Awesome music!.......2007-03-16
Telling people I'm listening to Iron Maiden often gets an odd reaction. A raised eyebrow, a curious laugh or some other tick tells me that the other person has never enjoyed the heavy bass and thumping rock beat of an Iron Maiden tune. One good listen will teach you that Iron Maiden is more than just a thumping head banger's band. This band weaves music with such power and energy, it's hard not to get sucked into the excitement. This album is for anyone who enjoys letting the music raise their spirits and energize their souls.
Best Live Album EVER.......2007-01-20
not just the best Maiden live cd, or the best live metal performance, it's literally the best live cd ever made. it makes for an incredible greatest hits-type collection(from the time when Iron Maiden was creating the amazing legacy that made them who they are), the sound quality is perfect, there's a LOT of music on it, and it even has great artwork and a lot of tour information, including pictures, and equipment used. the only thing that would have made it better would be to have had Paul sing on songs from the first two albums.
Iron Maiden's best live album from their best tour.......2006-11-21
THE BAND: Bruce Dickinson (vocals), Steve Harris (bass), Dave Murray (guitar), Adrian Smith (guitar), Nicko McBrain (drums).
THE DISC: (1985) Originally 12 tracks (approximately 71 minutes) on one disc when first released on Capital. This digitally remastered edition (2002) gives you two discs containing all 17 tracks that came on the original vinyl album (an additional 25+ minutes). Disc-2 also features 4 multimedia tracks for your PC. Included with the discs is a 26-page booklet containing many band pictures, song titles/credits, song lyrics, tour dates and cities along the 'The World Slavery Tour 84/85', music equipment used on the tour, the band's catalogue of albums, band history, a 1-page intro to the live recording itself from producer Martin Birch, and thank you's. Recorded at Long Beach Arena over 4 nights (March 14-17, 1984). Cover art by the one and only Derek Riggs. Label (2002 edition) - Sanctuary Maiden.
COMMENTS: Trade in your original "Live After Death" disc for the remastered 2-disc set. It's criminal that Capital was able to release this on disc back in the late 80's with only 12 of the 17 songs that were on the original vinyl record. I mean, can you imagine Casablanca releasing Kiss' "Alive!" minus the last 5 songs because they wanted to fit it all on one disc? Thankfully, Sanctuary Maiden gave this legendary recording the (digitally) remastered touch and full length treatment it deserves. Looking back over the decades, there's a handful of 'live' rock recordings that can rightfully sit at the top - Deep Purple's "Made In Japan", UFO's "Strangers In The Night", Peter Frampton's "Frampton Comes Alive", Kiss' "Alive!", Rush's "All The World's A Stage"... and Iron Maiden's "Live After Death". Iron Maiden's gem here easily stands out as one of the best metal 'live' recordings of the 80's (all the 'live' albums mentioned here happen to be from the 70's with the exception of Iron Maiden's). I also think it's Maiden's best 'live' album (out of several to choose from - "A Real Live One", "A Real Dead One", "Live At Donnington", "Death On The Road", and "Rock In Rio")... and easily from their best tour. The classic songs are all here... "Aces High", "2 Minutes To Midnight", "The Trooper", "The Number Of The Beast", "Powerslave", "Revelations", "22 Acacia Ave", "Run To The Hills", and the lengthy "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner". Bruce Dickinson puts his own signature touch on the old Paul Di'anno songs ("Wrathchild", "Running Free", Phantom Of The Opera" and "Iron Maiden")... while these are all good, Di'anno songs are still best sung by Di'Anno. This is a classic metal album by a British metal band in top form on their best tour (5 stars).
Bruce Dickinson's last great tour.......2006-09-04
The World Slavery Tour, which spanned over the better part of a year, marked the peak of Iron Maiden's live shows. While they went on to create more elaborate stage sets in their two subsequent tours, the World Slavery Tour clearly marked the height of their cohesiveness as a live band.
The discs contain a mixture of shows from Long Beach Arena recorded in 1985, along with 5 songs recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1984 on the European leg of the tour. The set focuses on the "Powerslave" album, which they were supporting at the time, and the band is in fine form on the material. They also play 4 songs off "Piece of Mind", and it's refreshing to hear Bruce Dickinson actually nail all his notes without much effort. Ditto with the material off "The Number of the Beast" (has '22 Acacia Avenue' ever sounded this good?), and a few tracks from "Killers" and "Iron Maiden" thrown in for good measure ('Phantom of the Opera' being the clear highlight).
As I stated above, the main reason to get this album is to hear how tight Maiden is on the material, and how youthful and enthusiastic they sound. Martin Birch's producing of this album blows away anything they have done since (Rock in Rio is an improvement, although not as much as you would think, considering it was done about 20 years later). This is also Dickinson's last great tour, vocal-wise, as he nails every note that we have come to associate with these great songs. A little flat in some spots, but awesome overall. Alas, the constant touring would finally take its toll on Dickinson's pipes, as he would never sound this good again on subsequent tours (anyone who's had a chance to listen to any bootlegs off the "Somewhere in Time" tour can attest to the fact that Dickinson sounds winded and tired, almost to the point where he speaks his lines in certain songs instead of singing them, and he's only gone downhill from there).
The double-CD does not contain a few live tracks that were available on the b-sides of the two singles released in 1985 ('Los'fer Words', which blows away the album version; 'Sanctuary', which they actually encored with on the tour; and an unbelievable version of 'Murders in the Rue Morgue', from Hammersmith in 1984). One would think that with the extra space available on the second disc, these tracks could have been included. Unfortunately, the only way to have them is to find copies of the singles, which I fortunately picked up on vinyl when they originally came out (not to date myself here, but.....)
In any case, "Live After Death" is a MUST-OWN in every sense of the word. I don't think there has ever been a better live recording before or since, and who knows, there may never be......
Maiden's Best Live Album By Far.......2006-08-24
Two words best describes what we have here, Their Best!!!!
This live offering has everything a Maiden fan could want, power, passion and pain along with the glory of the band flying high on the road following the massive success of the Powerslave release. This release contains old school Maiden and the song selection is top notch. I actually saw this tour back in 85 and I have fond memories (from what I can remember!) of this show. From the get go it storms out all guns blazing and never looks back. Everybody's in fine form and it shows up here with an energy that just oozes out of your speakers.
Yup it's all here and it's all good.
I love it!!

In the live arena, heavy metal can be implausibly powerful; it can rattle teeth from gums, set ears ringing like the clappers of doom, and, when concocted by the gentlemen of Iron Maiden, virtually fracture your skull. This packed double-disc set, recorded during the band's extensive World Slavery jaunt of 1984 and '85, is the awesome, irrefutable proof of Maiden's power. Expertly hewn slabs of solid rock carefully concocted in recording studios are all very well, but "The Number of the Beast" and "Run to the Hills" are simply made to be blasted through 152,000 watts of PA system by five young men with undiluted testosterone pulsing through their bulging, whiplash veins. Bruce Dickinson's astounding lung capacity is terrifying at times, while the band are virtually aflame. --Ian Fortnam

THE GREATEST LIVE METAL LP OF ALL TIME!!!.......2003-01-17
I've ALWAYS considered this the greatest live metal release of all time. I don't care what other band you can name, live metal doesn't get (or sound) as good as this, ever. I remember way back when this actually came out, I'm that old!, on Halloween, walking into the record store and seeing a massive wall of Live after Death albums (yes, back when there were records!) all out on display. And what a display! Maiden has always come through with their cover art. You can never get tired of Eddie artwork. I'm a power/melodic metal freak, and have also maintained that Maiden was the first true, power metal band. Hearing them live on here, just blows you away. I don't think there's one night since this came out, when I've chosen to play it, that I didn't have to hear the whole thing: you can't just slap on 5 songs on this and flick over to another disc; you have to hear it in its entirety. If you don't own this, or are a new Maiden fan and want to hear the best musicians in this genre live, at the height of there career back then, then get this immediately! I'd give a 20 star rating if it went that high. ***** 5 STAR LIVE METAL LOUDNESS RATING! Cheers from Scraggy's Tomb! PS... and when you play this, play it the way it was meant to be played: LOUD!!!!!!!
very good live album.......2002-07-12
By the release of this album, 1985, iron maiden were, via the release of Powerslave (1984), the biggest metal band on the planet. live after death captures the power of the band at their peak. From the untro of churchill's speak leading to the rat ta tat of aces high to the extended version of running free which closes the album it does not let up. the track listing leans towards peice of mind and powerslave with eleven out of the eighteen tracks coming from those albums. the majority of the songs are delivered faster than the originals. Special mention must be made be of possibly definitive versions of hallowed by thy name and powerslave. musically the band is on top form which is to be expected considering the length of the world slavery tour which the album is taken from (August 1984 to July 1985). The lung capacity of the bruce dickinson is quite frankly amazing, but his intersong banter is rather odd, for example, his introduction to the rime of the anicent mariner. however the version of the song which they deliver is very good as well as being atmospheric. for a defintive example of maiden live this album has yet to be surpassed
Sanctuary!.......2002-02-15
To me, this album has special meaning, as it was the first metal album I ever bought - it was back in 1986, the month that "Master of Puppets" was released, and I was [drawn] into several years of heavy metal addiction when I was only 13...!
Sound, performance and songwriting on this album are really awesome - Iron Maiden until 1986 (including "Somewhere in Time", excluding "7th Son of a 7th Son") are probably the most CLASSICAL act in Heavy Metal, the one that can't be missed. Since then, the band has continued to expire their creative energy, relying heavily on recycling ideas from ten years ago although the ones from twenty years ago were far superior. Sometimes I think they should listen to their old albums from time to time just to see how imaginative they were then and how many brilliant songwriting tricks they never used again...!
And here is a suggestion to EMI: It is a great idea to include the beautiful Hammersmith Odeon tracks, which were always missing on the CD version. However, the climax of their concerts on the "World Slavery Tour" (and the last of several sets of encores) was "Sanctuary". A live version from this tour was published on the B-side of the "Running Free" single and is probably the band's most powerful and frenetic live recording EVER (possibly, of ANY other band as well). So, wouldn't it be great to include this amazing piece as a final song?
You Must Buy This CD.......2002-01-26
Would you like to see the foundations for modern metal?
Are you sick of the same "NuMetal" sound from band after band?
Have you have ever wanted to give Iron Maiden a spin on your CD player but didn't want your friends to mock your "80s hair metal crap"?
I've got news for you, my friend - your mocking friends can go @&*$ themselves.
I'm in my mid 20s and have just recently discovered the joys of Maiden and I will never look back (or forward, I guess)
This Album contains a must have best-of record of the first 5 Iron Maiden Albums which, live, are presented sometimes better than the original album cuts (especially the songs from the first 2 albums which although really good to begin with while Paul Di'Anno was the singer absolutely shine with Bruce "Air Raid Siren" Dickenson at the helm)
If you love hard music and don't care what others think of your musical tastes - buy this - and then buy it again - and then recommend it to friends
Musical trends are for losers - buy this, then buy "Madonna GHV2" or "The Immaculate Collection" like I did.
Depeche Mode - Metallica - Crystal Method - Johnny Cash - AC/DC
Rock Hard, Baby!!
ALIVE!.......2001-12-10
The release of this live album showed what Iron Maiden was really about. This is in my opinion the best live album with Iron Maiden ever, and one of the best live albums, by any band ever. This was recorded back when Iron Maiden were THE guys in heavy metal, they stood second to none, and this album truly catches their spirit alive.
The selection of tracks is a near perfect, it gives a great idea of the spectrum of their production(at that point) and most of their classics are there, including unbeatable versions of Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Hallowed Be Thy Name, both actualy much better than the studio recordings. What really makes this album is the feel of the audience, you can tell that Iron Maiden really got them involved and that both parts thinks this is a blast. That is the way concerts are supposed to be. Bruce is not singing to TO the audience he is singing FOR them.
Even though this is a live album and thus does not offer up any new tracks I would still consider it one of the finest Iron Maiden albums of all time, and a landmark for heavy metal in the 80's,

Recorded during the band's 1985 world tour to support the band's most ambitious album Powerslave, Live After Death captures Iron Maiden at their heaviest, hungriest, and most proficient. Guitarists Dave Murray and Adrian Smith are perfectly in synch, each fueling the other's wailing solos, and vocalist Bruce Dickinson has never sounded more pumped and focused. Rhythmically, bassist Steve Harris and drummer Nicko McBrain play with flair and precision, propelling the band through galloping versions of all their classics. There's not a weak spot on the disc, but the highlights are "2 Minutes to Midnight," "Flight of Icarus," "The Trooper," "Run to the Hills" and "Rime of the Ancient Mariner." If you're only going to pick up one Iron Maiden record, make sure this is it. --Jon Wiederhorn

MASTERPIECE.......2004-10-09
As live albums go there are few better than this, by any band. Live after Death is undoubtedly the best live maiden album. The whole album is dramatic and intense. The album opens with Churchills famous war speech and launches into a brilliant rendition of Aces High. Ripping live solos and bass lines make many of these maiden songs far superior to the studio versions -songs such as Hallowed be thy name - a live classic and even the flight of icarus - a song i wasnt hugely keen on wen i heard it on piece of mind, sound passionate and intense on this album.
One gripe with this album is Bruce Dickinsons versions of Di'annos songs - and also a slightly disapointing version of the trooper. other than that a true masterpiece

The exploits of Ian Fleming's British super-agent James Bond have long since become the longest running film series in history, spanning 40 years and counting. Not the least of the cycle's charm has been its music, a body of work that encompasses pop clichés (the twangy guitar of Monty Norman's original "James Bond Theme") and elegant underscores alike. While this collection spans music from Dr. No to The World Is Not Enough, decades of various legal entanglements prevented it from becoming the ultimate Bond music anthology. This is more a credible simulation, a newly recorded collection of cues and suites (including music previously unreleased on the original soundtracks) performed by Nic Raine and the City of Prague Symphony Orchestra. With John Barry's lush, ever-evocative scores both forming the core and setting the tone (but also featuring the work of George Martin, David Arnold, Michael Kamen, Bill Conti, and Eric Serra), it's the most comprehensive--if not exactly authentic--collection of Bond music yet attempted. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
almost the perfect James Bond collection.......2005-07-20
this 4 CD box has most of the familiar James Bond compositions.
Still, some tunes are missing(from for instance Thunderball and For Your Eyes Only)and most of the time the attention is on the instrumental version of the title track which is a bit of a shame. And yet, there are too many great pieces on this collection to make it a failure.Alpine Drive,Dawn Raid at Fort Knox,On Her Majesty's Secret Service(every track),Miss Goodhead and so on.All great pieces that not only show the great talent of John Barry but also the great power of James Bond films.Cause when you hear the music, you see the scenes in front of you.
Very much a recommendation to all Bond and Barry fans although sometimes it focusses too much on title songs. The only solution is to buy all separate soundtracks.
Good Collection.......2005-02-24
Very nice packaging and good tracks from the Bond music library make this an anoutstanding item. "From Russia With Love" and "Diamonds Are Forever" contain beautiful and energetic renditions. The John Barry music is handled quite well. I didn't real care for the David Arnold selections. "The World Is Not Enough" was weak. Overall it is a good collection just the same.
Not excatly what I expected.......2003-04-10
I when I read some of the reviews of this I thought that this was a complete collection of all the originals of the Theme songs of every James Bond movie and remakes done by the Prague Philharmonic of some of the other songs in the various movies. After recieveing this ... I started to listen to it and found out that it was all done by the orchestra. The are very good, but to a point it is not the same thing as owning a disc will all the orignal songs on it. Overall, this good if all the you want is the orchestral versions of most of the songs in the movies or the suites out of some of the movies. To a point these don't compare to the orignals. Keep looking if you want a set with all the orignals songs in it.
The James Bond CD for the John Barry purist?.......2003-01-28
Let's cut to the chase. Nic Raine and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do John Barry's work justice. 90% of this collection is as close as you can get to the original James Bond soundtracks. The other 10% lends itself to some artistic license with respect to the arrangements. Most notable is the main theme to Goldfinger. Also Nic slips in a few previously unreleased tracks. You will find these on the On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Golden Eye tracks. This CD boxed set is definitely made for the Bond soundtrack fan. The die hard John Barry "purist"/ traditionalist may find some of these tracks questionable at first, but after a few times Nic Raine's artistic license gives a fresh perspective to the familiar Bond/ Barry themes. The only reservation I have with this CD set is with some of selections that are performed. For instance, from Goldfinger, "Dawn Raid At Fort Knox" was a poor selection considering the selection available on that particular soundtrack. The most famous 007 soundtrack of all I dare say. Overall Nic hits the mark, and this CD set is a tribute to Barry's (as well as, George Martin's, Marvin Hamlish's, and Bill Conti's and David Arnold's) work. It's all here in one collection. I am a die-hard Bond soundtrack fan, and to the casual soundtrack fan I say this CD is set all you need to experience the Bond music legacy. To those who are hard core 007 soundtrack fans ...this is a FANTASTIC "addition" to your collection. This has to be the BEST (and probably the only) 007 "soundtrack" compilation. Whereas all the others feature the "main themes" from the Bond films as originally recorded, this one truly gives you the Bond experience.
Very enjoyable with most of the BOND music you'd want........2002-12-08
This is similar but more comprehensive than another BOND collection on one CD by the City of Prague Philharmonic. These are good renditions but clearly not the orginals. I must ask if the Prague Philharmonic does not own a harp? It is glaringly missing in the Goldfinger themes and i am sure on others. That harp is an exciting and beautiful touch to the wonderful GOLDFINGER theme and its absents is unfortuneatly very noticeable. Also some of the other themes can even sound muzaky if thats a word(elevator music)
It gets 3 solid stars good collection yet defineatly something is lacking.

LEGENDARY ALBUM.......2003-02-14
This is the real and original LIVE AFTER DEATH album. It contains the original LP Art and a complete booklet of the 84-85 Tour. The songs are the identical versions of the original LP. This album includes the long version of Running Free and also includes (enhaced)videos, bios and others. But the most important thing is the music, Iron Maiden is the best band of all times playing alive and this is the best live album ever made. You feel your in the crowd. Sound quality is perfect. All songs included are great( 5 stars) but I give 6 stars( Can I? ) to: Revelations, The Rime..,Running Free and Phantom of the Opera(7 starts"#$??)Yeah 7 !!!. Up the Irons.
THE Version of Live After Death to have.......2002-05-27
Forget that 70 minute one, forget the 2-disc 1998 one, forget the cassette one, THIS is what you need (Unless you have a record player, then you NEED the original vinyl). This is an EXACT (Albiet scaled down) version of the Vinyl Gatefold. comes with 2 discs, whose sleeves are identical to the record, and even have the lyrics printed really tiny on the back. This is truely amazing, and comes with the most stuff i've seen from a live record of any kind.. comes with the original booklet as well as the remaster booklet, and the 2nd disc is enhanced, with side 4 from the record, as well as videos and pictures and all that great stuff.
Enough about how much better it is then the other versions, which you dont care about if you've never heard it. if you havent, it's just amazing. the sound quality is excellent and the crowd is amazing. it's especially cool on Running Free the way Bruce gets involved w/ the crowd. It's more or less the only live album you really need.. from any band. Words just cant describe the sound quality, musicianship or expeirence of just listneing to it. you need this now, or You're not a Maiden fan.
Finally!!! The REAL Live After Death on CD!!!.......2002-04-11
I have been waiting for this disc forever. The entire, LP length, Live After Death. Including the long version of Running Free AND the Hammersmith cuts. This is the only way to own Live After Death (other than the album of course). If you have a copy missing Side 4 or without the extended Running Free then you don't really own Live After Death. Buy it!!!!!
