    Great chance to hear Eddie Vinson backed by a big band made up of ex-Basie men. They swing hard too. Cleanhead is in fine voice(wasn't he always?) on some of his old blues favorites and some jazz songs. His "ain't necessarily so" is wonderful. A must have for any fan of R&B and swing blues.

    Great music; Vinson is a highly expresive blues, jazz and R/B singer; at times powerful as a blues shouter, at times imaginative as good old Satchmo.
    It is only pity performances are not a bit longer so that the musicians could stretch a bit more (and there are some really fine musicians here, mostly but not exclusively of Basie background); the short licks and obligattos we get from Joe Newman, Frank Foster, Paul Quinichette and others make me wish for more...

    Vinson's interpretations of "Ain't necessarily so" and "Caledonia" are particularly remarkable (that's why I feel free to mention Satch in this context)...

    It is particularly interesting how Vinson's voice trembles and becomes a sort of falsetto in the middle of any "middle register" line - no music teacher would advise it but with Cleanhead Vinson it works just fine.

    The Motherlode of Jump Blues. I know Louis Jordan pioneered the sound, but he, along with many others, pales in comparison to Cleanhead. If this stuff doesn't make you want to shout and shake your money maker, then Jack, you dead! I've got tons of recordings of the masters of swinging blues, but Cleanhead always comes out on top. I definitely agree with the reviewer who would rather hear one note from Cleanhead's alto than anything, or everything, of Charlie Parker's stuff. Not only a tremendous player, but, IMHO, the greatest Jump/Swing singer. His signature high-pitched squeal at the end of vocal lines imitates the honking "R & B" sax sound - fantastic! Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I wish Cleanhead's "Dream" of sittin' in the President's rockin' chair were true. Would be a vast improvement! Ole' Kidney Stew is definitely more than fine!

    Listen to "Sweet Loving Baby", and "Trouble in Mind." That's Cleanhead playing sax and singing. I've listened to a lot of stuff ; much of which I was supposed to like because it was deep jazz, out there. Vinson defied classification. This CD captures Cleanhead at his genre-defying, repeated listening-never cloying, finest. His voice is so bluesy and, heresy of all heresies, I'd rather here one bleep out of Vinson's sax then all of Charlie Parker's ouvre. This is wonderful bluesy, jazzy, swinging,joyous, down-home-sophisticated, sad music.

      Yes, if you are not a collector then buy the CD's seperately. But I have loved Iron Maiden since the early 80's when I was young and I have all their CD's. But for a collector, this is a work of art... It is worth every penny... Something like this comes around only once in a while and I will listen to all my regular CD's still and keep this for my Music/Art Collection. And of course it's Iron Maiden, true artists so 5 stars in my book... Money comes and goes, but true art and collecting come seldom... If you can find it, Buy it!!!

      Eddie's Head (1998.) An Iron Maiden collection, combining their albums up to the time of the set's release.

      (I don't normally go for short reviews, but there's not much that needs to be said here.)

      Anyone knows that Iron Maiden is one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time, and that just about every one of their albums is a must-own. Unfortunately, the Eddie's Head box set is a total rip-off. For less than half the price of what some people charge for this set, you could obtain these albums separately. Is it really worth paying double the value of the albums for the sake of a carrying case to put them in? I think not. Just buy them separately. You'll save yourself a lot of money in the long run. Five stars for the music this collection represents. Considerably less for the ridiculosly-high price.

      This is probably the best box set out there. If your an Iron Maiden fan or a heavy metal fan you need this. Not only do you get all eight of Iron Maiden's classic albums but you also get three 2 disc live albums. Another great thing about these CD's is they are all enhanced to play on pc's and Macintosh. Full of videos pictures and all kinds of other goodies. And to top it off you get all these cds in Iron Maiden's famous mascots head!

      This box set is awesome if you look at what it has. It has Enhanced CDs of Iron Maiden (self-titled) through The X-Factor (unfortunately, The X Factor is not an Enhanced CD)! But why only three stars? Because this may be a great item for any Maiden fan, however it is simply way too overpriced. If you already have the CDs, it is not worth it. Not only that, but you can purchase the collection of CDs included in this package for less than the price tag it holds. The reason it costs more is because of Eddie's head (where the CDs are held), which has with eyes that light up. Although this is a cool idea, the plastic head is not worth an extra $. So, if you're a true Iron Maiden fan, this might be a good buy for you, especially if you don't have the CDs included in this package. But, if not, you might want to think twice before spending this much money.

          This is what Iron Maiden is all about. This has to be the greatest album they have put out to date. With Paul and Bruce more or less together it don't get any better than this. This is a MUST for any head banging Iron Maiden Fan.

          This is an incredible "de luxe" release of the Iron Maiden stuff. All the CD's are enhanced and the Head looks amazing. If you're a die-hard fan, buy it!

          The remasterd cds bring out the amazing muscic Maiden has created over the years. I would have like to have seen the b-sides included, but have them from the '95 re-releases. This is a perfect warm up for the upcoming summer tour. The world is ready to UP THE IRONS in '99!

          I was positively impressed last night when I got my "Eddie's Head". It's not that "Limited Edition" since 25,000 copies were made, but nonetheless its a great buy for the uninitiated or the hardcore fan. The CDs sound great, the booklets are HUGE and very nicely re-done. The CD-Rom parts were done in a very professional way and are quite enjoyable. The head itself could have been made of a better quality plastic, and more carefully painted, but it's OK.
