A HARD ROCKIN' GEM.......2007-05-26
ANOTHER GREAT ALBUM FROM A GREAT BAND. THESE GUYS ROCK! STAND OUT TRACKS INCLUDE "NEVER ENOUGH","RIP AND TEAR" AND "THE BALLAD OF JAYNE" WHICH WAS AMAZINGLY A TOP 40 HIT. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RECORD TO ANY ROCKER.
Definitive L.A. Guns album.......2007-05-17
THE BAND: Tracii Guns (guitar, sitar), Philip Lewis (vocals), Mick Cripps (guitar, piano), Kelly Nickels (bass, harmonic), Steve Riley (drums & percussion).
THE DISC: (1989) 14 tracks clocking in at approximately 54 minutes. Included with the disc is a 4-page foldout containing song titles/credits/times, song lyrics, 2 band photos, and thank you's. This is the band's 2nd album. The album features guest appearances by Cheap Trick members Robin Zander and Rick Nielsen. Label - Vertigo / Polygram Records.
COMMENTS: Hands down, "Cocked & Loaded" is L.A.Guns' most polished and complete record... period. 14 tracks of rocking sleazy big aqua-net induced hair glam. One of their biggest hits and perhaps their most radio friendly tune, "The Ballad Of Jayne", is here... along with minor hits "Never Enough" and "Rip And Tear". Other highlights include "I Wanna Be Your Man", "Sleazy Come Easy Go", "Malaria", and "17 Crash". First and foremost this is a guitar album - this is Tracii Guns' band - and it shows. Great melodies, crunchy rhythms and ripping solos. With "Cocked & Loaded", L.A.Guns quickly established themselves as a band to be reckoned with on the Los Angeles late 80's music scene... right up there with the ranks of Motley Crue, Skid Row, Bullet Boys, Warrant, White Lion, Cinderella, Winger and Poison. Years later L.A.Guns is still hanging around (with several more albums under their belt), but none matched the songwriting and playing of this one (4.5 stars).
rip n' tear.......2006-07-20
there is not a hint of the 'sophmore slump' anywhere near this album. if your the kinda person who likes to put in a cd and hear it from cover to cover, then look no further. considerably their best album to date, this beaut leaves no doubt that LAG was at the top of their game. if your ready for a full assault on your ear drums, buy it. purchase it used @ low price and you can't go wrong.
One of their greatest.......2006-02-07
This album is absolutley one of L.A. Guns greatest albums ever and was ver underrated, there is not one bad spot on this album from beginning to end. Phil Lewis's voice has never sounded better specially on Never Enoughs chorus, leaves me speechless that he can sing like that. this album, like I said was underrated even though it did go platinum, the only song people seem to remember is "The Ballad of Jayne" which is a great song, but in my opinion is not the best, this whole cd is memorable and shouldnt just be known for just one song "highly recommended"
AWESOME hair metal/hard rock - genre fans will LOVE this!.......2006-01-12
Even though L.A. Guns weren't deemed "as good" or weren't as popular as Guns 'n' Roses or AC/DC, they were still very very good (for a couple albums). Most people seem to laugh at the thought of hair metal, but for those who can look past these criticisms this is just great fun! Singer Phil Lewis is an excellent and very likable vocalist who, although he arguably isn't as great as AC/DC's, for example, still gets the job done. L.A. Guns aren't bothered with trying to be the most politically aware or thought-provoking group on the planet, so it's at least good that every song here makes for a great and energetic hard rock album (minus the slow-natured "The Ballad Of Jayne"). Every song is good or great, and, although none are necessarily memorable, they're all fun to listen to while you're playing it. The lyrics, like I said, aren't intelligent at all, but they're catchy and fun - in this genre that's half the battle. Musically it's pretty standard hard rock, but they deliver in terms of catchy, fun and energetic rock songs. The musicianship, though derivative, is still really really good. This may not be music that everyone will like, but if you love hair metal then "Cocked & Loaded" is one of the best albums you can buy! Highly recommended!

Customer Reviews:
Oh Al..........2007-05-23
So consummate is my fanboyism that I am morally obligated to listen to everything Gibby records at least once, but lord, this just isn't good. I guess I can agree that it's the best industrial album of 2006, but that's really not the compliment it sounds like given the competition. The ever-increasing prevalence of unthinkably powerful computers has pretty much made the entire movement passé--any kid with a pirated copy of ProTools can do this stuff in their sleep these days--and Christina Aguilera's latest record arguably embodies the mechanistic time card punching work ethic just as well as anything Genesis P. Orridge ever laid on tape.
This album is still more respectable than your average Trent's-broke-and-needs-another-fix charity fundraiser release, but there hasn't really been anything genuinely exciting going on in the genre since Jim Nash died. Even the last Foetus release was a tragedy and I always thought he could do no wrong.
Worst Production EVER.......2007-04-24
It seems that none of the other reviewers were particularly impressed with this album either, but I am surprised no one mentioned the terrible production. The record was produced and mixed by Al himself, but lacks the bass thickness or drum heaviness that typifies your standard industrial release. In fact the drum beat gets entirely lost in the mix at certain fast points, and the music degrades into amorphous static, such as during the chorus of Ten Million Ways to Die (an inane "Ministry - So What" wannabe). Gone are Paul Barker's smooth basslines, and gone are the beats of Bill Rieflin. The music as a whole sounds dry, thin, and incredibly low-fidelity-and-not-in-that-cool-way. This detracts from the once darkly sexy quality that RevCo used to have, and replaces it with more of a dirty grandpa vibe.
Some of the Jello Biafra songs are cool, and remind me of Lard. Dead End Streets and Viagra Culture are definitely two of the more interesting tracks. Revolting Cock au Lait is sort of amusing in its parodying of classic Hendrix/Pink Floyd/Etc, but my version of this CD opens with a track called RevColution Medley, which is just the previously mentioned song edited down to 5 or 6 minutes, and therefore pretty unnecessary. And I liked the song Fire Engine the first time I heard it... when it was called Sideways in Reverse by the Mark Lanegan Band. Ripoff aside, the lyrics are just stupid. Fire Engine Fast, Fire Engine Slow, Fire Engine Fire Engine Go Go Go?
So there are a few good songs on here, and I could even forgive the lame ones like Fire Engine and Prune Tang (someone needs to tell Al that a clever pun does not a good tune make) if only the production weren't so bad. I got this album free, and still felt disappointed.
It grew on me.......2007-04-01
This is a rather rough release that took awhile to grab me. However, eventually the eclectic compilation of musucians, with their obscene lyrics, catchy riffs, and scathing vocals grabbed me.
This is nothing like previous Revolting Cock albums, as the sense of humor associated with this group has turned somewhat darker. The lineup is also almost entirely different.
Somehow, it all meshes together, as this Al-centric project puts together one of my favorite albums from 2006. Songs that I couldn't even listen all the way through at first, have suddenly become some of my favorites off the album (Jack in the Crack, Pole Grinder). Other songs, like Fire Engine, Revolting Cock Au Lait, and Purple Head were winners from the start.
Don't expect Big Sexy Land or Beers, Steers, and Queers, and keep an open mind if you pick this one up.
If ya can't laugh, screw ya!.......2006-07-21
Here is REVCO back and taking no prisoners. Uncle Al is back with a beefed up line up featuring Gibby Hanes, Rick Nielson, Jello Biafra and Phildo Owen. Part sass, part tribute, part insanity mixed with moonshine likker. If you can't get down to this baby, you are just a nu-metal p*ssy. Viva the COCK!
Stand out track: Calientie (A reworded version of Dark Entries by Bauhaus!)
enh.......2006-07-07
I like this album right now, but i don't konw if it's good enough that i'll be able to say that in a year. There are some songs that I really like, 10 milion ways to die, caliente, but a lot of it was boring. it's worth a listen and definitely see them live if you get the chance, but not an amazing album.

Not as bad as people say.......2006-02-07
Well ok, maybe this recording isnt nearly as good as the original Cocked & Loaded, but it still isnt that bad, or atleast as bad as people say. As you may have read from other reviewers, Vertigo wouldnt release the original songs to L.A. Guns so they had to re-record them. On this re-recording of their master piece, you can tell that they didnt put half as much heart & energy into this then with there original recording, but there are some songs they did that proved to be just as good as the originals, there are some downsides aswell, they didnt seem like they found the same chemistry on the song Sleazy Come, Easy Go and in my opinion Malaria, but really those are the only downsides and yes Phil Lewis's voice sounds a little rusty but other then that this album wast half as bad as people say
I recommend this album for true L.A. Guns fans, for the fans who want to hear the best sound, grab the original Cocked & Loaded.
For the die-hards that already own the origanal.......2005-12-18
The premise of this album seems stupid. Why would a band re-record an album that is already a classic? But the LA Guns had their reasons. Because Vertigo Records owned the masters to the original "Cocked & Loaded" and wouldn't release them to the LA Guns, the band had no choice but to re-record the entire album if they wanted to do whatever they wanted to do with the songs.
Compared to the original "Cocked & Loaded," "Cocked & Re-Loaded" sounds far rawer, more live, more one-take, spur-of-the-moment. The band has obviously been playing these songs for years, went into the studio, cut their album, and went home, probably in a week. While "Cocked & Re-Loaded" can't compare to the original album, if you are a fan of the band and the original album, "Cocked & Re-Loaded" is worth owning, as it offers an interesting take on one of the band's finest recordings. The one real downside is that singer Phil Lewis's voice, while not shot, is not what it once was. Still, "Cocked & Reloaded" should please fans of the band and is recommended to those that already have the original. If you don't have the original "Cocked & Loaded," make sure to buy that first.
Ignore the harsh reviews.......2002-08-23
Being an LA GUNS fan since 88 I can say Cocked and Reloaded is far from a dissapointment.
It was never recorded to sound fresh and new it was recorded for the simple fact that Vertigo hold the rights to the recordings but not the songs and would not release them to LA Guns. So instead of a big battle they re-recorded the songs and if you ask me they sound a lot rawer and less polished than the original giving it the feel of the debut cd.
I love the new and old version and if you can get one or even both you are in for a real treat....
Phil Lewis has one of the best voices in rock.
Cocked & ReLoaded.......2001-02-01
Slap in the Face, Malaria, 17 Crash, and I'm Addicted are as good if not better then the orig, but the remander of this recording is not as good as Cocked & Loaded. Track down Cocked & Loaded and the Liberators CD instead if you can, Phils voice is much better on those recordings.
This one and Black Beauties are not the best of the 3 Cleopatra releases. Given the choice go for Live! A Night On The Strip. Phils voice recovered on that CD and proves that he can take the test of time.
Not at all What I Expected.......2000-12-23
This release was a big dissapointment. When I heard that they re recorded Cocked and Loaded I thought it was going to sound fresh and new, and that they were going to update the songs that I consider to be glam metal classics. Then when I saw it in the store I bought it thinking it was going to be good. From the outside the packaging looks really good but that like the album was also a dissapointment. First off this album sounds like it was recorded at a soundcheck, and secondly Phil Lewis' voice doesn't even sound that good. On this album they managed to ruin songs such as Sleazy Come Easy Go, Never Enough, Showdown, and the Ballad of Jayne. They do however redo some songs decently such as Slap in the Face, Malaria, 17 Crash, and Tracii's guitar solo I'm Addicted. As a matter of fact the only thing that saves this album is Tracii Guns' guitar playing. He proves that he is a very capable guitarist. The last song on the album is a remix of Rip and Tear. Which was just put on there to take up space and doesn't belong on any album the only place it belongs is in the garbage because that's what it is. As a long time Guns fan it kills me to say it but it's the truth, we'll just have to see what they come with in 2001. My advice to anyone is to get the original Cocked and Loaded, don't waste your money on this.

The hip soundtrack isn't enough to save this dull movie........1999-11-04
Dull, pretentious--you want to strangle the lead character for her morose self-indulgent philosophizing. Rock musicians -- even indie rock musicians -- are stylish but insubstantial, like this movie. If I hadn't eaten a bowl of chili before I watched this movie I wouldn't have had anything to entertain me at all. Bleah!
I LOVE THAT MOVIE.......1999-10-28
I LOVE THE ARTISTS THAT PLAY AT THE MOVIE, THE MUSIC IS ONE OF THE BEST OF ALL TIME.

Should Have Been Bigger.......2006-01-03
L.A. Guns helped shape the Los Angeles hair metal scene. This album has alot of good songs, including The Ballad of Jayne, their only really successful song in the US. This album is full of classic glam and sleaze rock that will please fans of Ratt, Faster Pussycat, and Motley Crue smile. The band, especially singer Phil Lewis and guitarist Tracii Gunns, are at the top of their game. In my opinion, Tracii Gunns is one of the most underated guitarists of all time. Look for Tracii on tour with Quiet Riot in 2006.
