If you have never heard of the Righteous Brothers, you must know that of the few singers that have a unique voice, this is one of them, they are brilliant. Their songs are timeless, others have tried to sing them, but poorly. It takes talent. They are classic, and forever. "You've lost that loving feeling" will leave you breathless.

The first four songs on Unchained come from the songbooks of Beck, Don Gibson, Soundgarden, and Jimmie Rodgers. What might look like absurdly unsupportable eclecticism in other artists, of course, is pretty much standard stuff for Cash. Unchained is hardly standard, though; it's more like the best album he's made since his 1984 departure from Columbia Records. Not only is this a stack of songs perfectly and idiosyncratically suited to the man, they're given door-rattling backing treatment by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, who prove as fitting for Cash's music as his own Tennessee Two was back in the day. --Rickey Wright

Out of print in the U.S.! Two years on from his triumphant comeback album, American Recordings, 1996's Unchained took the blueprint of it's predecessor and added Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers to the mix along with Marty Stuart, Lindsay Buckingham, Flea and many others. The results were just as fantastic, adding a different dimension and fullness to the overall sound, but maintaining the mood and atmosphere that made American Recordings such a treasure. Songs written by Petty, Chris Cornell and Beck rub shoulders with a handful of Johnny originals. Warner.

Love, love, love it!! I love everything about Johnny Cash!! His last 10 years of work are by far my favorite and this album is one of one them!

I am not a fan of country music but I will make the exception with Johnny Cash who managed to transcend country music. I didn't really get into him until I heard American IV: The Man Comes Around with his haunting interpretation of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt". Since then I have made it a point to try to hear all of Johnny's work with Rick Rubin. I have to admit that "American IV" remains my personal favorite. Sadly to say "Unchained". I felt this album was not as strong as the last two albums Johnny did with Rick Rubin however it is not terrible as I might make it to be. I will say that on "Unchained" you can hear that Johnny was in better health. His voice is rich and full of life while the last two albums you can hear Johnny's exhaustion and grief (from the loss of his beloved June Carter Cash). The album does have plenty of songs that I liked. I think Johnny does a marvelous job at covering Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage". Just like "Hurt", he totally turns an alternative rock classic into a Johnny Cash song. Other favorites includes "Sea of Heartbreak", "Memories are Made of This", "Meet Me in Heaven", and "I've Been Everywhere". I wasn't too keen on "Rowboat", "Country Boy", and "I Never Picked Cotton". I just did not enjoy the melodies in those songs. Even though I consider "Unchained" my least favorite Johnny Cash cd w/Rick Rubin, it is still good and certainly a lot better than most country cds that are churned out day in and day out for public mass consumption.

Great! I think this is a great and anyone should buy it. it is really moving, and Tom Petty is simply wonderful supporting in some songs. The only one i didn't really like was Memories are Made of This. But other than that itis a must have

Though pleased overall with this recording i think it must be seen in relation to the other American Recordings with Rick Rubin I, III, IV & V
heard as a whole these recordings make John Cash a whole new reputation for a new audience. Please buy Unchained but dont let the opportunity go buy collect the other 4 and Cry Cry Cry

The debut of the young, classically trained international quintet of sopranos Jo Appleby and Tsakane Valentine, tenors David Habbin and Geoff Swell, and basso Nick Garret offers up a familiar take on the crossover formula that has enriched everyone from genre pioneers The Three Tenors to Russell Watson and beyond. While their occasionally electro-pumped rhythms and youth-angled marketing shtick ("The world's first opera band!") may borrow a page from Opera Babes and Bond, it still manages to evoke the spirit (if not the letter) of its eclectic classical sources. And if the world hasn't exactly been burning for yet another dramatized update of Turandot's melodic "Nessun Dorma," The Pearl Fishers, or--for that matter--"Unchained Melody," Amici Forever's takes on the pop side of the crossover equation are indeed promising, recasting Alex North's "Unchained.." ("Senza Catene") and their reworked theme to the miniseries Band of Brothers("Requiem for a Soldier") in a successful, neo-classical light. If Neopolitan-shaded originals like "Canto Alla Vita" and "Vita Mia" sound like Josh Groban clones, their glorious harmonic vocal reworkings of Faure's "Pavane" ("Whisper of Angels") and Elgar's "Enigma Variations" ("Nimrod: Lux Aeterna") bristle with an ambitious sense of adventure that's missing from much of their crossover competition. Serious opera buffs may still quarrel with the daring "impurity" of it all, but if Amici Forever prod a few more pimply punters to peruse Puccini, won't it all have been worth it? --Jerry McCulley

Bought the album after hearing someone talk about the group. Thought the voices were okay (baritone was the best) but in some songs didn't blend properly. Selection of pieces was interesting . . . pop, classical, opera. Good album for "background" music.

I first heard it at a shop that sells English products. I thought it was interesting to hear and decided to get the CD for myself. I find the chorus very relaxing especially the last song which nearly put me to sleep as I am doing my homework. Amici Forever is a good CD to listen to when you have nothing to do or to soothe your wracked nerves.

I've always enjoyed Great Wedding music and this album is no exception, but while reading some of the customer recommendations posted on this site I discovered a group by the name of MEHDl (pronounced medie). After an online search I found their site (S00THINGMUSIC,C0M) and listened to the samples...
I was instantly blown away by the quality of this music and so I gave it a try and now that I have listened to these CDs several times I really must say that although I'm still a Tomaso Albinoni fan of, I find MEHDl to be a great addition to this CD. I had them both in my multi-disc CD player during the wedding and love the way they compliment each other. I highly recommend that you give this artist a try or atleast just go listen to the samples, I have a feeling you'll be glad you did.

Highly recommended. Even has suggestions for pre-ceremony, processional, ceremony, and recessional inside. 2 different versions of Midsummer Night's Dream march included - one with trumpet and organ and one with a full orchestra. Lots of great selections, well recorded.

I used this cd to help me plan which songs I wanted to use for each part of the wedding. This cd helps you suggest the placement for the prelude, processional, ceremony and recessional. The cd mainly has classical songs, but it does have a few of "today's" songs. There could have been a few more songs they could have added. But overall, its a good cd.

This collection of movie themes, will allow you to relive the chilling experiences from practically all (4 CDs)of the great movies. Great movies would not be great without great music. The Cincinnati Pop with Eric Kunzel are unbeatable recordings. Every minute is more beautiful and inspiring to the next. If you love Pops music, this is the begin all, end all.

Okay, so I thought I was buying "Great Movie Love Themes." I was familiar with the list, so I thought I would be getting the perfect compilation of melodies. Wrong. This CD should be titled, "Great Movie End Credits Themes," because four of the 12 selections are End Credits music, the stuff no one wants to listen to as all the technical information rolls at the end ot a movie (you know, exit music). The trouble with End Credits is that few carry the actual love theme music or they carry only a small snippet. Most End Credits music is boring. "The English Patient," "Shakespeare in Love," "Sabrina," and "Braveheart," are all End Credits music. Don't expect to hear predominant love themes in these particular selections for which the movies are known.

On the plus side, "Unchained Melody," "Somewhere in Time," and "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini," are beautiful renditions. And the End Credits music for "Sabrina," is better than expected. I'd give "Unchained Melody," "Somewhere in Time," and "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini" five stars, "Sabrina" four stars and the other eight selections two stars.

Just be aware when you buy this album that you are not getting exactly what is described. You have to read the fine print on the back of the CD cover.

I really enjoy listening to CD for everything it has. The mixture of cinema movies makes it more likeable for they're films that most movie-goers will be able to relate to, in one way or another. Just say "Romeo and Juliet" and I'll think Nino Rota.
A personal favourite would have to be "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" (The Piano) but "Rose" (Titianic) follows close behind. The suite, "A Time For Us" (Romeo and Juliet) brings tears to my eyes and "Somewhere In Time" is a lovely ballad. For any other lovers of romance, whether it be in movies or in music, this is one cd that you are sure to like.

As someone who works from home, this is a wonderful collection to put on during the day. The beautiful arrangements of some of film's most memorable music is a treat to listen to day in and day out. I was one of those looking for music from the "Cousins" soundtrack. I'm so much happier to have found this CD with more great music than I could've bargained for. I'm very glad to have this in my collection!

I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THE SOUNDTRACK OF COUSINS... I KNOW BUT HEY I LOVED THE MOVIE AND WHEN I REALIZE THAT THE SOUNDTRACK WAS BEEN ASK $120 I JUST WENT NUTS LOL LOL BUT I WENT ON MY SEARCH AND FOUND THIS GREAT GREAT GREAT CD, THAT HAS THE SONGS I WAS SEARCHING FOR AND MORE.

FOR EXAMPLE, CAVATINA FROM THE DEER HUNTER, HMM GREAT MOVIE AND GREAT SONG. AND LETS NOT FORGET THE WAY WE WERE, COME ON THAT IS A CLASSIC. AND ITS HAS THE THEME FROM THE MOVIE ON GOLDEN POND, ALSO UNCHAINED MELODY FROM THE MOVIE GHOST.

BUT WHAT TOOK MY OFF MY SIT WAS THE SONG *WE ARE LOOSING HIM, FROM THE MOVIE SOMEWHERE IN TIME. LOOK THIS IS A GREAT CD, AND IT IS WORTH ALL.

I HAVE ALL THE SONGS I EVER WANTED AND MORE. BELIEVE ME YOU ME, IT IS A GREAT BARGAIN. WONT BE DISSAPOINTED.

This was an impulse purchase, and like other reviewers I've been regretting my haste. Not only would my fellow reviewers have saved me the eight bucks I spent on this, I have an excellent source that would have warned me as well. I have a copy of Pat Downey's THE GOLDEN AGE OF TOP 40 MUSIC ON COMPACT DISC. It's already failry dated (it was published in 1992), but here's what it has to say about UNCHAINED MELODY (Curb 77381):

"Unchained Melody": This is a rerecoding.

"You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'": This is the original. [At least the book SAYS it is, but it obviously is not!]

"(You're My) Soul and Inspiration": It does not say it is a rerecording, but it notes that it is 15 seconds longer than either the original 45 or LP version. [However, it should be noted that it says this longer version also appears on the Verve VERY BEST OF and Rhino ANTHOLOGY collections as well.]

"Ebb Tide": This is a rerecording.

"Just Once in My Life": This is a rerecording.

Bottom line? These are certainly competent renditions of some of The Righteous Brothers biggest hits. However, if you're looking for the originals, save your money and look elsewhere.

Definately not the originals for the hits, ('lovin' feeling', 'unchained melody') however I think the versions of "Soul and Inspiration" and "Georgia" are great. For the price, it's not bad! :)

I love the "Unchained Melody" song, so I decided to buy this CD- and then I kind of regretted it, because it was not the same recording as on the movie GHOST. As one of the previous reviewers wrote, "Don't purchase, unless you have to have all of the recordings."

I received this CD as gift and was very eager to hear the original hits as I remember them. As I listened, I realized that the songs had been re-recorded with slightly different arrangements. Major disappointment! The only redeeming feature is that it still is Bill Medley and Bobbie Hatfield. If only they let these classics remain as they were...

If you're trying to collect the whole Al Green discography of original albums, as I am, you might not immediately recognize that this is a compilation disc--a very important fact! As far as the music itself, it's classic; it's wonderful.

i have already burned out 2 cassette versions of unchained melody
that i purchased at the gas station of all places...i know GOD wanted to make me smile when i found al green's 'unchained melody' on cd!!!!! THE PRICE IS UNBELIEVEABLE and his sweet...etheral versions of these covers have me rocking in my chair and hitting the repeat button over and over...i remember listening to the cassettes nonstop all night long and on the way home...the al green has given these covers an uplifting, goespel and country & western feel and you still cannot get enough...what artist today or in the past can do this...this is to me is the ulitmate favorite al green selection...a super value
at that...it is a very beautiful album...no hooting, schreeching and hollering all over the place...just sweet...soothing...soothing al green interpretations of these timeless classics...did God bless him or what? AND he blessed us by letting this wonderful music reach the world...

This Cd is awesome. This CD has some much feeling, that it is unreal. The song unchained melody is outstanding. This CD to me is the bomb. I wouldn't trade this CD for anything in the world. Al Green truly outdone himself.

Yes, this CD is comprised of remakes, but Al puts all of the original artists to shame. The most interesting song is perhaps Al's version of Light My Fire by The Doors. One of my favorite Green CDs.
