Album Description

On this debut, Inara's skills are at once obvious; her delivery relaxed and confident. She's been steadily working in the LA music scene, playing in bands, and lending her voice to numerous musical projects/film scores (Van Dyke Parks, Idlewild, Danny Elfman, Michael Andrews, Jackson Browne, Phillip Littel). Inara teamed with producer/guitarist/composer Michael Andrews to record "All Rise." Andrews is best known as the score composer of the cult hit "Donnie Darko" but others know him as Elgin Park, the clutch boogaloo/funk guitarist in the Greyboy Allstars. Inara's songs are like little poetic Polaroids, fleeting glimpses into one woman's examination of the world around her. Others are more like impressionist paintings, as though she's just noticed a view and decided to paint it. The production is spare yet lush, elegantly underscoring the presiding moods as they turn. The sound seems to defy context, gracefully blending the nostalgic and the contemporary, the organic and the synthesized into an immensely palatable, and wholly consistent, soundscape all its own. Contributing musicians include Greg Kurstin (Beck, Ben Harper), Greyboy Allstar bassist Chris Stillwell, and former Cake drummer Pete McNeal.

4 out of 5 stars Nice.......2007-05-14

I bought this albumn after hearing the song Pull Things, which I have to say is one of the most beautiful songs I have heard. After listening to the cd many times I have found a few other gems, Fools in Love is really a great song. The lyrics are very good. "Fools in love, gently hold each others hands forever" "Fools in love, well are there any other kind of lovers?" Just really great lyrics, that shows her delicate but humorous journey in the field of love. I like Genius as well. Lashing out a bit at the feel sorry for me crowd, at least thats what I gather. Anyways, you should buy this albumn. Some of george's other stuff is a bit out of my taste, but I find myself listening to find her meanings.

5 out of 5 stars let it build.......2007-04-11

There are about three songs that are unforgettable on this album. The rest form the necessary foliage, and help get you in the mood, for those three. After a while though the whole album becomes an outgrowth of those songs. Excellent entertainment. This is a top 10 of all time for me...and it might still be on the way up...

4 out of 5 stars Catchy, pretty stuff.......2006-06-27

If you like Fiona Apple, Erin McKeown, Leslie Feist, The Essex Green, Keren Ann, then you should probably pick this up. If Cat Power decided she wanted to sound like stereolab it might turn out like this.

5 out of 5 stars Rising Star.......2005-11-23

Inara George never ceases to amaze me. She's definitely on her climb to stardom!

5 out of 5 stars Crystal voice with flowing music.......2005-11-19

I first heard "Mistress" on myspace.com/ascap, and I was completely taken aback. Of course, I bought the album, and I can't get enough of it. I'm a musician myself, so I appreciate each and every note and instrumentation. But aside from that, her lyrics and voice are gorgeous (yet sometimes the enunciation of words aren't quite as clear as her voice), and it's hard to take it off my iPod. So so hard...

    5 out of 5 stars Their best?.......2005-06-20

Semi Detached is one of the more underrated Therapy? albums. Personally it is one of my favourite Therapy? albums. The album is a combination of Therapy's love for catchy but also experimental songs. "Church Of Noise" is one of the rawest and punkiest songs on the album. "Lonely, Cryin' Only" sounds like a sixties harmony rock/pop song. " "Tightrope Walker" and "Black Eye Purple Sky" have a great guitar harmony. "Stay Happy" and "Straight Life" are my favourite tracks. "Stay Happy" is a over-the-top up tempo song and "Straight Life" could have been on the album Troublegum. "Tramline" really is an experimental/noisy song, pure chaos. The only track that I don't like is "Don't Expect Roses". It is a rock and roll track that is not bad, but is not really my cup of tea.

Overall Therapy? combines noise and melody and also melancholy and joyness perfectly. The songs are pretty layered. The bands uses different sounds to enhance the songs. Semi Detached is a diverse album and when the album ends it invites you to press play again. The album is just a perfect mixture of Nurse, Troublegum and Infernal Love.

4 out of 5 stars More than Semi Sweet.......2004-10-14

I really didn't care for this album when I first heard it. I was accustomed to their older releases ala Nurse & Hats off to the Insane, and this struck me as odd. Therefore, I didn't play the album again until a few months later, and I was really drawn in that second hearing. I realized this is a really good album. The songs are crafted well, and the playing and singing are among the groups finest. They don't beat around the bush here either. Each song is short and most contains a catchy hook. Therapy? pulls their pop side off very nicely here. May these Irish greats offer more interesting music for many years to come!

5 out of 5 stars Even better than Troublegum.......2001-08-22

According to most fans Therapy? will never be able to top Troublegum, an album of sheer genius. I think they did, when they released Semi-Detached. Semi-Detached is a crossover between Troublegum and Infernal Love, being more poppy than the first and less slick than the latter, and creating an atmosphere which is a mixture of Troublegum's anger and IL's melancholy. Songs like "Church of Noise", "Lonely Cryin' Only", "Straight Life" and "Don't Expect Roses" are great uptempo rocksongs comparable to "Screamager", "Stop It Your Killing Me" and "Loose". More dynamic songs are "Tightrope Walker", "Black Eye Purple Sky", "Born Too Soon" and "Tramline"- they may take some time getting used to, but in my case these songs made me really really like the album. It's hard to explain why, but if you like Nurse's "Zipless", Troublegum's "Brainsaw" and Infernal Love's "Jude The Obscene" my guess is you'll like these songs as well. If you really want to know whether you'll share my opinion, just listen to "Safe". If you also think that is one of the best rocksongs ever, yoú just have to get "Semi-Detached", because you'll dig it.

    3 out of 5 stars Therapy?'s weakest..........2001-03-18

This is the first time that I'm slightly dissappointed with a Therapy? Album. The Band doesn't like this effort either, and it's pretty obvious why : The Therapy? trademarks become a soap opera on this album and the songs that could have been great are ruined by the "poppy" melodies : "Stay Happy" is a prime example for this problem. They just take the pop too far on this record. On "Infernal Love" they managed to keep the parce between the genius Therapy? sound and some poppy experiments. Here, the nice melodies drain the edgyness and agression which is not good. Most of the record seems too overladen with radio-friendly melodies ( of course they get all disorted but they are there ) which are cool on some moments but very annyoing on others. To me, this isn't half as deep as "Infernal Love" and a far cry from the milestone "Troublegum" was ( which is one of the best records ever, period! ). But Therapy? wouldn't be Therapy? if they hadn't something big going for them, even on a weak effort like this : "Tightrope Walker", "Straight Life" and "Safe" are examples of this group's abilities. Especially "safe" is very haunting and beautiful, the line "I'm clean and I'm clinging, like I've never held on to anything in my life" sends shivers down my spine. "Straight Life" is certainly the best song on the record, bringing back the spirit of the "real" Therapy?. "Tightrope Walker" is what all of this album should have been : a mixture between a poppy chorus and a truly disturbing basic idea. All in all, stay away from this record if you are new to the band. Get "Infernal Love", "Suicide pact", "Troublegum", "Nurse" and "Caucasian Psychosis" first. These albums never stay too far from my CD player and for good reason : Therapy? are on of the best bands ever. Sadly, this albums mostely disappoints.

    5 out of 5 stars Great!.......2000-10-22

Fist of all, let me say that people who are looking for Troublegum II will be disappointed, since this isn't a Troublegum II, and there will probably never be one. Therapy?'s 7 albums (Born in a crash not counted) are all different. Although this album comes closer to Troublegum than the other albums, this album should not be compared with T? greatest album yet, beuse it wouldn't be fair. Now, let's talk about this album. Unlike their latest release Suicide Pact, this album is pretty mainstream and 'radio-friendly'. The album starts with Church Of Noise, a perfect opener for this album. Then there are some more or less 'similar' songs Tightrope Walker and Black Eye, Purple Sky. Then one of T? best songs comes: Lonely, Cryin' Only, which is a perfect song in every sense. It's loud, but not too loud, and Andy's lyrics complete the song. Other great songs are Stay Happy, Safe (which starts out pretty slow, but turns out to be a great rock song, with emotional content), and the best track of the album: Straight Life, which kicks in immediately as it starts. The guitars are great, and Andy's almost screaming lyrics fit the music perfectly. The only weak track is Tramline, which is just too edgy and too loud. On the whole, this album is one of T?'s finest yet. Although many T? fans claim that it's the weakest yet, I think this album would be perfect to start your T? collection with, but be sure to get Troublegum and Infernal Love too!

Thiis video shows the clippings of videos used during CRASS performances. The scenes are in black and white and the quality is like watching it throught a TV from the 70's. However if CRASS is one of your favorite bands of all time (like me) this video is a must have because it portrays a great majority of what CRASS was about. All I have to say is you are in for a real treat if yuou order this.

5 out of 5 stars A must own for any Therapy? fan.......2000-02-29

With the Semi-Detached project, Therapy? takes a brief break from their usual hard rocking style. Out of all of the Therapy? albums, this is the most melodic. Andy finally got married right before this album, and it reflects his new found love. Gone are the depressed, angry lyrics. The entire album is a welcome change. The style of the album is similar to that of the songs Nowhere and Die Laughing off their masterpiece, Troublegum. The bonus tracks included on the Japanese release are a welcome addition. Whereas Troublegum had 100% awesome songs, this album does have a few lame tunes. The good songs are so good that they make up for the bad. If you don't have Semi-Detached, import it today.

4 out of 5 stars Nice edition for North American fans.......1999-11-22

Due to the departure of this great band from A&M in North America, imports are the only way to go for Semi-Detached and Suicide Pact-You First. This Japanese edition has some nice bonus tracks that add some value to the disc. Lonely, Cryin' Only is a favorite of mine and is an instant Therapy? classic.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent work and a job well done!.......1999-10-19

Semi-Detached could possibly be Therapy?'s best album to date. It comes very close to Troublegum, but it does beat out Nurse and Infernal Love. The songs are just so catchy and memorable that I have to listen to them everyday. And of course, with great guitar riffs come excellent lyrics to go along with them. The songs sound quite different than those of their earlier days. They seem more up-beat and less "down on the world." Therapy? has always had fantastic choruses, and believe me, this album won't let you down. Every song on this cd will keep you wanting more. Semi-Detached delivers! Keep it up, Therapy?

5 out of 5 stars A must for Therapy? fans.......1999-09-30

Great come back for Therapy? Semi detatched see Therapy? back with a new line up and prove to the world they can still write songs which kick the arse off any other band in the world. They are also one of the best live bands around . After listening to semi detatched you are left asking the question how are they going to top that? Welcome back THERAPY?
