FOUR19 WILL BLOW YOU AWAY! .......2005-04-07
Malice In Wonderland is a perfect example of Four19's major talent and creative range. If you ever get the chance to catch them live, you will not be disappointed - FOUR19 WILL BLOW YOU AWAY!
Heard "Star" on a WB show tonight.......2004-12-23
This band and this Malice record is a great find. I hope Four19 gets to be a huge band because their music rocks and has great grooves. I hate bands that make records that all sound like the same song all the way through, and this band knows how to avoid that trap while still sounding connected from one track to the next. My favorites are definitely "Star" and "Cherry Pie." B-Boy's great too...this and "Batter Up" will be my favorites in the morning when I'm rocking out on my long drive. Looking forward to more Four19, music's tight, lead singer's amazing, I know they have to be good live from what I'm hearing here. Definite buy especially you like bands that rock and groove like Incubus, No Doubt, I dig some hip hop like BEP, heavier rock like SOAD, whatever's good.

Customer Reviews:
Not Deep, just good.......2006-10-14
This is really not anything like Deep Purple. I mean other than Jon Lord's organ sound and Ian Paice drumming, which really is not that noticable as a Deep Purple sound, this is nothing like Deep Purple.
Ashton has a great voice for that blues sound, and he does a great job on the album. They never went far, well because, it was not going to make all the Deep Purple fans happy, but it is good music and would appeal more to diverse listenners than hard rockers. I think it went well in Europe, from what I read on the internet, but the cost of moving all those musicians to get the live sound must of been to expensive to continue the tour.
Thus this is rare stuff and there is a live version that you can get out their on Amazon, with bonus tracks. Ashton died at an early age, so this makes it even more rare. If you read about Ashton out there on the internet, you will find some interesting stuff that makes this album all the more sweet to have.
I love this album.......2006-01-20
I purchased this because I am a Deep Purple fan, have listened to it for 20+ years now, and just recently rediscovered it. Not hard rock, but excellent music with lots of energy. Tony Ashton is not a singer that will wow you, but his voice fits the music.
Ian Paice does an unusually good job on the album - I can sense he is reenergized and having fun after the Purple debacle with Tommy Bolin. Same for Jon Lord. I don't know who the bass player is, but he plays with energy and authority and also does a great job.
Highly Recommended!
Great Album.......2004-06-28
This is an album for everyone, it is not hard rock, but it is very good. The vocals are very good, the previous reviewer must have listened to it once. Listen to this album and make your own decision. I will guarantee that after a few times it will become one of your favorite albums. Top notch musicianship !
Lord and Paice gamble ..........2003-03-14
...and lose. They wanted something completely different from Deep Purple, but the fans were disappointed. PAL was a mixture of blues, rock, big band jazz and funk and the result may be quite original, but the problem was that they didn't have a good singer. Tony Ashton's voice makes me think of Uli Jon Roth's - so not spectacular at all - unless used for the Muppet Show, haha ! Guitarist Bernie Marsden's voice is good for backing up, as has been proved in Whitesnake, but he's no frontman either. The music's of a fairly high level, but for Purple fans who used to have it all PAL is just not good enough. The singer WAS the major problem with PAL, because we all know what a great come-back Lord and Paice were to make when they returned to work with Coverdale ... The songs of their lost second album are unfinished and the sound is of poor quality. This is an album for collectors only.
