Editorial Reviews
James Bickers, Sea Of Tranquility, 1997
Their work instantly takes its place alongside such genre-gods as Dream Theater, Gentle Giant and Genesis.
Product Description
With 'Wounded', the second album from Enchant, the band has put together a collection of songs that are focused on more personal issues than their previous release A Blueprint Of The World. Based out of the San Francisco area, Enchant has made a name for themselves with fans of bands such as Marillion, Rush and Dream Theater. Their dense sounding instrumental tracks combined with their melodic lead vocals makes for challenging yet accessible music.

Customer Reviews:
The classic Maynard album.......2007-05-16
As this album influenced my jazz tastes through junior high and high school, and into college, I spent countless hours listening to these tunes. Through 30-plus years, I've worn out three of the original albums and at least six tapes before this CD was released. To sit with headphones on and listen to the live atmosphere from Jimmy's takes me to the days of live concerts where high school and collegiate jazzers would sit in awe of the Master's stratospheric work, and the interaction of the musicians. All of the charts are outstanding, including the classic McArthur Park. Nice and Juicy is a fun chart, the Fox Hunt just kicks and Got the Spirit is the perfect closing for a great set.
Perhaps the best words for this album were uttered by Maynard himself as the band played "Blue Birdland" at the conclusion of the album: "I hope we get one hell of an album out of this."
You surely did, Mr. Ferguson, you surely did.
Maynard Ferguson - Live at Jimmy's.......2007-05-12
This is Maynard's greatest live album and possibly his best album period.
Pilates4me.......2007-04-13
This is such an incredible cd. I feel it's one of his best. I've been waiting for a long time for it to be put on cd and so happy that it finally has been. Worth every penny! I listened to the record(aging myself!) growing up and could listen to this everyday for the rest of my life! Got the Spirit is a song that inspired me to play the sax! There's none better than it!
Finally!.......2007-04-11
My records (yeah, remember those?) were stored for a couple of decades, so I was thrilled to unpack them 2 years ago. The first ones out of the box were MF Horn 4&5. It was a fantastic experience and brought tears to my eyes, even through the crackles, pops and distortion caused by what was probably thousands of playings.
Going through my collection, I found this set was THE most worn out of ALL the MF recordings I had (Chameleon, MF2, etc) which says alot about the quality of the recording, the music selection and my preference for live vs studio.
I was really excited to learn this was coming out on CD so I could finally hear a clean version. After waiting an extra couple of weeks beyond the initial promised shipping date, then another 2 weeks of being away from home, I finally got my hands on it yesterday. Whoohooo! It played all day yesterday in my office and on the way home from work.
I agree wholeheartedly with the other reviews, that this is a recording for the ages and would even suggest that, from a layman's point of view, if you have room for 1 MF album, this is the one. He gives Teo Macera credit for recording it ON THE STREET IN A MOBILE VAN, for cryin' out loud, so the quality of the sound is even more amazing. This was no over-miked, multi-take recording with the applause superimposed, but a "you are there" snapshot of a master at work with one of the tightest and most talented bands he ever had backing him up.
I was fortunate to go to the tribute concert held after his death last year in St Louis where alumni from his band rotated through (soon to be on DVD- don't miss that one!). Many of the musicians on this album were there and THAT will be one I watch for.
In life, all we ultimately leave behind is our legacy and he left one of love, teaching and incredible but humble talent.
RIP Maynard, they broke the mold after they made you.
At last, this epic perfomance is on CD........2007-04-09
I wholeheartily concur with the other reviewers. This is Maynard Ferguson and his band at their best. After listening to the CD, I'm even more impressed with the recording quality of this live album. It is a better than most of the live jazz recordings made today -- more than thirty years
later.
I've had the original record since it came out when I was in high school.
Maynard and his band were a huge influence on my friends and me. Several
of my classmates went on to be professional horn players. For me, Maynard
helped spark a lifelong appreciation of jazz and particulary big bands.
Sidenote: What became of Bruce Johnston? I think his bari solos on this
recording are some of my favorites of all time.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful!!!.......2007-05-14
I bought this for my husband but fell in love with it myself. I had never heard of it but now consider Edvard Grieg my favorite composer. It is magnificent.
Relaxes your mind........2005-12-30
The peer gynt suite is very delicate and it relaxes me. Whenever I hear the first movement of Peer Gynt, I feel as if I am walking along the forest at dawn with sunshine passing through the tall trees. It calms me and I usually close my eyes to imagine Grieg's creative masterpiece. What also interests me the fourth movement. It starts with slow and quiet and then slowly the music accelerates with power. Like the title, "Mountain King," says itself, you can feel the grandness of the music toward the end.
The piano concerto in a minor is my favorite. This music seem to convey the full spectrum from quiet and delicate or gracious feel of music to more powerful and magnificent all proportionally adequately. It is very enjoyable. Whenever I listen to this music, I feel as if I am resting in the high mountainn looking at the full panorama. Anyway, that's just my imagination I feel from his music and of course, yours can be very different from mine.
As for the CD quality, I hear no distraction sound and it is recorded well, I think. The little cover booklet can be informative about Grieg. Also nice price from Amazon.
Relaxing music from a great composer.......2005-08-02
I absolutely loved the string music on Track 3. I remembered it from an old PC RPG called Quest for Glory IV. I was disappointed to find out that Track 4 was only a minute and a half long, because I grew up loving that song from the various places I heard it (Fantasia and a kid Detective PC game from the late 80's).
Overall, though, Grieg's greatest hits is a must-have for collectors of classical music. Grieg is revered as Norway's greatest composer of all time and he certainly has a knack for creating imagery of bustling fjords and majestic mountainsides with interlaced river ravines.
Better than just an introduction.......2004-04-28
This CD goes beyond just introducing Grieg. It is a truly beautiful and for me, invaluable collection of this excellent composer. Grieg had an inimitable gift for exploring emotion, often sadness and nostalgia. However, he also had a large touch of the virtuoso, as demonstrated by the famous Piano Concerto. True, the last 2 movements are not included here; however, the first is still stunning. The Peer Gynt Suites are wonderfully played, and Ase's Death and Heartwounds are especially noteworthy - the lush orchestral sounds of these gorgeous pieces unfold exquisitely. Homage March is a nice change of pace, upbeat and with a memorable theme, and Leonard Bernstein moves at a devilish pace in March of the Trolls. This CD will not disappoint you - buy it today!
Great CD.......2002-01-29
For an intro to Greig, this is great. The "hall of the mountain king" is done very well.

Beautiful!.......2007-04-24
I've owned this CD for several years now, and it definitely remains on my short, short list of favorites! The music is beautiful and contemplative, drawing the listener into the journey of migration undertaken by the birds who inspired it. Everything is amazing on it: the writing, the instrumentation, the vocals. This albumn is definitely not just for fans of the movie, but for anyone who loves slow, calming, thoughtful music.
Winged Migration CD.......2007-02-08
Awesome, for the most part- best after watching the documentary. A couple of songs had to skip through, but the rest is a good post movie mental review- watch the movie first...
Beautiful Soundtrack.......2007-01-06
I loved this movie and the soundtrack makes it ever better. I havent bought a CD in a while and this one is reasonably priced and rare.
WINGED MIGRATION.......2006-08-29
The movie is excellent. The scenery is breathtaking, but you actually feel like you are flying with the geese. Geese are amazing birds. A must see.
THE RIGHT MUSIC FOR THE RIGHT MOVIE.......2006-06-22
Even if you haven't seen the beautiful french documentary, you'll love this soundtrack. The score captivates listeners from the very beginning and the song "To Be By Your Side" by Nick Cave gives the very special mood that the movie requires. Bruno Coulais is the same composer from HIMALAYA, thus you may understand better the sort of music you're listening: half ethnic, half new age and totally haunting. Don't miss it.

Sooner or Later.......2007-07-07
This album came out when mu husband had died. I do so wish he had lived to hear some of this music he would have loved it too.
The feelings and emotions in this album truely spoke to my experience as a young widow.
I was in Yonkers when this was being filmed. I had the chance to be at the shopping mall when that scene was filmed. To this day I still can feel all the emotion and thrill in the air that was there that day when Rex was perfoming Better than It's ever been before live.
If you have the opportunity to see him perform live-- take it!!! It is the chance of a lifetime to see a performer of Rex's calibur. He treats his audiance like they truly matter. Not many modern performers take the time to get to know their fan base like he does. Take the chance to meet and greet Rex you will not be disappointed!!!
Beautiful Love Story With Great Music!.......2007-06-20
This is a great cd to go along with a great movie for young and old. Jessie talking to her grandma is a great part of the movie. Jessie's Theme is the best song on the soundtrack. Buy this cd you'll love it!

I Have been waiting for this cd to be released on cd for years and was glad to finally have it in my collection. It sure was nice to see how well he has aged, too!.
Finally on CD.......2006-12-17
Nice to have the album finally released on CD. Great album and movie from the '70's. Hearing the songs again brings back a lot of memories.
I love this soundtrack.......2006-12-07
I loved this movie as a young girl and love the soundtrack as well. But to this day, I'm still upset that the soundtrack doesn't include the song "Shades of Blue." The song that is played when Michael breaks up with Jessie. The song is perfect for those scenes while she's crying. Though it does have a happy ending! :)

Album Description
Axe were a metal rock band led by vocalist Edgar Riley and guitarist Bobby Barth. They released numerous albums in the 80's and have had a cult following ever since. Their two biggest albums were Offering (1982) & Nemesis (1983), their only Billboard charting albums. Offering rose to # 81 in 1982. First time on CD. Wounded Bird. 2003.
Customer Reviews:
Brings back great memories!.......2006-09-14
Axe came out at a time just before the recording studios turned their backs on alot of really good rock bands to put all their time and money on Hip Hop. They turned their backs on bands like AXE who could have went on to have produced many more really good CD's. Instead we get very low quality Hip Hop so called artists most who are still having a hard time with their abc's. Anyway AXE is a very good band and if your are into rock music then this is a must have CD. Offering is a CD that you won't get tired of after just a few times of listening to it. It doesn't have "shock qualities" as Rap Music. You can hear some of their sounds in some of the modern rock of today. This CD is a keeper, not one that you will get tired of for a long period of time.
One of those unknown perfect recordings........2006-07-14
Perfect from start to finish, somehow this disc isn't among rock's royalty. The production is first rate for rock and roll sound. Original rock and a cover of Montrose's "I Got the Fire" that was a little slicker than the original. Barth (who vocally sounds like a young Sammy Hagar at times) and Michael Osbourne deliver a one-two punch on guitars. If you love Montrose, Aerosmith, and Blackfoot, then you will appreciate this overlooked classic.
Offering provided the rally cry of a generation.......2006-05-25
Offering is the first cassette I sought to replace when CDs emerged on the market. I had "20 Years from Home" but had been devistated to find the songs I remembered and loved remixed on it.
Most people can claim a song or a band as their generation's trademark call to party; Axe's "Rock and Roll Party" and "Burn the City Down" was ours. I had 3 cassettes of Offering, one for my car, one for my boyfriend's and one for the portable player I took on my morning run. Friday nights started out with these songs blasting on the stereo.
Of course such reminisence tells little about the music. Axe supplied some pounding rock rhythms with lyrics that were identifiable and discernable, if not especially profound. They successfully built a bridge from rock to heavy metal, spanning dance/pop in a style similar to (but equal or better) that of other popular rock songs of that time period unique enough to transcend the predominating punk/pop culture, like Tonight is What it Means to be Young (off the Streets of Fire album), Dancing in the Dark (Springsteen) and On the Dark Side (Eddie and the Cruisers). Axe offered refreshment to a generation who had teethed on the likes of Led Zepplin, Rush, Yes, The Who and The Doors, but were getting cavities on the pop candy tunes of Madonna, the GoGos, Prince and Duran Duran. Axe's intrepid style earned them airplay on most radio stations and a loyal fan following. This style is showcased on Offering. I am thrilled that the music on Offering has been preserved for the evaluation and, hopefully, enjoyment of generations to come.
I Love it!!!.......2006-03-12
I used to listen to this song when I was real little and loved it. I never understood why they quit playing it. I agree with others that this is the song it is all about. No one makes em like this anymore. Wish they still did.
Includes the AOR hit "ROCK AND ROLL PARTY IN THE STREETS".......2005-10-31
Damn it took this a long time to make it onto CD. The rock radio station in the town where I grew up used to play "Rock and Roll Party In The Streets" all the time. Then, sometime around 1984 they stopped - and I never heard it again... Sometimes I see them lumped with bands like Blackfoot and Molly Hatchet - which is probably appropriate. They definitely had that southern rock thing going on, but Axe seemed like a metal band back in the day - probably because of their album art. In retrospect, their sound was based in no-nonsense hard rock. In addition to the super-cool radio song "Rock and Roll Party In The Streets", they also cover the Montrose track "I Got The Fire". There are a few notable softer cuts, but it's really all about the one song "Rock and Roll Party In The Streets". Offering is their third album, and likely their best (Nemesis is also pretty decent).
FYI - AOR stands for Album Oriented Rock, a very successful FM radio format in the late 70s and early 80s that evolved from the underground/freeform radio formats of the late 60s. ...Post disco, but pre Madonna. Quite a lot of these stations eventually morphed again into Classic Rock stations during the late 80s and early 90s. Axe is one of the many bands that had their moment in the AOR era, but have been excluded from most classic rock programming.

Keeps on tickin!.......2007-06-15
I'll have to say first, I didn't know what to expect when I bought this CD. I bought it after I heard Influences. That was an excellent (cover song) effort in it's own right. I am very glad I did take the plunge. For those who like original, real electric / acoustic rock with good vocal leads, harmonies and solid, talented musicianship, this a CD is for you. It is not a rehashed Styx, Night Ranger or Dam Yankees mix. It is a bit lighter than most of that music, but very good none the less. It starts right out with the 2 excellent cuts and maintains a high degree of quality throughout. This is no partially talented and/or half-baked attempt to make a few bucks CD either. It's a well recorded CD, with songs crafted by an accomplished, talented duo with Steve Smith on drums. The songs range from outstanding to good. No fills or bummers here. I would have liked to see it a bit longer (more songs). And that's a compliment of sorts too. It was that good. But it's not easy to write a full CD's worth of good songs. This CD is well worth listening to.
More Please! .......2007-06-02
I've never written one of these and probably won't again unless Shaw Blades releases another like Hallucination. Guys, the covers are nice, but why do I want to listen to what I already know when you are capable of producing your own original (and excellent) work. To the listening public: buy this one, enjoy it and join me in beating the drum for MORE!
Two Righteous Rockers Team Up For A Dynamic Duo.......2007-04-27
On HALLUCINATION, Tommy Shaw (Styx, Damn Yankees) and Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees), team up for a session on which they play all instruments except drums, which are handled by Steve Smith. This CD is much lighter in sound than their previous bands' music was, and is, with songs espousing the idea that camaraderie and friendship are more important than trying to impress the opposite sex by wearing clothing made in countries which convict foreign tourists on false charges. Given the fact that Shaw and Blades both advocate sanctions against Indonesia in retaliation for that country's trumped-up 2005 drug-smuggling conviction of a young Australian tourist, that can hardly be seen as a surprise. Shaw's and Blades's views on this issue make HALLUCINATION an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
Awesome Album.......2007-03-14
I'm a huge styx fan and a huge Night Ranger fan I love these guys' Damn Yankees work as well as their other side projects. This is a fantastic album by 2 of the best musicians to come out of their generation.
Good, strong album.......2006-11-06
If you like Damn Yankees, you'll probably like this CD. It's not quite as heavy, but Shaw & Blades complement each other really well and the tracks are all solid.

Awsome.......2007-05-16
I've been following Bayside's music for a couple of years now and have most of their albums. I think that this one is the best by far. The entire album is awsome. You can tell by the meaningful lyrics and intricate guitar work that the band put a lot of thought and hard work into the album. A must have for anyone who even remotely likes Bayside.
Great CD.......2007-04-10
I think this is one of the best C.D.'s I have bought in a while. I liked Sirens and Condolences a bit so I preordered this albulm. When I got it was immediately hooked. It's much better than Sirens and Condolences. There are many knock out songs such as The Walking Wounded, I And I, Head On A Plate, Duality, and of course the amazing Landing Feet First. This is an albulm I can play on my ipod and let it go all the way through. It's a full albulm of catchy songs, good melodies, and pretty decent lyrics.
Great New CD (review from a Non-Bayside Fan).......2007-03-20
OK, since this is the first time I've heard them, this review definitely would apply to the non-Bayside seasoned fan, if that makes sense.
This CD is great. It's kind of like a mix between My Chemical Romance and Panic at the Disco... only a bit softer. I am a fan of FOB, The Summer Obsession and others including pioneers Jimmy Eat World.
If you like all those I just mentioned, then this CD will find favor in your CD rotation.
As to the claims that Bayside has gone soft; that is very possible, but like I said, this is my first CD and after stumbling onto them I am extremely happy that I can write a run-on sentence about how I love this CD.
This CD is now in the CD-player ready for Spring to kick in.
My Friend........2007-03-07
This is a wonderful album. I think most people who reviewed this album spent more time listening to the self titled record. I think this album is a pleasent departure from the sound that self titled bayside brought to us. It is not entirely different. But yes in lyrical content it is a LOT less depressed. But i think this is not a tottaly new thing for the band at all. Sirens and Condolences had its fair share of positive punches and pop driven chorus and melody. As a true believer of bayside i would reccomend this album to anyone. Bayside is a band that makes me still have faith in music. Good honest meaningful music. I know this band is often clasiffied as an Emo but i think it is an understatement. This band has a unique sound that is their own. I would compare their sound to the smoking popes, or the smiths.
Maybe five stars was a little generous.......2007-02-20
Is it just me or has Bayside gotten soft? I don't just mean musically (after all, who doesn't love their acoustic ep?) but lyrically as well. Don't get me wrong, this is a great album...but I miss the bayside that hated love and used morbid metaphors to describe pain and loneliness. The lyrics are actually a bit corky at times anyway...as if they really wanted to say something mean but chose to be polite instead. It just doesn't flow as their previous songs have...which means that I will most likely get tired of half of the songs as they seem to follow the same path that many other bands in the genre have...by writing catchy songs with little substance...which means I most likely won't be listening to this album three months from now...at least not in it's entirety.
To be fair however, I think the writing has matured a bit and the message has grown a little more optimistic. A year and a half ago when they released their self titled LP, they painted a picture of a band frustrated but hopeful with a firm resolve to not only stay in the game, but to not allow circumstances to control them. With this CD we see the same resolve, and yet not nearly as frustrated...Perhaps after adjusting to their bandmates death last year, they have decided to focus on more important, worthwhile things...while at times even shifting their focus to matters of faith with honest integrity.
One of my favorite songs on the album is "Dear Holiness" in which they do just that...determining to stay strong even if they feel alone. Perhaps this is when the writing gets the best, when they approach it with so much honesty, that even the "holiest" of people could actually relate to it even when the message leaves off at doubting God and putting faith in oneself.
I admit the band seems a little too comfortable with their own originality and doesn't earn any credit by taking credit for "bringing music back to music", but they still delivered a solid album that is still worth a spot in any collection.

Pop-influenced big band sound reaches maturity with this album.......2007-04-15
This album marks the point at which Maynard's band hit its stride in the era of the pop-rock-influenced big band sound. In the years just prior to this 1973 release, the band had relied heavily - but not always successfully - on interpretations of top-40 tunes to give it a contemporary sound and wider appeal (the "Ridin' High" album is a prime example of a less-than-successful effort). For this album, five of the seven tracks are original tunes written especially for the band in a contemporary rock-influenced style that would help set the standard for other groups that would follow. For example, "Mother Fingers" sounds like the type of material the Saturday Night Live band started to play a few years later.
The remaining two tracks ("Round Midnight" and "Love Theme from The Valachi Papers") are the ballad offerings of this set, done in a style more like Maynard's band of a decade earlier. Both are beautiful arrangements, and this rendition of "Round Midnight" may be the best big band version of that old standard ever recorded.
Trumpet enthusiasts may wish that Maynard had done more trumpet solos instead of switching to valve trombone for a couple of tunes, but it's always nice to hear what he does with the latter instrument, where he's not expected to play high notes all the time. Also, some listeners (myself included) would better enjoy the closing track "S.O.M.F." if it didn't open and close with solos by an Indian instrument identified as the "veen." Those who know Maynard's history recognize this as his homage to the time he spent in India in the 1960s, but it seems starkly out of place in a big band setting. (Note: The updated CD package mislabels this track as "S.M.O.F.")
For avid Maynard fans, especially those who heard him perform in the 1970s, this CD is a must-have. For others, this is good but not his best from this period - see my review of "M.F. Horn 4 & 5: Live at Jimmy's."
My Favorate Maynard Album.......2007-04-11
This was my favorate Maynard Ferguson LP. The CD sounds just as good as the LP. Note, however, that it is also just as long as the LP. That means that you are paying for a CD with less than 40 minutes of music on it.
A Purely Subjective Review.......2007-03-02
This happens to be my favorite Maynard album of all time. The clowns at Columbia/Sony took their sweet time (30+ years) allowing this one to be released on CD -- just in time for Maynard himself not to see it happen (you can tell I am a big fan of Columbia/Sony brass). This was the last of the original "MF Horn" series recorded with the original "English" crew, and for once, Columbia got the audio right. A great sounding album, along with great performances by all involved.
