5 out of 5 stars Nashvilles' Best Kept Secret.......2002-12-30

To those of you out there who have never heard the beautiful, soulful, kickin, sounds of Nashvilles Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies, I feel sorry for you!!! I was first turned on to the band in '93 with their self titled debut, and immediatly was blown away by the tightness and uniqueness of the sound. From the opening riff in "Ride the Tide" I was hooked!!! Live Vol. 1&2, recorded at 328 Performance Hall, Nashville Tn.,Feb. 12, 2000, was a benefit concert for the Matthew Butler Foundation, which provides training and support for people with disabilties, to live normal lives. The lucky fans who were there were treated to three full sets of the Wheelies, performing all three studio albums, in running order. Disc 1 features the self titled first album.. after an intro from jazz great Jimmy Hall the band tears into "Shakin the Blues" and the SCW prove that they are as tight a live unit as a studio band.. I can't really pick a favorite track because they are all great... Disc 2 features tracks from the Magnolia disc, which is one of the best rock albums of the '90s. Again every track smokes!!! Several tracks are omitted from each album , and the entire third set was never released because the band felt they may have had too many "spirits" that evening. Bottom Line: SCW's are the best live band out there... hands down!! Do yourself a favor and buy all their releases...PEACE!!

A great live effort from a great band, they will always be one on my favorite bands.

5 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Rock/Blues/Funk/Soul Jam Bands Ever.......2001-07-03

It's a mystery to me (and all the other Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies fans that I've met at their live shows since 1993) why this band is not more popular. While the music on their studio albums is some of the most soulful ever recorded, hearing them live is an almost religious experience. This double CD set is a perfect testament to their dedication and power. Rick White and Bobby Watkins are two of the best duelling lead guitarists that you've never heard of. Steve Burgess is one major league funky bass player and Terry Thomas does some things on his drumkit that defy description. As incredible as these four masters are, the lead singer, harp player and sometimes guitarist is a phenomenon unto himself. Imagine Jim Morrison mixed with Stevie Ray Vaughan then add a dash of Joe Cocker having a drink with Marvin Gaye and you've got the near holy vocals of Mike Farris. When he sings, you feel like God is standing backstage listening in. This 2 CD set captures their live show as well as possible without actually standing right in front of the stage. While every song is worth extended replays, stand-outs include "Leave Your Pride", "I Found Love", "Magnolia" and (my personal favorite) "Father Speaks". I can't say enough about this album. You will be very pleased by what you hear.

5 out of 5 stars A Classic.......2005-12-23

Mike Farris is one of Rock's best singer/songwriters and it seems that nobody knows it. Although this solo effort is much more subdued than his work with his former band - the Screaming Cheetah Wheelies - it might just be his best. The acoustic guitar work allows the listener to really absorb and appreciate his soulful, moving vocals as well as his lyric writing talents. There are so many great songs on this cd. It would be the perfect selection for a long drive through the countryside or through mountains on a warm sunny day. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Sublime!.......2005-12-06

His first solo album track "Sublime" define his job.
What a lot of soul!!! Incredible melodys, depp words and his amazing black voice...
Poor of me! I missed his two concerts in Spain this year, I think the only thing I can do is put on "Know Good Know How" on my car-cd and drive hundreds miles watchin' the sky and smile...

5 out of 5 stars What a voice.......2005-12-03

If you have never heard the Screaming Cheetah Wheelies, then you owe it to yourself to get this cd and all the other SCW cd's. This guy is one of the best front men I have ever heard. I have had the pleasure of also seeing them live and he sounds just as good live as he does on the albums if not better.

    Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars One of the least interesting live Muddies.......2005-08-10

There is a LOT of live Muddy Waters out there, ranging from the magnificent (like "Muddy Waters Live At Newport 1960") to the mediocre, and this one belongs with the latter.
It's not bad, Muddy never was, but on "Screamin' And Cryin'" Muddy neither screams nor cries...it's a more laid-back Muddy Waters than on earlier recordings, and the set is burdened by too many s-l-o-w numbers and mediocre instrumentals, and not enough firepower.

There are some highlights as well, of course, like "Blow Wind Blow" and "Hoochie Coochie Man", but there is really nothing here which isn't available in equally good or better renditions on other live recordings of the Muddy Waters blues band. This rendition of "Got My Mojo Working" is disappointing, and "Screamin' And Cryin'" lacks the intensity of terrific live albums like "Mojo: The Live Collection", "The Lost Tapes", "Chicago 1979" and of course the Newport album.
Go for any of those instead; this one is for completists.

5 out of 5 stars live muddy expert.......2005-06-01

I have a just about everything i can get my hands on that muddy has done "LIVE". Folks I was a little skeptical about this one but forked over the bucks for it anyway. It inspired me so much I am writing my first review. The sound is excellent the recording is excellent There are some instrumentals that are simply fantastic. The crowd and Muddy are into it. The band is cooking on this one and so is Muddy. The song selection is great. New Muddy fans. Pick this one up to start your "LIVE" collection. You won't regret it.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Maids: Underrated Rockers.......2002-05-04

Pretty Maids are a highly underrated band here in the U.S. Their albums are only available as imports. A shame. Whereas live albums usually aren't my favorites, and this is no exception, I do enjoy the music, regardless. This album includes live versins of some of my favorite songs. "Yellow Rain" a song about Viet Nam and it's soldiers. "Back to Back" is a hard rockin' anthem about war. Lead vocalist Ronnie Atkins voice is powerful and ranges from a growl to a melodic powerhouse. My favorite song on the album is the live version of "Savage Heart". I love the vocals. All in all a fine live set from the Danish hard rock band thats been around for close to twenty years.

      5 out of 5 stars Stan Lives!.......2001-10-26

Stan lives! If you really want to know what big bands are all about, and why
some people remain helplessly enchanted by their near-hypnotic charm, go
directly to Track 3 - do not pass go - and listen closely to Bill Holman's
breathtaking arrangement of "What's New?," brilliantly interpreted by Lenny
King's superlative Chicago Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra (in whose ranks are
some of the area's finest Jazz musicians). If that doesn't convince you that
the big bands aren't yet breathing their last, I'd guess that nothing will. I
believe my pulse rate must have doubled while the CMJO was reinvigorating
that classic Holman chart, and I was grinning from ear to ear (always an
indication of unbridled enjoyment). But this is no more than one should
anticipate from King's impressive orchestra, which has been dazzling
Chicagoans for nearly four years with its marvelous interpretations of music
written by or for Stan Kenton or performed by Stan's fondly remembered big
bands. Now, with Live and Screamin', recorded in front of a remarkably
attentive and well-behaved audience at FitzGerald's nightclub in suburban
Berwyn, the rest of the country - and the world - has a chance to learn
what Chicago already knows, namely, that the venerated spirit of Kenton is
alive and well in the Windy City thanks to the enterprising and talented
CMJO. And not the spirit of Kenton alone, as the orchestra doesn't confine
itself to his music. The high-octane opener, "Magic Flea," is a Basie chart
written by the peerless Sammy Nestico. Woody Herman is represented by
Don Rader's funky "Greasy Sack Blues," Maynard Ferguson by Don
Sebesky's arrangement of "Maria" and Adrian Drover's treatment of
"MacArthur Park" (each of which features the glass-shattering trumpet of
Dennis Noday). Noday also solos on Gordon Brisker's splendid arrangement
of Bobby Shew's tribute to Blue Mitchell, "Blue." Besides "What's New?," the
songs associated with Kenton include "A Time for Love" (arranged by Hank
Levy), the Lennie Niehaus tribute "I Remember Stan," Holman's enchanting
arrangement of "Yesterdays" (featuring the outstanding tenor saxophonist
Mark Colby), Gene Roland's "Fitz" (especially appropriate in light of the
venue), Johnny Richards' fiery "El Congo Valiente," the Niehaus arrangement
of "But Beautiful," and Dee Barton's treatment of "Here's That Rainy Day."
Completing the program is the standard "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the
Most" (another terrific arrangement, this one by Frank Mantooth), which I
believe June Christy or someone else (Chris Connor?) may have sung with
the Kenton band. While the Holman charts (the first of which includes
galvanizing solos by Colby, Terry Connell, Chris Sarlas and Tim Coffman) are
in a class by themselves, everything on this spellbinding disc goes far beyond
noteworthy. The ensemble is alert and explosive, the rhythm section alive and
kickin' butt, the soloists (especially Colby, Connell, Sarlas, pianist Don Stille
and trombonists Tim Coffman, John Mose and Hary Kozlowski) sharp and
resilient, and Noday's "Maynard impression" almost letter-perfect. Nowhere is
the Kenton imprint more conspicuous than on "I Remember Stan," wherein
Stille's unaccompanied piano is a virtual mirror image of Stan's, while
Niehaus' perceptive arrangement and Jim Peterson's soft-flowing flugel solo
reframe perfectly the magic that was and always will be Kenton. In one
listener's humble opinion, this is no less than a screamin' masterpiece, and
wherever Stan is, he must be smiling. If you can find a copy, grab it!

Sarlas, John Irabagon, Kent Lawson, Mark Colby, Frank Catalano, Ken
