This album is one of lord belials best in my opinion, the lyrics are brilliantly written, the music is beautiful yet brutal, and just an excellent album.

5 out of 5 stars SUPERB!.......2000-07-04

This truely is one of the best blackmetal albums I have ever heard. Lord Belial is deffinetly one of the most underrated bands alive! Simply killer!

3 out of 5 stars Not what I was hoping for!.......2007-08-01

This album and this band is good at best. Not one of my favorites by any means. This is the first and only cd I have by them and I guess I was expecting something else. It has been one of those I look over when I look for something to play in my metal collection. Nothing on here really stands out and makes me say this band or cd is something I'd reccomend to others who like this genre of metal. Others may like them for whatever reasons but I have to pass on them.

3 out of 5 stars Not their best.......2006-03-23

Immolation is one of those bands that you either love or hate. Many have called this Immolation's best album. I must disagree. Dont get me wrong, this is a good death metal album, with many twists and turns, but none of the songs jump out at you. Sure, Reluctant Messiah and A Kingdom Divided are decent songs, but they just cant compare to songs from any other Immolation album. Lastly, the production of the album annoys me. The drums have that triggered feel to them and it takes away from the sound that Immolation has.

Of all the Immolation albums, I rarely listen to this one.

    4 out of 5 stars A real mind DESTROYER!!.......2005-12-17

IMMOLATION are one of the FEW death metal band's whom, from the 80's are still KILLER!! IMMO's sound can only be compared to them..VERY FUKKED UP STUFF!!

The whole message against JOOSUS, is great and their is no preaching of ''Satan'' either, showing a NEW intelegence in METAL, which I hope to see continue!!

This almost sorta has a dISEMBOWELMENT feel to it, but not really, very different form the first IMMO album, if not some what better!!

One of the better death metal album's in the 00's!!

Hope the IMMO boyz keep up the SICK work, hail's!!

5 out of 5 stars This is probably my favorite Immolation cd..........2005-12-06

At first, i didn't really like but a couple of songs on here. This is what happens to me on the first couple of listens on all of the Immolation cd's. It's like i like it at first, but at the same time i don't, does that makes sense? After some time though, this has become one of my favorite death metal albums of all time. I don't know what it is about this cd, just the atmosphere, production, riffs, drum-work, everything just rules. I highly recommend this land-mark release to any fan of death metal. Immolation has become one of my favorite death metal bands of all time.

    Album Description

Featuring members of seminal Syracuse, New York bands The Path Of Resistance, Godbelow, and Another Victim, Unholy plays hardcore influenced metal with no regard for the latest trends and fashions. There is no singing, no blast beats, and no lyrics about love lost. This is modern metal/hardcore with plenty of acerbic vocals, meaty guitar riffs, and double bass from five men who have paid their dues.

    4 out of 5 stars Unholy mix-up.......2004-10-08

I remember hearing Unholy Passion for the first time back in the mid-80's. It was beyond spooky. The whole album had this pure feeling of evil and torture.
This CD is great to have around, as I don't like to wear my vinyl out. The only problem is the re-mixing. The guitar tracks were all done over, and the mix was "cleaned up". I loved the orginal mix waaaay more than this offering. The original had a deep, almost throbbing feel to it, even if the vocals were mixed low and instrumental separation was non-existant. That's what set the tone of the album however.
Unholy Passion is one of the best musical offerings any group could put out, but the new mix falls short of the original.

    4 out of 5 stars Its Unholy.......2003-02-10

First off, there's a lot of history to this EP. First, it appeared as 5 song EP on vinyl. Then it appeared on the "Initium" CD with an extra track. Then it appeared as the second half of the "Final Descent" album. Now, its back on its own. Another thing to note is that when "Unholy Passion" first game out, it featured Damien on guitar, but somewhere along the way Danzig, as he'd also done with some unrealeased Misfits' material, re-recorded the guitar parts himself (it was rumored that this was done to avoid paying Damien royalties) and I know that this was the version that originally appeared on "Final Descent" and that's also the version that appears here. So you're not really getting the original "Unholy Passion".

Secondly, this contains the 3 best songs Samhain ever recorded, those being "Unholy Passion", "The Hungry End", and "I Am Misery". "All Hell" (an updated version of the Misfits' "All Hell Breaks Loose") and "Moribund" are also good tunes. If you're not familiar Samhain's sound, the best description is sort of mid-tempo punk-goth-hard rock cross that takes its evil much more seriously than the Misfits ever did (but that doesn't mean you have to). And if you wonder why I keep mentioning the Misfits its because Samhain was Glenn Danzig's first post-Misfits project (but chances are you already know that).

Anyway, there 3 lowpoints to this release. One is the so-called "bonus track", "Misery's Tomb", which is just the backing vocal and bass tracks of "I Am Misery". Pretty dull. You'll probably only listen to it intentionally once. Then there's the production. Like all Samhain releases, the production pretty weak. The guitars are mixed too low and the vocals sound sort of muffled. And then, finally, the packaging is chintzy. No pictures, no lyrics, no credits, no nothing. Still, the songs, for the most part, are excellent so they make up for most of the album's weaknesses.

5 out of 5 stars All hell breaks loose........2002-02-07

Previously issued on CD tacked onto INITIUM, the UNHOLY PASSION EP is much better on its own. Barely 20 minutes long, UNHOLY PASSION nonetheless stands as the most consistent, and perhaps the most satisfying, Samhain release.

An excellent "sampler" for the Samhain-curious, UNHOLY PASSION provides marvelous examples of the variety within the Samhain sound, from the sinister Misfits update "All Hell" to the self-explanatory wail of "I Am Misery." The opening title track, the prototypical Samhain chant, is instantly infectious and intoxicating. It doesn't get any darker than this - nor any better. Fans who dig this should definitely shell out now for the rest of the collection.

      5 out of 5 stars A Rich & Robust Score.......2001-06-19

Many of you, like me, may have been wondering what the difference is between this score and the one that was released in the early 90's, also on the Marco Polo label. Well firstly, the earlier release was not complete and also included tracks from House of Frankenstein. This new release basically happened because composer, John Morgan, was unhappy with the initial release and wanted another crack at this forgotten score. The result: a fully complete and terrific score from the 1942 Universal classic, Ghost of Frankenstein. Morgan was able to pull together the resources that Hans J. Salter himself did not have to record the original and give us the score as it was originally intended. Recorded under the supervision of Salter, just before he passed away, this is hands-down the best release of the monster scores from Marco Polo to date. Do not pass up.

5 out of 5 stars Way over the top!.......2000-06-08

This music is far and away beyond being exceptional! Messrs. John Morgan and William Stromberg have yet again exceed their past triumphs (I have no clue how they keep doing this!). Where to begin? Perhaps, with some numbers: five stars (out of five) for restoration, arrangement/re-arrangement, and cue selection/editing; five stars for presentation (conducting and orchestral performance); five stars for recording and mastering; and five stars for the fascinating (and huge!) CD booklet courtesy of Messrs. Bill Whitaker and John Morgan (the photo on page 33 is worth the price of admission alone!). With a new orchestral venue and technical crew, Mr. Stromberg has once again "come into his own," acoustically speaking; the technical aspects of past recordings with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra has often been ham handed and uneven to the point of distraction. But the sound on these tracks is definitely 21st Century in quality! For those new to the neighborhood, just who are these two film composer folks--Frank Skinner and Hans J. Salter? Well, among other notable achievements, they saved many a Universal programmer during the late 30's and early-to-mid 40's (and very likely the studios's bacon to boot). When you view Universal's "second wave" of horror films even today, two things instantly grab your attention: the stunning photography and the inventive, pulsating music. "(These) pictures were a great challenge, because ... before scoring they didn't seem to have much fright about them or cohesion either. They'd screen one of those pictures for us without the music, and it would be nothing. The challenge was in creating the sense of terror and suspense, and that is something music can do. All the pictures we saved for them!" Mr. Salter is quoted as saying in the CD booklet. Like many of the film scores of Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Salter and Skinner's music transcends and is enormously superior to the films for which they composed. Until Messrs. Morgan and Stromberg got the bit in their teeth, Salter and Skinner's film scores had served to elevate fair-to middling films, but, in turn, it was the poor reputation of these movies that served to suppress vastly underrated film music! NONE of this music has ever been heard like it is presented here. The Universal studio orchestra had barely 40 players; this CD uses a full symphony. Also, Mr. Morgan was able to work extensively with Mr. Salter on restorations during the final year's of the latter's long life. To quote Mr. Salter once more from the CD booklet, the executives at Universal "never knew what they had" in the way of music talent. I strongly recommend that you don't make the same mistake. Latch on to this CD while you still can!

4 out of 5 stars Much of this shows its classical roots.......2000-05-17

Some music is great fun, either in itself or by personal associations or both. So when Marco Polo issued selections from the Salter/Skinner scores to "Son of Frankenstein," "The Invisible Man Returns," and "The Wolf Man" back in 1995 and followed up with the complete film score to "House of Frankenstein" by Salter and Dessau, I could not keep from grinning foolishly hearing it, all the time realizing how good some of it really was.

Now we have (8.225124) that treat us to 22 cuts from "The Ghost of Frankenstein," 8 from "Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror," and a taste of three other films. The very generous program notes tell the whole story, with good lobbycard illustrations, of how this team worked together--one slept as the other worked--and I leave it to you to read all about it for yourself. As for the music itself, listen to the "Monster Theme" in the first suite and think if you will of how Wagner treated the "Dragon Leitmotif" in "Siegfried" to appreciate how classically grounded much of this music is in the tradition of Weber, Wagner, and even Richard Strauss. Not all of the selections are of high quality, but enough are to merit this offering a high rating.

      Happy and spooky listening, folks.

I am very satisfied with my purchase. It CD was in great shape.

4 out of 5 stars In the vein of The Headless Children.......2006-05-05

In 1989, WASP released "The Headless Children", an album that frontman and vocalist Blackie Lawless used as a vehicle to spew venom upon the prevailing social hypocrisy of that time. It became an instant fan favourite. Now, more than a decade later, Lawless returns in the same mould, with WASP's "Unholy Terror". And boy, does the album speak out or what. For all of his recklessness and rebellious attitude, Lawless is not an anarchist, as he was and is often made out to be. His strong beliefs on religion and society's misgivings are more than evident on this album.

The album opens with "Let It Roar", a kickass number with some real heavy riffs by long time WASP guitarist Chris Holmes. Though the drums seem kinda hollow, this song is a definite concert favourite. Blackie's vocals are as raw as ever, and the man seems to show no signs of age affecting him. "Hate To Love Me" is WASP's idea of a love song, and Blackie sure a hell has no concept of sugary sweet love. Heh. Blackie is his usual irreverent self.

"Loco-motive Man" is the first social stab on the album. This isn't about any train driver, but, in Blackie's own words, "it's about an individual on a ride that's out of control". Lawless apparently is talking about all the shoot-outs in American schools, but this song could be about just any psycho out there.

The album's central theme is explored in two songs. "Unholy Terror" is kinda marred by its low guitar tones, but Blackie's vocals are mesmerizing. It leads into "Charisma", a song that speaks about the effects that the powerful few have on the believing millions. There are extensive notes in the inner sleeves that lend an insight into what these songs are all about.

The rest of the album has a lot of diversity, with vintage WASP carnage on tracks like "Who Slayed Baby Jane" and "Raven Heart", a real inspired instrumental "Euphoria" and the final "Wasted White Boys". The only real disappointment is "Evermore", which was to be included as a reprise to 'Forever Free" on the Headless album. It was not developed at that time, and in my opinion, should have been left so.

Blackie has produced this album himself, and has done a pretty good job of it. However the production is not without blemishes. The most glaring problem on the album is that the drums have been recorded very poorly, and end up sounding very hollow and disjointed a lot of the times. Though it isn't evident all the time, it does prove to be distracting on a couple of tracks. Also, there isn't much of a song writing collaboration with guitarist Chris Holmes. This tends to make certain parts of the album sound similar at times.

All in all, this album shows that WASP still haven't lost it after all these years, a fact that is more relevant coming in the wake of "Helldorado", which wasn't exactly a critical or commercial success. This is a great album to have, in fact, a must-buy for WASP fans. And if you're not, than its high time you became one. You won't regret it.

          4 out of 5 stars Excellent WASP.......2006-03-12

Make no mistake, this is right up there with The Headless Children and Crimson. Blackie went back to basics and it shows. From Let it roar to Charisma, it rocks. Much better than Helldorado and the worst WASP to date, KFD.

2 out of 5 stars Not as good as kfd, to say the least.......2005-03-23

I first heard this album at a friends house. I didnt like the fact wasp we're trying to be another megadeath. I wouldnt recommend this one.

          4 out of 5 stars standard W.A.S.P........2004-05-21

After the more experimental albums, this is again your average WASP and good one at that.
