Album Description
In a remarkable career spanning six decades, singer-songwriter Paul Simon has amassed 9 Grammy awards and has been inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. The first occasion recognized has brilliant work as one half of Simon & Garfunkel. Simon's second induction, in 2001, heralded his equally massive contributions as a solo artist and composer. The songwriter's solo catalog is one of the most diverse, literate, adventurous, and musically rich in all of popular music. Today regarded as one of the greatest composers of the rock n' roll era, Simon is an American treasure, now celebrated by these five expanded and remastered classic albums.
Customer Reviews:
The Best Album in a Lifetime .......2007-07-19
I admit to being a relatively die hard Paul Simon fan. It is not a blind adoration, however - like any of us, the man has his ups and downs. His two most recent albums really for me do not live up to the meditative, empathic radience of some of his previous work.
Maybe its unfair to judge any of his work against the standard of this album, The Rhythm of the Saints. Maybe its unfair to set ANY album, by anyone, against it in comparison.
I've had this album since it first came out in 1990. I bought it on vinyl then and just bought it again on CD. As familiar as it is to me, after 17 years of listening to it, it does not stale. His words build up a structure for whatever meaning you need to impart to them - and the structure resolves them into a whole. Every time I listen I learn something new. He offers an ageless sympathy to his listeners, speaking with a voice of aeons of struggling souls is songs such as "Further to Fly" and "Spirit Voices" - but unlike most music and poetry of the day, reflecting on the pain leaves you with a wellspring of hope.
When Paul Simon goes to a new place, South Africa for Graceland, or South America for The Rhythm of the Saints, he becomes like an electrical conductor. He is able to drop all the specific angst of his own life (unlike in his most recent album, in which we are forced to sympathise with his doing 500 sit ups a day, and dying his hair the colour of mud)and he channels the deepest, most timeless, most inherent and meaningful reaches of the human experience.
I don't mean to critisize his new work - the poor man has a right to settle down, be a father, a husband, a man. But when he steps out of himself, as he has in this album, he steps into the most resounding depths of the ocean of humanity - (I know it sounds like I'm going overboard - but I promise, I give the man nothing he doesn't deserve. I do not pretend that he is very good to watch in concert, that thing he does with his arm drives me crazy, and I suspect it is only with the greatest of technical assistance that he can keep his pitch - he is often inclined to stray quite off-tume, and his meandering vocalisations in concert make me tired.)
Listening to this album reminds me, at least, of being a part of a greater community - a moment in time, a beating heart in a great chorus of painful, hopeful, joyous rhythms - soaring with the rhythms of the saints.

the rhythm still moves me fifteen years later............2007-06-08
Who knew that Paul Simon (of Simon & Garfunkel fame) had so much raw, untapped music inside? Yes, Simon brought us great music in the 1960s as the Simon in the Garfunkel duo ("The Boxer," "Sounds of Silence," "Mrs. Robinson," to name just a few of their hits), but it rare that we heard him so free. Maybe we have the surroundings of the Brazilian rainforest to thank for liberating him. RHYTHM OF THE SAINTS is probably one of the strongest albums I have heard by Paul Simon, and he has a great clean sound, along with the collaboration of tradional Brazilian musicians, who add in ago-go and numerous percussive instruments from their repertoire, into the mix. Think of it as soul/jazz meets Indigenous funk. Hard to imagine? It was hard for me, too. If you want a good example of this sound, listen to "The Obvious Child," "She Moves On" (featuring Brazilian vocalist Milton Nascimento) and "Spirit Voices." Once this rhythm gets in your blood, it's hard to shake it out of your system.
A subversive album.......2007-05-22
This is a highpoint for Paul Simon. The music and arrangements are beautiful and lasting.
What about the lyrics, though? Is it just me, or is he making a mockery of himself and his insular life, like Phil Collins' "Another Day in Paradise?" Simon contemplates the meaning of life as a rich, white man with all his rich, white friends. He also brings in the exotic Brazilian and African influences to see how they play against that.
Had a lot of fun, had a lot of money / had a little son, thought we'd call im Sonny. He is laying a thick layer of mockery on his own peers, calling them idiots who treat the miracle of life as just another product. Spend those Eurodollars from Washington to Tokyo? More of the same.
Simon tells secrets about the crew he hangs with, their contentment and wealth. Also, the imagined (but perhaps fake) connections to the exotic tribal people who inhabit the places where they vacation and sail their yachts.
Is he speaking in jest? No. He really wants to explore an enlightenment that comes from a life of leisure, travel and self-reassurance. Who knows what he finds in the end... is this a call to arms for rich, idle intellectuals like himself? A scolding?
The Rhythm of the Saints.......2007-05-13
The product is what I expected. It arrived on time and in the condition advertised.
a good album.......2007-01-12
Paul Simon is a artist in the true sense of the word. This album, while not quite up to the standard of "Graceland" is still a rewarding and enjoyable listening experience.

What goes around comes around ambient. That's the message from a third generation of electronica artists who were just leaving the womb when Brian Eno's early works were being diffused in the 1970s. They were barely teens when the Orb rolled forth in the '90s. But new artists like Boards of Canada, the Album Leaf, and Explosions in the Sky are taking those early ambient primers and adding geometries of glitch and dream guitar to the mix, creating a melodic brand of ethereal music with an edge. Marconi Union, a Manchester duo, follow suit on a CD that travels in cinematic melancholy and textural malaise. Their songs build slowly, emerging out of a flattened landscape of static and stillness to attain a quietly triumphal beauty. Percussion is almost subliminal in journeys that pulse more than groove. It sometimes gets ominous, with an ostinato bass growl prowling through a Blade Runner landscape on "Inter." But usually they generate a quiet awe, like the slow build of "Sleepless." Expect to hear tracks from Distance in soundtracks and commercials near you soon. --John Diliberto
Album Description
Marconi Union is a reclusive electronic duo from Manchester, England. Their sound has been described as "a post rock cinematic orchestra." Distance, their first U.S. release, is unique, individual and timeless, fusing acoustic sounds, strings and pianos with electronica, post-rock guitars and even occasional nods towards jazz and dub. Described by the band as "a soundtrack to a film that has not yet been made," listening to Distance evokes the feeling of being driven silently around an unknown city at night, observing the activity and life of the urban sprawl in safety and isolation.

re: Celestial Melodies Great Work Album.......2007-06-22
This album resonates with beauty... the music provides you with a very thought provoking journey. If you want to transcend your current time and place, just put this album on and you will be transported by the delicate yet etheral melodies.. it is an album with tremendous beauty. I cannot recommend a album more, it relaxes me and gives me insight into what I am doing. Absolutely fantastic album to listen to while at work...
The Interpretation of Dreams.......2007-04-30
At the end of the previous century, Brian Eno's genius, expressed through his various ambient works, set an insurmountable barrier for those that they chose to follow his pattern. To put it bluntly, he set a standard that nobody managed even to come near to. (Maybe his brother came close, but he was still lacking Brian's imagination and mood to discover).
All these until Marconi Union and their Distance work. Dreamy atmosphere, almost psychoanalytic, moving in all senses. A perfect link to Eno's Music For Films sequel. A perfect step towards ambient fulfillment.
It is really hopeful that such groups exist and needless to say, we are truly looking forward to their next work.
Energy transfer.......2007-02-13
There is an exhange of energy that takes place for me when I listen to Distance. Not only do I experience de-stressing and decompression, there also comes a palpable energy transfer while listening to these selections.
The first step in the transfer is the way Distance draws the toxicity of my day out of me, leaving me pleasantly drained. The second step of the process, then, is how the movement within each track subtly softens and salves the chisel-bitten edges of my consciousness. In the third step, as fresh fluid trickles in, I am refilled and renewed.
After a day of dying little, moment-by-moment deaths, Distance breathes life back into me, slowly, slowly, and almost imperceptibly.
If you have ragged edges, if you have wounds, this can be a balm for you.
Very Soothing.......2007-01-24
Nice Album! Very peaceful textures that are perfect for relaxing/Yoga/Meditation etc. I would not consider this New Age, it's more modern Ambient with some modern electronics. There are quite a bit of interesting sounds here even guitars. The product description here says: "a Manchester duo, follow suit on a CD that travels in cinematic melancholy and textural malaise. Their songs build slowly, emerging out of a flattened landscape of static and stillness to attain a quietly triumphal beauty. Percussion is almost subliminal in journeys that pulse more than groove" I think that is a very good way of describing this album. Good Stuff.
Urban Longing.......2007-01-24
Marconi Union's Distance album is a warm embrace of ambient textures with drifting melodies and haunting memories filled with dreamy longings. If you can't sleep, put this in your CD player/stereo and climb into a warm bath. The music is well suited to relaxation, reading late at night or simply dissolving into a memorable mood.
"Through Glass" is more sensuous, while "Buildings and People" has a more luminous trajectory with the feeling that a city has been left completely empty, it is almost haunting in beauty. "A Temporary Life" has shy jazz flourishes, but overall seems to be melting into the night.
The urban moods build on each other until you feel completely relaxed. This album has hints of places you like to be and it seems to call you to distant locations where you'd like to spend more time dreaming.

Customer Reviews:
Great Compulation at a Bargin Price.......2007-01-16
Just added this to an order for fun, I enjoy ultra modern music, but not new age, what a miss nomer. I have researched and purchased additional music because of the selects on this CD.
Great Representation.......2007-01-10
"Compounds" is a great representation of this label's acts. I especially liked the John Cale numbers, and of course Eno's contribution. Particularly interesting was Vacabou. All in all,a very good collection and a good buy.
A True Bargain.......2006-08-18
I bought "Distance" by Marconi Union and had this CD as part of the package. I couldn't believe that it was only $2.99, and after listening to it, I still don't believe that it was going for that price. This is an excellent array of talent on a sampler CD, worth many times the price, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to find out what All Saints records is all about.
Cheap, Good..........2006-06-21
Some of the highlights on this compilation are the Eno tracks from The Drop, Nerve Net, and The Shutov Assembly. The non-Eno tracks are consistently good as well, particularly Budd's track from The White Arcades. For a sampler, the album has a really good sequence to it. It has a sort of This Mortal Coil effect on you, where every track is unique but it adds up to a consistent whole. Aural Wallpaper indeed.
Essential ambient music, past and present........2006-06-04
This is a fascinating guide to ambient music, past and future. All the major innovators of the genre are present, Brian Eno, Harold Budd, Jon Hassell and John Cale demonstrate their own unique talents over an array of classic tracks drawn from the All Saints Records back catalogue. However, this is only part of the story, after an extended period of silence All Saints have recently begun releasing albums by new acts and Compounds showcases tracks by two of their recent discoveries including the highly acclaimed, Marconi Union, who contribute their dazzling track, Sleepless to the album, and effectively map out their vision of future directions for this music, while demonstrating just why they are being seen as important new voices on the European electrionic music scene. Alongside this Spanish duo Vacabou add their beguiling brand of trip-hop to the mix and we are left with the sense that ambient music is alive, well and flourishing in safe hands.

Rennaissance music at it's finest!.......2007-06-29
This was my first Renaissance music album and the broad styles of several composers were very well represented, especially Michael Pretorius, probably the most well-known composer of his time. The tonal quality sparkles and the latin language comes alive (along with English translation in the included booklet); be prepared for an aural "feast" of some of the more eclectic music from the Renaissance period!
a voice teacher and early music fan.......2007-02-04
To quote from the accompanying booklet seems to be in order to start this review: "This collection attempts to wipe the dust from some old ideas and restore music from the Middle Ages and Renaissance to its roots deep in the human soul.........What you're listening to on this disc is not the domain of museums, but the music of the people, born of faith and the love of song and dance".
This is a varied group of works, some dances, some strictly instrumental and some accompanied vocal.
The role of dancing, as you might suspect, was enormously important in this era. 'Le Bouree' showcases the dance music of the composer Michael Praetorius. The 'Bransles de Villages' is of French origin and features 2 violins, 2 violas, a cello, a great bass viol, hurdy-gurdy and 2 lutes. 'La scesa de Pastori dal Monte' is an Italian dance by Andrea Ansalone. Another dance written by Michael Praetorious was the 'Volte' which actually involved 4 short dances. It was considered not respectable because of the close contact between the dancers.
The strictly instrumental songs are : 'Dum pater familias' is called a pilgrim song, and it was religious in nature. And, of course, all the dance songs are instrumental.
The vocally oriented songs are: 'Quen a Virgin ben servira' is a song taken from a collection of songs about the miracles attributed to the Virgin Mary.-Three of the songs are from the famous 'Carmina Burana' manuscript.- 'Orientis partibus' is from the 'Feast of fools'which was a feast held by the church itself in which the status of the church herarchy was reversed as inferior clergy assumed the role of their superiors.-'Stella Splendours' is another pilgrim song; this song was sung by pilgrims who went to worship as the Shrine of the Virgin at Montserrat.
I always trust the quality of a CD when Philip Pickett and the New London Consort are involved. This album is very interesting, but I would hope that this would be classified as the more "pop" type music of the period. Also, I don't think that I personally would call it early music, as is indicated in the accompanying booklet. Today that term brings to mind Monteverdi, Cavalli, Palestrina, the Scarlatti's, up to and including Handel and Bach etc.. Just a personal reaction on my part. This is a very well put together disc.
A good sampler of New London Consort's work.......2006-12-20
Although there's nothing special about this disc as a compilation, it does provide a value-priced sampling of 17 tracks from the New London Consort's excellent recorded work. Given that so many of their recordings are difficult to find on CD at a reasonable price, and that one of my personal favorites ("Bache bene venies", from their masterful 4-CD recording of the Carmina Burana) is included here, I'd recommend this CD as a great place to start while you search for the original releases.
Excellent renditions of lively 'old music'........2005-11-23
'Sinners & Saints' by Philip Pickett and the New London Consort is just a bit too ambitious with their subtitle, 'The Ultimate Medieval and Renaissance Music Collection' as I find it hard to believe that 70 minutes can be the ultimate anything on 500 years of history. This is especially true since they seem to focus a lot more on the sinners than the saints, as there is virtually no liturgical music here. But, since there are so many good recordings of medieval liturgies, we aren't missing much.
This is really the sort of thing you would expect to hear from a travelling troupe of minstrals, but not from a solo artist, as practically every performance involves several instruments and voices.
Some tracks will sound especially familiar, as they are very similar to Carl Orff's 'Carmina Burana', inspired by medieval texts.
Compared to many recordings of music from Shakespeare's time, this collection is superior and well worth the investment.
A Treasure of the Time Period.......2005-08-11
I bought this CD with a children's history class in mind. We are studying the Dark Ages to the Rennaisance. I was delighted to hear the variety of selections which span the spectrum of genres during this period of history. My children and I have been listening to it in the car as well as at home for the simple enjoyment of the music. It will be exciting to present these pieces to my class as I feel it is a very accurate display of the cultures, instrumentation, languages, and styles of the Middle Ages. I am a proffesional musician and thoroughly enjoy most types of music so it wasn't hard to get me interested but I was surprised to hear my eight-year-old and five-year-old sons asking to hear this CD. The former child said it made him feel "important" to listen!!

Salute to America.......2006-07-27
Very similar in quality and music to I Love A Parade and a very upbeat reminder of why we are a patriotic nation. The arrangements and quality of the songs are great.
A good choice but..........2005-06-29
It is not the best CD that I have bought but it is an honest one. The orchestration is good, the choice of tunes is excellent and the tunes are well played. As you know, it is always difficult to say : I like it or I hate it because hearing a CD is a question of personal point of view. In my case, I may not say that I like it or I hate it, I prefer some other orchestration but it us a good CD.
Ho-Hum.......2005-06-08
I wanted some rousing marching music. This album is half asleep. The sound quality is poor. Apparently Mr. Williams writes better music than he conducts.

And they do! They salute America! This is a wonderful C.D
Battle Hymn of the Republic, is great..

I'm a classical music/opera person for the most part. But I find this CD entralling. Even the organization of the CD is ideal-almost like a symphony--with the rousing Candide Overture and the musical medleys at the beginning, the patriotic songs as the B section, and the Dixieland and other music from American musicals to finish up. And I particularly like the orchestration of the medleys. A wonderful CD.

Customer Reviews:
Very good band.......2007-02-21
I heard a few seconds of 7861 on a Victory Records podcast and thought to myself, "Wow... they are awesome. I've gotta hear more of that." Any fans of As I Lay Dying, Darkest Hour, Zao, etc. will enjoy, if not love this band. I downloaded 7861 off iTunes prior to buying the cd, and couldn't stop listening to it for a week. The cd is definitely worth picking up and listening to. Support these guys, they deserve it.
One thing I found funny on the label on the cd was that they labeled them as "Brutal Death Metal Core". What a mouthful. Any hxc junkie knows its "Brutal Deathcore", which is a new (I guess, I had never heard it used beforehand) sub/fusion genre I never really thought about.
Well anyway, happy shopping, and buy this cd.
Good band with alot of potential.......2007-02-15
I bought this cd after hearing "Our Last Road" and "The Reason". I wasn't a fan of the vocals at first, which are extreme, but they grew on me pretty quickly, especially after I watched a live video on youtube. They also use a keyboard, or "keytar" to add atmosphere to their music, which does work well. The standout song is the hauntingly powerful "7861". Listen to that song on their myspace a few times, and more likely that not it will grow on you. It's a very good cd, I recommend it.
A great hardcore disc to start off the new year..........2007-01-24
I got hooked on Beneath the Sky back when I heard the demo for 7861. Being a big fan of Zao, I instantly loved the vocal style and presentation. The more I listened to this song, the more I found influences from other great bands, hardcore and other. The album as a whole sounds great and is very comprehensive. For a first attempt (if you don't consider the EP their freshman disc), I'm floored by this album.
My favorites are "7861", "A Grave Mistake", "The Reason", and "The Last Road".

Beautiful.......2007-06-14
This CD is a must have for any Mormon Tabernacle Choir fans. The music is very reverent and gentle, and should also appeal to those not from the LDS church, seeing as how most of the music is common to the wider Christian community. This CD is a fantastic addition to any music collection.
A few bright spots, but also some disappointments.......2007-01-19
It Is Well With My Soul is one of my favorite-favorites and that is the main reason why I bought the CD; it turned out to be a huge let down on this album, they rearranged it so much that I almost didn't recognize it. Be Still My Soul is another reason why I bought it and it's good, but not great. Swing Low Sweet Chariot is where it starts to get good. The last two songs "Thou Gracious God, Whose Mercy Lends"
and "Come, Let Us Anew" are very good reasons to buy this CD, they each have truely powerful passages and make the CD worth having. The Mormon Tabernacle Choirs 2006 release entitled Then Sings My Soul is by far the best that I've heard from them.
This CD Deserves SIX Stars!.......2005-11-05
However, the rating scale has a limit of five. I own over 700 CDs of virtually every type of music. Peace Like A River belongs in a class by itself! I've never written a review before but, after listening to this STUNNING performance by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, I feel compelled to share my praise with that of the five other reviewers. If I were limited to one word, I would use the word "SUPERB" to describe this beautiful and moving CD. SIX stars for Peace Like a River! BRAVO!!!
every good adjective .......2005-08-06
This album is all beauty and solace. The singing is pristine, the arrangements lush and often stirring--never saccharine. As with the previous reviewer, my first listing of "Peace Like a River" brought me to tears (especially "Peace Like a River," the sopranos in "Swing Low," and the bagpipes in "Thou Gracious God"). Buy this one.
Fabulous!.......2005-05-29
The perfect recording to help you recover from a long, hard day. Showcasing the MTC's "new" sound in contemporary choral arrangements with its own orchestra and conductor, "Peace Like a River" brought tears to my eyes in selection after selection during my first listen -- and I'm not normally an emotional person! The title song together with "Deep River," "Swing Low" and "Be Still My Soul" are alone worth the cost of the recording. Get this one!

Customer Reviews:
Very pleased.......2007-06-10
I wasn't sure what to expect when I bought this CD. True, I could have listened on line before buying but that would have taken the fun out of the purchase. Besides, I really didn't care for the CD the first couple of times I listened but now I really love it. It's not something to listen to all the time but given the right circumstances e.g. a small gathering of friends, it's perfect. If I'd listened to online, I wouldn't have purchased it.
Sumptuous and mellow.......2002-11-28
The six men of the King's Singers present sweet and light-hearted madrigals of such English composers as Morley, Weelkes, Dowland, Wilbye and Byrd. The thirty five selections include "Now is the Month of Maying", "Though Philomela Lost Her Love", "Sing We and Chant It," the celebration of tobacco entitled "Come, Sirrah Jack, Ho!" and a host of other fa-la-la-la-la venues interspersed with wistful laments. I love the rich, sonorous sound of a male vocal ensemble, with countertenors, tenor, baritones and bass, and these six singers do a great job. Occasional instrumental accompaniments by lute and tabor are included, but this group doesn't really need it--I could listen to them for hours all by themselves. Also quite enjoyable, as well as educational, is their earlier release, "The King's Singers' Madrigal History Tour: Italy, England, France, Spain and Germany". For a more risque' take on the vocal music of Renaissance England, you might get a kick out of "The Art of the Bawdy Song" by the Baltimore Consort with the Merry Companions.
One of the Best Collections of English Madrigals.......2002-03-27
Any fan of the King's Singers will regret not having this album in their collection.
This album offers a veritable feast of the choicest English madrigals found on any comparable album. From the obligatory "Now is the Month of Maying" and "Fair Phyllis" to the more obscure "Tan ta ra, cries Mars," there is certainly enough on this album to bring a smile to lovers of Renaissance music - and a spark of recognition to anyone who sang traditional madrigals in high school or university. For serious students of early music, this album comes very highly recommended.
Among the more sonorous offerings on this album, Jones' "Farewell, Dear Love" and Dowland's "Come Again," cannot be ignored. Nor can Bennet's immortal "Weep O mine eyes" be matched more musically than here by the King's Singers.
This album has been played again and again for almost 6 years as both serious listening and background working music. And it has yet to lose its delight.
A Delightful Collection of English Madrigal.......2000-08-16
With 35 tracts to enjoy you're sure to find a couple of favorites. I gave this CD 4 of 5 stars compared to 5 stars for the King's Singers World Madrigal Tour CD. If you prefer all your songs in English, this will be your 5 star CD. Tract 32 "Come again" is my favorite due to the surperb tenor lead and melodic development. Compared to many polyphonic early music styles (1300s-1485), this era (1500-1610) provides many memorable melodies.
A wide variety.......2000-04-28
This is an excellent sampling of English madrigals. This presentation, given by an older roster of the Singers, is a nice introduction to the world of the madrigal, and English madrigals in particular.

Charming acoustic songcraft.......2007-05-27
The bittersweet harmonies and authenticity of this duo placed them among the foremost singer-songwriters of the early 1990s. Their intelligent lyrics and evocative imagery make every song worthwhile, even when the tune is not particularly catchy. So tracks like Hammer And A Nail and Welcome Me with its spectacular guitar patterns are pleasant enough but somewhat lacking in the melody department. Where the melody is great, they deliver the most exquisite songs like Southland In The Springtime, the poignant You & Me Of The 10 000 Wars, the soulful Pushing The Needle Too Far which reminds me of Marianne Faithfull, and the stirring poetic song The Girl With The Weight Of The World In Her Hands. Another great one is World Falls, a song which in its imagery evokes Jane Siberry's classic Bound By the Beauty. There is a spiritual undertone and a feeling of pastoral purity in the music which is reflected in the environmental concerns of some of the songs. Those who like the music of Lucinda Williams, Suzanne Vega and acoustic folk in general, will love this album.
Great album.......2007-05-20
One of the first IG albums I bought and I still love it. One of their best!!!
I like.........2005-10-15
I like this..It is so wonderful to hear classic spirit-filled riffs on classic good-sounding acoustic guitars..These songs speak to me, like "Hand Me Downs" talks about how the world should be and talks about the love we have and how we get it..Hey..Friends, dance with me on this.."Hammer and a Nail" is a call to action..And "Watershed" speaks to how to live..Man, I wish I was a hippie chick like this..(See my "RoseMary Curb and Nancy Manahan" review of "Lesbian Nuns"..)"World Falls" asks you to sing along.."Pushing the Needle Too Far" aches with lonliness and Amy Ray is the achey singer.."123" is a hoe down, and "The Girl With the Weight of the World In Her Hands" tells us what we should do..And "Southland In the Springtime" just tells us what we should do AND is pretty..Love, Vanes
Great Songs and Harmonies!.......2004-06-12
This was my first Indigo Girls album. I had never heard of them until I coincidently turned on my car-radio just as "Hammer and a Nail" had started. I knew at once that there was something special about this band. Later of course, having bought their album "Nomads." I found out that they were actually only a duo.
Though "Hammer and a Nail" was the only obvious up-beat song, I was not as at all disappointed with the album. Judged from this album alone, I was sure that Emily Saliers here. It`s not that Ray`s songs are not good, it`s more that Saliers`are so great. Luckily Ray has grown as a songwriter in recent years so there is a more balance between them today. Her best song here is "Hand Me Downs", which really is great.
It`s hard to pick out one of Emliy`s songs from the others because they`re all great; many of them have become live-favourites.
The blend of their two voices, their brilliant acoustic guitar-playing and their classy songwriting - what more can you wish for.
Very Good.......2004-06-02
The unique sound continues on this disc.
"Southland in the Springtime," "Waterfall" and "Hammer and Nails" are the best songs.
Let's hope this duo stays young for the rest of their singing lives.
