Punk Meets Venom .......2005-06-16
Hallows Eve are often overlooked and they were one of the more interesting metal bands to emerge in the early-mid 80's. Not really consisdered thrash in the truest sense they were more equal parts Venom(Death Metal) and Hardcore Punk probably drawing from some of the anarchist bands of the time (Ie-Crucifix). Remember this came out in 85 and very few bands other than Venom, Celtic Frost and the thrash faction of punk (ie: DRI)were doing anything this extreme. Highly recommended.
Their very best!.......1999-06-20
Don't let the goofy cover fool you. This is definitely Hallow's Eve's best album, and one of the best I've ever heard. Their succesors were very good but they fall on more common metal grounds. The wide variety of the songs, altough the CD barely hits the half hour, it's incredible. You can play this album over and over and never get bored by it. Crunching songs like the opening 'Plunging to Megadeath' with a growling Stacy Anderson, who then, at the middle of the song, transforms his voice into an almost operatic style, the speed of 'The Outer Limits' showing again the vocal range of Anderson. Then comes two linked songs 'Horrorshow' and'The Mansion', incredible. The hyperfast 'There Are No Rules'. The short instrumental 'Valley Of The Dolls" serves as an intro to one of the best songs of the CD, 'Metal Merchants' you just won't be able to get it off your head. For the gran finale, the best song of the CD, the 8+ minute 'Hallow's Eve', you have to listen to believe it. So, in fewer words, BUY THIS!!! you won't regret it.
strange 1980s artifact.......1999-03-21
Hallow's Eve were a Hollywood Boulevard version of thrash metal--lots of flash and hair. Sort of the Guns 'n Roses of thrash. However, their lyrics were also slightly above par on the IQ meter. This rockin', surprisingly multifaceted album ranges from nuclear dread (the number-one concern of so many anxious punk and metal songs)anthems ("Plunging to Megadeath") to thrash mania ("Outer Limits") to silly Alice Cooper set pieces ("Hallow's Eve"). And that cover art--a portrait of an executioner that looks fresh off somebody's shop class notebook. Like so many albums that aren't great, its value lies in giving you a true flavor for the scene and its time.--J. Ruch

Customer Reviews:
ugh..........2003-09-16
all I can say is : RETIRE.
Although it fares well in the beginning, it then becomes very old. I give them 1 star for effort.
Great modern horror punk.......2003-05-27
45 Grave were a great L.A.-area death rock band fronted by Dinah Cancer. With punk roots stretching into the 1970's, 45 Grave were copied by many but equaled by none. Here, Cancer returns to her roots and fronts a new outift that matches 45 Grave's intensity, and actually even suprasses 45 Grave's original morbid imagery. Although another reviewer said this was "unoriginal and cheesy," this isn't nu-metal, it isn't Cradle of Filth-style [stuff], it isn't alt-rock, and it isn't pop-punk. In fact, you will actually find very, very few bands around today that wear their punk roots as proudly as this bunch do, ye who also play modern death rock. Highly recommended.
lousy.......2002-03-11
Unoriginal and cheesy! I regret buying this CD, I wish I could get my money back.
Penis Flytrap - Good clean fun!!!.......2002-02-22
Being a huge fan of 45 Grave, I just had to get this! (because of Dinah Cancer)I was not disappointed at all. The only thing though is I wish this disk had more songs/time. Hope to see these fine folks come to my town to play. You can tell these kids grew up watching cheesy horror movies, as did I so I can relate and appreciate the tongue in cheek nature of this kind of music.
Penis Flytrap....that sounds dirty.......2001-07-19
I just bought this CD off of amazon and have been listening to it in my car for the past two days. While they are no Misfits and not really as edgy as Dinah's first band 45 Grave I would still consider them a four star band. Musically speaking they aren't very innovative and I can see how Dinah's discordant vocals might not be everyones bag. But then if this kind of music wasn't your thing I really doubt you'd even be faced with the dilemma of buying a CD by a band under the dubious moniker of "Penis Flytrap" anyway.
I guess people are calling this kind of music Horror Metal or Death Rock now. Jeez five years ago these guys would have just gone under the label of punk. Their sound is much more Christian Death than Samhain.
Anyhow, they have enough campy Creature Feature references to keep a pop culture fiend such as myself satiated and whenever I listen to them I feel like I'm in the eighth grade watching Faces of Death at my friend J's house all over again. Good times, good times.
