Every track on this CD contains a beautiful melody, many of them easily recognizable, all of them exuding tranquility. "O mio babbino caro" from Puccini's Gianni Schicchi opens the disc, with Bell delicately accompanied by a harp and spinning the long melody with great sensitivity. Bellini's "Casta diva" from Norma lives up to its reputation as the epitome of bel canto in Bell's hands; his violin sings. The middle movement of Mozart's 21st Piano Concerto takes well to the violin, and Debussy's "The Girl with the Flaxen Hair" is played with great warmth and sensuality. It would be easy to turn a recital like this into treacle, but Bell is wise enough to realize that the music is already sweet enough and he plays with great reserve and a minimum of sentimental slides. The light accompaniments always support, with woodwinds prominent but used with grace. This CD, in short, is a beauty: a fine gift, a lovely mood setter. --Robert Levine

Romance of the Violin.......2007-07-16
While it's not my very favorite Joshua Bell CD, this is a pleasure to listen to!
End of the Day.......2007-06-08
I am a Joshua Bell fan, and this album is the one that I enjoy with my dessert, it calms me at the end of the day, and makes me think of my 6 year old granddaughter's visit. She has to have music on during meals at her home. Usually it is some kid stuff, but I do not have anything like she has at home, so I chose to play Joshua Bell during our dinner. When I placed the dessert before her, she looked up at me and said: "This music is so beautiful, I want to play the violin just like that". What more could I say.
He is inspiring, and she is right. This album is beautiful.
Wonderful!.......2007-05-30
I play this for my grandson to nap by. It is so relaxing and wonderful!
Over and over and over...........2007-05-17
That's how I want to play this CD! It's a wonderful line-up of rich, mellow, captivating compositions played with a warmth and vibrancy that is seldom heard. Joshua at his very best. You won't be disappointed.
Non-standard CD format.......2007-04-22
The music on this CD deserves five stars, but the CD itself is a non-standard format that doesn't work on all players. There's a tiny warning on the back of the CD. You won't notice the warning until you discover that the CD doesn't work on your player. My Macintosh computer wouldn't read the non-standard format so there was no way for me to listen in my office or put the music on my iPod.
A friend's PC was able to read the CD and make a copy in standard format that can be read on any player, including my Mac. The story had a happy ending, but I can not comprehend why the publisher chose the oddball CD specification.
The music is excellent and worth the trouble of making a copy, but the publisher really shouldn't make you go to that effort just to listen to a CD that you paid for.

This German industrial-metal machine has proven itself to be quite popular, with their engaging, potent brand of electronic-enhanced guitar rock and outlandish stage shows appealing to everyone from young teens to fortysomethings. (Their last studio release, 1998's Sehnsucht, went gold in the U.S.) On their third studio album, Mutter, the sextet augments its propulsive sound with a live string section and a soprano on a few tracks, while offering two mellower tracks to show their soft side. Even if they're not breaking down major barriers with their latest release, the enigmatic Rammstein should still continue pleasing numerous musical insurgents across the globe. --Bryan Reesman

RAMMSTEIN!!!.......2007-06-03
I first learned about rammstein when i was on youtube and they had a music video of one of their songs. Well i liked the song so much that i searched out this album and got it...AND IT METALS!!!!!!!! it's extremely dramatic and loud and metaly and cool. Ok, well, i don't really understand what they're saying...but hey! It still sounds great! ^_^ Probably my favorite songs are the first 7...the last 4 are pretty good, but not the best. That's why i rate it 4 stars out of 5...and also because one reviewer said that this isn't REAL metal and you should listen to kreator. well i did that and, well, he's kinda right. kreator is a lot heavier and stuff. but still, even if rammstein isn't the MOST hardcore and heavy metal out there, it's still metal, and it's still SUPER KICKA-- and D R A M A TIC
AND I LOVE IT!
BAM!.......2007-05-03
Rammstein's best album, and this among a whole host of really good albums. Nowhere else does the band rock as hard as they do here (and they always rock pretty damn hard). Brilliant from mein Herz brennt in the beginnig to Nebel at the end.
Fans should also keep their eyes open for the song Hallelujah, which is on the Links 2, 3, 4 single.
Best Rammstein Album.......2007-04-11
My first exposure to Rammstein was through the Lost Highway soundtrack. I wrote them off as a two-dimensional metal band that couldn't go beyond monotonous chords and an even more monotone voice. It was only upon paying attention to the lyrics (I speak German) that I gave them a second chance - thank goodness!
Rammstein is an underrated, overcriticized band in Germany. Fact is they love to provoke, not only through lyrics, but also in sound and appearance. I find this is a role they grew into, and that the albums 'Herzeleid' and 'Sehnsucht' were just a precursor to their later accomplishments. 'Mutter' perfectly captures a maturer tone and style without sacrificing what is uniquely Rammstein - strong, addictive chords coupled with a strong, at times spooky voice. Links 2, 3, 4 is an example of their defiance to being pigeonholed as neo-nazis, while Adios and Nebel display 'calmer', more lyrical talents. Yes, Till can actually sing well and not just chant!
I can only agree with the other reviewers that this is the best Rammstein album. It does not disappoint the more hardcore fans, while it opens the door to those who want more than just mosh-pit rock. And you don't need to speak German to get a lot out of it!
As metal as Linkin Park.......2007-03-24
Since my review for "Sehnsucht" got deleted, I'll just attack Rammstein's other effort, "Mutter."
Rammstein is abyssmal to say the least, their combination of stupid mumbling, lame powerchords, and techno beats creates "metal" for the Linkin Park-loving DDR-playing otaku kids to dance to because they're too afraid of real German metal bands like Kreator and Necrophagist. You've heard one Rammstein song, you've heard them all.
Seriously though, listen to Kreator's "Pleasure to Kill" and Necrophagist's "Epitaph" to hear the peaks of German metal. Go to your local record store and destroy every Rammstein CD and DVD you find.
Heart thumping, foot stomping, blood pumping...........2007-02-17
and that's just when I'm at the gym. I love this band. Someone introduced me to 'You smell so good" and from that one song, I knew this was the band for me. That was only last year, and so I found Rammstein a bit late in the day. I made up for it by buying all their available CDs within a week. This is my favorite band, next to The Cure. The wonderful thing about listening to music with lyrics in a foreign language is it always seems fresh to your ear, no matter how many times you play it. Rammstein isn't for everyone, but just try sampling to one or two songs on any of their CDs on here. You'll know if you are going to love them or not, and if you do love them... it'll be forever.

This compilation of music by Dvorak played by Yo-Yo Ma is just beautiful. Ma seems to understand just when Dvorak wants to be super-Romantic and sappy and when he is in fact being merely his usual expressive self. The former comes into bloom with the Slavonic Dance, in which he's accompanied by Itzhak Perlman and "Songs My Mother Taught Me," with Patricia Zander at the piano. But when it comes to revealing Dvorak as one of the most insightful and truly passionate of composers, with a particular understanding of the cello, Ma's playing of the B minor Concerto (under Kurt Masur, with the New York Philharmonic), the latter description comes into play. Ma gets every nuance out of the cello, and the way in which Masur, for instance, leads the winds against the cello at the start of the 2nd movement is just gorgeous. "Klid" ("Silent Woods") is given a deeply affecting reading as well, under Seiji Ozawa. 2004 is the 100th anniversary of Dvorak's death; this CD is fine tribute. --Robert Levine
Customer Reviews:
Yo-Yo Ma is a genius .......2004-11-16
words fail me on how to describe performance in this CD.It's very good, one of the best interpretations I have heard in a very long time. I must confess that since i discovered Ma du Pre I have not been able to listen to anything else nor did I attempt to do so. But out of the blue I bumped into this CD by chance & after hearing Yo Yo Ma's phraising especially the 1st movement infact the whole of Dvorak Cello was like something new to me.Ma plays with passion, emotions & strong commitment to the music in a different way.The Ochestra is in top form & allows the solo cello to shine at the right time.I never thought there is another interpretation that could surpass M.Rostropovich(Im sorry to say this I know he is a living legend & the 1969 record with Karajan is held in high esteem). Ma is accompanied by my favourate violinist Itzhak Perlman on "Humosresque no.7 for piano" & "Slavonic Dance no.10 in E minor"- the results are so sweet as many people know Perlman is a romantic specialist his tone with Ma's cello is heavenly. With regard to the "songs my mother taught me" the cello sounds good not best for the track personally im so used to hear the song being played on violin. There's nothing wrong with the cello it's just that it 's tone is a bit too strong for the composition but it's very well interpreted by Ma. They call this transcription in musical terms. Actually Ma deserves an apology as im one of those who have accused him of lacking in emotions &"look at me now i can play anything" attitude.I think those allegations are baseless & unwarranted when u hear this CD u will know u are into something beautiful. Overall grab this very fast before many people realise Yo-Yo Ma 's greatest gift of song.

There are many excellent recordings of Mozart's Violin Sonatas on disc to choose from, but Anne-Sophie Mutter's interpretations rise quickly to the top. Her approach is certainly closer to "old fashioned" than "authentic instrument." She sings the lines as if they were arias and uses vibrato liberally to emphasize the unwritten texts. Her use of dynamics can be extreme, from a soft murmur to a full-blooded cry. There is a sense of warmth and even rapture in some of the slow movements that is absent from most of the "authentic" recordings. Mutter's vigorous approach to the allegros captures attention. Her great technique is most welcome in the formality of the menuettos. Lambert Orkis's piano accompaniments are handsome and supportive throughout, and his work as a fortepianist pays off well. He has an ingratiating touch and really shines in K. 454 and K. 481, where the piano is given equal footing with the violin. There are almost four-and-a-half hours of music here, and all of it is beautifully performed. --Robert Levine
Album Description
SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION DIGIPAK For the grand finale of her best-selling Mozart Project, Anne-Sophie Mutter has joined with pianist Lambert Orkis for her first-ever recording of Mozart's violin sonatas. Anne-Sophie Mutter's Mozart Project has been nothing if not ambitious. Her aim: a survey of all Mozart's major compositions for solo violin. The first two releases, the Violin Concertos and a selection of Piano Trios has both been commercial and critical successes around the world.
The final segment, the Violin Sonatas, is being released as part of Deutsche Grammophon's "Mozart Forever" celebrations. It will also mark an additional milestone: the 30th anniversary of Mutter's concert debut. This live CD recording took place during Mutter's performances in Munich in February 2006, which were also filmed for TV broadcast and DVD release.
Customer Reviews:
Disappointing sound quality; frilly performance; GREAT cover!.......2007-07-02
OK, so I bought this set because of the sexy cover photo. So shoot me. Listening to it I was struck by how difficult it seems to get a smooth, life-like recording of the violin on standard "Red Book" CDs.
Her playing is technically perfect, of course, but the styling is sometimes overdone to my taste. since listening to this set, I bought a classic vinyl set by Gruemaix (sp) in mono no less. I much prefer that.
Great cover photo!
Mozart Sonatas for piano and violin.......2007-05-07
As being played through Windows Media there is no visualization of album cover nor its programme on screen. The rest of this Deutshe Grammophon product is first class sound quality.
Mozart Sontas.......2007-03-26
Anne-Sophie Mutter's cd is one of the best I have experenced in a long time. It was well worth the money. I highly reccomend this CD to classical listeners around the world.
Top notch!.......2007-01-28
If you want violin, mozart, top notch world class interpretation, you want this ablum.
That's it.
Great Daily Listening: Much Better than the Concert Performances!.......2007-01-26
When Anne-Sophie Mutter and Lambert Orkis were in Boston last fall, I attended the concert that featured some of Mozart's violin sonatas from these recordings. While I enjoyed the immediacy of the live performance, I felt that Ms. Mutter tended to overwhelm Mr. Orkis both in volume and style. That was a shame because the piano parts in Mozart's violin sonatas are always at least as important as the violin parts. Having been a little disappointed, I was, however, wowed during the encores when suddenly a balance appeared. Ms. Mutter was quieter and more restrained and Mr. Orkis seemed less constrained. It was magical.
Thus encouraged, I bought a copy of this CD set, and both performers graciously autographed it.
On arriving home and turning the music on, I was stunned! This was much better music than I had just heard, even during the encores.
I don't recall ever enjoying a recording more than a live concert of the same music by the same performers, but there's no comparison in this case. Both Ms. Mutter and Mr. Orkis soar enthusiastically . . . while also retreating tactfully and touchingly where that's appropriate. The balance between the two performers is almost perfect.
Some people criticize Ms. Mutter for putting too much passion and personal style into classical works. In this case, there's a bit of restraint in delivering that passion and style that takes Mozart from being a composer from a prior century and transforms his music into a rewarding emotional presence now. The exuberance of his genius seems to flow from both performers as they provide a modern (but not too modern) interpretation of this exceptional music.
I find myself listening with new understanding to these sonatas virtually every day.
For Anne Sophie-Mutter fans, there's no doubt that this is one of her top five recordings. If you don't own it, you've missed a treat.

JOHANNES, ANNE-SOPHIE AND ALEXIS --WHAT A TEAM!.......2007-06-19
In this recording we have three of Brahms' greatest chamber works (the violin sonatas) played by, in my humble opinion, two of classical music's greatest performers--Anne-Sophie Mutter, on violin and Alexis Weissenberg, on piano. The "wow factor" is very much in evidence in this recording--great music (some of the finest chamber music that ever has been penned) fabulous violin playing and marvelous piano playing coming together in such a way that I just sat back listening in total awe feeling that life really ain't too bad when one can hear music and performances like those contained on this recording at such a reasonable (cheap!) price! (Anne-Sophie and Alexis have a wonderful "go at it" in the fourth movement of the 3rd Sonata--wow!)
Although this disc is at the "bargain basement" price of four dollars and ninety-seven cents ($4.97), the sound is superb. EMI is really to be commended for offering these superb performances at such a "rock bottom" price. I truly loved this recording as you will too if you purchase it!
Trio of great violin sonatas.......2005-09-08
While Brahms wrote only three sonatas, they are a great trio of works. The first is the most intense, the second the most lyrical and the last one the most inspired with a slow movement that is arguably Brahms most beautiful melody. The two famous musicians here give us radiant performances. At almost 10 bucks less than a full-priced version of this music, this CD represents great value.

Customer Reviews:
Mill. Classical review.......2007-05-13
This is a great set of recordings for the money, the only problem was I've had to clean some of the CD's before they played correctly.
classical music for the unitiated.......2007-04-01
This set is a good way to start listening to classical music. It's very well produced and easy to listen to. I purchased it to use as part of my world history high school class. It would have been nice to have some bio information on the composers. However, the product is exactly as advertised and good value for the money. The students were intrigued by how many of the excerpts they had heard before.
Some little gems there that I had forgotten!.......2007-03-30
Although I studied classical music at school, I had all but forgotten it until I bought this set. I heard several tracks I haven't heard for over 30 years, and I had been humming Brahms's 'Hungarian Dance no. 5' for years without ever knowing what it was and it was on the disc, so that was nice.
I found it to be a very good selection overall, but I felt too much had already been heard on TV, which of course is what lots of newcomers to classical music might appreciate. I managed to find about 2 hours of tracks that I wanted to keep, which works out quite expensive per disc, but I did find some wonderful music I had completely forgotten about, so it was worth it. All in all, it represents good value, and I have only knocked one star off as so much of it had been used in adverts.
It is definitely a good introduction to classical music, and it has made me want to listen to more of it, so I don't regret this 'expensive' purchase one bit!
Classical Masterpieces of the Millennium [20 CD Set]
A very helpful collection.......2007-03-24
I define this set as an excellent way to find out who you like, and who you don't, among 20 of the important composers. It opens the door to purchasing more complete pieces by composers you do like, and can save a lot of time and money in the process.
To criticize the set for not containing more composers, or more than just snippets of those who are in the set, is missing the point: it is a helpful introduction to finding your way in the huge maze of classical music. It succeeds admirably in this.
Sound quality is uniformly very good on an audiophile system.
Highly recommended.
Excellent!.......2007-03-08
A great way to start a classical music collection. It's nice to have a full CD of each composer. It makes it easy to keep track of selections/composers I already have and what composers I still need to puchase to complete my collection.

Fans of Anne-Sophie Mutter know what to expect of her. Her technique is dazzling, and she takes an individualistic, Romantic approach to whatever she plays --occasionally inundating the music with more weight than is necessary--and her tone is luminous and grand. This 2-CD set of all of Mozart's Violin Concerti and the fantastic Sinfonia Concertante K. 364 (wherein she's joined by violist Yuri Bashmet) exemplifies all of these traits. If you like your Mozart airy and delicate you've come to the wrong place; if you like some fine showy virtuosity in fast movements and long, lush statements in the slow movements, you'll be perfectly comfortable. And indeed the slow movements are slow--occasionally hypnotically so--but they're never less than stunningly played. K. 364 is ravishing, particularly in the two energetic outer movements, with Bashmet's gorgeous tone a real attraction. This is very sophisticated Mozart playing. --Robert Levine
Customer Reviews:
Superb!.......2007-06-21
I wil be brief. These remarable pieces are played beautifully and insightfully by Ms. Mutter. No Mozart worshiper should be without these recordings.
Lyrical, Powerful, Moving Mozart.......2007-03-16
Every so often you find an almost perfect performance and recording that leaves you smiling and shaking your head in awe: Mutter Mozart -- The Violin Concertos and Sinfonia Concertante is definitely one of those.
Ms. Mutter's power, range, and stylistic sophistication are at their acme. She soars ethereally where it's required, sings sweetly in slow rhythms, and pushes forward like a commander where that's what's called for. The London Philharmonic is beautifully in concert with her every move and timing. Yuri Bashmet's viola in Sinfonia Concertante is equally sublime.
For those who first knew Ms. Mutter's Mozart playing when she was but a budding teen, it's fun to see how much her skill and interpretive abilities have expanded in 30 years. It's astonishing to see someone with that much experience can still appear quite young. And of course, there's the irony to appreciate of Ms. Mutter now being older than Mozart was at his death.
Above all this is a confident performance by players who know Mozart well, understand what they want to accomplish, and are in complete accord with what needs to be done. The bright optimism and energy of Mozart are beautifully displayed . . . reminding us with wonder of how his own life was often filled with problems even as he produced such astonishingly bright works one right after the other.
If you like Ms. Mutter and Mozart, I encourage you to purchase this two CD-set and the four CD-set, Mozart: The Violin Sonatas.
Buy it if you love mozart and violin.......2007-01-03
I bought this CD set a couple of months back. I'm glad to to say that I've enjoyed it throughly so far. I also have a copy of the rather polished recording of Violin Concertos 3 and 5 that Mutter made with Karajan, and I find the new one seems to have greater energy and emotions. Both the set of recordings are to be cherished in their own right.
The Sinfonia Concertante is to die for! I've not heard a better recording, especially the Presto.
One of the most beutiful Mozart ever.......2006-12-22
I compared this recording with Manze, Grumiaux, and Perlman's recordings.
First, no. 1 and 2. are the outstading performance with gorgeous sound.
Regarding No. 3, I prefer her earlier recording to it in especially in first movement. But, 2nd and 3rd movement are really great and probably second to none.
No. 4 and No. 5 is also great.
Sinfonia Concertante, I bet nobody else can do better than Mutter and Bashmet.
My suggestion :
If you wanna background music --> Manze OK.
If you wanna more classical music --> Grumiaux
If you love sweetier sound --> Perlman
If you love song (I think this recording shows more operatic and more lirical aspects in Mozart musics than other recordings do) and really want to be absorbed into music --> Mutter !
Mozart: The Violin Concertos.......2006-07-06
Mozart: The Violin Concertos~ Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a stunning and amazing recording with brilliant Anne Sophie Mutter. She plays with such bravura, skill and ability that is rarely heard and the only one that I can think of right of hand sitting here typing this is Hillary Hahn, but there could one or two more that have slipped my mind. Mozart is in my humble opinion alone one of the greatest composers of all time and alongst with Wagner, Bach and Beethoven they are the elite of all compositions and are therefore in a league of their own. The complexity of Mozart's work is often deceptive. One hears it and one is struck by its seeming simplicity. However, take a look at the score and one suddenly realizes the complexity and the brilliance that is captured within the mind and spirit of Mozart and verily being a devout Christian at heart I can not help to think that God spent a few extra seconds on the likes of Mozart. Highly recommended without any reservations to connoisseurs of classical music as well as to ordinary listeners whom will surely appreciate the magnificent ability of Anne Sophie Mutter and the amazing compositions created by Mozart.

Amazon.com essential recording
This vocal recital certainly lives up to its title, perhaps too well. It's a collection of arias and songs Fleming has sung for years that for some may be too much frosting and not enough cake. Surely, her performances are rich with interpretive nuances, wonder-filled portamentos and word colorings that reflect a long history with this repertoire, which ranges from Charpentier's "Depuis le jour" to Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise." Some may find Fleming a bit much, but agree with her or not, she's far more interesting than singers who keep a safe, discreet distance from the music. --David Patrick Stearns
Customer Reviews:
Renee Fleming sings favorite works.......2007-07-30
Renee Fleming has turned out a fine CD of arias with which not everyone is familiar. Outstanding are Depuis le Jour from Charpentier's Louise and Marietta's Lied, Glueck, das mir verblieb, from Korngold's Die Tote Stadt. The latter is one of the most haunting arias ever written. Many of us cannot get it out of our minds. She includes Chi il bel sogno di Doretta from Puccini's La Rondine and does it well. Hers is not really a Puccini voice. Perhaps Richard Strauss and Mozart are her strengths.
The best of the best........2007-04-11
I've given away at least a dozen copies of this CD. I'm running low, so I just refilled the stash. For people who haven't discovered Renee Fleming or who think they don't care for opera, this CD is the best possible way to blow down the walls. If you think there's nothing new to be heard in these old arias, you owe it to yourself to find out how wrong you can be.
Beautiful and creamy voice.......2006-02-28
I like so much Ren?e Fleming and this is special cd !

IT'S A FINE RECORDING THAT OFFERS A VARIETY OF SELECTIONS FROM OPERA, OPERETTAS AND FOLK SONGS, ALL WITH FLEMING AT HER BEST.
The most gorgeous soprano voice I've ever heard.......2006-01-02
I am a 19-year-old voice student at the University of Central Arkansas and I came across Renee by way of a soprano in my voice studio. She said it was her favorite soprano and that I should give her a listen. I was a little hesistant because I'm a baritone and my voice teacher told me that I should listen to men, but I just want to hear it all. So this past summer I first bought Renee's self-titled album with all of the lolipop arias on it and I was just amazed, not just because of how good she is but how easy she is to listen to. I loved her voice immediately. From the the moment the first tone passed through her throat on Puccini's "O Mio Babbino Caro." So I had to hear more. The Beautiful Voice is even better. It wasn't as easy to listen to at first because some of the songs on this album are not as famous as those on the other one, but these songs are all gems. The Korngold with the pianissimi B flats is my personal favorite. Even my mother who screams at me to turn down that "noise" when I listen to opera cds has grown to be quite fond of Renee Fleming. Sometimes her interpretations can be over the top, but the voice is beyond spectacular. It pours out like melted butter. It's vibrant, rich, expressive, free and always perfectly in tune. There is no hint of strain from any sound emitted from her body. She will undoubtedly be remembered like Callas & Sutherland and all the other great soprano voices before her. Not for the dramatic intensity of Callas or the coloratura & technical ease of Sutherland, but for the sheer unspeakable beauty of her voice. This is a must have for any vocalist seriously dedicated to classical training.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful.......2005-11-07
An excellent compilation of folk tunes and violin concerto adagios, played masterfully by some of the world's most revered musicians. Features modern pieces (Korngold, Barber), which are a personal favorite of mine.
Thanks you Decca.......2005-01-23
My daughter is a violin student of 7 years and she has played 3 or 4 of these pieces for recitals. I bought the CD's so she could become familiar with the pieces as she was learning to play them. Now I find myself listening to the CD's almost every night when I go for my end of the day drive to relax. My favorites are the Mozart Concerto in G, the Mendelssohn Concerto in E minor and Beethoven's Romance in F on disc 2, but all the songs are exquisitely beautiful. I highly recommend it.
Exquisite music for the soul.......2004-06-14
These CDs have the most incredible selections of music on them. Listening to the violins has enabled me to complete papers for my doctoral level classes without the usual neck aches. This is soothing, exquistie music for the soul! Lovely!!
Indeed a joy forever!.......2003-05-22
Before buying this 2 CD set,I've read Reviews by Chicagodreamer,
who rated it as "Highly, highly recommended." His laudatory recommentation, I must say, is found "well justified."
