5 out of 5 stars Makes me feel closer to everyone... .......2007-05-30

When my husband deploys, I feel alone, scared and yes worried.. As a military wife you usually aren't allowed to admit that.. :) This cd is amazing... I love it and it makes him being gone a lot easier.. I don't care what anyone says... We are in the right fight.. at the right time with the right President. I don't like him being gone.. But its worth it.. This CD makes me feel patriotic.. it tugs at my heartstrings.. makes me smile.. I can imagine driving with Private Andrew Malone.. I can feel proud to be an American... I can cry over "I'm already there.." All the songs make me smile... So yes.. worth every penny and more!!!
God Bless America!!!

1 out of 5 stars Nashville hacks singing for faux-patriotism.......2005-12-23

Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Lonestar, Martina McBride, Montgomery Gentry, Aaron Tippin, Lee Greenwood, Neal McCoy, Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, Phil Vassar, The Warren Brothers, Dusty Drake, Hank Williams Jr., Alabama, The Charlie Daniels Band, David Ball, and Blackhawk.

What do these artists have in common? Cutting edge musical geniuses? Gifted songwriters able to speak to a wide range of audiences? Innovators in their genre?

Err, no.

Actually what they all have in common is that they all appear on this package, created to commercially exploit the war on terrorism, one which contains songs like Where The Stars And Stripes And The Eagle Fly, This Ain't No Rag, It's A Flag, and Back Where I Come From. In other words, maudlin, xenophobic, cliche filled, black/white dichotomous sentiments, and the lack of any attempt at rational or questioning political analysis, all set to fiddles and pedal steel guitars, and to be marketed and sold at Wal-Mart. I should add that I am not against patriotism, when it is intelligent and well informed; this, however, is dumb, reactionary faux-patriotism. Nothing is more so than the song God Bless the USA. As an American who loves his country, I can say that this song, with its syrupy sound and its naive lyrics, does not speak for me.

I listened to a bit of this schlock on a plane ride a while back just to see how much of it I could take. The answer was - not very much. What little I could take made me want to drink, and heavily.

Some of these performers, specifically Brooks and Dunn, Randy Travis, Charlie Daniels, and perhaps Kenny Chesney and even (I hate to admit) Toby Keith are actually fairly talented; others, like former lounge singer Lee Greenwood, Alabama, Montgomery Gentry, etc, are 3rd rate musical hacks.

Ultimately, listening to this nonsense, I'm reminded that some of the greats of the genre, like Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, George Jones, and Willie Nelson were neither knee-jerk
reactionaries nor apologists for a ruling political party. Then again, Dusty Drake, Montgomery Gentry, and Blackhawk are no Johnny Cashes. Just Nashville hacks, soon to be forgotten.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2005-08-21

It is a great CD. If you like country music, this is a great buy. Not all the songs are about America, but make you feel good and proud of where you come from.

NOTE: Most of the bad reviews below have to more with politics than music. These folks probably have never listened to all the songs let alone actually buying the CD.

4 out of 5 stars To to a kids review.......2005-07-31

"would like to say that this is a great cd and I love it when people write reviews like the one written on Dec. 21, 2004 titled (One of the worst cds ever). People like you make me sick, first you don't use your real name (like your a terrorist wearing a hood), next you play it off like a kid wrote that review, very cowardly. "

I'll tell you I'm a kid (age 16) and some don't want to use their real name because this is the internet, not real life. If you knew my name or the original reviewer's real name, would that make any difference? Anywa, you say since a reviewer doesn't use their real name, they are a terrorist? Very intelligent.

"If your home is destroyed by someone, you are not going to look for the people or person involved. No you are going to the proper authorities and they will handle it.

That is what happened here. We were attacked and the proper authorities are handling the situation."

We were not attacked by Iraq and the proper authorities are not handling the situation. We attacked Afghanistan, but Iraq has nothing to do with this.

"Look I am all for freedom for imagrant's but they took it to far with the attacks. Living in our country, working here, becoming friendly with the neighborhoods and gaining the trust of everyone around just to destroy part of the country you love (so you say) is just something that cannot be tolerated. At least we had the guts to tell them we were coming. You should be thankful that you have a country who is willing to protect you and your family. "

So you think it's immigrants fault that we were attacked? And you call yourself an American? You should be blind to race and country of origin, we are all Americans here. The country of Afghanistan attacked us and we went after them, that has nothing to do with immigrants.

"Right after 9/11 happened EVERYONE was togther as a whole to make sure the people behind this act of cowardly violence (kind of like the way you wrote your rewiew) and any kind of terroristic threats on U.S.A. would never happen again. But I guess for some of you people that was just like hopping on the band wagon for a short period of time."

It was not cowardly violence. In a war you strive to kill the most enemies you can. I would only Hope the US would strive to kill or detain as many terrorists as they can just as their target was civilians. Whatever you say, suicide bombings are not cowardly, they are actually pretty effective. Find me a US citizen willing to fly a plane into a building full of terrorists to kill our enemies.

"It's not a matter of what song's are good to listen to and what songs aren't. It's about a bunch of people who support the country (they love) so they can feel safe to go shopping, go to work or just go for a walk and not have to worry about some idiot flying a couple of planes into some building's or into the ground and never see their loved ones or the light of day ever again."

Ah, back to the actual review of the CD, which you have made a minor detail. I don't care about what these singers support, I care about their music. I care about what politicians support, and how singers sing. I happen to like many of the songs on the CD, but I didn't buy it because I own many of the songs already.

"How can you say you love something if you are going to let it get hurt and not try to justify the situation. I feel sorry for the people in your life."

Well more people are in car crashes every year than were in the WTC during 9/11, so you should be pushing for safety in cars. How can you say you love something if you are going to let it get hurt and not try to justify the situation? Of course you are a very effective tool of the terrorists, the typical American scared out of his pants when a building goes down, scared to shop, when you are in more danger driving your car. We have killed over 10 times the ammount of CIVILIANS in Iraq (nothing to do with 9/11) than the 9/11 attacks killed. Of course I'm sure they aren't people to you.

But back to the CD, I am really thinking about buying it mainly just for "Hey Mr. President" and I'm dissapointed they didn't put it on another CD, I love the song and the Warren Brothers.

Most of the songs are really great, although "God Bless The USA" was overplayed and I used to love it, but now I'm just tired of it. All of these songs are great, although some don't even seem to be patriotic. But that doesn't matter to me, because great music is great music, which is worth buying.

5 out of 5 stars Pavarotti and friends.......2003-11-14

A wonderful eclectic compilation. A bold step for Luciano that works! Very easy listening.

4 out of 5 stars great, but..........2003-06-16

the neville brothers don't belong here. they have fake voices that were made by marketing people. pavarotti has a voice trained over the years with tremendous preparation and hours and hours of classical training and lessons. it's like putting gary matthews jr. on a hitting show with ted williams. a big joke. but everyone else is great.

5 out of 5 stars Verry fun and risky but it worked.......2002-02-07

Pop stars with Opera singers, who would of thought. But it worls well. This CD is fun and has some wonderful proformances. Sting and Pav are very good together on Pania Angelicus. Sting is also good with Zucchero on Muoio Per TE. This CD sounds wonderful and is a must have for the fans of Pav, Sting, Kaas, May, Succhero, at all.

1 out of 5 stars I don't think so.......2000-12-31

This is not what I expected. I only like "La donne mobile." My mom only liked "Caruso" and "Panis Angelicus." This is not like the second on or the one for Bosnia. Those rocked.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic album...the 1st in a wonderful series.......2000-12-14

This is the first cd in the Pavarotti and Friends series which benefits charities. The wonderful thing about them, is the mix of genres. And this one is no exception. Listen to Sting sing with Pavarotti on the beautiful 'Panis Angelicus', and 'La Donna e Mobile'. Who would have thought of pairing those two together. But it works with breathtaking magic. Just look at the list of artists on this disc and the songs performed. There really is something for every taste. From operatic songs to rock. I love this series, and highly recommend them to all music lovers.

2 out of 5 stars not to great.......2007-04-04

We were disappointed with this CD, but for the price I guess we can't expect much. I didn't care for the new style presentation of the songs. I like a more traditional rendering.

3 out of 5 stars Not so bad, 100 tunes for 4$.......2005-06-22

I red the comments of two other people who have bought this 4 CD BOX SET and it is not really so bad. I will even add that there are some excellent tunes. However, I must agree with the fact that few tunes seem to have been recorded 40 or 50 years ago, mainly when you hear the scratches of an old turntable but it is just 2 or 3 tunes. Furthermore, if you do not know American music, it is a good BOX SET to buy if you consider that you received 4 CD for 4$ including 100 tunes. On these 4 CD, I have heard some orchestration that I have never heard before and I consider that they are different but interesting. Any way, after hearing these 100 tunes, you will say to yourself that you like this tune, this other tune, this other tune and so on and you will be able to buy a more expensive CD with the tunes that you like. However, I have bought many CDs in the last few weeks and as you know, there are always some tunes that you like and some tunes that you do not like on every CD that you will buy. So, don't buy it at 25$ but at 4 or 5$ dollars, it is a very good choice for 100 tunes.

1 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for........2004-07-04

You get what you pay for. The singers put their own spin on the singing of each song. If you didn't hear the words you would not recognize some of them. Even some of the music sounds like a bad recording of music played on a turntable. Definitely not worth the price.

1 out of 5 stars Now I know why there were no song samples to listen to ..........2004-07-04

I wish this review had been here when I was thinking of purchasing it. I guess you get what you pay for. If you are thinking of buying this, you are better off recording your own CDs (or at least buying one that you can listen to a sampling of the songs). This album includes songs that were mere recordings of the songs playing on an old record player. It's almost so unbelievable that it is funny.

4 out of 5 stars The Only Real Metal Chick back Then! .......2006-11-29

Ok their were a few others i.e Lita Ford, but not many!!

Lee Aaron was one of a few females who could bring it metal wise when the metal scene was mostly dominated by men. Today of course it's a different story with tons of metal bands featuring chick singers.

Anyway my point is this, this cd is full of metal clichés, but it still is a good listen even if it's a somewhat dated sound now. It's basic metal at it's best and their nothing wrong with that. The songs have meaning to them, even if their are a little lame at times (remember it's metal, not brain surgery here).

The music is pretty good overall, nothing fancy but it's played nicely with lots of clean full power chords and cool leads here and there. The bass and drums are your typical 80's metal deal here. Lots of support, but no stepping out and going "look at me". Again theirs nothing wrong with that either and it really pushes this cd along in a nice way. The recording sounds full and fat with every note coming through loud and clear. It good old style metal at it's best really.

Lee sings Jazz now from what I've heard, I guess she's all grown up now?

Oh well, she was the Metal Queen once and I guess I can only dream of those live shows now. I have to say she rocked pretty darn hard for a nice girl and I miss her.

Love the Mrs. Aaron or is it Ms. Aaron?

2 out of 5 stars Cookie cutter metal.......2004-02-16

I really wish I could rate higher but there is no imagination with this cd...it is everything one can hate about the 80's.I think a 13 yr old could write better lyrics. Don't waste your money, not even for nostalgia sake, and lets hope she fares better at jazz as she has a great voice.

3 out of 5 stars Beautiful Voice, Lame Lyrics.......2003-03-15

I'm giving this CD 3 stars only because of Lee's very awesome voice. It's actually really sad to here a beautiful voice that can rock with such horrid, lame lyrics. There's not one song on this CD that I can relate to . . what a waste of money. If you really want to listen to a woman who rocks and has outstanding lyrics, check out anything by Doro Pesch, esp. the CD "Doro" and her most recent "Fight."

      4 out of 5 stars A ROCKING THRILL.........2001-10-29

Lee Aaron `s second album,Metal queen,is an album
filled with great old rock songs, wich she carries out with an enormous vocal capasity.
For those out there who love classic hard rock, this is strongly
      recomended.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome metal music.......1999-02-14

This is a awesome album with a very tight playing band fronted by one of the best female vocalists there is. Her voice is that of a angel. This album is a must have for any body who like bands like the Headpins, Christy Steel or other of this style. Lee has made lots of great albums and this is a shining example of her early work. And the cover is a beautiful shot of this incrediabely beautiful lady.

Lee Aaron has a lot of energy with her songs on this CD. She sassy and knows all the right excuses. I enjoy her music. She's slipped into the quiet life now somewhere in BC as a Piano Bar singer...last I heard. Will she make another?

        5 out of 5 stars A Classic. Lee's 1st album and its great.......2005-10-01

I really enjoyed this album. Yeah its total 80's but its awsome. Under You Spell is the best song and its great. Basically the whole album is great. Definatly check it out.

2 out of 5 stars Lee Aaron = Pat Benatar Wannabe.......2003-02-14

        Bleh.

This album was loaned to me by a friend who said that I, as a longtime headbanger and goth rocker, just had to check it out. So i borrowed it, spun it... and shut it off halfway through.

I fail to understand the whole paradigm driving Lee's work. A Canadian with a voice like a country singer belting out heavy metal songs about Texas outlaws? This makes no sense. Her voice is beautiful, but lacks real passion, snarl or heavy metal fire. The band is not much better: strictly formulaic 80s pop metal, with predictable song structures and vanilla lead guitar riffs.

I used to wonder what would happen if Pat Benatar hooked up with a real heavy metal band & let it rip. If this is the answer, forget I asked the question.

I hope Lee's subsequent albums were better. Much better.

        Bleh.
