mental Therapy and Art Forms Of Dimensions Tomorrow by Sun Ra and his Myth Science Arkestra is quite a formidable title by any measure - and yet - when you actually listen to this astonishing piece of work you will find yourself thoroughly convinced - indeed - it is the only possible name for it.

They say that for an alcoholic, one drink is too many and one thousand aren't enough. I have discovered the same to be true of Sun Ra CDs, which seem to be breeding on my wall. Hearing one is too much because once you've listened it's too late to pretend you haven't heard what you've heard. One thousand aren't enough because each is different, the product of a man who explored constantly, driven by an inspired and fearless abandon.

Sun Ra CDs seem to break down into two categories, the really sharp old school jazz CDs and the intergalactic travel CDs. While I have praised Heliocentric Worlds Volume 1 in the past, I now think this is the indispensable Sun Ra CD - the one you simply MUST own. More than any other I've heard it bridges the gap between the two worlds of Sun Ra, in fact, listening to this CD it's difficult to tell which world you're in. At times it might be Morocco, other times it might be a spaceship rounding Venus, then again, some moments feel like a Cuban nightclub in the 1950's.

Maybe that's the real poetry of Sun Ra, you can never be really sure of anything. I may be back soon to revise my opinion again, after probing deeper into the enchanted world of Sun Ra. I wouldn't be at all surprised if I were again surprised.

Not his best.......2006-01-24

This CD is really for the completest among avid fans of Sun Ra. If that describes you, then this release is a treat: two of Sun Ra's early albums that were not easy to come by on vinyl even back then, unless you lived in New York City.

The music, however, is of questionable quality, even when considered within the proper context of genre and period. Don't get me wrong: I'm all for the avant garde, but these recordings grated even on my nerves and I'm no stranger to dissonance. My favorite orchestral composers are Penderecki and Carl Stalling, some of my favorite jazz records are by Ornette Coleman, I own several CDs by the likes of Captain Beefheart and Xenakis, my favorite rock record is by Mr. Bungle, I've enjoyed concerts by Rene Lussier and Andre Duchesne...but this purchase was a disappointment to me, regardless of price.

The dissonance in this recording was just not at all musical to my ears. I'm not exactly sure what Sun Ra intended with these pieces but they had no emotional impact on me, nor did they even have any kind of rhythmic or hypnotic effect say like `Fire' by the Third Ear Band from their elements album. The interest here is purely intellectual and not worth repeated listening, in my opinion.

I agree that Sun Ra was a great musician and composer who made an important contribution to the avant guard in general, but these particular recordings are not among his finest achievements.

nothing else like it.......2005-12-29

free jazz with form...or something like that. The composer in question is, Sun Ra, one of the most forward looking musical talents of the 20th century. This is one of his first truly 'out there' albums. In the 50's he was an innovator in a sort of big band style that incorporated some of the most strange and beautiful compositions with truly futuristic solos from the likes of John Gilmore (who pioneered the 'sheets of sound' style that John Coltrane would become famous for). 'Cosmic Tones/Art Forms' is something else completely. As other reviewers have said - you cannot define it. It is free - yet so different from what artists like Ornette Coleman were doing at the time. It has an organic almost folk like quality - it sounds almost ancient. It is closer to classical chamber music than to most jazz records. You can't even really compare it to Mingus - this is something else... Just listen and meditate on this one - so strange and beautiful.

Don't start here to get acquainted with Sun Ra.......2005-08-12

This is great Sun Ra, but by all means don't start here. Its crazy, surreal, and inaccesible, more so than "Space Is the Place" or "Easy Listening for Intergalatic Travel". However, if you are familiar with Sun Ra, but considor yourself a casual fan than this is an album to buy. It will help you delve into the world of the greatest Jazz artist who ever lived. Back in 8th grade I took a general music class, which was all about learning the history of jazz to attempt to make all the kid's taste in music better (it, for the most part, alienated them ever further). One of the albums our teacher played was this one, and the reaction of the class was pretty much the same. "Is this music?" As my tastes have matured, I grew to appreciate avant-garde music, the deconstruction and often times lack of a central rhythm. The music here isn't catchy, and it may appear to many as unlistenable. However, if you have a taste for weird and unusual music, you will fall in love with this album. This is more for fans of The Shaggs and Captain Beefheart than it is for fans of Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. Don't get the impression that Sun Ra and his band is merely jamming here however - its all part of a great artistic vision.

this album would have to be my third favorite dimmu album. its catchy and heavy. the lyrics and art work are superb. the keyboards take new creative heights on this album. my only beef is the production quality. its actually worse than EDT, which is weird because the quality usually gets better not worse. other than that, its a really good album.

Good old school Dimmu.......2007-03-28

This is actually my first purchase of an older Dimmu Borgir cd. This work didn't dissapoint me at all. First of all it was the first cd to have Vortex's vocals, which I'm a big fan of his vocals. Shagrath sounds very powerful as always. Tjodalv drumming sounds good. The guitar are very fast and strong. Nothing bad about the album.

Right Up There With Puritanical........2007-02-18

If I had to name the best Dimmu Borgir with keyboards, I'd have to say it's a tie between this and PEM. The keyboard parts fit in the songs better on Puritanical, but the songs on this one are really great. They didn't use too many clean vocals on this one either. All the tracks on this are as chilling sounding as Emperor's IX Equalibrium, and that's a great symphonic metal album. Don't pass this one up.

I feel bad I waited so long to buy this, this album is great. best song in my opinion : the blazing monolights of defiance.
Overall, This is a great place to start with Dimmu Borgir, it doesn't jade you with the ultra-clean production of the new stuff and it still has a semi-blackmetal feel to it, check it out.

Much like Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, just more keyboards and some clean vocals here and there..........2006-07-16

This is a very underrated album, coming off their best "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant", this always happens to bands, once they release their best album, the album that follows it usually gets underrated, and overlooked, it happened to Morbid Angel with Domination, it happened to Exodus with Pleasures of the Flesh, and so on, so this is more keyboard driven than ETD was, but it's the same direction, the production is top notch like ETD, so no worries there.

"Reptile" Is an excellent opener, one of the best on the album, this song has alot of keys, and some clean vocal parts, but it all fits in nicely, and is it's nice and heavy also.

"Behind The Curtains of Night - Phantasmagoria" Is just as strong as Reptile, featuring heavy riffs, a nice heavy groove, and the keys are great, and of course Shagraths vocals are killer.

"Dreamside Dominions" This reminds me alot of ETD, it's the most comparable, not much to say about it, just a killer song.

"United in Unhallowed Grace" Is heavy as hell, and nice keys again, very nicely done.

"The Promised Future Aeons" Starts with a symphonic sound, and works it's way into the song, another great song.

"The Blazing Monoliths of Defiance" Starts with heavy riffs, and then the guitars and drums and vocals come in, with the keys, very nicely done also.

"The Insight and the Catharsis" Not much to say, has some nice clean vocal parts as well, and nice keys, not much else to say about it, just another killer song.

The last 2 are killer also, theres just nothing much different about them from the rest of the songs to explain them, this album is very underrated, if you liked ETD, and don't mind a FEW clean vocal parts, and more keyboards, then check this out.

Buy it now! You won't regret it. It has two of my favorite Tomita
renderings: "Bolero" with it's Ouroboros looping (after the thematic denouement, "Bolero" sounds as if a track tape snapped in two, to then speed wildly out of control, and "mistakenly" recorded over the loping, infernal, electric inchworm rhythm(!)) and "Girl With the Flaxen Hair". If you love recorded music and in particular digitally reprocessed renderings, you cannot go wrong with this great product!

Reprises some hard-to-find tracks.......2001-06-21

Tomita produced a CD in the early 80's titled Dawn Patrol or Canon of the Three Stars, depending on which release; out of print and rare. The music was produced by sampling from radio telescopes and then transforming the samples--real star music. Several of the tracks on this CD are from that body of work, and they are among Tomita's best.

A Well-Done Compilation.......2000-05-17

This anthology, which tries to sum up Isao Tomita's recordings for the Red Seal Label, actually managed to give a fairly complete panorama of his work. Tomita can be thought of as the precursor of ambient music - but unlike people who think that ambient is a sustained 23 minute sine wave, here music has DIRECTION. Granted, most of the stuff is synthesized renditions of "impressionistic" classical works, but the imaginative use Isao makes of his array of synths (most of this stuff was recorded in the early 70's, so we're talking about modular synths mainly - long before computer programming was available). The sonic pallete fits perfectly, and he makes good use of repetitive arpeggiator sequences to get a pulse going - and then he works his magic, specially in the arranging department. A truly unique - and sadly underestimated - artist.

The new Dimension.......2006-04-24

Aussie band Wolfmother are on the rise right now, with their retro hard-rock blend that is equal parts Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. And their "Dimension" EP is a good warmup for the soon-to-be-released-domestically debut, with two extra songs and a pair of live videos.

It opens with an earsplitting yell, and if you're not expecting it, it's sure to make you sit up and listen. It's followed by a crunchy, murky mass of hard rock with an otherworldly edge. After getting lost in the desert, "I had to write something down/And I found myself alone, and then I let go of everything/Into another DI-MEN-SION!" Andrew Stockdale hollers.

It's followed by "Mind's Eye," a steady, panoramic rock number with moments of quiet, as if the band has just barely managed to rein in their music. After that, we get a couple of songs not on their forthcoming album: the fuzzy, bouncy bass-rocker "Love Train," and the spacey, proggy "The Earth's Rotation Around the Sun." Well, with a name like that, it either has to be spacey and proggy, or by the Flaming Lips.

As an added bonus, the EP contains two live performance videos. One is a shakycam of the guys performing "Dimension," which flickers between stark black-and-white and a murky color. Then there is the performance of "Mind's Eye" at the Devil's Punchbowl. As the guys perform, we see clips of them driving up and exploring the desert.

Let's get this over with -- yes, Wolfmother has a lot of bands influencing them, including Sabbath, Zeppelin, and a few other older hard-rock bands. But Wolfmother has the ballsy attitude to carry it off. They don't just have influences, they proudly wear them on their shirts.

Andrew Stockdale's vocals seem more in key with the music in this EP, as compared to Wolfmother's self-titled EP. His shivery, rip-roar vocals rise above even the loudest riffs. And the riffs do get loud -- they're dirty, crunchy, and wonderfully powerful. The last song just sort of meanders and peters out, and it doesn't work very well. But those other three songs -- and the videos -- are enough to get your pulse racing.

Wolfmother show even more of their promise in the "Dimension" EP, and hints at more great things in their forthcoming debut. Rough and raw.

Howl from Down Under.......2006-02-18

I just saw these guys play in Chicago, and they are amazing live. Pure power, pure heavy 70s, great performance chops. Andrew Stockdale's voice weds Jack White's to Robert Plant's to Ozzy's, creating a distinctive sound that rises about the thermonuclear thunder of their music. Chris Ross does double-duty on bass and keyboards (the keyboards are organ-like, making me think of Deep Purple).

Some people will rip on them for brazenly wearing their influences on their shirtsleeves, but they're wrong to do so; it's a labor of love, not opportunistic, unimaginative imitation. They take their influences and blend and reforge them into something that thoroughly rocks (I hear chunks of Sabbath riffola, Zeppelin mysticism and ballsy bravado, the Who's stagecraft, Cream's intricate power, and Deep Purple's relentless drive -- and all with a sense of foot-stomping fun that makes me think of Slade, like a cherry on top).

I have the enhanced EP, which includes videos for "Dimension" and "Mind's Eye". The music-only part is a little over 15 minutes.

"Dimension" starts things out nicely: a pure, bluesy rocker that invokes Blue Cheer with a great big Sabbathy downtuned guitar howl to masterful effect. "Mind's Eye" is a classic retro ballad that would have been comfortable in 1973, channeling Zep and hands holding lighters aloft before the song gallops up to speed about midway through and settles into a killer riff. "Love Train" funks things up considerably, and is playful, with some masterful playing on it, where Stockdale and Myles Heskett (drums) play back and forth, while Ross kicks ass with his bass. "The Earth's Rotation Around the Sun" feels Kyussian to me, especially when it kicks into a stuttering groove that makes you feel the heat of the Sun.

I give it 4 stars instead of 5 only because I would have liked another track or two on it. I wanted MORE! This EP makes good driving music, and the low end sound will play well on a good stereo.

Support this band; see them live. If you think that Rock is dead, check them out -- Wolfmother knows what they're doing. Rock is dead, long live Rock!

Learning from the masters as opposed to stealing from them..........2006-01-31

I havn't been this excited about a new band in a while!!! This E.P. features two tracks from the forthcoming album (which was released in their homeland of Australia last year-I can't wait til May so I bought the import!) and 2 non-album tracks. "Mind's Eye" is one of the best songs I have ever heard-a brilliant mix of vintage Sabbath and Deep Purple, with production that gives it the warm vintage 70's feel, nice and fuzzy. Vocals remind me of Jack White mixed with Cedric Bixler, this guy just totally goes for it. Cool packaging and enhanced videos for album tracks Dimension and Mind's Eye to boot, all fans of the rock should not miss this one. I could comfortably state that this band would fit nicely on a record shelf with the likes of Sabbath, The Doors, Queens of the Stone Age and of course, more than a little Uriah Heep. This band has made the old sound new again...stunning.

Pure instrumental bliss.......2005-12-17

My goodness, what an album! Glenn Snelwar (who I am previously familiar with only through his contributions to Sean Malone's Gordian Knot) has put together the ideal trio here for bringing to life his compositions, in bassist Michael Manring (Attention Deficit, Sadhappy, etc.) and drummer Mark Zonder (Fates Warning). The music is very much in the vein of the Gordian Knot projects: all instrumental, heavily composed, ethereal and moody, with an emphasis on atmosphere over pyrotechnics. Make no mistake, the musicianship is peerless, but this is not an exercise in musicianship over and above composition, as some supergroups sometimes seem to be (some have criticized the Liquid Tension Experiment projects for this, for example).

This project is a particularly nice showcase for Manring's stunning fretless bass work. The man can bring forth sounds from his Zon Hyperbass that will give you chills.

I really cannot recommend this album highly enough for anyone who is a fan of excellent compositions and top-notch musicianship. What a treat.

A fantastic CD for all to enjoy.......2005-12-13

I agree with the previous posting -- although I am disappointed to know I am not the only one with the restraining order. Mark's work on this CD is every bit as good as the Zimmerman project Under_Radio. And if you liked Chromakey then pick this one up. Mark has come a long way since the Ken Bomber album or the Thunderchild days (with all due respect to all Warlord fans). Can't wait for the TEMPLEWITHIN release.

Torn Between Genres.......2005-08-15

A great album... it flows/rocks/moves/electrifies... from start to finish. The only negative comment is that the last song could have ended sooner. My opinion is slightly biased because I think Zonder is a drum god. I think this is his best work outside of Fates Warning (don't worry Mark, I know the restrictions of the restraining order).

Top-Notch Grooves.......2005-08-14

These guys are awesome. Although it reminds me in some ways of the Gordian Knot music, it lends it's own unique spin on high-tech futuristic instrumental fusion music. It is melodic too. The guitarist even sounds at times like Robert Fripp or David Torn. Nice ideas that are a pleasure to hear. I am also a long-time fan of Micheal Manring and his bass playing adds alot to this music. The biggest surprise was definately to see Fates Warning drummer Mark Zonder playing this stuff. I love Fates Warning's music too, but it definately leans more towards Prog-Metal type stuff. So to see him venturing out into this style of music was very interesting. Although I guess it is not all that surprising since guitarist Jim Matheos of Fates Warning has played not only on the Gordian Knot CDs, but also with OSI as well. All these guys just keep putting out the most advanced, most interesting music on the planet. I absolutely love it and cannot get enough of it.

A recipe for good instrumental prog........2005-06-03

This album features Glenn Snelwar who did guitar work with Gordian Knot and Mark Zonder who was the drummer for Fates Warning. How would I describe it? Take 1 cup of Gordian Knot, 1/4 cup mellow Dream Theater, 2 tablespoons of Fates Warning, 1 teaspoon of Spiral Architect, and blend with Mark Zonder's "Pleasant Shade of Grey" drumming. What do you get. A really cool instrumental prog. rock album.
