5 out of 5 stars Hidely-ho, neglectarinos!.......2005-02-07

I must say, I've heard some unfairly neglected bands in my time, but these guys have to be at or near the top of any list of all-too-well-kept secrets. Keelhaul play a mostly instrumental, classic rock-tinged brand of tech-metalcore that absolutely slays the work of most of their contemporaries in the heavy-music field. The vastness and pummelling heaviness of their sound invites comparisons to such bands as Mastodon, High on Fire, and Neurosis, especially on the mountainous, dynamic-laden epics Driver's Bread and Answer the Chicken. The shorter pieces Mash the Sandwich and Randall demonstrate the band's flair for complexity and head-spinning musicianship, while Shackleton is a litany of pained shouts, searing guitar work, and rifle-shot drum fills. Relatively short, sharp, and to the point, Subject to Change Without Notice is a worthy addition to your extreme music collection, if of course you happen to have one.

5 out of 5 stars I simply can not believe..........2004-10-13

...that I am the first person to review this monsterously heavy album a full year after it's release. Keelhaul take straight out rock and mix it into a style of music so retardedly heavy that the first time you see them live they'll lay you flat out on your back without so much as a wink. The songs can suddenly launch into full-out grinding metal and just as quickly drop into a mild groove or some tasteful southern rock licks. Keelhaul has no qualms in switching between material as dense and heavy as any death metal band your likely to ever hear and a bit that might recall some lynard skynard. If you consider yourself a fan of such acts as Clutch, Neurosis, the Melvins, Mastodon, Spaceboy, Godflesh, or even f**king Led Zeppelin then you owe it to yourself to score some Keelhaul albums and appreciate

    5 out of 5 stars Best NuMetal/GrindCore/UltraPummel/AcidRock/NoiseBlast/BlackMetal/BangPunch album ever!!.......2005-09-09

Best NuMetal/GrindCore/UltraPummel/AcidRock/NoiseBlast/BlackMetal/BangPunch album ever!! Like I said...these guys are unbelievable. They're like a mix of Drone Pilot, Face Blow, Kurgg Zone, some old Fire Bat, and just a bit more melodic than Death Kill. No...wait...they are talentless clowns that are making bland, boring, easy-to-assemble, derivative "music." You metal-heads need to explore the world of real music and maybe you won't need this junk anymore.

4 out of 5 stars Solid cd from a solid band.......2005-08-28

Keelhaul defanitely surprised me on how good they really are. These guys are really underapreciated and need to be recognized for the great talent that they have. I would recommend this cd to anyone that is a fan of Mastadon. Go and pick up this cd now!!

    5 out of 5 stars Cleveland's REAL best kept secret . . ........2002-07-27

Keelhaul are the kind of band that must be experienced live to be fully appreciated, but that's not to say their disc isn't going to lay waste to your cd player. Quite the contrary - I believe that the live sound has been captured quite nicely in their second offering. Featuring some great musicianship, minimal vocals, a rhythm section that's as calculus-reliant as it is destructive and a guitar sound with cave-depth heaviness, "II" whacks your grill from note one and never lets up once. 360 can best be described as an aural sledgehammer fight, each beat a strike and each riff a bruise. Plenty to be had on both counts. "Some Day, Some Other Place" and "New World" continue the beating with an assault similar to a nuance delivered by Neurosis meeting older Spaceboy. Real technical without the sparseness. Rhythm section is probably the most underrated in metalcore. Keelhaul cannot be kept a secret any longer if you strive for heavier and harder rock.
