About the Artist
Vomitory was formed in 1989 by guitarist Urban Gustafsson. Under the influence of the growing underground scene and bands such as Sodom, Napalm Death, Slayer and Venom, they spread their name in the worldwide underground scene by releasing some demos in the early nineties. This year 2004 marks 15 years of existence for Vomitory, and the band is proud to announce the release of their new album, "Primal Massacre", and a European tour during the year. "Primal Massacre" was recorded in December 2003 at Studio Kuling in Vrebro/Sweden. Long time companion Henrik Larsson supervised the recording process and the album was mixed and mastered at Berno Studio. It contains 10 non-compromising death metal anthems and Juan Castellano created its artwork.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2006-08-22

Vomitory is sometimes called one of the "generic" death metal bands and though there are some truths to that statement, I still like this CD. At first I was kind of taken aback by the first song as in some places it sounds like a mess with not much focus, but by the second song, things started to come together. Without rehashing the generic things typical of death metal, they manage some catchy riffs and overall, the album makes for a pretty cool listen. I've listened to the whole album four times now and am ready for the fifth (in other words, I like it). They may not be groundbreaking or drifting from the path very much, but they deliver what I expected and delivered it well.

Recommended.

1 out of 5 stars Total Noise.......2006-08-14

This is total noise, plain and simple, Death Metal at its worst with growling vocals, noisy drums, and lackluster guitar work make Cannibal Corpse look like the Beatles.

2 out of 5 stars The definition of "generic death metal".......2006-05-12

As I read the reviews on this page, I have to wonder if I missed anything while listening to this. Is Vomitory aggressive and fast? Most certainly. Are the songs non-compromising, with technical drums and guttural vox? Indeed. But is that really enough, when guys like Suffocation and Morbid Angel did all this only better 10 years ago? I don't mind generic bands if they know how to play, and Vomitory is devoid of riffs that really flow or hook in any way.

I did my best not to fall asleep while listening to the first half of Primal Massacre, so I just can't recommend it. In terms of "brutal" metal I recommend Napalm Death or Krisiun, and if you want technical stuff check out Necrophagist or later Pestilence.

5 out of 5 stars Now, this is death metal!!.......2005-10-13

Vomitory takes a huge step with "Primal massacre", their debut album with Metal Blade. These guys are great and top of his game with this record. Great guitar riffs, growling vocals like no other and apocalyptic drums. For fans of: Unleashed, Necrophagist, Incantation and Nile.

5 out of 5 stars Not your average Death Metal..........2005-07-17

Upon first hearing Vomitory, i thought it was kind of boring generic death metal...boy was i wrong!!! Take this Primal Massacre cd for example, listen to all of the break downs and time changes. Songs like Demon's Divine, Epidemic, Stray Bullet Kill, heck, all of the songs on here jam! Tobias is one of my favorite drummers now after listening to Vomitory, you have to kind of listen closely to hear all of the cymbal and china crash patterns he does, but if you can notice them you'll see that he is one of the better Death Metal skin bashers. Erik has one of the best death growls in the whole brutal death genre! Great artwork, awesome songwriting, everything about this cd rules! I only have Blood Rapture and Revelation Nausea but i recommend those too! Vomitory is one my favorite bands now after listening to these cd's!
