2 out of 5 stars Get "All's Well That Ends Well" instead.......2005-12-01

This is a poorly recorded CD from the 1976 album. It is right about 40 minutes long. It has also been sold as double CD along with the 1971 release, "Do You Like It Here, Are You Settling In?" at a cheaper price than the single CD.

The recording sounds like it was taken off an LP with scratchy noises and pops at various points (not just the first track). But, it also has a flutter in parts that sound like it was taken from a tape.

The besides the scraches and wow and flutter, the sound quality is fair to poor. It is very flat. It is one of the worst CD's from a studio recording I have heard. (I have heard live albums that are much worse, but this is the worst studio CD I have heard).

Besides the sound, this is an OK album. Nothing great, but some good songs on it. Ride and the View and Born With a Future are very good basic rockers. Welsch Connection sounds like something Steely Dan would do. There is a nice keyboard interlude at the end of Welsch Connection.

The rest of the songs are soft and not very good. Something Is Happening sounds something like Camel would do back in the days when they were trying to Copy Alan Parsons.

The best songs on this album are also on the live CD, All's Well That Ends Well. The versions of the live ablum are not much different than what is on this studio album. But, the live album has much better sound quality. It is so good, it is difficult to tell at times that it was recorded live.

So, I would suggest getting All's Well That Ends Well, instead of getting Welsh Connection. You get the 3 good songs from Welsh Connection, plus some other good songs and much better sound quality.

It is hard to believe someone would give this 4 or 5 stars. Especially when someone says that half the songs on the CD are not very good.

5 out of 5 stars Man gets spacey.......2004-10-15

This album is not as jammy as some of Man's earlier stuff, the songs are shorter and tightly written. The band still branches out w/Deke and Mickey piercing the Welsh mist w/some tasty riffs on the title track, amongst other classics like The Ride and The View...this one creates an almost mystical vibe, deep from the zones of the 70s rock scene.

4 out of 5 stars Man's "Welsh Connection" is worth the wait.......2004-08-21

MAN: A musical IQ test that most listener's fail, or an uneven experiment in progressive rock? Like most of Man's albums,
"Welsh Connection" is both. Yes, this release has a few stratches on the opening of the first track, but it is still well worth a $20 to explore the boldest experiment in pop music from (my opinion) Man's high water mark in the mid 1970's.

High Points of the album:
(1)- The ultimate stoned-out stunning cool of "The Ride and The View" that is mid-way from the Dead's "Truckin" to Earring's "Radar Love". Wow, only Man could create this. VERY COOL.
(3)- The playful, inventive synth organ "Love Can Find a Way", a blend of City Boy and 10cc. VERY SILLY.
(4)- The progressive wanderings of "The Welsh Connection", a sort of a Yes meets Brian Eno genetic experiment. VERY HIP.
(6)- The temporal transmorgafication of a hyper bubble-gum song into a tender tune of regret in "Car Toon" as an early Yello song might do. VERY MELANCHOLY, BABY.

Low Points of the album:
(2)- "Out of your head" - Like Jefferson Airplane doing a pain reliever commercial that just creates more pain.
(5)- "Somthing is Happening" - Like The Partridge Family doing a Public Service Announcement. Truly awful, in a 1970's made for TV movie kind of way.
(7)- "Born with a Future" - Like Bob Seger trying to out sing Sammy Hagar, when neither can sing. Brutally shocking senseless violence, just as the liner notes promised.

If you banish the low points and focus only on the high points, you will enjoy the album much much more, but will probably also miss out on a real understanding of one of music's most enigmatic bands - MAN. Enjoy...

1 out of 5 stars "Specially Mastered"? BULLSH*T!!!!.......2003-09-27

I guess Amazon.com doesn't check out every recording that they sell, or they probably would not have offered this $16.98 piece-of-crap for sale. THIS CD WAS RECORDED FROM A RECORD! A VERY SCRATCHY Record that was well worn. For Cripes Skakes, I have a fair to good copy of this album in my vinyl collection. If I had wanted it on CD, I could have simply recorded it and burned myself a copy of it. It would sound BETTER than this, and I would have saved myself $16.98 This is why people are downloading music. Because the record companies are pushing this kind of CRAP on us. What a g-dam lie! "Specially Mastered"! the copy says. IT IS A LIE!. So, skip this one if you already have the vinyl. If you don't, then buy it, that is, if you care to hear the worst recording quality release of this that ever was offered for sale. It rates ONE star, becuse they won't let me rate it any lower. My real rationg would be -100 stars.
